Police performed a field sobriety test on Sam. He tanked. Adam Lanza Motive: Fear of Being Committed?

Could Adam Lanza’s motive for last week’s sickening Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have been fear of being committed to a psychiatric facility? Nancy Lanza, the 20-year-old’s mother, was in the process of having her son committed when he went on the killing spree, a lifelong family acquaintance said. A senior law enforcement official also confirmed that Adam Lanza’s anger over his mother’s plan is being investigated as a possible motive for the massacre. Lanza killed 28 people – himself, his mother, six adults and 20 children – in Newtown, Conn., marking one of the worst mass murders in recent memory. “From what I’ve been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed ,” said Joshua Flashman, 25. Flashman grew up not far from where the shooting took place. “Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry.” “I think this could have been it, what set him off.” It’s unclear whether Adam’s mother, Nancy Lanza, was really filing that specific paperwork, because court officials say that such records are sealed. She would have had to go through a protracted process to acquire legal rights to commit an adult to a hospital or psychiatric ward against his will. As for ties to the school, Nancy Lanza was not a teacher, as was initially reported, but she reportedly volunteered with kindergartners there for years. Flashman said that Adam “believed she cared more for the children than she did for him.” On the day of the massacre, Nancy was Adam’s first victim at the house were they lived. Flashman said Nancy was good friends with the school’s principal, Dawn Hochsprung , and psychologist, both of whom were killed during the incident. Adam had also reportedly cut off communication with his father, Peter, in 2010. It’s unclear if he kept in touch with his older brother, Ryan Lanza , 24. Investigators’ efforts to gain insight into the deeply disturbed mind that planned and executed this massacre have been exhaustive, and not without roadblocks. Police believe Adam Lanza’s hard drive may have been damaged by the killer in the days leading up to the shooting, rendering its data unreadable.

Man Arrested With 47 Guns After Threatening Indiana Elementary School

An Indiana man who allegedly threatened to “kill as many people as he could” at an elementary school near his home has been arrested – and 47 guns were found at his home. Forty-seven. Von Meyer, 60, of Cedar Lake, Ind., was arrested on criminal charges of felony intimidation, domestic battery and resisting law enforcement on Saturday. Cedar Lake Police officers were called to Meyer’s home early Friday after he allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire once she fell asleep, the statement said. He was being held as of Sunday afternoon without bond at the Lake County Jail, pending an initial hearing on the charges, police said in a statement. Meyer also threatened to enter nearby Jane Ball Elementary School “and kill as many people as he could before police could stop him,” the statement said. Meyer’s home is less than 1,000 feet from the school and linked to it by trails and paths through a wooded area, police said, making the threat even more disturbing. Police notified officials and boosted security at all area schools Friday, the same day 26 people, including 20 students, were killed in a Connecticut school shooting . On Saturday, officers served warrants at Meyer’s home and arrested him. The statement said police had learned that Meyer kept many weapons. They weren’t kidding. Officers searched the home, finding 47 guns and ammunition worth more than $100,000 hidden throughout the home. Many of the weapons were collector’s guns.

Jesus Take The Wheel: Birmingham Man Opens Fire And Shoots Three People In An Alabama Hospital

End of days … Man Open Fires In Alabama Hospital Via HuffPo : BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Authorities say an Alabama police officer who was shot after a triple killing and a two-county chase is improving. The Heflin Police Department says officer Jackie Stovall was removed from a breathing machine on Sunday and is stable. Interim Police Chief A.J. Benefield says Stovall asked whether officers had stopped the shooting suspect, and he wanted to know about his own parents and grandchild. Benefield provided the update on the police department’s Facebook page. Cleburne County Sheriff Joe Jacks says authorities are still trying to verify the identities of three people shot to death Saturday in a mobile home in eastern Alabama. Jacks says the man believed responsible for the slayings led officers on a chase that left Stovall severely wounded and the suspect dead about 25 miles away. Easy access to guns in a country as violent as ours makes as much sense as an open bar at an AA convention. Gun control is a discussion that NEEDS to happen…

The Connecticut school shooting left 27 dead, including Lanza and 18 children. Adam Lanza, 20, reportedly shot and killed his mother, a teacher, then targeted her kindergarten class at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Police in Hoboken, N.J. are questioning his brother Ryan Lanza , 24, who was originally reported as the shooter; the N.Y. Post says he is not a suspect. The Post says Adam Lanza and his mother “had a dispute” of some kind. Lanza used two handguns and a .223-caliber assault rifle in the rampage. Officials also said New Jersey state police are searching a location there in connection with the shootings. Adam Lanza is believed to dead inside the school. It was initially reported that Lanza shot and killed his father in Hoboken, N.J., before arriving at the school in Connecticut; this has not been confirmed. After the shots were fired, three people ran into the hallway but only the vice principal crawled back. The newspaper reports that as of 11 a.m., police were still searching the school with dogs; the death toll rose dramatically and shockingly throughout today. The event appeared to be the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007, which left 32 people and the gunman dead. Story developing …

LAPD Apologizes to Notorious B.I.G.’s Family For Autopsy Release

LAPD detectives have apologized to the family of the late Notorious B.I.G. for failing to warn them about the planned release of his autopsy report last Friday. The rapper (real name Christopher Wallace) was killed 15 years ago in a drive-by, but the Notorious B.I.G. autopsy report had never seen the light of day. The detectives intended to notify the rapper’s family , but the report was released prematurely “due to an administrative error,” officials said in a statement. “Our detectives personally spoke with the Wallace family (Friday) night, and apologized for not notifying them prior to the release” said Capt. Billy Hayes. The 1997 slaying remains unsolved, and under investigation, Hayes added: “Obviously this has been a challenging case; We hope that witnesses or other people with information will come forward and give us the clues we need.” Why release the report now in any case? L.A. County’s Chief Coroner Investigator Craig Harvey said a security hold on the report’s release was just lifted. The 23-page report revealed the rapper was hit by four bullets after leaving an event in March 1997, and that only the fourth – which hit his heart, lung and colon – killed him. The rapper’s family complained Friday that they were not notified of its release, and also criticized police for not closing one of L.A.’s highest-profile unsolved murders. Both the LAPD and the FBI investigated Wallace’s killing, which came just months after another rap superstar, Tupac Shakur, was gunned down in Las Vegas. The FBI looked into whether any LAPD were involved in Wallace’s shooting. The deaths of Wallace and Shakur, both unsolved, have been the subject of rampant speculation, and are a tragic but indelible part of the genre’s lore. The one-time friends and hip-hop pioneers became rivals and instigators in a wide-ranging, often violent East Coast-West Coast rap rivalry during the 1990s.
