Should Taylor Swift And One Direction’s Harry Styles Date?

Fans had very strong reactions when MTV News reported about the rumored couple. By Katie Byrne Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images Are Taylor Swift and One Direction ‘s Harry Styles a couple? They’re not talking — but you certainly are. On Wednesday, we posted some compelling evidence that Swift and Styles might be linked up (Exhibit A: This video , in which 1D rib their bandmate about Taylor during an MTV News interview), and fans certainly had their opinions on the potential pair. Many readers chalked it up to one more dude caught in the Taylor Swift rumor mill. “I think it’s time to stop the Taylor Swift likes whoever nonsense,” BrianC6234 wrote in the MTV News comments section. “First of all, why does it matter? But even if you care, these rumors have all been false. Isn’t she dating that guy from ‘Les Miserables’? I mean Zac Efron. Wait, no, it’s Tim Tebow. Get the point?” “These rumors have always been wrong,” WeeRu chimed in. “Chord Overstreet, that guy from Parachute, Zac Efron and now Harry Styles? I don’t think so.” RachV2389 added: “Guy after guy. Well … she hasn’t had a song about a British boy yet!” A lot of Taylor fans out there are hopeless romantics, just like their idol, and have their fingers crossed that the One Direction heartthrob is “The One” for Swift. “Harry is a good guy,” xLara_Stylesx wrote. “If you watch all his videos you will see that he has a good personality. And Taylor deserves a boyfriend like him (:” “I love them both,” mrs.worldwide said. “It would be nice if they were together.” (BTW, should we get started on the joint nickname? We’re thinking Haylor or Swiftles.) But it wasn’t all roses and sunshine: Some short-and-not-so-sweet reactions to the news included “SWEET BABY JESUS NO” and “no, please no!” “Heeeck no,” Stephanie Lynn Roberts posted on MTV News’ Facebook page. “Harry has class. TSwift would just break up with him to get a new hit song.” Some fans pointed out the age difference between the 18-year-old boy bander and 22-year-old country superstar. “Come on, Taylor, the kid is only 18,” Ariela M. Garcia wrote, which prompted Facebook user Holly McQuithey to point out Styles’ 32-year-old ex. “Harry dated Caroline Flack. There is no age limit for that boy. Let him be happy.” But one reader, MinkenGjerald, really made us laugh with their reason the couple will never work: “Well… no.. Harry is a sex bomb and Taylor is so innocent.” What do you think? ‘American Idol’ Enters ‘This Decade’: What Should They Sing?

Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery face off on what ‘Songs From This Decade’ the top seven should tackle. By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery Jessica Sanchez Photo: FOX For weeks, it’s felt like we’ve been screaming into the void. We keep begging “American Idol” to get with the program and borrow a page from rivals like “The Voice” and “X Factor” by having the finalists sing songs that were released in the decades since Randy Jackson played bass for Carlos Santana. It’s a novel concept, we know. Seriously, enough with the Billy Joel and Michael Jackson theme nights! Not another collection of Elton John, disco or Frank Sinatra songs, please! Give us something contemporary, dudes — or at least something that may give our aunt in Virginia pause. Finally, “Idol” producers seem to have heard our pleas and given the top seven a shot at sounding halfway relevant this week with “Songs From This Decade” night. Now, the reality singing gods giveth and they taketh away, so while we’re in mortal fear of hearing Jason Mraz and Train songs, we’re also a bit torn about what is likely to turn into an Adele-valanche. Be careful what you wish for. But we’ll take it. So here’s what songs MTV News’ resident “Idol” experts think the remaining contestants should tackle. They failed to take our advice on last week’s ’80-themed show , and look how that one turned out … DeAndre . Read on for our picks! Joshua Ledet Josh smashed it last week and is once again at the top of his game. But here’s the thing: The guy remains an R&B tabula rasa, personality-wise. It’s hard to see him headlining an arena tour or filming an iconic video. Since we hear he’s way more confident off-camera than on, L-Deezy needs to get a little grimy, and what better way to do that than with Usher’s “OMG”? Or, if he must, I offer a one-time-only Adele dispensation for “Someone Like You.” — Kaufman I see him going one of two ways tonight: Either he embraces his brassy, sassy side and does Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” — which he’d kill,

