Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty A Chicago family is mourning the loss of their loved one Kenneka Jenkins after the 19-year-old teen was found dead in the walk-in freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont. According to police, Jenkins drunkenly wandered into the freezer. She was celebrating a new job. The Chicago Tribune reports, Jenkins left home at 11:30 pm to attend a party on the ninth floor at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Friends claim they last saw her in the wee hours of the morning. Jenkin’s friends called her mother Tereasa Martin around 4:30 am to inform her they couldn’t find her at the party. According to reports, Martin immediately went to hotel security and asked if they could check the surveillance footage. Security referred Martin to the police, who insisted she wait because Jenkin’s could have been out with friends. Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty Martin filed a police report the next day leading to an extensive search, which ended when Jenkin’s body was found in the walk-in freezer around 12:24 pm. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Police reportedly told Martin, Jenkins was too drunk to hold herself up. “She was so drunk–that was his exact words–she was so drunk she couldn’t hold herself up. She was holding on to the wall,” Martin said. “I believe someone in this hotel killed my child,” she added. “The freezer door is heavy. So there’s no way. If they’re saying she’s drunk, she don’t have no strength. If she had enough strength to open that freezer door, she would have had enough strength to walk straight,” Harris said. The hotel issued this statement, We are saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with the young woman and her family during this difficult time. The hotel staff will continue to cooperate fully with local authorities. All further questions should be directed to the Rosemont Police Department. The Cook County Medical Examiner examined the body and an autopsy has been scheduled. The cause of death has yet to be determined. A union FDNY worker who was targeted is asking for an investigation into an anonymous letter she received. According to The New York Daily News, back in August a noose was discovered hanging in an ambulance at Keisha Brockington’s station. The person behind the noose was discovered to be EMT John Thornton who told upper management that it was just a practical joke for a coworker who’d just broken up with their girlfriend. The NYDN reports that Thornton then asked Brockington for advice and she told him to contact the EMS union’s vice president, but the plan backfired. Thornton was suspended and his probationary period as a new hire was extended for 6 months. Fast-forward to present day and Brockington’s telling the outlet that a racist letter popped up in her locker from an anonymous source. ““You stupid n—– better watch your back, talking all this crap,” reads the leter. “You better watch your back when you start your car up. Nothing better than a dead n—–. Trying to get innocent people fired for a funny prank,” according to the Daily News. She’s since filed a police report and alerted management. Gee, we wonder who could’ve possibly sent this woman a letter. Shouldn’t be hard for the police to piece this one together, right?
As we reported earlier this week, Scott Disick was hospitalized last month following an emotional breakdown that left friends so concerned about his welfare that they contacted authorities. Disick was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, but released less than three days later after demonstrating that he did not present a threat to himself or others. As a result of Disick’s heavy drinking and recent downward spiral, it was widely assumed that his self-destructive lifestyle had finally caught up to the 34-year-old father of three. Now, however, sources close the Lord are revealing that the situation is more complex than it initially seemed. Sources close to Scott tell Radar Online that Disick’s hospitalization was tied to his drinking , but in an indirect fashion. It seems Scott has been struggling with an unspecified health issue for the past ten years, and his frequent drunkenness led him to stop taking his medications at some point over the past few months. “Scott started using drugs and alcohol as a way to escape from his problems,” one insider tells Radar. “However, the more he continued to drink, the worse his other problem became.” The nature of that “other problem” remains a mystery, but apparently, it was the basis for Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s claim that Scott needed to be hospitalized for his own safety. Yes, it was Scott’s ex-girlfriend and his former mother in law who requested the psychiatric hold, a reminder that while he’s burned just about every conceivable ridge, the Kardashians are standing by Disick. just as they supported Lamar Odom during his recent troubles. “Kourtney and Kris had to sign off on Scott getting 5150’d on August 18 because they are the closest thing to a family that Scott