‘Mad Men’ Season Five: 10 Things You Need To Know

Brush up on what ad man Don Draper and the ad folks at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce have been up to as the AMC show returns Sunday after 17-month hiatus. By Josh Wigler Jon Hamm in “Mad Men” Photo: AMC “Mad Men,” like the advertising world it revolves around, is a busy show. Lots of comings, lots of goings, lots of inside baseball, lots of Jon Hamm getting drunk. Making matters even more complicated is the fact that the 1960s-set AMC drama has been off the air for dangerously close to two years, thanks in large part to contract disputes between the network and “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner. Now, “Mad Men” is finally set to return for its fifth season on Sunday night. But, as is often the case with the show, don’t expect Weiner and company to welcome you back into the world of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce with an instruction manual. If you don’t remember what went down in the last few seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show, that burden rests entirely on you. So if you’re behind on your “Mad Men” know-how, or simply need a refresher before Sunday night, don’t sweat it: Keep reading for 10 things you need to remember about season four going into the weekend’s big season-five premiere.

Hilary Duff Welcomes Baby Boy With Mike Comrie

‘Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie!’ Duff tweets about first child. By Christina Garibaldi Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie Photo: Jesse Grant/ WireImage Hilary Duff is now a mom! The former Disney star and her husband, Mike Comrie, welcomed baby boy Luca Cruz Comrie into the world Tuesday. Duff took to her Twitter page to break the happy news. “Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie!” she tweeted . “Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy.” She followed it up by tweeting , “We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world. He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well.” Duff and Comrie , who recently retired from the NHL, revealed they were expecting their first child back in August, one year after their wedding anniversary. They announced the news on Duff’s website , writing, “We are extremely happy and are ready to start this new chapter in our lives.” In October, Duff — who was more than four months pregnant at the time — sat down with MTV News and told us she had a feeling that she was expecting a baby boy . “Everyone else says it’s a girl, but I think it’s a boy,” Duff said. “I’d be happy with a girl, but my sister’s like, ‘You can’t keep saying that, because then when it’s a girl, everyone’s gonna be like, “You really wanted a boy!” ‘ I don’t care what I get, but every time I think about it or dream about it, I see a boy.” At the time, Duff was in the process of making a very tough decision: picking a baby name. “If we give the baby kind of a unique name, we need to give it a normal middle name in case it hates it and wants to, like, fit in better, and then maybe we just need to go totally traditional,” Duff said. “And we’re like, ‘How can we be naming it before we even see it?’ There’s so much to think about!” The former “Lizzie McGuire” star got lucky during her first pregnancy, saying that other than the lack of sleep, it’s been a relatively calm experience. “I feel really good. It’s been pretty easy, and I haven’t gotten sick at all, and I don’t have too many cravings,” Duff told MTV News. “It’s so different. It’s literally like an alien has taken over your body. One day I’ll have a good day, and one day I’ll have a bad day, and it kinda goes like that.” Leave your well-wishes for Hilary and Mike in the comments below! Game Didn’t ‘Hold Back Anything’ On ‘Behind the Music’

‘My life is an open book,’ rapper says about tonight’s VH1 special. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia ‘The Poetess’ Morris Game Photo: MTV News Whether through his music or interviews, Game is an open book. The Compton, California, rapper has been candid about his gang affiliations, his tumultuous family life and his beef with rival rappers like 50 Cent. Tonight (March 22) at 9 p.m. ET, Game will once again open up on a new episode of VH1’s critically acclaimed show “Behind the Music.” “I think it’s real big, and I’m so appreciative for VH1 just reaching out to us and sort of just championing my career and appreciating me,” Game told MTV News this morning. Game is a big fan of the show, which has famously profiled musicians like Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige and Game’s mentor Dr. Dre. “I’ve seen a lot of episodes that were about figures that I thought to be bigger than life. I didn’t think I was halfway there, just 30, and still trying to find my way through hip-hop,” he said. When the show airs, the “Hate It or Love It” rapper will watch on television like so many of his fans. “I haven’t seen any edits or anything. I’m just gonna sit on the couch and watch it with the fam,” he said. “They are so thorough in their interviews and the people they talk to. They went back from the early stages of my life, even earlier from before I was born. They talked to my mom, my parents, my grandmother, so I think there are a lot of things that will be uncovered [that] people will appreciate knowing.” Nas will also be a subject of a “Behind the Music” episode this season, and when thinking about himself in relation to the Queensbridge MC, Game imagines that he is much more open than his friend and frequent collaborator. “I didn’t hold back none. You know me; I don’t hold back anything,” he said. “I can see Nas being a little bit guarded. … You know, Nas is a bit of a thinker. Me, I’m just a little more wild and reckless, so, you know, my life is an open book.” Don’t miss Game’s “Behind the Music” tonight at 9 p.m. ET on VH1. Related Artists The Game

‘Hunger Games’ Box Office: How Hot Will It Blaze?

