Russell Simmons Was Investigated For Sexual Battery In 2001 And yet another one … Now that all of the sexual skeletons are falling out of producer Brett Ratner’s closet , a few are tiptoeing out of other industry heavy hitters that associate with him. And newly public info is now revealing that Russell Simmons was also accused of sexual misconduct, alongside Ratner, over 15 years ago. According to Variety , The Beverly Hills PD investigated Brett Ratner and Russell Simmons in connection with a sexual battery claim back in 2001. The victim, still unidentified, was a then-29-year-old woman. She filed a report at the police station on November 3 at 4:45 am, claiming that both Ratner and Simmons had held her against her will at Ratner’s home and both touched her without her consent. She said the incident occurred between 2 and 3 am that same morning. Prosecutors ultimately declined to press charges in the case, due to insufficient evidence. Russell Simmons responded to the story going public, stating that the allegations simply weren’t true, but he backs up the current movement of women exposing their truths: “This is an important and critical time for the empowerment of women and men who have been harassed. I have been a public figure for all of my adult life. And when you are in that arena over decades, you can find yourself in a position where you are vulnerable and susceptible to claims that are untrue.” Yikes. Terence Crutcher is dead, but the fatal shooting that claimed his life won’t even show up as part of Betty Shelby’s record. District Judge William LaFortune ruled Wednesday to allow for the first-degree manslaughter case brought against former Oklahoma police officer Betty Shelby to be removed from her record after she asked that it be expunged, NBC BLK reports. LaFortune has ordered that all documents connected to Shelby’s case be sealed and kept with the court, where they’ll only be accessible through court order. State law also allows that the documents can be destroyed after 10 years. While government and law enforcement would still have access to the record because Shelby would likely disclose it on job applications, other agencies wil not be able to find the case in a background search according to Shelby’s defense attorney, Shannon McMurray. “This crime does not exist for employment application purposes,” McMurray said, saying that it was important for Shelby “to have that smear on her name removed from public view.” “Like any other citizen who is acquitted, Betty Jo Shelby was entitled to have her record sealed and expunged,” the attorney said. “Betty … continues to work to try and serve her community and prays for everyone’s continued healing.” Shelby petitioned for her record to be expunged after her acquittal earlier this year for the September 2016 killing of 40-year-old Terence Crutcher. You may recall, Crutcher’s SUV was stopped in the middle of the street when he was approached by Shelby, who claimed during her trial that she was scared because he appeared to be under the influence of drugs, didn’t obey her commands and looked like he was reaching into his vehicle. You probably also may recall the footage of Crutcher from the patrol car dashboard adn police helicopter that showed him with his hands in the air. Shelby went back on administrative duty with the force after being reinstated two days after her acquittal. She resigned in July, saying she felt isolated from other police officers and was later worn in as a reserve sheriff’s deputy in nearby Rogers County. If only this case didn’t fit so neatly fit the narrative of an America constantly striving to preserve the purity of white women.

