CBS’s Dickerson Questions ‘Claim’ That California Judge in Prop 8 Ruling Openly Gay

During a discussion of California’s Proposition 8 being overturned on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, fill-in host John Dickerson questioned Family Research Council President Tony Perkins’s assertion that the federal judge who made the ruling was openly gay: “You mention this claim that he’s openly homosexual. I’m not sure if that’s, in fact, the case.” Perkins replied by citing his source on Judge Vaughn Walker’s sexual orientation: “Well, that, according to The San Francisco Chronicle, that he is openly homosexual, one of two federal judges.” Thursday’s Good Morning America on ABC reported that fact as well, even while NBC’s Today and the CBS Early Show failed to mention it. Dickerson followed his doubt of Perkins by arguing: “…whether [Walker] is or isn’t, what basis – what bearing does that have on the case?” Perkins responded: “…had this guy been a – say, an evangelical preacher in his past, there would have been cries for him to step down from this case. So I do think it has a bearing on the case.” Dickerson countered: “You think it’s made his ruling skewed?”   An examination of the kind of language used in Walker’s opinion demonstrates a clear bias against supporters of Proposition 8: “The evidence at trial regarding the campaign to pass Proposition 8 uncloaks the most likely explanation for its passage: a desire to advance the belief that opposite-sex couples are morally superior to same-sex couples. The campaign relied heavily on negative stereotypes about gays and lesbians…” As attorney Ed Whelan explained in a February 7 post for National Review Online : “Walker’s entire course of conduct has only one sensible explanation: that Walker is hellbent to use the case to advance the cause of same-sex marriage. Given his manifest inability to be impartial, Walker should have recused himself from the beginning, and he remains obligated to do so now.” While Dickerson was quick to question a completely accurate statement from Perkins, he allowed a glaringly misstatement from left-wing attorney David Boies to go unchallenged. Boies, who along with attorney Ted Olsen lead the lawsuit against Proposition 8, ranted against Perkins and others opposed to the judge’s ruling: “Well, it’s easy to sit around and debate and throw around opinions, appeal to people’s fear and prejudice….it’s very easy for the people who want to deprive gay and lesbian citizens of the right to vote to make all sorts of statements and campaign literature…” While it seems clear that Boies simply misspoke and meant to say “right to marry” instead of “right to vote,” Dickerson made no effort to correct the record for viewers. Boies concluded his rant by sanctimoniously proclaiming: “We put fear and prejudice on trial, and fear and prejudice lost.” Perkins began to respond: “That is absolutely not true-” But Dickerson just moved on to the next question, pressing Perkins: “The judge in this case said that the state has to find some kind of harm created by same-sex marriage. There has to be empirical evidence. Mr. Boies says, and the judge says, there was no evidence on that case. So what harm – give us some evidence, in terms of the harm that would be created by allowing same-sex marriages?” As NewsBusters’ Noel Sheppard earlier reported , the segment that followed, with CBS legal analyst Jan Crawford and Washington Post writer Dan Balz, was remarkably balanced on the issue. Crawford noted that it would be an “enormous stretch” for the U.S. Supreme Court to agree with Walker’s ruling. Here is a full transcript of the August 8 segment with Boies and Perkins: 10:38AM JOHN DICKERSON: Joining us now to discuss the California ruling on same-sex marriage: from San Francisco, David Boies, one of the lead attorneys for the plaintiffs; and Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council, he is in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Boies, I want to start with you. After the judge ruled in your favor, he put a stay on marriages going forward. I want to know, with so much legal fighting ahead on this issue, why should marriages be reinstated immediately? DAVID BOIES [CHAIRMAN, BOIES, SCHILLER & FLEXNER]: I think the issue is not whether they ought to be reinstated immediately, but whether you ought to have marriage equality. I think that courts can differ in terms of whether this goes into effect immediately or after an appeal. I think the critical issue here is that what you have is a district court finding after a full trial, everybody had an opportunity to be heard, an opinion that demonstrates that there is simply no basis whatsoever to continue discrimination against gay and lesbian citizens who want to marry. DICKERSON: Tony Perkins, you said this ruling, this decision left you speechless. What’s your reaction going to be now? TONY PERKINS [PRESIDENT, FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL]: Well, this is not without political parallel. I mean, you go back to the 1970s and abortion was nowhere near the political issue that it is today when the court interjected itself in 1973 to this issue. And this issue is not going to go away. I think what you have is one judge who thinks he knows – and a district level judge, and an openly homosexual judge at that, who says he knows better than not only 7 million voters in the state of California, but voters in 30 states across the nation that have passed marriage amendments. This is far from over. DICKERSON: You mention this claim that he’s openly homosexual. I’m not sure if that’s, in fact, the case. But whether he is or isn’t, what basis – what bearing does that have on the case? PERKINS: Well, that, according to The San Francisco Chronicle, that he is openly homosexual, one of two federal judges. And I think, you know, had this guy been a – say, an evangelical preacher in his past, there would have been cries for him to step down from this case. So I do think it has a bearing