MODEL MONDAY: Lana Ogilvie Went From The First Black Covergirl To Skincare CEO

Source: Randy Brooke / (Photo by Randy Brooke/FilmMagic) Name: Lana Ogilvie IG: @lanaogilvie_official Agency: AnitaNorris Models/ Heffner Mgmnt/Abrams Artists/ModelCoOp Claim to Fame: The Canadian supermodel was the very first Black model to receive a COVER GIRL contract shattering a longstanding glass ceiling for Black models seeking work with commercial brands internationally. She has also appeared in Vogue , Elle, Bazaar, Marie Claire and Sports Illustrated . View this post on Instagram Winging it. Is it just me….. #ordomostpeoplehaveaplan #bellemagazine @ishiphoto @diana_carreiro @hudsonsbay A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Sep 4, 2019 at 8:25am PDT When any non-white model books a huge contract , panels are convened and headlines are printed. Everyone is delighted and (sadly) a little shocked that a giant corporation has decided to officially embrace someone who doesn’t fit the typical mold. But after all the meetings and memos that precede the press releases, the astonishment of the media is rarely shared by the model herself. “COVER GIRL was not a surprise for me,” said Ogilvie. “When COVERGIRL wanted to book me, my agent at the time, Michael Flutie from Company Management had the idea which he proposed to them, to put me under contract. To make it a bigger thing for not just me, but also for COVER GIRL and the industry in general.” View this post on Instagram Last Weekend for the beach #fbf with @si_swimsuit #siswimsuitissue #bikinibabe #swimsuitmodel A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Aug 30, 2019 at 12:05pm PDT Flutie’s suggestion came at the right time for an industry ready to inch forward towards a larger definition of what it meant to be beautiful. “They liked the idea obviously. And it really started that change within the beauty industry of signing different ethnicities to multiple year contacts, and forcing these huge companies to realize the buying power of ethnic consumers.” The moment and the subsequent media firestorm following the announcement were strong professional achievements for Ogilvie but they were still the result of someone else’s choices. “As a model, there is virtually nothing I can do to book or not book a job,” she explained. My line is specifically for mature skin.I love all of the products the same. They are my babies! But I love serums in particular and the Renew Serum is very light and not sticky like many serums. It penetrates the skin very quickly. I apply it morning and night after washing, all over my face, but not the eye area. Sometimes I use a chilled facial roller to apply it.” View this post on Instagram #smile it’s Monday Laughing with @lovechicos #mondayvibes A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Aug 12, 2019 at 9:56am PDT She also invested in formal training so that she could empower herself through education. “I believe in having a knowledge base within what I am doing, being authentic within that space. I am finishing a course in organic skincare formulation, so I can speak with the chemist from a knowledge base and be able to talk to clients coming from an educated place,” she declared. She is hosting a sold out event with multicultural collective Face Flawless Skin beside other multicultural brands at Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship location. When I started, retouching was done by hand on the photograph. On the actual print! There were no apps or digital retouching, so skin had to look good in real life.” After spending years backstage in the tragic nineties she’s learned a few things on her own before the chemistry lessons. “In the 90s, before the millecelair water and makeup wipes, a lot of models swore by using baby oil to remove eye makeup. I tried it once. It was so greasy and made me break out. Really a bad moment in skincare.” View this post on Instagram Rosy Tuesdays……@lovechicos A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jul 9, 2019 at 4:02pm PDT Her experiences backstage, “definitely inspired me to create a line.” Those experiences are able to continue, thanks to the ripple effect from the changes in the industry Ogilvie and her contemporaries set the standard for. “The industry is more inclusive especially age wise. Which is great for me. When I started there was no market for women over 40. At 26 your were on the way out. So it’s wonderful to see that.” View this post on Instagram Monday Bling #nevertoomuch @sidneygarber Jewelry A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jun 24, 2019 at 10:54am PDT She is even happy about the changes in the “plus-size market,” and the messages they send to women outside of the industry. “What I am also happy about are the guidelines now in place for healthy models. In the 90s models were too skinny and a really unhealthy body image was held in high regard. That was a low point, I think ,for beauty standards that the fashion industry imposed on women.” View this post on Instagram Getting ready for Canada Day @esteelaudercanada Shades of Canada #diversityiscanadian #lanaogilvie A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jun 27, 2019 at 11:28am PDT She has hopes that stronger changes will come where thee “Just not have any adjective in front of the word woman. “I would love to see beauty and fashion get to the point of thinking,’ We are going to book a beautiful woman for this job’, and not ‘We are going to book a beautiful Asian woman, or Black woman, or older woman’, etc.’ I’d love to see it just be a ‘woman’ – without the thought of anything else.” Unless it’s that woman’s glowing skin. N BA player Jarrett Allen has been dedicated to empowering the youth. The Brooklyn Nets center was instrumental in launching the team’s NETSTEM initiative—a program designed to teach Brooklyn youngsters about STEM through basketball—and has teamed up with different nonprofits focused on tech education. The nonprofit was created to provide support and resources for children who have parents who are behind bars to empower them to break the cycle of incarceration. The organization provides one-on-one counseling, mental health services and after school and summer camps and serves over 350 students each year. Allen took a group of children to Brooklyn’s Levels Barbershop for their haircuts. “It’s important to me because I have a lot in my possession,” he said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I’m an NBA player, I have the dream that a lot of people want to have. So just to give back, show that NBA players care about people outside of basketball is important to me.” The 21-year-old was honored by the NBA with an NBA Cares Community Assist Award in April for his philanthropic work. Aside from his STEM education projects, within the last two years, he’s held several Brooklyn-based back-to-school events and often visits the Brooklyn Hospital Center to uplift young patients. Several NBA players are stepping up to support the youth. Los Angeles Clippers player Kawhi Leonard teamed up with the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Baby2Baby and the L.A. Clippers Foundation to donate one million backpacks to children from low-income families. NBA star LeBron James recently surprised one of the students from his I Promise School with a back-to-school shopping spree . ‘Power’ Recap: F-Boys Had The Best Week Ever

