The NFL Lockout Has Officially Begun And It May Be A Long Time Before It’s Over

We all hoped that it would never come to this but unfortunately there will be a work stoppage this NFL season because the millionaires and the billionaires can’t get along. Now that the NFL Players Association has decided to decertify, here’s a road map of what might happen next. 1. The NFL will immediately file a grievance with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in an attempt to block the decertification. The NFL will argue that the NFLPA is acting in bad faith and that the NFLPA’s true goal is to get the NFL exposed to antitrust litigation as a way of grabbing owners’ money. 2. The NLRB takes no immediate action on the NFL’s grievance over the weekend as its offices will be closed. The NFLPA proceeds as if it has decertified. Monday comes along and the NLRB schedules a hearing, possibly for later in the week, to review the NFLPA’s decertification. 3. In addition to the NFL’s NLRB grievance, the NFLPA will file a request for a temporary restraining order with U.S. District Judge David Doty in an attempt to block the NFL from executing a lockout. The NFLPA, with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as named plaintiffs, will argue that the lockout would violate players’ employment contracts with NFL teams and would constitute a group boycott under federal antitrust law, which it can now turn to since the NFLPA has decertified. Federal antitrust law is very threatening, as damages in a successful antitrust lawsuit are automatically multiplied by three. We have to side with players on this one. You can’t ask for a billion dollars and then not be willing to show a reason why you need it. Sh*t if you ask us for $50 we’re gonna wanna know why… Who’s side are you on, the players, the owners, or do you not give a damn and just want them to play?? Source

Upon first listen you wouldn’t know that LeCrae is a Gospel artist. His current single “Go Hard” sounds like a cross between Kurt Franklin and Young Jeezy. His songs are catchy, the beats are banging and you sure wouldn’t catch your traditional Gospel artist reciting lines like: “Lord kill me If I don’t preach the gospel I’m still in my 20′s- but I’ll die if I got to Already dead- so forget my flesh I done been crossed over see the full court press I’m a full court mess if the Lord don’t use me” LeCrae granted Elev8.com an unprecedented interview about his album, vision and Christ. OW: How has this project differed from   previous projects? LeCrae: “Rehab is far more musical and explores issues that my other projects didn’t touch on manhood, marriage, and addiction. I think Rehab is a very transitional project it displays more of me as an artist/writer/producer and not just a rapper.” OW. In the last year, what have you learned? LeCrae: “I have learned that authenticity resonates with people. The industry can  be very misleading and is built to make people believe what they see. Teyana Taylor’s Has A New Gig And… Doesn’t Like That We Think She’s Famous For No Reason

We watched Teyana Taylor turn 16, put out the single “Google Me”, pursue acting and hang with her crew. She has always been labeled as being famous for no reason and maybe that’s because no one has ever been clear on what exactly she does or even wants to do. In a recent interview with Edge magazine, Teyana speaks on the fame, her style and her career. “It gets really hard because people don’t really know what’s happening on the inside of things. People can be so cruel and not even know your situation and not want get to know”, she says in her soft spoken and perfectly raspy tone. This transparency and softer side may shock many who know Taylor as the Jordan wearing, opinionated skateboarder chick whose big hair and unique style is being copied by young girls everywhere. But the sincerity in her vulnerability is magnetic. “I’m a piece of work and I am certainly one of a kind, I know for sure that I am”, she says, “but I honestly can care less about this industry. I just do what I love”. In her confidence is also knowledge of the power she has as a role model for young girls that need a place in this world to feel accepted. She speaks for a large part of the new generation of young women who simply want to be who they are but fear no one will understand. When talking about her responsibility to the girls coming after her, Taylor’s speaks with the wisdom of a veteran twice her age. “I want to inspire young people, with everything I do. Even through my style”, she says, “if you can change the world or just change lives directly, why not go for it? If I can encourage kids to be themselves and to be cool with being different that’s what I’m going to do. I have a responsibility to try to change as much as I can.” “Before I got signed I was a skateboarder and I played basketball. I gave it up for my career because the label saw a lot of danger in it. I wanted to do something so that I could still have basketball in my life and as a fan I wanted to know more about players”. Her small gesture to remain close to the sport she loves turned into a 100,000 strong following in just one week, a number that she hadn’t planned for. “The site kept crashing”, she says with a raspy laugh, “we didn’t build the site for those kind of numbers. But we’ve been back for almost three weeks and we’ve already gotten almost all of our traffic back…. it’s good to know people didn’t forget about it”. At this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend , a number of hoop stars, and the wife of one player in particular, wholeheartedly agreed with this observation. “They always say all rappers want to be basketball players, [and] all basketball players want to be rappers,” La La Vazquez, wife of New York Knick Carmelo Anthony and ex-MTV VJ, told MTV News. Over the years, a number of NBA players have actually become rappers on the side. Besides four championships — three with the Los Angeles Lakers, one with the Miami Heat — Shaquille O’Neal also managed to release four albums. The first, 1993’s Shaq Diesel, went platinum and the third, 1996’s You Can’t Stop the Reign, featured a pair of verses from the Notorious B.I.G. on its title track. More recently, L.A. Laker Ron Artest has embarked on a rap career, while his teammate Kobe Bryant once kicked rhymes on R&B singer Brian McKnight’s “Hold Me.” Not every player necessarily has rap dreams to go along with their hoop dreams, though. “Every player except me wants to be a rapper,” said Dwight Howard of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. “I don’t want to do the rap thing.” Howard did add though about his fellow NBA stars, “We love music. We love hip-hop and we support it.” LeBron James, who is famously and charitably good friends with Jay-Z, mentioned how basketball players are frequently name-checked in song. For example, on Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” the MC rhymes, “Jesus paying LeBron, I’m paying Dwyane Wade.” This synergy between players and rappers ultimately boils down to mutual respect. “We all came from nothing,” Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett told us. “The appreciation factor for each other, the fact you gotta grind and work hard to get where you at, it’s similar. It’s a very similar industry.” Garnett’s teammate and fellow All-Star Rajon Rondo added, “We respect those guys the way they respect us. It kind of goes hand in hand. Him calling himself a Vatican Assassin, him talking about watching Jaws on a yacht to experience 4D, or getting a Tattoo with fighter pilots watching Top Gun, or Flying baseball players to his house to watch Major League, to all the other amazing things that came from the interview….I figure this summed it up nicely. I am a huge fan. I think he is amazing. I even like the pornstar, Bree Olson , who he hired as an escort and is’s filming a sex tape with….I even like Denise Richards even though she blocked me on Twitter cuz I asked if she was an escort when she met Sheen, and she got defensive….