on the case. But this is not without precedent- DICKERSON: But you think it’s made his – you think it’s made his ruling skewed? PERKINS: This is not without precedent. Well, I mean, you look at – he ignored a lot of the social science in – in his opinion. But in Nebraska, in 2005, there was a similar ruling by another federal district level judge. It was overturned in the Eighth Circuit unanimously. So there is certainly, not only based upon the social empirical data that’s out there, but on the legal basis, this is a flawed decision. And as I said, it’s far from over. DICKERSON: David Boies, the one thing you mentioned, that the judge spent a great deal of time on the facts of the case here. What’s your response to Mr. Perkins? BOIES: Well, it’s easy to sit around and debate and throw around opinions, appeal to people’s fear and prejudice, cite studies that either don’t exist or don’t say what you say they do. In a court of law, you’ve got to come in and you’ve got to support those opinions. You’ve got to stand up under oath in cross-examination. And what we saw at trial is that it’s very easy for the people who want to deprive gay and lesbian citizens of the right to vote to make all sorts of statements and campaign literature, or in debates, where they can’t be cross-examined, but when they come into court and they have to support those opinions and they have to defend those opinions under oath and cross-examination, those opinions just melt away. And that’s what happened here. There simply wasn’t any evidence. There weren’t any of those studies. There weren’t any empirical studies. That’s just made up. That’s junk science. And it’s easy to say that on television. But a witness stand is a lonely place to lie. When you come into court, you can’t do that. And that’s what we proved. We put fear and prejudice on trial, and fear and prejudice lost. DICKERSON: Mr. Perkins, I want to- PERKINS: -that is absolutely- DICKERSON: Well, let me ask you- PERKINS: That is absolutely not true- DICKERSON: The judge in this case said that the state has to find some kind of harm created by same-sex marriage. There has to be empirical evidence. Mr. Boies says, and the judge says, there was no evidence on that case. So what harm – give us some evidence, in terms of the harm that would be created by allowing same-sex marriages? PERKINS: Well, a lot of the discussion was about the issue of children and how children are impacted by this. This is so relatively new that there is not conclusive evidence to suggest that children who grow up with two moms or two dads fare as well as children who grow up with a mom and a dad. Now, we do have an abundance of evidence over the last 40 years, from the social sciences, that show us that public policy that has devalued marriage, through laws such as no-fault divorce, has truly impacted children and impacted the institution of marriage. And the judge, in his ruling, actually over – just ignored all of that and said that there is no evidence that any of the policy that’s been adopted on no-fault divorce and other liberal-leaning policies has impacted marriage. And I think anybody with a half a brain can see that the policies that have been adopted in the last 40 years have impacted marriage and, as a result, have impacted the well-being of children. DICKERSON: Mr. Boies, let me ask you a question about where this case goes from here. There is a view among a lot of legal scholars- BOIES: Let me – let me just respond. DICKERSON: Quickly, if you could? BOIES: Let me just respond to that, okay? Okay, very quickly. Look it, the judge did deal with it. And he pointed out, which is obvious, is that no-fault divorce doesn’t have anything to do with the issue that’s here. The empirical studies that do exist – and they’re based on what’s happened in Canada and Sweden and Spain and other countries and other states where you are able to have marriage equality – demonstrate that there is no harm. There are studies going back for 20 years that demonstrate this. The problem here is that, unlike a court, people don’t stick to the facts. DICKERSON: OK, let me ask you, on the question of the Supreme Court, where this may end up one day, there is a view that the court doesn’t like to get too far out in front of where the law is now. Isn’t this a big leap for the Supreme Court to side with you, Mr. Boies, in this case? BOIES: It really isn’t. Remember, unlike abortion, the court is not creating a new legal right. This is a right that has been well-recognized for 100 years, in terms of the right of individuals to marry. And all that’s at issue here is, can the state of California take away that right depending on the sex of your intended partner? And that issue depends exactly on what you said before. Is there a rational basis for that distinction? Can you prove that it harms heterosexual marriage, children? Can you prove it harms anybody? Why do you make these people suffer if it doesn’t help anybody? And what we proved at trial is that there simply isn’t any basis, no evidence at all, to indicate that this has any harm to anybody. And, indeed, all of the evidence is to the contrary. That it makes those relationships more stable. Even the defendant’s own witnesses admitted that there was no evidence of harm to heterosexual marriage or to children as a result of gay and lesbian marriage. Even the defendant’s own experts admitted that there was great harm to homosexual couples and the children they’re raising by depriving them of the stability and love of marriage. DICKERSON: Mr. Perkins, I want to ask you about the Republican Party. Usually – often in cases like this, you hear Republican politicians jump to decry these kinds of rulings. It’s been pretty muted so far. Why do you think that is? PERKINS: Well, there’ll be a ruling – there’ll be a resolution introduced in Congress this coming week when the House is pulled back in by Nancy Pelosi. But I want to address, you know, David knows better than this, I mean, he is a constitutional