Will the New York Jets Kill Kevin Smith’s Chances to Sell Red State?

It looks like Kevin Smith might get sacked. (Nyuck, nyuck.) Deadline’s Mike Fleming reports that a large number of potential Red State buyers are upset that the film screening on Sunday night conflicts with the AFC Championship game between the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. Writes Fleming: “A lot of indie distribution executives hail from New York and New Jersey (as does Smith), and they’ve waited a long time to see the Jets get into a Super Bowl.” Somewhere, Bob and Harvey Weinstein are nodding in agreement. Wiz Khalifa To Perform ‘Black And Yellow’ Before AFC Championship Game

‘I’ve always had that Pittsburgh pride,’ MC says of performing his hometown anthem before Steelers take the field. By Jayson Rodriguez Wiz Khalifa Photo: Prince Williams/FilmMagic It looks like Snoop Dogg isn’t the only fan of Wiz Khalifa ‘s music. The upstart rapper has been tapped by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers to perform his breakout hit “Black and Yellow” before the team’s AFC championship game against the New York Jets on Sunday. One of MTV News’ 11 for 11 , the MC will take to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field prior to the game’s 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff in hopes of helping the Steelers return to the Super Bowl. “I’ve always had that Pittsburgh pride. I just wanted to let people know where I’m from and represent any way I can, and what better way than through our colors?” Wiz said in a statement released by his label. “I took that hometown pride and put it in a song.” The news is just the latest is a line of accomplishments for the young lyricist. Earlier this month, Wiz and Snoop released a video for “That Good,” the pair’s first single from “High School,” their forthcoming collaborative movie and soundtrack. Late last year, the two breezy stars first joined forces for the G-mix “Black and Yellow” remix . As a longtime Steelers fan, Snoop had no problem giving it up on the Pit anthem. The Los Angeles native even donned the signature colors in the clip alongside Wiz, who sported a Steelers fitted hat, Pittsburgh Pirates jacket and custom Taylor Gang sweater in — what else? — black and yellow. Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg Keep It ‘G’ In ‘Black And Yellow’ Remix Video

“The remix is crazy, so the video is gonna be crazy as well,” Wiz tells MTV News on the set of the star-studded visual. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa on the set of the “Black and Yellow” remix video Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa’s in the big leagues now. The heralded underground star was named MTV News’ Hottest Breakthrough MC in 2010 and put out one of that year’s best mixtapes in Kush and Orange Juice. But with his hometown anthem “Black and Yellow,” the Pittsburgh star has broken through to the mainstream. And what better way to be welcomed to the pros than by Snoop Dogg? The veteran rapper joined Wiz for the “Black and Yellow” remix , which the MCs dubbed the “G-mix” (short for gangster remix). “It’s the G-mix so we keeping it G: simple shots, performance shots, me and my guys,” Wiz told MTV News when we visited the set of the video, which also features T-Pain and Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J. “The remix is crazy, so the video is gonna be crazy as well.” The visual was shot last month in Los Angeles by Bill Paladino and is simple but effective: The upstart looks right at home between the Grammy (Snoop) and Oscar (Juicy) winners. “It’s awesome because I know that they have all been in a room with each other and they’ve interacted before, but it’s my first time with all of them and I feel like we’re friends,” Wiz said of the clip, which hit the Web yesterday. Recently, Wiz and Snoop reconnected on a new track titled “That Good,” which arrived earlier this week and will be the pair’s first single from their upcoming movie project, “High School,” and its soundtrack, due later this year. What do you think of Wiz linking up with rap vets like Snoop Dogg and Juicy J? We want to hear from the Taylors in the comments!

University of Pittsburgh Fires New Head Coach After 17 Days Due To Baby Mama Drama

How you get fired on New Year’s Day, Craig??? Oh, you were choking your baby mama out. Former Miami (Ohio) University coach Mike Haywood was about to seriously come up career-wise, having landed a prestigious position as the head of the University of Pittsburgh football program… even though he was nowhere near as qualified as his predecessors. And then his baby mama stood up against his violent a** and f*cked EVERYBODY’s checks up. Pittsburgh fired football coach Mike Haywood on Saturday, saying he could not continue in the job he held for only 2½ weeks because of his arrest on a domestic violence charge. Haywood was released Saturday from St. Joseph County Jail in Indiana on $1,000 cash bond, said an officer at the jail who declined to give her name, after the charge was upgraded from a misdemeanor to felony domestic battery in the presence of a minor. Within hours of Haywood’s afternoon release, Pittsburgh put out a statement from Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, saying Haywood had been dismissed, “effective immediately,” and the school was reopening its search. “To be clear, the university’s decision is not tied to any expectation with respect to the terms on which the legal proceeding now pending in Indiana might ultimately be concluded,” Nordenberg said in the statement. “Instead, it reflects a strong belief that moving forward with Mr. Haywood as our head coach is not possible under the existing circumstances.” Pitt moved swiftly to oust Haywood following an arrest that sullied a university that is proud of its Big Ten-like academics. It also raised questions why Haywood — who had only two seasons as a mid-major head coach, including a one-win season — was chosen Dec. 16 following a brief search. Haywood was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday after a custody issue developed with a woman with whom Haywood has a child, police said. The unidentified woman told police that Haywood grabbed her by the arm and neck and pushed her as she tried to leave the home that Haywood owns in South Bend, Ind., where he once was a Notre Dame assistant. Assistant St. Joseph County Police Chief Bill Redman said the woman had marks on her neck, arms and back. Haywood’s hiring by athletic director Steve Pederson was greeted unenthusiastically by fans, boosters, alumni and students who questioned why a school with annual Top 25 aspirations hired him away from mid-major Miami (Ohio). Dave Wannstedt, forced to resign last month following a disappointing 7-5 season, had coached two NFL teams before his 2004 hiring. “This is a matter of real regret for the many people at Pitt who had looked forward to working with him,” Nordenberg said. “However, head coaches are among the university’s most visible representatives and are expected to maintain high standards of personal conduct and to avoid situations that might reflect negatively on the university.” Pederson emphasized Haywood would be a “role model” for Pitt’s players, most of whom wanted Wannstedt retained following seasons of nine, 10 and seven wins. But Haywood’s introductory press conference, in which he never mentioned the word winning but repeatedly emphasized that his players would be disciplined, dress properly and attend class, was met with a lukewarm response. Oh, so basically they were looking for a reason to fire you, and you handed it to them on a platter. You big dummy. Source