Read this article:

Source: Mike Pont / Getty Tonight’s episode of Power finds Tasha potentially getting a new love interest. Unfortunately for her, she’ll never actually get her groove back (before going to jail) because Ghost won’t let her be happy. Let me rephrase that, she won’t be able to get her groove back as long as her narcissistic ex is alive . This is beyond f–k boy because Ghost has proven that he will actually kill anyone that Tasha loves as we’ve seen him do to Terry Silver. Here’s the deal about potential new bae, Tasha finally opened up her new daycare. One of her, ahem, clients is a sexy man named “Q,” and their chemistry is undeniable from the moment they first lock eyes. We knew they would get it on. They almost did, in Tasha’s office on top of a desk, but Tasha remembered who she was and stopped it. Her life is just too complicated and dangerous to be playing with people’s hearts, knowing that they might get killed simply by being affiliated with her.  There was even a moment when Ghost came to the daycare to talk to her because she called him out on yet another crappy and selfish decision. Basically, he dissolved Raina’s trust fund and forged Tasha’s signature to do it. Ghost is using that money for the Queens Child Project and probably to pay Jason too, but Tasha feels like she’s entitled to half of that money, which she is. Anyway, he comes to confront her about demanding half and slowing down what he has going on, and Q interrupts the party. Tasha swiftly rushes Q outside to chat with him and Ghost hit him with the stare down the entire time like: Q says he’s not afraid of Ghost and that he has dealt with worse. Obviously, he doesn’t know who he’s dealing with, so we’ll see how this goes. Either Q is an agent sent to create more chaos, or he really is a naive law-abiding citizen who wants to see what life with Tasha could be all about. You never know with this show so we’ll have to see.  Q: “Tasha, I seen worse than him. I can handle him.” The rest of us: #Power #PowerTV pic.twitter.com/qAD93vDkAT — Blocka Khan (@Starr_Rocque) September 15, 2019 Anyway, Ghost made it clear a long time ago that he doesn’t love Tasha but he also won’t let her be great. But then he admitted that he killed Terry because he kinda sorta still loved her. Obviously, this isn’t love. Let’s be real, Ghost is like a lot of toxic men who don’t really love their woman but will do anything they can to control them. Ghost being trash is a weekly theme.  The other interesting point of note in the episode is that Proctor killed his ex-wife. It wasn’t directly but he’s an evil genius. He lied and told her that he was engaged, then had a fake letter sent to her from a law firm, denying her employment. He did all of this to trigger her enough to binge on drugs, which she did. Things got so bad that his daughter called him over for help because mom was spazzing out. She spazzed herself right to death. Proctor pulled out his phone and initially planned to call 911, but when she started foaming at the mouth he decided to let death do what it do. The only problem is, he said out loud, “I’m not gonna let you take her from me,” and you can hear that he didn’t call 911. His daughter’s backpack, the one that Saxe had bugged, was sitting right there, recording everything.  Things looked shady af for Tommy too. His mom got to spend some time with Keisha and made it a point to mention Holly’s disappearance. Basically, Tommy’s mom doesn’t trust Keisha and wants Tommy to be smart about her. She feels like Keisha will always put her son first, as she should. However, Tommy is hardheaded, even though his mom has been right before. People on this show have had nine lives, but I get the feeling that won’t be the case this season. Is Demi Lovato Sweetly Swirling With This Black “Bachelorette” Contestant?

