Flipping Birds! Prison Pigeon Found With Coke And Weed Tied To Its Back

Drug smugglers are giving new meaning to the term ‘flipping birds.’ Police say inmates are training pigeons to smuggle drugs after a pigeon was found struggling to fly over a prison wall with a sack of coke strapped to its back. (Newser) – Police in Colombia busted a pigeon narco-trafficker after it was caught trying to fly into a prison with too heavy a load. The bird, which is now being cared for by authorities, was found struggling to fly with 40 grams of marijuana and 5 grams of cocaine paste strapped to its wings, the BBC reports. Police, who believe the bird was trained by inmates, say they’ve caught other pigeons attempting to carry phone cards into the jail. Talk about criminal ingenuity. Source

Mass Police, Firefighter Layoffs Begin In Camden, NJ

These seemingly unnecessary lay offs may make more damage and empty more pockets than this state is predicting, as we’re sure they expect to save a few bucks here; while removing patrol from their violence ridden streets. With the crime rate in Camden being five times the national average according to the FBI, we have to take a second to ask ourselves, what the hell is going on? Some police officers are turning in their badges as part of deep municipal layoffs that began today and that could be a blow to the quality of life in this city, one of the nation’s most impoverished and crime-ridden. As many as 383 workers, representing one-fourth of the local government’s work force, are expected to lose their jobs, including about half the police force and one-third of the city’s firefighters. Firefighters are planning to march to City Hall today, and Mayor Dana Redd is planning a noon news conference to talk about the layoffs in a city facing a huge budget deficit and declining state aid.

Tragic Irony: Housing Projects Named After MLK Show Sharp Increases In Violence

What do you get when you cross Dr. Martin Luther King with Malcom X? A street you can’t walk down. Only a day after celebrating the vision and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, a new study has been released showing that peace is hard to come by on streets named after the icon. Martin Luther King Jr. Houses on Malcolm X Blvd in NY is just one of many housing developments that have seen significant crime increases over the past year. Violence in city housing developments spiked last year, led by a sharp increase in Bronx murders and Harlem shootings, statistics show. Residents were not surprised. “You can’t avoid it,” Bronx resident Maria Rojas-Garcia, 61, said of the violence. “We got everything here. Just last summer a young man was shot in front of our building. “There is no peace.” Rojas-Garcia lives with her 83-year-old mother in the Edenwald Houses, the Bronx’s biggest housing project and one with a persistent gang problem. The Edenwald Houses is one of 14 developments covered by police officers assigned to Police Service Area 8, a division of the NYPD’s Housing Bureau in the east and north Bronx. Police did not have statistical breakdowns by housing development, but the numbers show that PSA 8 investigated 14 murders last year, up from two in 2009. There were 37 shootings at those houses, compared with 14 in 2009. Edenwald residents said they don’t need numbers to tell their story. Be careful, they say, or be ready. “People are animals here,” said Jason Miller, 17, an admitted member of the Inwood Jungle Kids. “They hurt each other for no reason. You have to hang with the right crew. “We’re the top crew so nobody messes with us.” Police said the increase follows a year of sharp decreases. “Nonetheless, any murder or shooting is one too many,” said top NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. “We address crime spikes experienced in public housing with housing impact deployments, sometimes coordinated with precinct and transit impact teams, among many other strategies.” Shaquin Cameron, 20, has her own strategy – she moved out and is majoring in sociology at SUNY Albany. Her friend, Ta’Neyah Frazier, 19, would love to follow suit. “I want to leave here too.” she said. “It’s all I’ve known. I wonder what life is like, life outside here.” Such an option is less likely for Daniel Lewis, who has lived in Harlem’s Martin Luther King Jr. Houses for all but one of his 57 years. The development is just a few blocks from the north end of Central Park, but his surroundings are anything but pastoral. Busted door locks invite troublemakers, gunshots are fairly common and kids can’t play in the courtyard without fear. “It’s getting worse,” he said. Police statistics show 54 people were shot at Manhattan projects last year, compared with 37 in 2009. The sharpest increase occurred on the grounds of the developments in Harlem, East Harlem and Spanish Harlem, with shooting victims rising from 21 in 2009 to 40 last year. “I don’t even let my kids go to the window – and I live on the 12th floor,” said Christina Andrades, 34, a stay-at-home mother of three. “The bullets fly around here.” It looks like the only thing these people have a dream about is bussin’ a cap in your azz. FYI: Detroit Police Are On The Hunt For A “Monster” That Has Been Viciously Attacking Women All Year

