A “Lil Positivity” – Ray Allen Designs NBA Black History Month Shirt For Players #NBABHM

Ray Allen Designs NBA Black History Month Shirt Kudos to Ray Allen for this… Via Bleacher Report: While Ray Allen is proud of the mark he’s made with his play—making more three-pointers than anyone else—he’s trying to leave a legacy in other ways. This month, you may see the result of his sweat…In the shirts that NBA players are sweating in. Allen collaborated with the league on the design of the special shooting shirts for February, shirts that feature images of Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and Bill Russell. “I’ve been trying to make noise about it for the longest time, ever since I was in Milwaukee,” Allen told Bleacher Report recently. “Because when it came to Black History Month, I was always the guy to try to get the guys to do little video montages, during halftime, during timeouts, where we would read about one of the black heroes of ours, a great civil rights activist, or someone who was a pioneer back in the day that helped push along black culture and improve the civil liberties of black people.” And there was a problem, in his view. “It got to the point where I would read all of them, because nobody else would do it,” Allen said. “I always used to have a gripe with the way this game is, and how many young black men are playing this game, and how many have benefited from the civil rights movement. But we never talk about Black History Month, there is never anything done inside the (other) arenas. So I tried that, every place that I went, to at least have some type of moment. Let’s not have Black History Month and let the moment pass by.” Allen was insistent upon the importance of inclusion. He worked quickly with a friend to create the design, and they worked with the league to make sure it was appropriate for everyone. “The shirt doesn’t have to be a black shirt,” Allen said. “One of my messages was, Black History Month is not just about black people. Black History Month is about how black people have fought to improve the lives of not only black people, but the world over. “Martin Luther King fought for the civil liberties of all people. That’s something that we need to continue to believe, and understand that. People in the Middle East right now are fighting, and they are paying homage to Martin Luther King’s civil rights movement, they are following those doctrines, and how he fought for equality for all people. So that’s something that we need to talk about right in the forefront.” This is great! WENN/NBA

Kate Upton Does The Super Bowl For Vogue

Because the Super Bowl’s in New York (OK, technically New Jersey) this year, and Kate Upton is the hottest model from New York New Jersey right now, Vogue got her to do a Super Bowl-themed shoot for their latest issue. So she posed with a bunch of Jets and Giants players, because I guess somebody forgot to tell the people at Vogue that neither of those teams are actually in the Super Bowl this year. Anyway, Kate looks great as usual, but I’m guessing I’m not the only one who would’ve preferred seeing her with her shirt off in the locker room instead of Victor Cruz. Oh well, maybe next year.

Aaron Rodgers: I’m Not Gay! I Really, Really Like Women!

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers surprisingly decided to address the rumors surrounding his sexuality in an interview Tuesday afternoon. The Aaron Rodgers gay rumors stem from an alleged falling out with his personal assistant, but the NFL star told Wisconsin’s ESPN 540 that he’s straight. “I’m just going to say I’m not gay,” he said. “I really, really like women.” Aaron Rodgers Denies Gay Rumors Rodgers has long kept his life away from football guarded, which surely helped fuel speculation that he and Kevin Lanflisi were involved romantically. In Tuesday’s radio sit-down, he mentioned the gay rumors and the broader subject of keeping his personal life private with brevity and a bit of incredulity. “There’s always going to be silly stuff out there in the media and you can’t worry too much about it. I don’t.” Rodgers said, “I just, keep on trucking.” The 30-year-old Super Bowl XLV MVP added that, “I think professional is professional and personal is personal and that’s how I’m going to keep it.” There’s no proof that Rodgers is gay, but his close relationship with Lanflisi, some cryptic tweets and a string of circumstantial “evidence” sparked speculation. Lanflisi has been alluding to the end of a relationship much deeper than a friendship, and he has never had a public relationship with a woman. Kevin Lanflisi: Aaron Rodgers Boyfriend? “All that time spent on ‘us’ is now spent on ‘me,'” Kevin wrote. “I wish you would learn to love people and use things… Not the other way around.” Rodgers and Lanflisi had been best friends and lived together for several years. He also ominously wrote that “silence has an expiration date.” Some Internet theorists then linked this to a report from this past summer, when four gay NFL players were reportedly on the verge of coming out. An unnamed source claims Rodgers was one of them, but backed out “at the last minute,” which led to a rift with a bitter Lanflisi, who has moved out. Rodgers, it should be noted, has been in a relationship with Destiny Newton since 2011, though true to his word, he doesn’t broadcast this at all. Regardless, Rodgers and the Packers will play host to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Lambeau Field in the first round of the NFL Playoffs.

