The Reason For Racial Wealth Gap Pinpointed Apparently, doing all the right things” isn’t quite enough for Black folks to close the wealth gap between ourselves and whites …and it all boils down to one big factor. No it’s not hard work, higher education, or going into more lucrative fields. The bottom line is…inheritance. Many white people are simply born with a claim to substantial amounts of family money. According to Bloomberg , recent findings from the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Consumer Finances suggest that the gap in wealth between white households and African American homes lands at $13 in net wealth in median white households for every $1 in net wealth of the median black household. However, the traditional methods of wealth accumulation do virtually nothing for Blacks to begin to close said gap. A study from researchers Brandeis University and public policy group Demos finds that neither attending college, raising children in a two-parent household, working full time, nor spending less does anything to the racial wealth gap. For instance, college attendance is one of the number one ways Black people seek to widen their earning potential. While it definitely helps us to earn more and thus accumulate more wealth, the median white adult attending college already has 7.2 times the wealth of the median black adult. The same goes for two-parent homes, full time employment, curbing spending, etc. — the average white person making the same exact moves already has more money. Another study from Duke University also shoots down the myth of African Americans being too-heavy spenders and over-consumers. It’s 2 & Counting for Jessa Duggar and her husband Ben Seewald who welcomed a baby boy – their second son – earlier this week. While we still don’t know the name of Spurgeon’s little brother (it’s possible Jessa and Ben don’t), we have seen a photo and video. And now, a photo of the new family of four! The couple welcomed their newborn son Monday, and his big brother Spurgeon, 15 months, is supposedly super excited about this. To the point that he understands, at least. If you watch Counting On online , you know full well that they didn’t reveal the gender until the little boy entered the world at 4:26 a.m. Weighing in 8 lbs. and 11 oz. and measuring 21 3/4 in. long, he was a good-sized boy like his brother, and he and his mom are healthy. “Mom and baby are both doing well,” said the duo in a statement that morning. “We are so thankful to God for this precious new gift of life.” “We are excited to be a family of four!” And here are those four together … Jessa, 24, and Ben, 21, who have been married since November 2014, have also been open about their desire to adopt in the future. Her recent labor may fuel that too. “I was teasing him when I was in labor,” Jessa recalls. “I don’t really think I was teasing, actually, I told him while I was in labor.” “‘Babe, we are not having any more kids after this,'” she recalls telling Ben in the head of the moment. “We are adopting all the rest!” We find it hard to believe that they’re done with biological kids already, but Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald adopting is not a new topic. The couple has discussed since before Spurgeon was born, and having now been married two years, state policies will be more favorable. Tired but beaming Jessa and Ben also introduced their second child on video today, proudly showing him off to fans for the first time. They did know it was a son, BTW. They just didn’t share. “It was definitely a challenge trying to keep the gender a secret,” added Ben, who says this one will likely also end up with a unique name. Just like the first one, they haven’t settled on anything. Ben and Jessa famously didn’t reveal Spurgeon’s name for days … because until he was born and they got to know him, he didn’t have one. It looks like this time, they’re repeating that pattern. “When the baby was finally born and we got to hold him for the first time, I started crying,” said Jessa. “I think Ben had tears in his eyes.” “We want to thank everyone for their love and prayers and support for us during this labor and delivery,” added Jill’s younger sister. Amusingly, fans and several Duggar family members themselves tried to guess the gender and they overwhelmingly predicted a girl. First up, there’s this interview that Barbara gave to Radar about the birth of Jenelle’s third child , Ensley. “David is very excited about having Ensley,” she said, which is kind of shocking, because she and David have never gotten along . But don’t worry, nothing’s changed. Barbara added that “Everything was good until he threw me out of the room.” So she was in the delivery room with Jenelle while she was preparing to give birth. That’s sweet, right? Or, well, it would have been, until that part where David kicked her out. When Barb was asked exactly why David threw her out, she said “I don’t know, maybe it’s me! I haven’t seen them.” As for Jenelle’s side of the story, she tweeted (and deleted!) that “She was never kicked out of any delivery room.” “She says that so people feel pity for her. She ends up arguing with my boyfriend and leaves.” So who do we believe here? Talk of Rob and Blac Chyna breaking up has been circulating