Gang affiliations are oftentimes set in stone, with members choosing sides and vowing to remain loyal to their selected group. But two members of the infamously rival gangs the Bloods and the Crips have put aside their differences in favor of one common cause: Occupy Atlanta. According to an article written by Occupy Atlanta participant Tim Franzen , Sherrod Britton and Shabaka Addae Guillory have become best friends despite their opposing associations. Guillory, a 20-year-old who joined the Crips at age 14 met Britton, a 29-year-old Blood member, during an impromptu freestyle rap session at Occupy Atlanta. “I saw him in the park, saw his colors.,” Guillory told Franzen. “There was no mean mug or rivalry because we realized that what’s happening here is so much bigger then gang rivalry.” Read more at Huffington Post . ‘I can fulfill people’s sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking about it,’ he jokes about ‘Breaking Dawn’ sex scene. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment Of all the scenes to be excited about seeing adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s book to the big screen when “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” opens on November 18, fans have made no effort to hide the fact that they are dying to see the “honeymoon scene” above all others. When MTV News caught up with Robert Pattinson recently during the press day for the film, we asked him if he felt pressure from fans to really deliver on the highly anticipated romantic moment. “Yeah, but at the same time no. That’s the one time where I have felt kind of like the coolest person,” Pattinson admitted with a laugh. “This is easy! I can fulfill people’s sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking about it, piece of cake. That isn’t acting,” he joked. “The only thing [that was difficult] is the vanity aspect,” Pattinson continued. “Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I went, ‘Well, I’m throwing in the towel’ on ‘New Moon.’ ” All joking aside, Pattinson recently admitted that he took a half page or so out of Lautner’s training book in order to prep for his shirtless scenes in the film. “I didn’t eat any candy and I didn’t drink any beer for a while,” Pattinson said of his health-conscious prep . “I went kind of nuts. Me and Kristen [Stewart] went nuts working out, because we hadn’t worked out for any of [the previous films],” he admitted. “I had it for, like, two weeks,” he said of his abs, with Stewart agreeing and adding that they gave up being healthy immediately after their skin-showing scenes were wrapped. “As soon as I didn’t have to be shirtless anymore, [my good habits were] gone immediately,” Pattinson continued. “During [filming in] Brazil, the day before I had to do my shirtless scene, I realized [my abs] weren’t as good as Taylor’s, so I just ate every bit of chocolate in the minibar. I started eating cheeseburgers and stuff.” Pattinson also shared his, let’s say, intimate experiences filming the love scene. “I just ended up thinking purely about vanity things. You’re sitting there in a little g-string. … They give me a big g-string, but it was too small for me. It was like old ham.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Fans can bid on Johnson now, with all proceeds going to Pencils of Promise. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: WireImage Justin Bieber is auctioning off Johnson, the baby boa constrictor he brought to the 2011 Video Music Awards , with all proceeds going to Pencils of Promise, one of the organizations he’s sponsoring through his Believe charity drive . That means one lucky fan has the chance to win a decidedly unique bit of Bieber memorabilia. Bidding is now under way over on the Charity Buzz website (Johnson is currently going for $175, FYI) and closes November 29. Of course, only serious bidders need apply, because if you end up winning the auction, you’ll be on the hook for the long haul, as a disclaimer on the site cautions: “Keeping a pet snake is a long-term responsibility. Before making any decision about keeping one, please ensure you have the money, space, knowledge, time, resources and enthusiasm required to properly care for the species you intend to keep, for the duration of its life.” Enthusiasm is key, since boa constrictors can live 20 years or more in captivity, and, as Charity Buzz states, “the welfare of this snake is the sole responsibility of the adopter … the adopter agrees to give the snake good care, which includes quality premium food, fresh water, sanitation and grooming, clean and secure indoor housing, clean and secure outdoor housing and overall safety.” The winning bidder must also guarantee Johnson’s veterinary care will be provided for. Bieber announced the launch of his Believe charity drive earlier this month, with the release of his Under the Mistletoe. He’s donating a portion of the sales from the holiday disc — which just debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart — to charity and is encouraging fans to match his donations to seven specific organizations: the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pencils of Promise, Musicians on