Drunk White JetBlue Passenger Calls Out for NAACP While Being Subdued

We don't hear so often from Utah Man, but we sure do hear a lot of airplane nightmares. Thankfully, this intoxicated troublemaker didn't make it past boarding before being arrested for assaulting a JetBlue employee. Unfortunately, his 8-year-old son watched as his white father screamed obscenities and called out for the NAACP. It will surprise no one to learn that this went down in Florida. Utah man Brandon Strong was at the Orlando International Airport when, according to police, he began harassing a woman. When that alleged verbal harassment escalated to the point of him calling the woman a “c–t,” JetBlue stepped in. JetBlue employees informed him that he would not be permitted to board the flight. According to a sworn statement by one of those employees, this is when Strong got physical. Strong allegedly became physically confrontational “I explained to him that he could not travel and asked for his son,” the JetBlue employee writes. “At that point,” the affidavit continues. “He pressed his iPad against my chest and pushed me.” The employee writes: “I pushed his hands away from my chest, and he attempted to grab me.” “We wrestled,” the affidavit says. “And myself and a couple other customers tried to restrain him.” The operative word there is that they tried to restrain the man. Police say that there were multiple 911 calls about the incident. (It turns out that people really take notice when you're violent at an airport — who knew?) According to Officer Jason Hajek's affidavit, Strong was very obviously intoxicated. Hajek wrote that he “could detect the strong odor of the impurities of alcohol on his breath.” Brandon Strong allegedly continued to resist, and was warned that he would be subdued. Strong was warned that he might be met with a “chemical spray.” Hajek writes that, with a crowd surrounding him, he fired “one short burst” of pepper spray at Strong. Pepper spray is a potent chemical weapon, and the Fire Department was called to offer treatment to those in the crowd who were impacted. During the scuffle, Strong yelled “Where is the NAACP?!” The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is America's oldest civil rights organization. While the NAACP has addressed many topics, including excessive force by police, it is unclear why Strong felt that the organization was relevant. For one thing, this wasn't a beating for jaywalking. This appears to have been a case of police putting a stop to his behavior. For another thing, Brandon Strong is a 45-year-old white man. Anyway, Strong was arrested for disorderly intoxication, resisting officers, and assaulting police. On a funny note, Strong referred to the initial JetBlue employee as “Paul Bart Mall Cop.” Unlike the film by that name, that is objectively funny. On a considerably less funny note, the man's 8-year-old son witnessed this. One can only imagine what else he has seen from this man. JetBlue looked after the boy and his mother was contacted and informed that he would be transported to Utah. Honestly, from the looks of this video, this situation might have been a lot worse had bystanders not stepped in.

Viral Clip Of 13-Year-Old Getting Bullied With Gun To His Head Sparks Outrage

TIM SLOAN/AFP/Getty Images A Furious Mother Speaks Out One viral video served as another example of when bullying goes too far. In Independence, Missouri, kids were caught on camera bullying a 13-year-old, even going as far as holding a gun to his head. The victim was identified as Darren, according to Fox 4 News , and in the clip, he’s kneeling while other kids are yelling at him to kiss their feet. They go on to use racial slurs and eventually, someone pulls out a gun and holds it to Darren’s head. You can watch the disturbing video here . Two minors and a 17-year-old have been apprehended by the Independence police in relation to the video. The 17-year-old turned himself into the police on Tuesday. Darren’s mother, Emily Bridges, was outraged by the clip. She said her son came home with bruises on his face on Saturday. She was trying to figure out the reason for the bruises when her younger son showed her the bullying video. “I was hurt,” Bridges said. “I was angry. I was crying. I was mad. I was upset because he didn’t defend himself.” To make matters worse, Emily said Darren is also on the autism spectrum. “It’s sad that other kids think it’s OK to treat people that way,” Bridges said. “I don’t want my kids to treat people that way, and I don’t allow them to.” After the gun was pulled on Darren in the video, another person threw a punch at him. Bridges says the people who attacked her son also stole money from him. She went to the police about the incident and said, at first, they didn’t seem to be too concerned. “He just really said that they’re minors. There’s not a lot that happens to them,” Bridges said. “They have to do community service. There’s not a lot. I should just keep Darren away from there and keep him at home.” When the video of Darren’s assault made rounds on social media, Bridges said she got some support from the community. She hopes the clip will serve as a lesson to other kids and teens about bullying. “I hope the other kids see this and see that those actions and those behaviors are not OK,” Bridges said.