What The Hell?? Video Game Allows Players To Reenact Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre

This is going too far. Video Game Reenacts Sandy Hook Massacre The Sandy Hook massacre was a terrible tragedy… what company would make a video game about that? Poor judgment. According to Think Progress: In an online video game, players follow shooter Adam Lanza’s footsteps the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary school mass shooting. Called “The Slaying of Sandy Hook Elementary School,” the widely condemned simulation takes players through the shootings of 26 children and adults before it shows their “score”: Game creator Ryan Jake Lambourn claims it has a “gun safety” message, but activists against gun violence are baffled and disgusted by the game. The family of Victoria Soto, a murdered Newtown teacher, took their outrage to Twitter, telling Lambourn, “Please tell us how playing a game that recreates how Vicki died would be beneficial?” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) told the Hartford Courant he hopes the “very disturbed person who could think of something like this sees the cruelty of what he’s done and stops it.” Post-Newtown, the National Rifle Association faulted video games and media, not guns, in its wide cast for blame. But the NRA is not above using controversial shooting games when it can profit from them. One month after the tragedy, the NRA released a game with coffin-shaped targets to promote gun ownership. New England Patriots Bonehead Baller Rob Gronkowski Makes Racially Insensitive Jokes About Asian Fan! [Video]

White ball players just don’t get it, huh? New England Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski Makes Asian Jokes About A Fan According to TMZ reports : Maybe New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski hasn’t heard what’s going on with Richie Incognito — because he openly mocked an Asian fan over the weekend, calling the guy “Leslie Chow” … and joking about fried rice. Gronk was hosting a Q&A with fans in Foxborough, MA Sunday night at Bar Louie Restaurant when people started dancing … including an Asian man sporting a Gronk jersey. The Pats star acted surprised, and said — into a microphone for everyone to hear — “They told me he could only cook fried rice!” Then Gronk one upped himself by calling the fan “Leslie Chow” … Ken Jeong’s character from “The Hangover.” At least one person in the group thought Gronk might have crossed a line — because they immediately grabbed the mic and reminded the audience they all signed waivers agreeing to hand over ALL cell phone footage. Well, the joke is on Gronk because not everyone in the audience complied with that waiver, and thus, we have THIS. Unfortunately your browser does not support IFrames. We’ll be honest, this joke might have flown if Rob was actually a comedian doing stand-up, but he’s not SMH Image via USAToday/SI Continue reading

Daisy Coleman Bullied at School After Making Rape Allegation; Anonymous Vows Payback

Anonymous has turned its attention to Maryville, Mo., where a small-town rape scandal isn’t resulting in the justice they feel a teenage girl deserves. Anonymous Vows Action in Daisy Coleman Rape Case “There’s a multitude of anons and angry people planning a course of action as we speak for Maryville,” said Deric Lostutter, aka RealKYAnonymous. If the Maryville authorities won’t “do their jobs,” the hacktivist’s boldly declares on behalf of one young victim, “we will have to stand for them.” “We demand an immediate investigation into the handling by local authorities of Daisy’s case,” his statement reads, referring to Daisy Coleman. Just 14 at the time, she was drunk when high school football player Matthew Barnett, then 17, allegedly sexually assaulted her last year at a house party. Lostutter, who played instrumental role in Anonymous’ crusade in the much-publicized Steubenville rape case , added, “We are watching. Always.” The saga began in January, when Barnett told police he had sex with Coleman, whom witnesses described as incoherent, local station KCUR writes. Barnett said the sex was consensual, but Coleman’s blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.13 seven hours after she had reportedly had her last drink. Coleman was then reportedly abandoned in the front yard of her home, where she passed out for three hours in sub-freezing winter temperatures. After Coleman’s mother found her and called 911, the girl was brought to St. Francis Hospital, where doctors discovered vaginal tears, reports indicate. Barnett was initially charged with felony sexual assault, but that charge was later dropped by Nodaway County Prosecutor Robert Rice, who cited a “lack of proof.” Coleman was subsequently bullied at school, and her mother lost her job, prompting the family to move to a new town 40 miles away for a fresh start. Still, Coleman is reportedly scarred by what happened: She has attempted suicide and spent three months living at a home for troubled teens. Anonymous got involved after The Kansas City Star published a 4,000-word report on how Barnett and a friend had sex with two underage girls. The report, which stemmed from seven months of investigating, shot to the top of Reddit on Sunday, where readers across the country weighed in. Lostutter, who is under federal investigation for his alleged role in hacking the Steubenville football team’s website, posted a call to action on Facebook. On Monday, YourAnonNews – one of the most influential Anonymous Twitter accounts – began publicizing the issue to the collective’s 1.1 million followers. Lostutter said Anonymous is planning protests and a “media storm” to publicize the issue. They are already pushing #OpMaryville and #Justice4Daisy. Last year, Anonymous obtained and published a small trove of photos, videos and messages that helped convict football players in a similar case in Steubenville, Ohio. Whether they are successful in achieving their stated goals in this case – and the lengths they will go to in order to do so – remains to be seen.