Film experts predict Lionsgate’s aggressive marketing will boost dystopian drama to at least $125 million in its opening weekend. By Amy Wilkinson Elizabeth Banks and Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Film experts have long expected the Girl on Fire to set the box office ablaze, but the question of just how hot ” The Hunger Games ” will burn when it opens Friday continues to be a moving target. Early tracking numbers suggested the dystopian drama would earn about $70 million in its opening weekend — a figure only slightly higher than the $69.6 million opening of “Twilight.” But in the ensuing weeks, with increasing hype and positive reviews bolstering its outlook, those estimates have nearly doubled. MTV News spoke with two box-office experts: Gitesh Pandya, editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com , and Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com , who both predicted the Jennifer Lawrence-starring flick will earn around $125 million its first three days. “Since there have been no previous ‘Hunger Games’ films to measure the fanbase, it is hard to tell where it will end up this weekend,” Pandya explained. “It may go even higher, especially if fans see it more than once by the end of the weekend.” But die-hards — those who’ve read and re-read Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel upon which the movie is based — won’t be the only dollar-drivers, thanks in large part to Lionsgate’s aggressive marketing strategy. “They knew from the beginning they can’t just cater to the fanbase,” Contrino explained. “It’s a good starting point, but you need to entice people who haven’t read the books.” Pandya agreed: “Lionsgate has done a great job marketing to non-fans. I’m not part of the book readership, and the TV spots I’ve seen really created anticipation for me.” Another factor working in the film’s favor — one which will likely help the series’ first installment best the initial “Twilight” outing — is its broader appeal. “Guys are going to show up. The ‘Twilight’ films skew heavily female, and that’s what has stopped them from being even bigger than they are,” Contrino said. ” ‘The Hunger Games’ doesn’t have to overcome that obstacle.” All of which is to say that “Hunger Games” is in no fear of not reaching the $100 million overall domestic goal Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer set as the benchmark for whether the sequel, “Catching Fire,” should be greenlit. So, mark your calendars for November 22, 2013, because Katniss’ victory is all but a foregone conclusion. How well do you think “The Hunger Games” will do this weekend? Lenny Kravitz Explains ‘Subdued’ Cinna In ‘Hunger Games’

‘All his expression comes out in his creations,’ musician-turned-actor tells MTV News. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate For those of us who’ve been following each and every production detail of “The Hunger Games,” the casting process was perhaps the most intriguing element to dissect and overanalyze. One of the most interesting casting announcements was Lenny Kravitz landing the role of sensitive, sympathetic stylist Cinna. When MTV News caught up with Kravitz recently, we asked the Grammy-winning musician-turned-actor to tell us how he ended up with the role. “How hard [did I go] after it? I was on the other end of the phone, that’s about it,” he said. “I wish I had a great, struggling story, but I was working on my album when Gary Ross called and said, ‘I’d like you to do this movie, “The Hunger Games,” ‘ and so the first thing I had to ask was, ‘What is “Hunger Games”?’ because I honestly did not know. He told me and I downloaded the book that night, read it, called him back promptly the next day and said, ‘Thank you very much, I’ll be there.’ ” Kravitz said Ross was inspired to contact him after seeing his performance in “Precious.” “He liked the performance in ‘Precious’ and thought that Nurse John and Cinna shared some similar qualities as far as being nurturing characters, and that sold him,” Kravitz said. “So I was very fortunate.” What sold Kravitz on accepting the role was what also made a lot of us obsessive fans of “The Games”: author Suzanne Collins’ captivating story and relatable, respectable characters. “Here I am recording all day, it’s 2 a.m. and I’m tired and pick up the computer. Already, my eyes are tired and I was so tired and wanted to put it down, but I couldn’t,” he recalled. “It really kept my attention, the storytelling. It really comes down to that.” Although readers of the book came to know a more flamboyant version of the character as created by Collins, Kravitz and Ross decided to tone him down just a bit. “I would always ask Gary Ross, ‘How far do you want to go with this?’ and at the end of one of our conversations, we both agreed that it would be more interesting to make him more subdued, like [fashion icons] Yves Saint Laurent or Tom Ford, more classic,” he said. “[Cinna] wears his waistcoats and his flats, and all his expression comes out in his creations. He’s got his little bit of gold eye shadow, but yeah, he’s pretty subdued.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Katy Perry ‘Sore And Exhausted’ After ‘Part Of Me’ Video