Niecy Nash Stars In Hilarious Satire About A Hotline For Racists

Read the original here:

Source: Amanda Edwards / Getty In conjunction with the New York Times, Niecy Nash stars in a hilarious sendup of the recent rash of white people calling the police on Black folks for doing the absolute least. It is part of a brilliant op-ed piece that illustrates, with humor, how harmful and dangerous the action is to people of color. From the Times : In this satirical infomercial, the comedian and actress Niecy Nash plays the inventor of a new hotline, 1-844-WYT-FEAR. The video advertises a phone service for white people to call when they can’t cope with black people living their lives near them. The hotline is up and running, so give it a ring and spread the word. (Seriously.) The phenomenon of white people harassing African-Americans going about their day is nothing new, but with the ubiquity of smartphones and social media, everyone can now see how these injustices are played out and lead to anxiety for and material harm to people of color. And this problem is bigger than a few unreasonable white people. Racist stereotypes are baked into our society. Check out the spoof video below. — Photo: WENN

Andrew Gillum Won’t Go High If Ron DeSantis Chooses To Go Low In Their Debate

T allahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is prepared to return fire if his GOP rival for Florida governor Ron DeSantis wants to “go there” during their debate on Sunday night in Tampa, which CNN will air at 8 p.m. SEE ALSO: Andrew Gillum’s Support Extends Well Beyond The Black Community, Poll Shows “We waited 20 months or so for this moment when we’d get to compete in a contest of ideas about where we’re going to take the state of Florida,” said Gillum, who could become Florida’s first African-American governor. “Hopefully, we’ll be in for a good substantive conversation. I’ll do my best to keep it substantive. But I’ve warned you, if Mr. DeSantis wants to take it there, we’ll go there.” The CNN live stream will be available on  CNN.com  and on mobile devices through the network’s apps for iOS and Android. It can also be viewed on CNNgo . We just finished our walk through before the @CNN #FLGovDebate with @jaketapper . RT if you’ll be watching tonight at 8 PM ET. And if you’re ready to #BringItHome . pic.twitter.com/7Ged5uQUsT — Andrew Gillum (@AndrewGillum) October 21, 2018 From the opening bell in this contest, DeSantis showed his racist attitude toward Gillum. He warned Florida voters, less than 24-hours after winning the GOP nomination in August, not to “ monkey this up ” by electing Gillum. A closer look at his background revealed that DeSantis has a long racist history . Gillum wants to debate the merits of his progressive agenda for the state, which includes his proposals to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, increase starting teacher pay to $50,000, expand Medicaid and ending the state’s infamous “stand your ground” law. DeSantis, if he decides to debate the issues, is expected to counter that Gillum would be fiscally irresponsible, weak on crime, and too open to immigration as governor—basically touting Trump’s “make American great again” agenda. Expect DeSantis also to accuse Gillum of corruption. Federal investigators are looking into whether businessmen were able to influence Tallahassee development projects. Gillum has said the FBI told him he’s not the focus of its investigation. However, the mayor reportedly took expensive trips that his political enemies believe were paid for by lobbyists. Gillum has reportedly presented receipts for those trips, and he’s cooperating fully with the investigation. Meanwhile, Trump has been lobbed attacks at Gillum on DeSantis’ behalf. Ron @RonDeSantisFL DeSantis is working hard. A great Congressman and top student at Harvard & Yale, Ron will be a record setting governor for Florida. Rick Scott gave him tremendous foundations to further build on. His opponent runs one of the worst & most corrupt cities in USA! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 20, 2018 But Gillum responded to the president and DeSantis in a dignified post. . @RonDeSantisFL is relying on @realDonaldTrump to help him win this race, but he doesn’t have what I have — and that’s people like you who have my back in this race. Stacey Abrams Tied In Race For Governor Despite GOP’s Hold On Georgia