‘American Idol’ Top Seven Rock Songs Of Today

Joshua Ledet gets a standing O and Elise Testone is declared ‘back’ on Wednesday’s show featuring music from this decade. By Gil Kaufman Elise Testone on “American Idol” Photo: Fox They may have been dressed like they were going to a prom in the 1980s, but the top seven finalists on “American Idol” finally dragged themselves into the present on Wednesday (April 11) for the “Songs From This Decade” theme night. With a playlist of tunes released between 2010 and this year, they had help from guest mentor Akon on a night that featured hits by everyone from Eminem to Pink, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5. After crushing it last week and cementing her status as a front-runner, country girl Skylar Laine played some small ball with the lesser-known Kellie Pickler tune “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.” Akon was blown away, saying he couldn’t stop thinking about Laine’s voice, which was a good sign. On a stage dressed up with flaming hobo barrel fires, Laine busted out her acoustic guitar and turned an obscure tune into another twangy tour-de-force, raising her gritty vocals skyward to match the bursts of pyro from the stage props. “This is what you should do, you could have a hit with a song like that,” said Randy Jackson, who dubbed it “crazy hot and crazy good,” not to mention pitch perfect. Steven Tyler offered up one of his all-time head-scratching compliments, praising the ladies of season 11 as only he can with the line, “the crows may crow, but the hens deliver the goods.” Right, what he said. Jimmy Iovine said Colton Dixon needed to step out of Phillip Phillips’ shadow, so he encouraged the Tennessee titan to up the ante on the song co-written for Eminem by Skylar Grey, “Love the Way You Lie.” Posting up behind a white grand piano and accompanied by a string section, Colton hit his falsetto repeatedly to up the drama. And while the big note in the middle was impressive, the soft rock arrangement came off as a bit, well, limp. As usual, though, the ladies loved it and Jennifer Lopez was again impressed with how Colton coaxed his own unique notes out the tune, which she wished would have been “more of a song.” Tyler thought it was so flawless that it could go out as a single right now, with no overdubs. At first, low-key pawn shop worker Phillips didn’t impress Akon and Jimmy with his attempt to do something a “bit different” with a strummy, DMB-ified cover of Maroon 5’s “Give a Little More.” Saxophone assist or not, Phillips managed to turn the pop tune into another one of his signature scatty, fratty jam rockers. Despite the sameness of nearly all his performances, Steven praised Phil’s melodic evolution on the show, inexplicably comparing the singer to a mix of late tough-guy actor Steve McQueen and country icon Johnny Cash. “It was a little bit underwhelming,” said Lopez, still yearning to hear Phil Squared break out and do something different. Jimmy drew a blank on “Stuttering,” the Jazmine Sullivan tune chosen by California girl Jessica Sanchez. But he and Akon were blown away by the teen’s power and control, which ‘Kon — who predicted she’d go far before the live shows started — dubbed “crazy.” Her confidence paid off, as Sanchez killed the sultry ballad, showing shades of everyone from Alicia Keys to Jennifer Hudson in a controlled, silky smooth performance that mixed elements of jazz, soul and timeless R&B. Randy loved the arrangement and said BeBe Chez set the bar at the “highest degree.” Lopez could feel Sanchez digging into the story behind the song in the middle and said the high schooler had a chance to take the “Idol” audience on a ride they’ve never been on before as next month’s finale approaches. Joshua “Mantasia” Ledet got a 20th birthday shout-out from season 3 “Idol” winner Fantasia and celebrated being almost legal by exiting the ballad barrio and rocking it out to Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby.” Rolling his hips, strutting his stuff and showing off some previously hidden ladies’-man moves, Ledet proved that he’s got just as much soul and grit singing uptempo as he does on the slow jams. Cleary it worked, since he got the night’s first standing O from the judges, with Tyler gushing, “you can sell us all like a work of art.” Jackson said the performance was, simply, “unbelievable,” from the fly white jacket and pink socks to the utter command of the stage. It was do-or-die week for bottom three staple Texas firecracker Hollie Cavanagh, who hoped to turn things around with Pink’s “Perfect.” Akon and Jimmy said she has the vocals, but just needs to cross the chasm from an amateur to a confident professional. Singing to an acoustic guitar, Cavanagh finally combined her powerful pipes with some controlled, heart-tugging emotion, ending with a gigantic diva-rific note that slammed an exclamation mark on the performance. “I feel you fighting. … You sang beautifully tonight,” said Lopez, though Tyler rebutted that it wasn’t, in fact, perfect, but a bit flat. Resident rocker Elise Testone closed the night with the Lady Gaga tune “Yo