Wiz Khalifa To Go Green On Next Single, ‘Roll Up’

Pittsburgh MC tells MTV News he just ‘came up with’ follow-up to ‘Black and Yellow.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa may not be an environmentalist, but the Pittsburgh rapper does have a thing for the green movement. So for a follow-up to his breakout hit “Black and Yellow,” it only makes sense he tap a resource he’s familiar with. “The next single is called ‘Roll Up,’ surprisingly,” he told MTV News with a laugh. “Really, I just needed another single and we were trying to come up with a look and then me and [my manager] talked about it,” Wiz continued. “We talked about it for three minutes. And then I came up with that song.” The track is slated for release on his forthcoming debut album, which is yet-untitled but tentatively scheduled for a March release. “I’m definitely looking forward to my next single coming out,” Wiz said. “I’m looking forward to my album dropping in late March, which is gonna be exciting for me and the Taylors worldwide. Like I keep saying, always keep building on top of my brand, keep doing what I’m doing and make new fans.” The MC is currently in Los Angeles, where MTV News visited Wiz and Snoop Dogg as they shot the video for the remix, or G-mix, to Wiz’s “Black and Yellow.” “Black and yellow, ahh, black and yellow/ See me now they treating me like I’m somebody special,” Wiz spits on the remix. “Smoking on that good, know it’s me soon as they smell it/ You can chill, I’m the one who get it, not the one who sell it/ I grind every day, I’m balling, I can’t help it/ N—as on that bullsh–, my pockets full of Celtics.” Snoop sent a picture to Twitter of the pair partaking in some smoke-filled activities while in the studio over the weekend. “Tha Dogg N @RealWizKhalifa blowin’ like a broke stove, ya digggggggg?!?!?!” Snoop wrote. Paris Hilton Christmas Card: So Glamorous

‘Tis the season for somewhat revealing holiday cards. We hate to say it, but compared to the Kardashian Khristmas Kard and other celebrity efforts, Paris Hilton’s attempt to be sexy and/or glam is kinda weak. The ho-tel heiress’ seasonal shout-out evokes the old-time Hollywood glamour era, but it’s not really clear why, or whether it’s even appropriate or not. She writes: “Warm wishes this Holiday Season. Love from Paris & Paris Hilton Entertainment.” Gotta plug Paris Inc. Check it out after the jump … Paris and Radar would like to wish you a seductive holiday .

Wiz Khalifa ‘Went Out On A Limb’ Turning Down Drake Tour

‘I figured I’d try a different method, and it ended up working for me,’ he tells MTV News of opting for his own headlining jaunt instead. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa said he went with his gut when he turned down Drake’s offer to open for him on the Light Dreams and Nightmares outing, instead embarking on his own headlining effort, the Waken Baken Tour. With only a handful of dates left and after a series of sellouts, the Pittsburgh rapper is pretty sure he made the right call, even being named MTV News’ Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 . “I went out on a limb and went with my gut feeling,” Wiz told MTV News. “It was risky when you go for what you know, but it’s really easy to take the hand from someone. Not saying I didn’t want it or couldn’t use it, but I figured I’d try a different method, and it ended up working for me.” Over the weekend, the “Black and Yellow” MC held court at New York’s Best Buy Theater, where he was joined by his brother in arms, Curren$y, and Big K.R.I.T. for the Hot 97-sponsored showcase. The lanky lyricist said Los Angeles and Phoenix were among the standout shows during his tour, which also featured stops in Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta. Phoenix, however, was the top moment, according to Wiz. “Honestly, it might be weird, but Phoenix, huge reaction out there,” he explained. “Every show was [great]. “It was crazy,” he added. “I felt like I was on TV when I was out there.” Do you think Wiz made the right call in skipping Drake’s tour?