Source: John Fleenor/Walt Disney Television via Getty Images) / Getty Demi Lovato May Have Met Her Match With “The Bachelorette” Contestant Mike Johnson Demi Lovato has had her share of ups and downs but things are looking good right now for the singer who may have met her match thanks to Season 15 of “The Bachelorette” A source tells PEOPLE that the singer, 27, and former Bachelorette contestant Mike Johnson are “having fun and getting to know each other.” The source adds, “They’ve been talking privately for a bit and hanging out.” Lovato posted about Johnson, 31, on her social media during his time on Hannah Brown‘s season of The Bachelorette but the pair got the public talking earlier this month when Johnson commented Lovato’s unedited bikini pic. View this post on Instagram This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!! I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards. So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day. It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit. Anyway, here’s me, RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should love you too! Now back to the studio.. I’m working on an anthem.. also. Just so everyone’s clear.. I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. Jersey Shore Recap: Is There a "Ronpage" on the Horizon?

There was one troubling sight on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation this week… … along with many signs of serious trouble on the horizon. But let’s start with the former, shall we? Let’s start with the roommates heading to Las Vegas to watch Vinny Guadagnino take part in Sin City’s most scandalous male striptease show, Chippendales. Poor Vinny, however, ended up spraining his ankle before his month-long residency could begin — and he was petrified of what the show’s producers might say in response. Thankfully, the “Keto Guido” smiled and joked and charmed their socks off like only he can convincing them he would merely stay off the injured foot until he had to go stage. This meant he was bound to a scooter the entire time. Cue the mockery! Pauly D especially went off on his pal for this mode of transportation, while Vinny mom called her son multiple times to check in on him. “Hi, Vin,” Paula said out of extreme concern when he answered the phone. “How you doin’, honey? Oh my God, Vinny. I wanted to kill myself when I saw you on that scooter. Is it still swollen, Vin? Buy the bags of peas.” “Ma, they have ice packs. I don’t need peas,” Vinny responded. “Well, the peas conform to the ankle, that’s why. I swear to God,” she explained. Rolling his eyes, Vinny said the typical son stuff and hung up the phone, only to have her call back moments later. “Buy the bags of the mixed vegetables, anything,” his mom begged, again quite solemnly. While this was all in good fun, Vinny and Pauly were later legitimately concerned about Ronnie’s ongoing erratic behavior. “I haven’t talked to Ronnie since his daughter’s birthday, and I just assumed everything was good because when he’s quiet on social media, there’s nothing,” Pauly said, adding: “Then I know he was in Cabo right now. “And then all of a sudden, he’s posting erratically again. That’s how I know something’s wrong, I just don’t know what’s wrong. I hope he’s okay.” “Me, too,” Vinny replied. “But our instincts are usually right. I wanna sit here and be like, ‘Oh, it’s fine. He turned his life around.’ But we always say that, and then it gets 10 times worse. And that shit is toxic.” That shit, of course, is Ronnie’s romance with Jen Harley . Speaking in his confessional, Pauly made it clear this wasn’t just for show. He’s sincerely worried. “I keep up with Ronnie on social media. That’s how I know what he’s up to. So I check in once in a while, and check that he’s in Mexico. I’m like, ‘Great, alright, he’s with his friends, having a good time.’ “And then he posts a photo of the baby. I’m like, ‘Alright, he wants to show that he’s missing his baby. That’s fine.’ “Then another baby photo, another baby photo. When he posts this, I know something’s wrong.” To their great, these stars approached Ronnie and asked how he was doing. (He checked into rehab early this year for alcoholism and depression .) They didn’t fear the confronation, but they did grow scared over what he had to say. “Me and Jen are good, bro,” Ron said when Pauly asked how his relationship with Harley was going, continuing as follows: “Yeah, we’re good. We haven’t been fighting. Everything’s been going good lately, you know? “Today’s a good day, and that’s all I can worry about. I just — I been good, bro. Just one day at a time, and that’s really all I can do, bro.” Will Jen be stopping by Vegas any time soon? No, Ronnie