Postcard from Venice: Fassbender Brings Glory to Shame; Pacino Reigns in Wilde Salome

When Steve McQueen’s Hunger debuted at Cannes in 2008, Michael Fassbender — playing Irish hunger-strike activist Bobby Sands — was a revelation. Now he’s ubiquitous, potentially to the point of overexposure, appearing in comic-book blockbusters ( X-Men: First Class ) and tony literary adaptations ( Jane Eyre ) alike. Yet each performance, and each project, is so different from the last that it’s still a joy to watch him. He has one of the gifts that great actors need, the ability to be focused and unselfconscious at the same time. He knows when to surrender and when to call every muscle and brain cell to attention. I fear someday he’ll win an Oscar and risk losing it all.

Teyana Taylor Comments On Fist Fight With Movie Director

Go here to see the original:

As previously reported from several media sources, Teyana Taylor got into a fist fight with movie director Jean-Claude La Marre on the set of Gang of Roses 2. She says it was self defense, that the Gang Of Roses director should never put his hands on a female. Check out the statement Teyana Taylor told Global Grind about the incident below. “Honestly at this point you know how when you’re just tired of all the drama, I’m just so over it and what that story (TMZ) sounds like, honestly it sounds like he was trying to promote his movie, that’s all that is. At the end of the day you don’t put your hands on any female, it was very unprofessional. That whole environment was very unprofessional, very inappropriate. It was just things that my eyes shouldn’t have seen. For him to put his hands on me was really hurtful. I don’t have a dad, I never had a dad and I ain’t about to have one today. I have never had a man raise his hand at me. It’s very emotional for me, it’s a very sensitive subject and at the end of the day, right is right and wrong is wrong. You never put your hands on a female. Period. When I came on set there was no food, there was no hair stylist, no make-up and the trailer was the size of my tub. I had to get my agent and my mom, who is my manager, involved and then we started getting hair and make up, but that only lasted for one day. He was just mad because I came in there and he felt that I was about my business and he didn’t like that and it felt like he already had a grudge against me. I was really supposed to only film for five days. The day me and him got into that altercation, that was day seven. Out of the kindness of my heart I came to do extra scenes for him so he would have an ending to his movie. On that day, my face was very, very swollen because of a problem with my tooth. That tooth thing was no joke. I could’ve died right there on set and he wouldn’t have even cared. That’s the point because he was more worried about himself. It was about him wanting to get his movie done so it was like, forget her tooth, her face is swollen but I want her to film more parts and I really don’t care if her face is swollen. He didn’t care and it took him to ignore my illness more than three times for me to finally raise my voice. I walked up to him and I was like — I walked to him crying, like my tooth is really hurting, my face is getting worse, I really have to go and he was like “Yeah okay … whatever…” He turned around and kept going about his business. So I raised my tone and I said look, I can’t wait a minute, I can’t wait two minutes, I can’t wait a second, I really, really need to go. He turned around and he said ‘Don’t f*cking scream at me b*tch’ and smacked his hand across my face and from there I defended myself.” Follow Me On Twitter @ itsJazzyFBaby Recent Posts: Bow Wow & Teyana Taylor On The Set Of Madea’s Big Happy Family [EXCLUSIVE CLIP] Teyana Taylor Poses For Nouss Somme Jewelry Revealing Teyana Taylor Photos Leak… Again & Again

Demi Lovato’s ‘Skyscraper’ Video Premieres

Clip keeps it simple, which, given the song’s power, is all it needs to do. By James Montgomery Demi Lovato in her video for “Skyscraper” Photo: Hollywood Records In recent days, Demi Lovato’s stirring new single “Skyscraper” has seemingly taken the world by storm (or at least the Internet). And, in what can only be described as “an incredibly refreshing change of pace,” the reason for its sudden surge in popularity has nothing to do with irony, our nascent sense of superiority or kittens (see: every popular YouTube clip in recent history, Rebecca Black’s “Friday”) and everything to do with the simple fact that she sings the hell out of it. But, in saying that, I’m probably downplaying several other reasons for the song’s ability to cut through the din. Like, for example, everything that’s happened in Lovato’s life leading up to this point or how, because of that, she connects with the song in ways that most didn’t think possible. She reveals new depths with each note, and when she hits that last chorus, and her voice is pushed to the point of breaking, well, if you don’t get goose bumps, then there’s a pretty good chance you’re not alive. In short, with one song, Demi Lovato has grown up before our very eyes. It’s sort of like we’ve all been handed this shiny new talent, seemingly out of the blue, and we don’t quite know how to react. So it’s fitting that such a career-making single now comes with an appropriately powerful music video, one that is bereft of any and all gimmickry (no elaborate costumes, epic set pieces or dazzling special effects) yet still manages to pack an emotional wallop. Directed by Mark Pellington (a man who knows a thing or two about making iconic clips), “Skyscraper” is nothing more than Lovato belting out the tune on the barren terrain of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Sure, there’s some dramatically billowing fabrics and some shattered glass, but really, the song is the star. And that simplicity is perfect here, because the song provides all the pyrotechnics necessary. There is also a moment, right before that knee-buckling final chorus, where Lovato looks directly into the camera and very nearly breaks into tears. I’m not sure if she’s acting or not, but I doubt it, and really, it’s not like it matters. Not when a singer connects to a song on such a visceral level, especially one who’s already been through the wringer. With “Skyscraper,” Lovato has not only proven that she’s capable of remarkable things, but that she’s a survivor too. And, really, there’s nothing more that needs to be said. Not when the song does all the talking for you. What did you think of the “Skyscraper” video? Share your reviews in the comments.