pretty much from the time they first started hooking up. Now, it seems like we have more reason than ever to believe that Rob and Blac are officially dunz-o. According to Us Weekly, Blac was spotted canoodling with some dude in a Patriots hat while watching the Super Bowl at Estrella’s MA Theater in Los Angeles. Of course, this might just mean that Blac is cheating on Rob (which has also been widely rumored), but it seems that Blac would probably make more of an effort to conceal her hook up if she and Rob were still together. We know that the parents of Dream Kardashian did break up just before the holidays, but they appeared to reconcile shortly thereafter. “She walked out when she couldn’t take it anymore, but it was the heat of the moment,” a source close to the couple tells Us. The breakup was an ugly one with reports of Blac drunkenly attacking Rob and having to be physically restrained by Kris Jenner’s boyfriend, Corey Gamble. It seemed unlikely that these two would give their relationship another chance, but they were living together again just days later. It now seems like a classic case of trying to stay together for the kid … … or perhaps for the reality show. Katherine Jackson Suffers Elder Abuse By Nephew Trent The matriarch of the Jackson family, Katherine Jackson, has filed a restraining order against her nephew amid claims that she has become a victim of elder abuse. According to TMZ , the order was filed against Trent Lamar Jackson. The papers pinpoint Trent as an “abusive con-man” who took advantage of an aging Mrs. Jackson for the last few years in an effort to control her finances, love rent-free in her guest house, and keep her away from her children so they wouldn’t intervene with his plans. The 86-year-old also reportedly believes that Trent’s been siphoning money from her accounts. She says that he closely monitors her conversations with her own kids, and she has to go so far as to hide in her closet so she can speak freely to them. Her kids are willing to testify against Trent in court. Katherine is currently in London visiting Janet and the new baby , but says she fears what Trent might do to her on her return home, now that his actions have been revealed. She tried to fire Trent from his 6-figre job as her driver with the Sheriff present for safety just last week, but says that Trent took off just as the cops and her lawyer arrived on the scene. Trent now has to stay 100 yards away from Katherine, move out of her guest house, and return all his keys to her properties. SMH! No wonder Paris was concerned about her grandmother all those years ago! Who knows how long this has been going on. Donald Trump has been president for 18 days now, and the impact of his haphazard style of governance and willingness to flout the central tenets of the Constitution can be seen everywhere. But hey, on the bright side … at least the situation has helped Lena Dunham shed some pounds? Yes, the living embodiment of the phrase “born on third, thinks she hit a triple” stopped by the Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show on Monday morning Asked about her recent weight loss, Dunham credited the regime of Commander Baby Fists with inadvertently helping her drop the extra pounds: “Donald Trump became president and I stopped being able to eat food,” she told Stern. “Everyone’s been asking like, ‘What have you been doing?’ And I’m like, ‘Try soul-crushing pain and devastation and hopelessness and you, too, will lose weight.’” Yes, Lena says she became so distraught since Trump was elected back in November that she basically stopped eating. Tens of millions of Americans have taken issue with Trump’s Muslim ban and other controversial measures, but Dunham’s dislike for the president is both political and personal: “He said I was a B-list actor with no mojo,” she griped to Stern. B-list? Pretty tame by Trump trash talk standards, but it doesn’t take much to wound Lena. This is far from the first time that Dunham has criticized Trump, and she’s been admirably scathing in her assessment of his first weeks in office during her current press tour to promote the sixth and final season of Girls. “All he does is talk about women like they’re objects,” she said at TimesTalks: A Final Farewell to the Cast of Girls. “It doesn’t reclaim our power to talk about him like he’s an object. It doesn’t reclaim our power to insult his physicality.” Obviously, this story has us deeply conflicted. Dunham is right to be so critical of Trump, but at the same time, she’s Lena Dunham. The same Lena Dunham who tried to reach out to women who have had abortions by stating that she wishes she’d had an abortion . The same Lena Dunham who takes to social media to complain about culturally insensitive sushi and guns in Jason Bourne movies . At first, agreeing with Lena on an issue made us feel ill at ease, but then we had an epiphany: Maybe she’s fostering unity by offering us something the whole nation can agree on: No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, everyone can agree that the only appropriate response when Dunham starts talking about the importance of her cellulite is looooong sigh punctuated by an exaggerated eye roll. In case you forgot, or somehow missed it, our nation’s finest