retorted. “I have my life with her, and I have my life with you guys. I’m just kind of cleaning up my mess at this point from last year, if you wanna just call it that.” Pauly said he understood, yet the whole conversation was so awkward. He later told the camera he wanted to give Ron “the benefit of the doubt because he’s coming out of rehab. Maybe he’s fine. Maybe they’re good. I don’t know. “Listen, he’s my brother at the end of the day. I wanna see his life flourish! I don’t wanna see it turn into a mess. But the past is the past; he keeps reliving it.” After Ronnie exited, Pauly FaceTimed Vinny to let him know what Ron had said about Jen. “I can feel and sense a Ronpage about to happen,” he said ominously. “But I hope I’m wrong.” Nope, man. You were not totally wrong . View Slideshow: Jersey Shore: Battered Ronnie Lies to Protect Jen Harley AGAIN For Some Reason!

Derick Dillard: Just Get Over How I Bullied Jazz Jennings!

Notorious bigot Derick Dillard’s transphobia is so intense that it tanked his reality career. Some of his fans hope that he might express some degree of regret — or maybe even apologize — for verbally attacking a teenage girl. Instead, Derick says that people should just “get over it already.” Ugh. “QUESTION: What do you consider to be the most pressing civil rights questions?” Derick asked his followers on Twitter. It’s not the right question to ask, since no single issue can be tackled alone. Civil rights work has to be intersectional or it does little good. “Thank you!” Derick replied to a no-longer-available tweet. “There’s no right answer; I’m just interested in what people feel are the biggest issues.” “I agree with you,” he then affirmed to his follower. “That we should always treat everyone with dignity and fairness.” “Great!” replies another tweet, who then asks Derick: “So you can now apologize to @JazzJennings, right?” Instead of ignoring the tweet or replying “hey, that’s a good idea,” he instead doubled down on his general awfulness. “Oh get over it already,” Derick demanded. He wrote: “Any comments were directed @TLC and the parents.” “I love @JazzJennings,” he claimed, all evidence to the contrary. Then, in a sentence that would be random if you didn’t know how his twisted mind works, he concluded: “We have got to protect children!” See, Derick Dillard thinks that Jazz Jennings’ parents are “abusing” her by accepting and affirming who she is. While it’s absurd and insulting for anyone to claim that, it’s almost comical coming from someone who married into the Duggar family. Even before Josh’s molestation scandal was uncovered, the Duggars were notorious for their monstrously abusive parenting practices. In the mean time, Jazz’s parents simply let her be herself from a young age, giving her love and emotional support. But to Derick’s distorted worldview, a “good” parent would force their child to live out a lie that matches whatever was scribbled on their birth certificate. In August of 2017, totally out of the blue, Derick took to Twitter to rail against TLC for the show, I Am Jazz . I Am Jazz has followed Jazz Jennings for years as she experiences her teenage years. Jazz is very fortunate in that her family has been supportive of her gender since she was very young. She’s always know that she is a girl. She was also able to undergo bottom surgery — the term for genital alteration, sometimes known as gender confirmation surgery. Not all trans folks experience enough dysphoria to get bottom surgery (or have the money to afford it if they wanted to), but Jazz underwent that in 2018. TLC’s cameras followed Jazz through that part of her journey — and that’s part of why Derick thinks that the show is “bad.” Even though trans folks have existed across numerous cultures for thousands of years, Derick thinks that hiding their existence from kids will magically stop kids from being trans. That’s not a surprising point of view — his ilk have been saying the same about gay and bi people for generations. It’s not true for htem, either. What really happens when you raise your kids in a bubble where they don’t know about LGBTQ+ folks is that kids who are think something’s wrong with them. Some will go into denial. Others will live with their secret for decades, feeling misplaced shame over who they are. Either Derick would prefer that minorities remain silent, invisible, and miserable … or he really thinks that they just hear of trans people existing and go “oh, I’ll try that for fun.” So no, Derick, people are not going to “get over” your clownish transphobia. It got you fired and it got you hated, and you deserve both. View Slideshow: Jazz Jennings Dismisses Derick Dillard: Who Cares What He Says?!?

