As you'll find out in the fun story below, a couple officers in this city were called on July Fourth to investigate an unusually long and allegedly illegal Slip 'N Slide. When they arrived on the scene, however, these badge-wearing heroes didn't place anyone under arrest. Instead, they placed themselves on a tube and had some fun… 1. Let’s Set the Scene A neighbor called 911 after spotting a giant Slip ‘N Slide down the street, seemingly blocking traffic. 2. The Cops Dutifully Showed Up and Investigated But they didn’t shut down the activity… they joined in! 3. WHEEEEE! “We looked at it and determined it wasn’t really an issue,” said senior officer Carrie Lee, as a neighbor captured the unexpected play time on video and then shared it on Facebook. 4. There She Goes! “The first thing I said, I said I’m not here to break up your fun,” Lee said, explaining how she and her partner then decided to partake in the fun. 5. Image via PABLO PORCIUNCULA/AFP/Getty Images Legalization Has Cut Police Searches Significantly In Colorado And Washington The debate is still raging in certain states about whether or not to legalize marijuana , but if they need a lil’ chronic convincing, then they might wanna look at what’s going on in Colorado and Washington. NBCNews is reporting that police searches of cars during traffic stops is down 50% since legalization took place in 2012. The change in law even marginally reduced the amount that Blacks and hispanics were searched. Considering the way police have historically used marijuana as an excuse to harass minorities, like officer Jeronimo Yanez did in the Philando Castile case, legalization would certainly be a welcome change for neighborhoods that feel the anxiety of interactions with the police. In both states, marijuana legalization eliminated one of the major justifications used by police officers to stop motorists, cutting searches by more than 40 percent after legalization. In Colorado, the change occurred gradually, with searches dropping initially by 30 percent, and then flatting out to a more than 50-percent drop within a year. For the police, they can look at legalization as a way to continue to build positive relationships with the communities they patrol: “Searches where you don’t find something are really negative towards a community,” said Jack McDevitt, director of Northeastern University’s Institute on Race and Justice in Boston. “Have a police officer search your car is really like, ‘Why are they doing this to me?’ And you get more pissed off. If you’re trying to do relationship building, it’s not a good thing to do a lot of searches.” Doesn’t sound like such a bad idea…
Trey Songz’ SnapChats To Be Used In Assault Trial If you’ll recall, Tremaine was charged with assault on a Detroit police officer during a concert on back in December, where he reportedly threw a fit and tossed stage equipment around after his performance set was cut short at Joe Louis Arena. He’s charged with one count of assaulting a police officer causing injury and one count of aggravated assault. Now, the judge in the case is ruling that some of Trey’s statements regarding cops separate from the incident can be included in the case…just so the jury knows exactly where his head is at when it comes to police. Wayne County Circuit Judge Lawrence Talon ruled that some saved SnapChat videos depicting Trey making statements like “F*** the Police” were admissible into evidence by the prosecution. According to Fox 2 News Detroit , prosecutors argue: “Given the fact that the defendant is highly unsatisfied with police as shown from these videos ahead of time, saying all these vulgar comments about police, it is relevant to show that the defendant intended to do the crime that he is charged with.” Well that is some interesting reasoning…but obviously, the judge bought it. Charleena Lyles Killed By Police While Pregnant Outrage is spreading and questions are arising over the death of a 30-year-old pregnant woman who called police to her home to report a home invasion. Charleena Lyles’ reportedly called police in the early hours of Sunday morning to report an attempted burglary at her Seattle home. She was home alone with her three children at the time. Upon their arrival, police say that Lyles brandished a knife, so they opened fire on her, shooting her dead . Her two sons and daughter were all inside the home when police shot their mother down. Thankfully, all the children were unharmed during the incident. Lyles was reportedly three months pregnant with her fourth child when she was killed. Lyles, whose family reports that she had a history of mental health issues, had had a recent dust-up with local police in the weeks leading up to the incident that ultimately took her life. Her family believes that this, coupled with the factor of her race, led to the cops responding to her distress call with such hostility. As Newsweek reports: Police Detective Mark Jamieson told local media that the two officers who responded to Lyles’ call had been alerted of “hazard information” in the police database regarding a former exchange Lyles had with authorities in early June. Lyles had been previously arrested for obstruction of a public official and two counts of harassment on June 5 but had been released conditionally on June 14. During that particular altercation, Lyles was armed with a pair of scissors, according to police reports. SMH. We’ll be following this story as it develops, but we can’t see how shooting a pregnant woman down was a justified response from police — ESPECIALLY since she was the one that called for their assistance.