G eorgia is one of the reddest states on the political map, yet Democratic nominee for governor Stacey Abrams is running neck-and-neck against her GOP rival in the polls. SEE ALSO: Georgia Isn’t Even Trying To Hide Its Racist Voter Suppression Efforts With This Video Republican nominee Brian Kemp held the slimmest of leads among likely Georgia voters, 47-46, over Abrams, according to an Ipsos/Reuters/University of Virginia Center for Politics poll reported on Wednesday. Kemp’s 1 percentage point lead is statistically insignificant. That poll reinforced results reported on Oct. 11 from an Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Channel 2 Action News survey  that also found a 1 percent lead for Kemp. The race is stunningly close in a state that last elected a Democrat ( Roy Barnes ) for governor in 1998. If Abrams wins, she will become the nation’s first African-American woman governor. The wave of Black women candidates just got stronger with this grassroots funding milestone. #RepresentTheVote https://t.co/s58JvQWrMA pic.twitter.com/wA4csBNFc1 — NewsOne (@newsone) October 19, 2018 Republicans control the Georgia legislature. Both U.S. senators from Georgia are GOP members, and the state gave its electoral votes in 2016 to President Donald Trump . Despite all the madness coming from the White House, around 50 percent of Georgia voters still approve of the president’s job performance, the Ipsos poll showed. Yet Abrams is making headway in a historic bid for governor. Part of the reason is the demographic changes taking place across the state, according to Fox News . Metro Atlanta’s nonwhite population almost doubled from 1970 to 2015, and those minority voters largely support Democrats. At the same time, Georgia has seen a record number of people register to vote for the midterm election. No wonder Kemp, who oversees elections in Georgia as secretary of state, is trying every trick in the book to suppress minority voters from participating in November. His efforts include an attempt to  block 53,000 voter registration applications —about 70 percent of whom were African-Americans. Uncuffed: 9 Anti-Cuffing SZN Songs To Blast This Cuffing Cycle

Source: Alexei Cruglicov / Getty The weather is changing. The coats are getting heavier. The sun goes down earlier. And the desire to be cuddled up, spending time with the one you like is at an all time high.   In millennial lingo, we summarize all those feels with one term: Cuffing Season. It feels like we were just flipping burgers on the grill for Labor Day — now folks are scanning their recent dating rosters to see who’s good enough to spend the majority of their time with for the next eight months or so. One Twitter user joked , “It’s cuffing season baby. time to lose ur sense of self and merge identities w another person bc it’s cold outside.” While some folks are scrambling to decide between their top three eligible candidates — some of us are just fine staying aboard the “single and lovin’ it” train. Bustle recently did an article on why Cuffing Season is an awesome time to be single, and it brought up many valid points. Heather Ebert , a dating and relationship expert at WhatsYourPrice.com, told the site, “Cuffing season is, in part, a result of societal pressure dating. A lot of it has to do with singles not wanting to show up alone when they go home for the holidays. Some people want to be showered with gifts … others just want to cuddle up next to someone to stay warm.” She added, “It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of cuffing season and rush to settle down for the winter.  But those romances are unlikely to outlast the cold because they’re rushed and usually not met with intentions of lasting any longer. Instead of focusing on settling down for the last part of the year, spend some time on yourself and with your family.”   It’s not just the experts who say Cuffing Season is nothing but hype. Shy_Charles recently tweeted, “Not being funny but cuffing season isn’t really a thing, is it? Like yeah the nights draw in and it’s Christmas and that but you’ve got Valentine’s straight after and then summer romances after that! Every season is cuffing season, let’s just be serious.”  Let’s do something a little different this go round, and celebrate the uncoupled and uncuffed this year with seriously Anti-Cuffing Season songs. If you’re super single, feel free to add your own to the list. via GIPHY

Reality Check: Black Soccer Dad Could Have Been Arrested Or Worse For Doing Nothing Wrong

N ow that the dust has settled, a Black soccer dad reflected on how his encounter on Sunday with deputies could have ended badly for him. A white woman dubbed “golfcart Gail” on social media confronted Jones at a youth soccer match in Ponte Vedra, Florida after the dad yelled instructions to his 13-year-old son who was playing. Jones explained to her that he wasn’t screaming at the referee. But she felt intimidated and called the cops. A witness, Ginger Williams , who is white, recorded the police encounter and posted it to Facebook under the headline, “Soccer while black.” She didn’t know the father before the incident but felt that she couldn’t remain silent given the wave of similar incidents. A racist woman dubbed “golf cart Gail” called the police on a black man because he was being a father to his son and cheering him on at a soccer game. pic.twitter.com/gCQMnHNh7r — Ricky Davila (@TheRickyDavila) October 18, 2018 Jones believes he was a victim of racial profiling because the field official had previously thrown out a white soccer dad who questioned a referee, but she declined to call the cops on him. Tears rolled down Jones’ face as he recalled having a conversation with his son about the incident. “I’m working hard every day. Do everything right. Love everybody. And my son, he’s like, ‘Hey, I just don’t understand it.’ I don’t understand it. Something has to be done. What can be done? I don’t know, but it’s just too much,” Jones said. Jones believes golfcart Gail owes him an apology. However, Gail’s boss defended her actions, adding that the incident was “sensationalized.” SEE ALSO: Kierra Coles’ Mother Addresses Rumors That Boyfriend Is Involved In Her Disappearance Real Life Uncle Ruckus!