Miley Cyrus’ ‘LOL’ Trailer: 5 Key Scenes

Remake of 2008 French film finds Cyrus seeking revenge on a cheating ex-boyfriend. By Fallon Prinzivalli Miley Cyrus in “LOL” Photo: Lionsgate It’s been a long time coming for Miley Cyrus’ remake of the 2008 French film “LOL.” Since the announcement back in 2010 that the film is being distributed by Lionsgate , news on the movie has been lacking. Well, not anymore, Cyrus fans. On Tuesday, the official trailer for the film dropped, which gives fans a preview of what the movie has in store. In a generation that spends more time updating the world about their problems than their families, 17-year-old Lola’s (Cyrus) status is constantly changing. As an attempt to get back at her — now ex — boyfriend Chad for cheating on her with Ashley ( Ashley Greene ), Lola starts seeing his best friend, Kyle ( Douglas Booth ). Her life begins to spiral downward as her grades drop while she experiments with drugs and sex, and a divorce has her mom completely oblivious to it all. Soon she starts to fall for Kyle and things get even more complicated. The trailer is a great peek at the teen drama, and we have the five key scenes from it. EX -Boyfriend The trailer begins with Lola’s voice over: “Every year it’s weird going back to school, but here we are just going with the flow, trying to love and laugh out loud.” She abruptly stops laughing when she calls out Chad on not texting her throughout the summer and he admits he hooked up with Lola’s rival Ashley. She acts like she doesn’t care, but as soon as she enters her room she begins crying on her bed. This emotional scene that sets up the rest of the trailer. A New Beginning Lola quickly gets over her failed romance as she begins hanging out with Chad’s best friend Kyle. A montage begins of their new friendship as they share a lollipop, rock out on an air guitar and come this close to kissing by his car. Everything is even more wonderful when he tells her, “You’re amazing.” We imagine audiences will quickly become fans of Booth. “I can’t believe I ever dated you!” But the puppy love comes to a halt when Lola begins her sexual awakening. It seems rumors begin circulating when Chad says to Lola in the school courtyard, “Now that you’re giving it up I figured maybe I could get some.” The next scene shows Lola lashing out and pushing him into a gate screaming, “I can’t believe I ever dated you!” The trailer isn’t clear on what exactly causes the outburst, but we’re betting it’s pretty bad judging by Lola’s reaction. Trouble In Paradise? As it turns out, Chad’s comment is just the beginning of situations that spiral out of Lola’s control. The next few scenes show a fight with her mom about her grades dropping and a drunken make-out session with Kyle. Her life gets even worse as she witnesses Kyle walking with his arm around Ashley. When she confronts him about it, he denies it and she spits out, “You’re disgusting.” But we already knew Greene’s character would cause a stir when Demi Moore told MTV News “she’s really saucy.” “Status can change, but true love remains the same.” Throughout the next montage of scenes, we see “status can change, but true love remains the same” typed out across the screen as Kyle dedicates a song to Lola and she makes up with her mom. Finally, as a smiling Kyle rests his head on an equally happy Lola, the trailer leaves us with the feeling that despite the craziness of high school, everything will work out for Lola in the end. After all, she did say she just goes with the flow and high school is only the beginning. Are you planning on seeing “LOL” in theaters? Leave your comment below!