A former student who flunked out of Howard Medical School is suspected of sparking a scare about an active shooter on campus earlier this week at the HBCU in Northwest Washington, D.C.,  according to  ABC 7-WJLA . RELATED:  ‘Active Shooter’ Reported On Howard University Campus Details are still sparse about the incident that sparked calls to the police about 12:04 p.m. Tuesday, but Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham told the television news station that they were not a hoax. “It seems like the initial caller called because they received information from a third party so they called in good faith,” he said.     Stephen Whetstone of Howard’s Health Sciences section told the news station that school officials were aware of an angry former medical student, whose name has not been released to the public. The man had flunked out and had made numerous threats. “He had made threats to come back and shoot up the testing center at Stokes Library,” Whetstone told the news station, “so he had made that kind of threat and I think he was pretty much targeting his former classmates.” The man, whose ex-girlfriend is a student on campus, reportedly had taken out a restraining order. He allegedly warned that if she alerted authorities about the threats that her sister and grandmother would be targeted, the report said. More than two hours after news of an active shooter was on campus, Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick said the school was “all clear.” Some students complained they had hoped for more crisis updates from school officials at the time of the incident, which raised concern after a man was arrested recently for making death threats against Howard students . It also raised concern because festivities for the school’s homecoming, which draws a large crowd, begins Oct. 20. P olice reports and witness accounts surrounding the death of Kenneka Jenkins were released on Friday, providing new details related to what transpired before her body was discovered inside a suburban Chicago hotel’s storage freezer, reports the Chicago Tribune . Several interviews—conducted by police officials—with people who were at the hotel party where Jenkins was last seen alive indicate that she was intoxicated. Witnesses say she was drinking cognac and wasn’t “acting like her usual self” that evening. They told police that she ended up walking off alone after her friends left her in a hallway so that she could search for her keys and cell phone. The report mentioned that the employees at Rosemont’s Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel checked surveillance footage and law enforcement officials intervened after Jenkins’ loved ones filed a missing persons report. After the discovery of her body, many people on social media deemed that foul play was involved in her death; prompting authorities to turn there for leads in regards to who was involved, reports the source. One witness contacted police on September 11 claiming that an acquaintance of Jenkins was involved with a gang and may have been paid $200 to have her killed. The report mentions that some individuals believed that Jenkins was “sold” for that amount of money. A friend of Jenkins told the police that the $200 overheard in a Facebook Live video taken at the hotel party referred to a parking fine for using the hotel’s lot without a ticket. Many people who watched the Facebook Live video claimed that they heard Jenkins calling for help, but the same person said that the “help me” they heard was from a Chief Keef song that was playing. The Chicago Tribune reports that the police documents show that Jenkins’ body was discovered by a hotel worker on September 10 in a walk-in freezer that was inside of a walk-in cooler. When her body was discovered she was lying face down with one of her shoes off. She also had a small incision on her foot, but there weren’t any other signs of trauma. It still remains a mystery as to why the freezer was on if the kitchen wasn’t being used. Police reports also show that Jenkins’ mother— Tereasa Martin —rejected the police’s requests to have her daughter’s phone examined as part of the investigation because she didn’t believe that there was anything suspicious on the phone, reports the news outlet. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, Jenkins’ cause of death was hypothermia with alcohol intoxication. They also discovered a drug that was used to combat migraines and epilepsy, but there were no illegal drugs found in her system. Jenkins was laid to rest on September 30. Her mother’s attorneys filed a motion on October 6 for the hotel to preserve the security camera footage from the night that Jenkins went missing. T he Amber Alert may have gone silent but the desperate search continued on Monday for 3-year-old Sherin Mathews of Richardson, Texas, NBC News Dallas-Fort Worth reports. She’s been missing since approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday when her father, Wesley Mathews , reportedly ordered her to stand next to a tree, located across an alley from their home, for not drinking her milk. Mathews told investigators that he went outside to get Sherin about 15 minutes later, but the toddler was gone. Five hours later, he contacted the police. Sherin is about 3 feet tall and weighs 22 pounds. The toddler, who was adopted two years ago from an orphanage in India, has limited verbal skills because of developmental problems. Officials said they could reissue the Amber Alert, which timed out, if there’s new information in the case. According to FBI statistics , there were 88,040 active missing person records as of December 31, 2016. Children under the age of 18 accounted for 38.3 percent, or 33,706, of the cases at the end of last year. Gun control will be the topic of the week after 20 innocent people’s lives have come to a violent end. 50 people have been reported dead and over 100 are injured after a crazed gunman opened fire at the Mandalay Bay hotel around 10 PM last night during a concert according to DailyMail . The shooter is said to be dead, but the police are actively searching for a woman named Marilou Danley who is described as 4’11” and 111 pounds. Says Las Vegas sheriff Joseph Lombardo: “We have not located her at this time and we are interested in talking to her” Marilou Danley is being sought for questioning re the investigation into the active shooter incident.