The Detroit Police Department has been tracking a serial sexual assault predator since the 1st of the year. It’s crazy to think that someone can get away with attacks like this time after time and still not be caught or even have an idea of who he really is. Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee says that his investigators are still intensely searching for a what he called the monster that has been attacking women on the city’s northeast side. “I think we all have the same goal in mind, and that’s to bring this predator to justice,” Godbee said. “We’re not going to stop until we catch this individual.” He said there have been seven confirmed sexual assaults and one attempted assault since the first of the year. 1/1: 19100 block of E. 7 Mile at 5:54 a.m. 1/1: 14200 Gratiot Avenue at 6:15 a.m. 1/4: Gratiot and Linhurst area at 3:45 a.m. 1/5: 14000 block of Hazelridge at 10:30 p.m. 1/6: 18000 block of Schoenherr at 11 p.m. 1/8: Cadieux and I-94 area at 4:30 a.m. 1/10: Hollywood and Woodward area at 7:40 p.m. 1/14: 9000 block of Beaconsfield at 2:40 a.m. The last reported attack was Jan. 13. He said the victims have all been women between the ages of 17 and 33. He said the attacks have been linked to a possible serial rapist because all of incidents have similar elements that suggest their attacker’s modus operandi. He said all of the women have been attacked while they were alone; most of them had been waiting for or walking to bus stops. The rapist forces them at gunpoint to secluded locations where they are robbed and sexually assaulted, Godbee said. The Police in Detroit better find this guy, the city has enough trouble as it is without some sick, rapist, bastard going around terrorizing people. Source

Edward Furlong: Arrested, Broke as a Joke

Actor Edward Furlong was arrested yesterday for violating a domestic restraining order. Not only that, he’s behind in child support … and he’s broke. Ed told a judge this morning, “I’m out of money. I’m completely broke.” Furlong, 33, currently stars in the upcoming film The Green Hornet . FOR LONG : Doesn’t sound like Ed’s troubles are going away soon . A month behind in child support, Ed lamented that he has to pay 10 percent to his lawyer, 10 percent to his publicist and 10 percent to his manager. Think about it. After that, he only has 70 percent of his earnings to blow on stuff other than his kid … how the heck is he supposed to get by, man? In his defense, sort of, Furlong says the judge never took this into account when ordering the child support his ex, Rachael Kneeland, requested. She’s requested that he up that sum and spousal support. The judge didn’t decide whether to modify the support agreement, so it remains as is for now. Things aren’t looking so hot for Furlong in any case. Furlong was taken into custody yesterday, after allegedly violating a restraining order by getting too close to Kneeland. Sounds like a fun situation. Hey, at least he joined our celebrity mug shots gallery. That’s got to count for something … it’s a pretty exclusive club. And an awesome one.

Ted Williams: Headed to Rehab

A couple days after he was brought in to the police station, and just hours after the public watched him and his daughter spew allegations back and forth in separate interviews, Ted Williams has reportedly checked into rehab. Few details are known at this time, Dr. Phil actually played a role in convincing the recently homeless man to check into a treatment facility. “If Ted is ever going to get better, he’s got to be honest with himself and admit he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol,” says McGraw. “I’ve told him it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction.” Ted Williams and Mother Police were called to a Los Angeles hotel on Monday because Williams and his daughter got into a verbal confrontation. The later has since claimed her father drinks heavily every night. Williams has owned up to a history of alcohol abuse and illegal activity . Such honesty has helped the nation rally behind this man with an incredible voice, but it’s clear he still has a long way to go in his personal struggle.