lawyer. He knows that the findings of the court over the last hundred years have dealt with traditional marriage, marriage between a man and a woman. And the whole issue of civil rights that is drawn into this, you know, the court in Brown versus Board of Education and the civil rights cases in the ’50s and ’60s, were based upon constitutional amendments on the issue of racial equality which were adopted by the states. That hasn’t happened on same-sex marriage. This is an activist decision by a district-level court who is interjecting his view over the view of not only millions of Americans who have voted on this issue, but literally the history of the human race. So this is far from over. And we hope that sanity will reign when it does make its way to the United States Supreme Court. DICKERSON: Okay. Tony Perkins, thank you so much. David Boies, thank you for being with us. BOIES: Thank you.

National Guard Troops Deployed to Border Will Not Be Used to Stop, Detain Illegals

The 1,200 National Guard troops that are being deployed incrementally to the southwest border “will not be doing direct law enforcement,” said U.S. National Guard Bureau Director of Communications Jack Harrison when asked if the forces would be interdicting drugs and undocumented immigrants. “The two mission sets are criminal analysts and enter-identification team,” Harrison told CNSNews.com. “I can tell you that guardsmen will not be doing direct law enforcement on the southwest border.” In other words, the National Guardsmen will not be used to actually stop and detain illegal aliens trying to sneak across the border into the United States. Harrison made his comments on Friday during a “bloggers roundtable” sponsored by the Department of Defense (DOD). When CNSNews.com asked if the National Guard assessed whether 1,200 troops were adequate to accomplish the mission assigned by the Department of Homeland Security and DOD, Harrison said, “DHS and DOD determined the number necessary for this request and I don’t have anything further on that part of your question.” “The mission in a nutshell is a two-fold support mission in criminal analysis and enter-identification team on the southwest border,” he said. On July 19, Gen. Craig McKinley, commander of the National Guard, indicated http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/07/19/border.troops/index.html that although the forces will be armed, they will be limited by rules of engagement that allow them to shoot only in self-defense. “The rules for the use of force will be well-coordinated, and they’re the same as our counternarcotics teams that are there now — for self-preservation only, self-defense only,” he said. Gen. McKinley added, “The rules for the use of force will be well-coordinated, and they’re the same as our counternarcotics teams that are there now — for self-preservation only, self-defense only.” Harrison further said that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the DOD were responsible for determining the number of troops to be deployed incrementally along the approximately 2,000-mile southwest border. “This deployment involves up to 1,200 National Guardsmen for up to 365 days or 1 year, and it is scaled based on what DHS requested of DOD and is essentially to allow the hiring and training of approximately 1,000 more agents that is part of a larger plan at DHS for the southwest border,” said Harrison. Rather than acting as gap-fillers, the guardsmen will be “augmenting existing capabilities that CBP [Customs and Border Protection] and ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] have for up to one year, and DHS has this larger plan through which part of it is to hire a thousand more agents over the next year,” said Harrison. Harrison declined to say when each state involved — California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico – would be deploying their National Guard force to the border. “What I can tell you is that during the next 60 to 90 days we anticipate that those states will get these people on the mission and they’ll be doing the support that DHS has requested of them,” he said. Officials have stated that Arizona will get most of the troops, about 524 soldiers. Texas will get 250, California 224, and New Mexico 72. Harrison explained that the National Guard has been working with DHS for over two decades through its counter-narcotics program. (AP Photo/Rodrigo Abd) “Currently, we have more than 300 national guardsman supporting the counter-narcotics program down there, and that’s been going on at different levels for nearly 20 years,” said Harrison. “More recently a deployment to the southwest border, which had been named Operation Jump Start, began in the summer of 2006, which brought on at the height of that support, 6,000 guardsmen and lasted for two years,” he added. “When this mission started we had between 300 and 350 already there in that counter-drug mission,” he said, “and since this particular deployment started we brought on nearly 370 across all four states.” According to Harrison, there are approximately 55,000 National Guard soldiers assigned to missions overseas. That’s approximately 45 times more than the 1,200 troops being sent to the southwest border. The National Guard is made up of 460,000 men and women, citizen soldiers, and airmen, said Harrison. If you exclude the Guards involved in overseas missions and in domestic operations, “you still have within the National Guard some 390-or-so-thousand citizen soldiers and airmen here in this country able to do what their governors or the president needs them to do,” said Harrison. Media reports suggested that the National Guard missed its alleged deadline of deploying the 1,200 troops by Aug. 1. However, Harrison said that the objective has always been to incrementally deploy those troops. “We are following the plan as it was agreed to by DHS and DOD and the Guard is not missing any deadline whatsoever,” said Harrison. Arizona Must Be Wondering: ‘Why Have Laws?’