meme-creators spent way too much of 2016 enamored with a late primate named Harambe. The former Cincinnati Zoo inhabitant gained immortality through tragedy after a toddler fell into his enclosure, and authorities made the difficult decision to kill Harambe out of fear that he might harm the child. From those unlikely beginnings, a legend was born: Social media couldn’t get enough of sarcastic tributes to the gorilla. Thousands promised to display their genitals in solidarity for reasons that remain unclear. And a truly embarrassing number of (hopefully) young folks registered write-in votes for Harambe in the 2016 presidential election. Just when you thought Harambe obsession couldn’t get anymore ridiculous, it went ahead and did exactly that, because this is 2017, and there’s no ridiculousness ceiling anymore. It seems an eBay user made an amazing discovery while enjoying a powdery, Trump-colored snack recently. Behold – the Harambe Cheeto: Yes, the above item was posted earlier this week, and bids immediately went through the roof. See our earlier comment about the absurdity of the year we’re living in. “I opened up a bag of Flamin Hot Cheetos and as soon as I looked inside I came across this unique Cheetos that looks like Harambe the gorilla,” reads the item description. “It measures up to about 1 1/2 inches in length.” If your interest is piqued, and feel like you just have to have the ‘Rambe Cheet’ for your very own, we have good news and bad news: The good news is, you’re not alone. Kim Zolciak has found a way to distract people from her ridiculous cleavage. The reality star shared something her four-year old son, Kash, brought home from school this week, bragging to her followers on Snapchat about all the things Kash loves about her dad. For example, according to the following image of a school questionnaire, Kroy Biermann is 51 years old. He likes to ride his four-wheeler. His favorite food is steak. His favorite drink is Sprite. His job is to play football. And Kash loves his dad because “he lets me hold his real gun.” Wait… WHAT?!? Biermann lets his four-year old child hold his real gun? Moreover, this is something Zolciak wanted to tell her followers all about? As you can see below, Kim wrote as a caption to the photo, “I [love] this!” But social media users didn’t exactly feel the same way. If Zolciak means that she loves seeing all the ways in which her son loves her husband, then, sure, absolutely. She ought to be proud and excited over this questionnaire. Last year, you may recall, Kash dressed up in a military outfit and carried a fake gun for Halloween. He posted a picture of himself holding it toward the camera on his Instagram account. (Yes, the four-year old has his own Instagram account.) The picture earned Zolciak and her family a lot of backash, but apparently not enough. Gun advocates here will likely say that it’s important for kids to learn gun safety as early in their lives as possible, and that much is true. If parents know that their kids will be handling guns as they get older, then it’s definitely a good thing to make sure these children know what they’re doing. But still. Four years old?!? Zolciak and Biermann got married in November 2011. Together, they share six kids – Brielle, 19, Ariana, 15, KJ, 5, Kash, 4, and 3-year-old twins Kane and Kaia. Unfortunately, it comes at the expense of a generation of a schoolchildren. Moments ago, Betsy DeVos – Trump’s pick as U.S. Secretary of Education – was confirmed for the position in a vote so close that a tie had to be broken by Vice President Mike Pence. The 51-50 vote officially makes DeVos one of the controversial cabinet members in American history. And why are so many unhappy about the appointment? Well, there’s the fact that DeVos will be in charge of our nation’s public schools, despite the fact that she never attended one, worked in one, or sent her children to one. And the fact that she favors privatizing public schools, despite the fact that such systems promote racial segregation and fail to benefit others besides wealthy CEOs like herself and Trump. Or how about the fact that openly bought her post through millions in campaign contributions to Trump and many of the Republican senators who voted today. Here’s a helpful look at how her cash was distributed. Little Marco must be tough to buy off! Two Republican senators did vote against the appointment, proving that there is some opposition to Trump’s billionaires first agenda. Just not enough to make any real difference. This is far from the only controversial cabinet appointment made by Trump, and the president seems intent on privatizing or eliminating any of federal programs and services. There were cries of outrage when Rex Tillerson was appointed Secretary of State because the Exxon-Mobil CEO seems to have been chosen for no other reason than that he’s a close business ally to Vladimir Putin. Millions were infuriated when Rick Perry was chosen as Secretary of Energy because he admitted to being clueless as to what the department does, and had previously spoken of doing away with it. And yet the DeVos nomination somehow seems even worse. Almost like the people of this country care about their children’s future. Did Trump overplay his hand with this one?