We Are a Part of the Bieber Nation

According to recent reports, pop sensation Justin Bieber is romantically linked to Selena Gomez. In reaction to this news, Molly Matthews (age 13) has written the following letter: Dear Justin Bieber, This is – make that was – like your number one fan and future common law wife, Molly Matthews. I heard somewhere that “bieber” is like German for “love.” That is so amazing. So amazing! I recently carved the word “bieber” on my bass clarinet to like express my love for my two favorite things: my bass clarinet and you. But somebody like decided to get like all “bieber” with Selena Gomez! My mom like told me that Selena Gomez is some sort of illegal alien. I don’t even know what that means, but I do know that she probably does not play the bass clarinet. Yesterday I like resigned as the President and Public Relations Specialist of the “Future Common Law Wives of Justin Bieber Club.” I started that club with like my best friend, Jenny Welch. Jenny thinks she’s like God’s gift to the Bieb. And she doesn’t like the name of the club because you can have only like one common law wife. And she’s allergic to peanuts. And she smells like sour milk. Well, you wanna know what I did? You wanna know?? I like made a shiv out of my Justin Bieber barrette (that I got at Wal-Mart, along with your nail polish, which is like totally amazing) and literally cut Jenny. Would Selena Gomez like do that for you? But Justin, I still like love that cute hair helmet of yours. It’s like you’re like a captain in the love military. And I am – make that was – like your prisoner of love. Wow, that last sentence was like awesome. And like every time someone says anything bad about you on the Facebook, I like totally stick up for you. Like that time when you beat up that boy at his laser tag birthday party. Or when you got all gangsta on that kitten. Or when you demanded that like all the monkeys in your zoo be given Bieber haircuts. Or when you were given hormone injections to like delay puberty. And when people were calling you a modern-day eunuch, which I don’t even know what that means but it sounds pretty gangsta. I was like there for you! Justin, you’re like such a good singer, especially when the mall has such good acoustics. And you’re like amazing, and so cute, and you don’t wear braces or have acne, and I’m pretty sure you play the bass clarinet, and your nail polish line is like totally dope (I’m picturing you right now in a gangsta lab coat as you stir chemicals into a beaker and you’re singing “Baby”), and you’re really gangsta, and you’re gonna win like two Oscars and a Grammy, and I like totally made you a bracelet out of my baby teeth, which my mom kept. So, why did you like divorce me? When I hear the phone ring, I think it’s you. But it’s usually the guidance counselor or Jenny. Or the police. You know what my wish is for like 2011? Have you ever like seen “Misery” starring the like ever versatile Kathy Bates? Did you know Kathy Bates like played the bass clarinet in junior high? Anyway, I will like rescue you from some crazy snow storm and feed you like some amazing soup and force you to write a love ballad about me. I don’t know if you can actually write, but it will be awesome. And you will also be my common law husband. Justin, just remember that you are like Samson and I am like your Delilah. But I won’t make you cut your hair helmet because it’s like totally amazing. Wait, I hate you… Whatev, Justin! I will like totally forgive you when you dump that illegal alien Selena Gomez. With Much Bieber, Molly Matthews 🙂 PS – like totally text me! PSS – I can like totally play “Baby” on my bass clarinet!

Channing Tatum Talks Possible Johnny Depp ’21 Jump Street’ Cameo

‘It’s really his pick,’ he tells MTV News of roles Depp could play in big-screen adaptation of ’80s cop show. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Channing Tatum Photo: MTV News The last time we asked Johnny Depp about signing on for a cameo in a big-screen adaptation of “21 Jump Street,” the Oscar-nominated actor said simply, “I’m in. I think it’d be pretty easy.” That one question has one of the film’s stars declaring his love for MTV News. “Thank you, so much! Thank you, I love you!” laughed Channing Tatum , who’ll star alongside Jonah Hill in the upcoming project “We’re going to try and do it. With every piece of us, we’re going to try to do it.” Hill, who penned the script, has previously told us he has a specific cameo for Depp in mind, but Channing indicated that the original star of the ’80s TV series would be able to choose from a variety of roles. “There are a bunch of possible characters he could play,” the “Dilemma” star said. “It’s really his pick.” Tatum and Hill’s parts are already set: They’ll play undercover detectives sent back to pose as high school students. “What happens is they get caught up in the high school-ness as opposed to the police work,” Hill previously told MTV News . “And whenever they get too caught up in the high school drama, police work comes in. And whenever they get too caught up in the police work, high school drama comes in.” And just for the record, neither of their characters, Tatum said, are related to characters from the original series. So Tatum won’t be, say, the son of Depp’s Tom Hanson. “It’s an entirely new imagination of what ’21 Jump Street’ is,” he explained. “We’re not doing a spoof whatsoever. It will be crazy characters that are in very unreal circumstances sometimes.” Do you want to see Johnny Depp revisit his “21 Jump Street” character for the movie? Tell us in the comments!