has,” says the insider. Apparently, Kourtney and Kris were quick to recognize Scott’s symptoms, and they contacted the police as a precaution. Fortunately, when the time came to enter treatment, Disick reportedly went without a fight. “Kourtney and Scott know that the incident was caused by him not taking medications that he is prescribed,” says the source. “Scott was compliant with the hospital doctor’s orders and was released.” While there are reports that Disick is still drinking , his condition has reportedly stabilized. It may be a while before we find out the details of Scott’s hospitalization, but sources say Disick’s struggles will be featured on the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians . Activist and Divergent star Shailene Woodley was arrested while protesting the Dakota Pipeline ? We all remember the Dakota Pipeline protests. There was national outcry over threatening the water table of Native Americans — especially after everything that the US government has done (and continues to do) to the Native American population. There were also broader environmental concerns, as oil pipelines are notorious for leaking. Protesters were numerous and passionate, and came from people of different ages and backgrounds, from military veterans to optimistic young people to the Native Americans directly threatened by pipeline’s construction. Unlike the passive responses of police to torch-bearing Nazi protesters in Charlottesville that included a weekend of violence against racial minorities and a vehicular terrorist attack against counter-protesters, both caught on video, the police responded to the pipeline protesters with a show of force and violence. Protesters were sprayed with firehoses in freezing temperatures. Rubber bullets, which can injure and even kill, were fired into the crowd. In the end, of course, President Obama — who had likely postponed any decision in order to avoid making it an election issue, back when there was still hope in the world — fixed it. Temporarily. Doing his best impression of President John Adams’ infamous Midnight Justices , President Obama effectively brought progress to a halt on the Dakota Access Pipeline at the 11th hour. That didn’t change the way that peaceful protesters had suffered during the ordeal. And it changed nothing for Shailene Woodley, who is now sharing exactly what the experience of being arrested was like. Shailene is bravely opening up, now, about her ordeal being arrested. In an interview with Marie Claire UK , Shailene Woodley describes her traumatic experience at Morton County Jail. “I was strip-searched. Like get naked, turn over, spread your butt cheeks, bend over.” She was a peaceful protester who should not have been arrested (we’ll get to that in a moment), so this should not have happened. “They were looking for drugs in my a–.” Awful. We don’t care if it’s standard procedure. It’s awful. “When you’re in a jail cell and they shut that door, you realize no one can save you.” There are so many good police officers in the world, and many people look at police as there to help by default. (I know that I do) But it is haunting to be aware that there are police individuals and even entire groups who are willing and eager to abuse their power. “If there’s a fire and they decide not to open the door, you’ll die. You are a caged animal.” Terrifying. Shailene describes how she turned off her phone for three months due to her PTSD symptoms. Most of us are unwilling to go without our phones for three minutes (and with good reason), so you know how deeply she was impacted by her ordeal. “There was so much trauma.” Clearly. “Mine was like, ‘What do I do now?’ Kind of like a little bit of depression.” Very understandable. Different people cope in different ways. As we said, Shailene should never have been arrested in the first place. At the time, she spoke out about how heavily armed officers were waiting to arrest her as she returned to where she was staying. She believes that she was specifically targeted because she had tens of thousands of followers keeping up with her posts about the protest. (Clearly, he was the right choice, as they’re still happily together) She had also decided that Ben Higgins would be the last man she sent home. As you remember, Ben came in third, not second, and it was Nick Viall who was Kaitlyn Bristowe’s final breakup. Nick Viall ended up going on and getting engaged to Vanessa Grimaldi (though they of course have broken up). Kaitlyn doesn’t say why things ended up the way that they did, but it’s interesting that her own decisions didn’t quite match up with her own plans. When you can finally be out in the real world hand in hand.” She actually referred to Bryan as “Jerome,” which had been Rachel’s code word for her unnamed fiance. We suspect that Kaitlyn wrote this out in advance. Or maybe she just didn’t want to spoil things for those who hadn’t seen it yet. “I honestly don’t think you need advice because you seem to be on cloud 9 and you’re smart af, but here’s mine for what it’s worth.” Awwww, that is so cute. “Do not listen to outside voices.