‘I know how to carry my weight a little bit more,’ she says of military training for the just-premiered clip. By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: MTV News One of the many reasons to admire Katy Perry is for how honest she is with her fans in revealing how she struggles with the same mundane annoyances in life that we all do, like watching what we eat and exercising. During MTV First: Katy Perry” on Tuesday, when Perry premiered her new “Part of Me” video , the pop star revealed that during the holidays, she gives herself a free pass and goes into full-on “Stay Puft Marshmallow mode.” So she had some preparation to do before shooting the combat-heavy clip, going on a strict diet and exercise program. “I got on a meal plan. I’m still on that meal plan, although I cheat a little bit — I have to live!” she admitted. “I got a fantastic person to work me out and get me into really good shape.” Perry said she performed a lot of the stunts in the video, including learning how to flip and carry people. “On the actual base, I did a lot of things. I flipped girls, I learned how to fireman-carry,” she said of the maneuver used to rescue wounded or unconscious victims of fires or other accidents. “I know how to carry my weight a little bit more,” she said, before admitting there was one task she wasn’t able to master. “One thing I can’t do, and I hope that there are other people out there that feel the same way, is climb a rope,” she said. “Oh my gosh, it’s so hard to climb rope! It’s all about grip and arms. I tried five or six times on set, but I had to cheat that shot. My hands were shaking.” Though the production of “Part of Me” was a lot of hard work — actual blood, sweat and tears — Perry talked at length about how much she learned from the Marines she worked with. “This music video, as much as I was sore and exhausted, I was so educated on people in the service who I’ve always respected, but this time the respect goes beyond and above anything I could’ve imagined,” she said. “The stuff that they go through, the loyalties and strengths that they all possess, it seems like they are seriously, not to sound weird, but it’s seriously the heart of America.” Stick with MTV News as we roll out more exclusive news from our “MTV First: Katy Perry” interview! ‘Hunger Games’ ‘Blew My Mind,’ Josh Hutcherson Says

‘I was so happy how it came together,’ actor tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Josh Hutcherson Photo: MTV News In addition to obsessing over our own reactions to finally seeing “The Hunger Games,” we’ve been enjoying collecting the initial reactions from the castmembers themselves, whose pre-screening thoughts ranged from anxiety to excitement. When MTV News caught up with Josh Hutcherson recently, we asked him what goes through his mind any time he screens a movie he worked on. “Honestly, I just hope it doesn’t suck. That’s my mentality when I go in to watch one of my movies,” Hutcherson said with a self-deprecating smile. “I hope I don’t get bored watching it, and I didn’t watching this. I was so happy how it came together. It really, to me, was kind of the most interesting way this story could be told. The way Gary [Ross] captured the essence of the story and the characters, cinematically, is incredible.” Hutcherson went on to say that the one thing that surprised him most was not any of the actors’ performances but the music backing them. “I think the score, to me, was one of the most surprising things,” he revealed. “I think it’s really interesting. And some of the editing choices that were made were so cool and different and nothing I’d ever seen before. Like, in the scene when Jennifer is stung by the Tracker Jackers. That kind of cool editing thing. It really kind of blew my mind.” But did it blow his mind enough to also evoke emotion via his tear ducts? Did Hutcherson shed any tears while watching the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-seller? “Inside I did. I held it in,” he said, before adding that he’s not at all afraid to let the waterworks flow during movies, particularly those that star Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. “When I saw ‘My Sister’s Keeper,’ I openly wept the entire movie, and I feel comfortable saying that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Video: Report For Duty

Katy goes to boot camp in just-premiered clip. By James Montgomery Katy Perry in her “Part of Me” music video Photo: Capitol There are probably about a dozen different ways to view Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” video , which premiered Wednesday night (March 21) on MTV, and all of them are certainly valid: a deft recruiting tool, a feminist super-fantasy, a pop video on steroids, a v