Amber Portwood Keeps an Arsenal of Weapons In Her House: Should She Be Arrested Before She Hurts Someone?

Back in July, Amber Portwood was arrested for domestic violence . In his report to police, her then-boyfriend Andrew Glennon revealed that she had attacked him with a machete. In an audio recording leaked on Thursday, Portwood threatened to stab Glennon . During their intense argument, he stated that she had recently destroyed a security camera with her sword. The situation raises many questions, chief among them — why does Amber have so many weapons, and has she lost her damn mind? Fortunately, The Ashley's Reality Roundup was able to get to the bottom of these mysteries . Here's what we know so far about this increasingly bizarre situation: 1. Angry Amber We’ve known for quite some time that Amber has a bit of an anger problem. But few suspected the issue was THIS severe. 2. How Is She Still Employed? Amber has a long history of violent behavior, but the events of the past two months have highlighted the extent of her abusive tendencies. 3. In-Home Fireworks It all started when Amber was arrested after attacking Andrew on July 4. She was apparently enraged by the fact that he was causing them to run late for a fireworks display. 4. Stay Classy Amber has accused Amber of attacking him while he was holding the couple’s 1-year-old son, James. 5. Scary Stuff Andrew says that at one point, he locked himself inside a bedroom with James, but Amber began to break down the door. 6. Be Safe, Though: Tekashi 6ix9ine Housed In The Snitch Unit

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital There was never any doubt that Tekashi 6ix9ine would be singing like a bird once the Feds got their hands on him. Considering how tattletales are treated in crime circles ( his own family sees the jig ), the Brooklyn rapper is being housed with other snitches for his safety. In fact, Tekashi is probably doing better than most inmates. Reports TMZ : Fact is … the feds believe Tekashi is already safe and secure in the facility he’s called home for nearly a year. The joint houses other snitches, all of whom have the same problem … certain people want to kill many of them and are willing to pay a hefty price to get the job done. The facility has a unit where a bunch of the snitches live. They spend all of their time with each other … no other inmates allowed. They have a common area where tables are set up for meals. It’s strictly a catering-in unit. Food carts come and go all day. They have exercise equipments and a TV in the common area and they sleep in a dormitory setting. Tekashi is facing 47 years in the bing if convicted of his crimes. However, prosecutors recently detailed how he will be basically pointing the finger at everyone in his crew, as well as admitting to his own crimes. The result is he’ll do significantly less time, while his rap career is basically a wrap. He may want to lose the face tattoos sooner than later, too.