Call, Project Medishare for Haiti, City of Hope, the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Grammy Foundation. Talk show hosts Wendy Williams and E!’s Handler share some strong opinions about the reality star with MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian Photo: James Devaney/ WireImage Kim Kardashian has remained relatively low-profile since announcing her split from Kris Humphries last week. Aside from doing a bit of press for her handbag line in Australia, Kardashian has mostly shied away from any big sit-downs about filing for divorce. But while the reality starlet’s friends and family have been supportive, one of Kim’s fellow E! staples is not exactly offering a shoulder to cry on. Talk show host Chelsea Handler seemed to want to distance herself from her network sister when MTV News caught up with her at the Glamour Women of the Year event in New York on Monday. “She’s not my girl, by the way. She’s more your girl than my girl, by the way,” she deadpanned. “Luckily, I don’t work at the [E!] building, so I don’t have to hang out with the Kardashians.” Outspoken TV host Wendy Williams didn’t have any particular advice for the divorcing Kardashian, but she hoped Kim would be more public about addressing the breakup news. “You know, Kris [Jenner], we had her mother on the show last week — one thing I have to say about Kris is she never flinched at any of the questions that I asked,” Williams said. “She answered all of them to the best of her ability, and I appreciated that. With that said, I think that it’s kind of rotten and immature that Kim couldn’t have done her own perp walk. And I understand [that Kris is] the one behind the machine, but maybe they could have done it together or they could have worked a couple different shows at the same time as opposed to running across the other side of the world, where perhaps softballs were [lobbed] at Kris or Kim.” While Kim may not be getting much support from talk show hosts, she’s getting all the help she needs from pals like La La Anthony . “Anytime someone gets a divorce, it’s a difficult time,” the “La La’s Full Court Life” star said. “All I can do is be her friend and support her through every part of it, and that’s what I’m doing.” Related Photos Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries: A Whirlwind Romance

Fellow NBA wife and reality TV star tells MTV News she’ll be there for Kim through ‘every part of it.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian Photo: Marianna Massey/ WireImage After Kim Kardashian announced her headline-making split from Kris Humphries , it’s her friends and family who are helping her get through a tough time. One of those pals, fellow reality star and basketball wife La La Anthony, told MTV News she’s just trying to be a supportive friend. “Of course, I was surprised by the news,” Anthony told us Monday night on the red carpet of the Glamour Women of the Year event in New York City. “Anytime someone gets a divorce, it’s a difficult time. All I can do is be her friend and support her through every part of it, and that’s what I’m doing.” It’s been more than a week since Kim announced the breakup but she continues to make news. Over the weekend, the E! star not only visited her ex in Minnesota, but “Saturday Night Live” poked fun at the couple’s divorce news. In a sketch called “Kim’s Fairytale Divorce,” the Saturday night staple imagined what a special about the split would look like, including an over-the-top divorce preceding with Kim handing off dough to Humphries as he grunts. The sketch left Kim’s sisters LOLing on Twitter. “Ha! I just saw the SNL skit they did and I could not stop laughing…. LOL,” Khlo

‘When I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal,’ he tells MTV News of Throne’s ‘Blades of Glory’ sample. By James Montgomery Will Ferrell Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images It’s one of the biggest — and most inexplicable — hits of 2011, a song so popular that its hook was name-checked during player introductions on Sunday Night Football, so massive that Jay-Z and Kanye West have taken to performing it multiple times per set on their Watch the Throne Tour . We’re talking, of course, about “N—as in Paris,” the max-impact Throne single that has become a sensation, thanks in no small part to producer Hit-Boy’s bouncing beat , West’s pop-cult wordplay (“What’s that jacket, Margiela?”) and, of course, a pair of oddball samples taken from Will Ferrell’s 2007 figure-skating comedy “Blades of Glory.” As you’re probably aware, “Paris” kicks off with Ferrell’s grizzled Chazz Michael Michaels defiantly declaring, “We’re gonna skate to one song and one song only,” then really picks up steam mid-song, when (in a move that could alternately be described as “completely inspired” or “completely insane”), Hit-Boy drops the beat and lets the song roll on a second Ferrell sample: ” No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative … it gets the people going !” And, indeed, it has done just that. “Paris” currently sits atop Billboard ‘s Hip-Hop/R&B Charts, dominates urban radio and has received a thunderous response at Throne shows. And, thanks to Ferrell’s contributions, it’s certainly one of the oddest mainstream hip-hop tracks in recent history too. And if you’re wondering how the whole thing came to be, well, you’re not the only one: Turns out, Ferrell’s pretty mystified by the track too, as he told MTV News in an email Tuesday (November 8). “Kanye reached out to me and I said, ‘Of course,’ ” Ferrell wrote. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song … and when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” So much so, in fact, that Ferrell said he’s hoping to take the Throne collaboration to the next level — “We were trying to film a piece that they would use on the video boards of their concert, but haven’t gotten it together,” he wrote — and the whole process has opened his eyes to an entirely new career opportunity: Being the go-to sample guy on the hip hop circuit. “I think [something from] ‘Step Brothers’ would be good [to use in a song],” he wrote. “Or the Woody Allen movie I did, ‘Melinda and Melinda.’ ” Regardless of whether any of those ideas come to fruition, thanks to the “Paris” success, Ferrell can bask in his newfound street cred, which is certainly at an all-time high. And that’s saying something for a guy who once starred opposite Andre 3000 . “It makes me feel very good,” he wrote. “And completely justified for buying a V-neck sweater made out of nothing but diamonds.” Were you surprised by Will’s Throne cameo? ‘He put that energy back into [the song], because she repped for him,’ Salaam Remi tells MTV News of ‘Like Smoke.’ By Rob Markman Nas Photo: Getty Images The late Amy Winehouse and Nas had a mutual bond that few knew about. Not only do Amy and Nas share the same September 14 birthday, but according to producer Salaam Remi, they have a number of collaborations that were left on the cutting-room floor. The recently released “Like Smoke” is the first time fans got to hear them in tandem. “Amy sang on records that we never put out with Nas,” the multiplatinum hitmaker told MTV News last month in New York’s Jungle Studios. “As far as them now getting on the same record, that was a conversation in play for the last couple of years but that just didn’t happen yet, and when I listened to that song, I was like, you know what? This makes sense, to actually make that happen as far as things that she wants to do that didn’t happen yet.” “Like Smoke” will appear on Amy’s December 6 posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, and features Nas dropping a pair of brand-new verses in between Winehouse’s bluesy vocal. Though Amy wasn’t around to hear the rhymes Nas dropped just a couple of weeks ago, Salaam is confident that based off her admiration for the Queensbridge rapper, she would approve. Amy famously sang about Nas on “Me and Mr. Jones” from her breakout Back to Black album, and the two became acquainted through their mutual friend Salaam. “He just put it in perspective for me,” Remi said of Nas’ mind-set before writing his portion of “Like Smoke.” “I never wanted you to be my man, I just need your company,” Amy starts out singing to an unknown lover. Nas on the other hand speaks directly of his fallen friend when he spits, “I be out in London, Camden, hunting for the answers/ Why did God take away the homey,” he questions. “As far as myself, I feel like I’m repping her musically because that’s what I know of her more than anyone else,” he said. “And then as far as where [Nas is] at, he put that energy back into [the song], because she repped for him. I mean, who writes songs for people, unless you really respect them?” What do you think of “Like Smoke”? Let us know in the comments! ‘Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable,’ Academy president says in a statement. By Kara Warner Brett Ratner Photo: Kevin Winter / Getty Images In a move that falls right in line with the old adage “actions speak louder than words,” director Brett Ratner has stepped down as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards . Ratner submitted his resignation to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization in charge of the Oscars, on Tuesday (November 8), according to a statement posted on Oscars.org . The “Tower Heist” director has been making headlines over the past few days — first, due to his comments about a sexual relationship with Olivia Munn, then at a screening of “Heist,” where he used a gay slur, claiming that “rehearsal is for f–s.” “He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself,” Academy President Tom Sherak said in the statement. “Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent.” Ratner explained his resignation in an open letter to the entertainment industry, obtained by Deadline . “Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances,” he wrote. “To them, and to everyone I’ve hurt and offended, I’d like to apologize publicly and unreservedly. “So many artists and craftspeople in our business are members of the LGBT community, and it pains me deeply that I may have hurt them,” he continued. “I should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words do matter. Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted. With this in mind, and to all those who understandably feel that apologies are not enough, please know that I will be taking real action over the coming weeks and months in an effort to do everything I can both professionally and personally to help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry I’ve so foolishly perpetuated. As a first step, I called Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast. Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.” Ratner apologized for the gay slur on Monday. “I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb and outdated way of expressing myself,” Ratner said in a statement. “Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.” The statement was condemned by gay-rights organization GLAAD, which acknowledged the apology but said it did not go far enough. Sherak initially stood behind Ratner as 2012 Oscar producer but warned that the organization would not put up with any more indiscretions. “The bottom line is, this won’t and can’t happen again,” he told Deadline on Monday. “It will not happen again.” No word yet on whether this will affect plans for Ratner-recruited “Heist” star Eddie Murphy to host the show . We reflect on late hip-hop legend’s career and impact on the next generation. By Kelley L. Carter Heavy D Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images There was this odd but super cool sound that rolled off Heavy D ‘s tongue that we all tried to emulate. It was his melodic calling card; it was the key thing he inserted into Heavy D & the Boyz ‘ “We Got Our Own Thang.” Its significance was cemented in pop culture when he guest-starred in a 1989 episode of one of the era’s hottest sitcoms, “A Different World.” He was set to be a featured performer at a fundraiser on the show, and the pompous, pretentious Whitley wasn’t having it. “I’ll tell you what lacks melody is that diddly diddly diddly diddly diddly dee,” she drawled, displaying her disgust for hip-hop, completely unaware that she was, in fact, bemoaning Heavy D himself. Heav, playing a caricature of himself (and an old junior high friend of Dwayne Wayne), laughed and shrugged it off. We all chuckled with the laugh track as Whitley realized her mistake and Heavy showed her the right way to do the thing that had all of us — in the ‘hood, in the ‘burbs and in the sticks — trying to copy him every time we heard one of his wicked, uptempo tracks. We next see him onstage, doing that infamous Heavy D shake, performing the track “Somebody for Me,” the single that questioned — and longed for — a woman’s affections for the man who dubbed himself the Overweight Lover. Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, died Tuesday (November 8) at an L.A. hospital. He was a young 44. TMZ is reporting that a 911 call was placed from his Beverly Hills home around 11:25 a.m. PT to report an unconscious male on the walkway. When help arrived, the entertainer was conscious and speaking and was taken to the hospital. He died shortly thereafter. Heav was that kind of touchable performer. We felt comfortable with his Overweight Lover nickname — he was the big guy who could move. His size never stopped him. He moved in ways that intimidated the slimmest dude in the crowd. He was smooth, dapper and celebrated the around-the-way-girl through song; his music helped soundtrack 10th-grade dances near and far, and his colorful, danceable and at times sensitive brand of hip-hop clearly proved to be wildly influential to new-millennium household names like Diddy or Drake. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who came up after Heavy D that doesn’t cite him as an influence — and if they didn’t say it out loud, their showmanship certainly was a giveaway. He brought professionalism to live hip-hop shows, and because he fancied a variety of music and musical stylings, his shows were thought-out, deliberate and defined all that New Jack Swing embodied. Heavy brought the bounce to hip-hop and his smooth delivery made every woman look at big boys with new eyes. He was sexy — so were his lyrics, and so was his style. He was one of few rappers to collaborate with Michael Jackson (he rapped on “Jam”), and we all applauded when he linked up with Janet Jackson for an “Alright” remix. His death is tragic for a number of reasons. Until last month, we hadn’t seen Heavy perform live onstage in 15 years. When he hit the stage back in October for the BET Hip Hop Awards , he showed the young guys that he could still swing with the new New Jacks. He also showed off an amazing 135-pound weight loss, but his hip-hop moniker was still fitting for a guy who gave so much to a musical genre that continues to shape pop culture. Even past his hit-producing hip-hop prime, Heavy continued to be a force in entertainment . He’d often dabbled in film and television, and most recently. we saw him in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and the just-released “Tower Heist.” Some of hip-hop’s biggest luminaries tweeted their affections for the rapper Tuesday. It was undeniable what he brought to the genre. He was one of the biggest who ever did it — and he got there because he did his own thang. Share your memories of Heavy D on Facebook.