James T. Hodgkinson has been identified as the man who opened fire with a semiautomatic weapon on Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia. As previously reported, the incident took place around 7 a.m. on a baseball field where Republican Congressmen were taking batting and fielding practice. Five people were reportedly injured in the attack, most prominent among then Representative Steve Scalise from Louisiana . He’s been listed in stable condition and his office confirmed that Scalise was in “good spirits” upon wheeled in for surgery at a local hospital. Rand Paul was among those present during the attack and described the baseball field as a “killing field” during an interview on Morning Joe . He said the death toll would have been unimaginable if not for the swift actions of Capitol Police. Added Congressman Mo Brooks, who estimates that Hodgkinson fired at minimum 50 rounds before authorities took him out. “I see a rifle… I hear another blam… at the same time I heard Steve Scalise scream. He was shot… It sure as heck wasn’t an accident. He was going after elected officials.” It has since been confirmed that Hodgkinson asked someone close to the baseball field whether the man playing on it were Republicans or Democrats. As of 9:45 a.m. EST, Steve Scalise was in stable condition and entering surgery following a heinous attack orchestrated by James T. Hodgkinson. “We may have our differences, but we do well, in times like these, to remember that everyone who serves in our nation’s capital is here because, above all, they love our country,” President Trump said in a statement, adding: “We can all agree that we are blessed to be Americans, that our children deserve to grow up in a nation of safety and peace, and that we are strongest when we are unified and when we work together for the common good.” “Please take a moment today to cherish those you love, and always remember those who serve and keep us safe. God bless them all, God bless you, and God Bless America.” The President also confirmed that James T. Hodgkinson is dead from the injuries he sustained upon exchanging gunfire with officers. This is what we know about James T. Hodgkinson: – He was a 66-year old resident of Belleville, Illinois. – He belonged to a number of anti-Republican groups, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.” – He was a licensed home inspector from 1994 to 1997 and also from 2003 through 2016. – Two days ago, Hodgkinson shared an angry tweet about President Trump on Facebook. It reads as follows: I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an ass hole you are Truly the Biggest Ass Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office. – He has been arrested or cited for such offenses such as: Failing to obtain electrical permits, damaging a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, eluding police, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence and assorted traffic violations. Hodgkinson also volunteered for the Presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders in 2016. Upon learning this piece of information, Sanders released the following statement: “I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be: “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.” Law enforcement officials say there’s no reason to believe the assailant had ties to international terrorism. Two firearms, a rifle and a handgun, were recovered from the scene, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say. The shooting also wounded two members of a dignitary protection unit of the U.S. Capitol Police,. along with two members of the Capitol Police. All are in good condition.

Brendan Hester, 23 of Ashtabula, Ohio, remains in critical condition after an officer shot him twice last Friday. According to CleveScene , someone broke into Brendan’s house and he was holding the intruder at gunpoint while his brother’s girlfriend called the police. After authorities reported to the scene, however, an unidentified officer shot him and according to family members who were witnesses, NO orders were given for Brendan to drop his gun. “Brendan is not a criminal, not did he deserve to be shot,” said Brendan’s cousin Alex Spangler to the publication. “Brendan is a victim, and his life matters. … We are devastated, but we are committed to seeing the police department held accountable for their actions. We deserve an apology. We deserve a full and thorough investigation by BCI.” The local police originally reported that they ordered Hester to drop his weapon. Colleen Campbelll was caught on video displaying bizarre behavior outside of a Philadelphia comedy club called Helium. From the video, the 28-year-old seems to have had some trouble with someone inside and was asked to step out. That’s when she started to go off on an officer outside, spewing curse words and daring him to do something. It then looks like she attempted to spit on someone’s face. Thats when the officer had enough and placed her under arrest. According to phillymag.com , Campbell assaulted the officer once again, after the camera cut off. After 3 warnings and other customers were complaining she was asked to leave. I was really worried about my job. She gave me something similar to a Benadryl. Then later I woke up and had a panic attack. I never thought to get any test done. PM: Why do you think you were drugged? CC: Everything was foggy. I do remember coming in to Helium. I do remember getting into an altercation there, but I don’t remember what it was about. I only had two drinks at Helium. PM: On Facebook, you said you’d had one drink. Were you drinking prior to the two drinks at Helium? CC: Yes, I was working at Devil’s Den. I bartend there. And then we went to Cantina for a margarita, and I had two shots. But that was an hour before. Then we went to Helium, waited in line, got our drinks. I don’t even remember going out to the lobby. I do remember getting into the cop car. PM: Is there anything you’d like to say to the cop and the other people you acted out against in that video? CC: I feel awful. That’s not me or how I speak or how I talk or how I was raised. I had to delete all my social media, because I’m getting threats. PM: Given that you had at least five drinks, do you think it’s possible that your body was just reacting to the alcohol in your bloodstream? I really don’t know. I don’t know what to think. As you’ve surely heard by now, the UK was hit by yet another terrorist attack last night. Three men men drove a van onto London Bridge, hitting pedestrians before they jumped out and began stabbing people. Seven people were killed and 48 were injured. The terrorists were shot and killed by police when they arrived on the scene. It sounds absolutely horrifying, and it’s especially scary considering the Manchester attack that happened less than two weeks ago. On May 22nd, a suicide bomber entered an Ariana Grande concert , setting off a nail bomb that killed 22 people. Countless others were injured. Ariana was understandably devastated by what happened, but she still managed to pull together, along with her team, to plan a benefit concert for the victims and their families. The concert will take place back in Manchester, and Ariana will perform, along with Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Coldplay, Niall Horan, Usher, Robbie Williams, Little Mix, the Black Eyed Peas, and Pharrell Williams. Anyone who attended her original Manchester concert can get in for free, and all proceeds will go to a fund set up for the people who were injured and the families of the people who were killed. The concert was scheduled for tonight … but will it go on in light of last night’s attack in London? According to Ariana’s manager, Scooter Braun, absolutely it will.