Rejected!: Lebron James Attempt To Trademark “Taco Tuesday” Denied

Source: Icon Sportswire / Getty Well, at least he tried. LeBron James attempt at trademarking his new favorite phrase “Taco Tuesday” was rejected on Wednesday (September 11) by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Unless you been under a rock for the past few months, Bron takes to Instagram to remind us on Tuesday’s that the James Gang enjoys tacos on that particular day of the week. LBJ’s use of “Taco Tuesday” became quite popular among his fans, James definitely noticed hence why he even attempted to trademark it. Unfortunately, his attempt was rejected like one of his chase-down blocks he is famous for on the court. View this post on Instagram #LeBronJames was planning on trademarking the term #TacoTuesday. His application has been denied. The refusal, issued at 6:26 PM today, finds that TACO TUESDAY is a “commonplace message” and therefore fails to function as a trademark. #TacoTuesday A post shared by PMW HIP-HOP OFFICIAL (@pmwhiphop_) on Sep 11, 2019 at 10:27pm PDT According to the patent office, the phrase is “a commonplace term, message or expression widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognized concept or sentiment.” .The patent office cited multiple news articles pointing out how widely used the term is “to express enthusiasm for tacos by promoting and celebrating them on a dedicated weekday.” The patent office also pointed out how similar the phrase is to “Techno Taco Tuesday” that is already trademarked by a company in Las Vegas . They stated, “merely omitting some of the wording from a registered mark may not overcome a likelihood of confusion.” Despite taking an L, James team is looking at the decision in a positive light, basically saying the office gave Bron what he wanted all along. A spokesperson claimed that with the patent office refusing to trademark the phrase, it offered LBJ protection from liability if he used “Taco Tuesday” in other mediums. “If this opens the door for ‘Taco Tuesday’ to be open to everybody, all the better. That would be a great outcome of this. The entire purpose of this is to protect Lebron and subsequently everybody else.” Bron and his team have six months to challenge the patent office’s decision. But, according to Josh Gerben, a lawyer who specializes in trademarks it’s unlikely he will. — Photo: Icon Sportswire / Getty

Fix It, Jesus: DeRay McKesson Reignites Feud With Shaun King: ‘I Tried To Engage Offline…’

S haun King and DeRay McKesson once worked closely together but had an epic falling out that played out on Twitter years ago. Like most social media feuds, it was hard to tell who was right or wrong, but people still took sides. Since then, they have rarely mentioned each other — until now. DeRay McKesson wrote a scathing and long piece on King. He then implies King stole money from Justice Together, where McKesson was a board member at one point, and said, “To date, it is not clear that Shaun filed the appropriate taxes for Justice Together, as there is no 990 form available for public review from the IRS website.” He also slammed Shaun King’s fundraising report, claiming it was not independent. McKesson also alleged he “did not ‘raise’ millions. He took credit for other people’s work… He takes credit for 100% of all funds raised for any fundraiser whose link he has ever posted online, in an e-mail blast, or re-tweeted .” McKesson also referenced the Clarissa Brooks incident, where King demanded an apology after she reportedly said that he stole or spent money that was raised for Cyntoia Brown , which King claimed he never raised money for. McKesson cites a bunch of failed projects from King. Basically, McKesson believes King is a fraud. King has been defending his name for weeks after Rihanna announced she will honor the Morehouse man at an upcoming awards ceremony. Social media went ham and demanded that she reconsider . In response, King released a 72-page report of “ every single penny I’ve ever raised since” Black Lives Matter began. The documents were compiled and authored in part by people like Tamika Mallory , Co-Chair of The Women’s March and Co-Founder of Justice League NYC and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt . The report focused on fundraisers that King promoted through his social media accounts and provided what King said was a full accounting of his financial relationship with Real Justice PAC and Action PAC along with five years of his tax returns. In addition, King said the authors of the fundraising report had unlimited access to his and his family’s checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, retirement accounts and money management software. “ I’ve helped raise over $34.5 million for families, charities, causes, & campaigns,” King tweeted Tuesday morning. “A 7 person expert review board inspected every penny – including the past 5 years of my tax returns. The family of Botham Jean , the man who was killed by Dallas police officer Amber Guyger a year ago this Friday, had nothing but glowing words for King. “We have had the pleasure of interacting with Shaun King in the months following Botham’s murder,” Jean’s family wrote. “Shaun has become more than another voice for our family. He has become our friend. He has advocated for the Jean family, spoke up for us, dried our tears and held our hands. We are grateful for his support as are many other families who have met him. In this photo Shaun King welcomed our family into his home to do what he does best — nourish.” Read King’s full report here.