Anytime La Raza or any of the other Latino immigration groups start to define our illegal problem, they inform us that the aliens streaming across our southern border are just hardworking folks looking for a better life for them and their families. Well I’ll submit to you that it isn’t mom, dad and grandma climbing those high border fences with the razor wire at the top. It takes an able-bodied, athletic person to scale those heights. The people who scream the loudest against an Arizona type law are those who either have a vested interest in keeping the price of basic labor down, those seeking political gain or those interested in increasing the Latino population of America. I personally have nothing against any law-abiding citizen seeking a better life coming to this country, but I am against anybody who makes their first act on American soil to break our laws. Out of the millions of illegals who have crossed our border how many are members of violent gangs, how many could have terrorist ties, how many are carrying dangerous diseases and how many are ferrying the drugs that are destroying our culture. The truth of the matter is that we just don’t know and that’s just insanity. This is the only civilized nation in the world that allows foreigners to just walk across its borders unimpeded. What is wrong, in my humble opinion, boils down to this: This is not a partisan political problem because presidents of both parties have dropped the ball on this one. There are evidently longer strings being pulled from higher secret places that can control the policies of two political parties which are diametrically opposed on so many other issues It is not fair to the rest of the world’s immigrants who wait patiently and legally to become citizens of the U.S.A. . This unimpeded influx of unskilled, uneducated, non-English speaking workers will severely water down the labor pool and seriously increase the national debt as greedy, vote seeking politicians grant social entitlements to people who are not even citizens of this country. While the majority of Hispanics who come to this country just want to be good citizens, assimilate and live in peace there is a militant fringe that is not too far from serious violence at the present and could easily be incited to destructive civil unrest. When that happens it will farther harm Anglo-Hispanic relations. What can we do about it? First of all, whether you’re Hispanic, Jewish, Irish, Arabic or a mongrel like me we have to be Americans first. We have to have a burning desire to protect our country from chaos and lawlessness. It is after all everybody’s country and the shape we leave it in for our children is up to us. The first thing that has to be done is to seal the border. Nobody comes across except through a legal port of entry where his or her identification, nationality and general state of health can be determined. If it takes fences, National Guard troops, electronics or a massive increase in border patrol agents it has to be done, without sealing the border all other efforts are futile and meaningless. And then begin the long and laborious task of identification. And I’m not talking about rounding up people like a cattle gathering but it can be done in a firm but humane way. But the only way to accomplish this is to let our law enforcement officers do their jobs by determining the nationality of those who are stopped for other offences just as the Arizona law suggests. The Arizona law is not an attempt to increase racial profiling, it is just common sense, and I dare say if it involved the Haitians or Algerians there would be no public outcry. But the resistance has more to do with politics than compassion. By implementing this kind of policy we can immediately deport the criminals and otherwise undesirables who have come across our border illegally and we can work out a path to legal citizenship for the others, giving them a place in line but not in front of those who have gone thru of citizenship ought the long process ahead of them. We should require all employers to determine the nationality of any person they hire and work out a comprehensive guest worker program by issuing temporary visa and after that severely punish employers with undocumented workers. America was discovered and founded by immigrants. All our ancestors came here from some other country. Immigration has sustained and strengthened America for over two hundred years, but legal, controlled immigration not wholesale invasion by anybody who wants to walk across the border. There is a major catastrophe on our horizon and the people who are supposed to do something about it absolutely refuse. They’re long on talk but horribly short on action. So, as usual, it falls to we the people.

Amanpour Elevates British Journalist Who Sees ‘Culture of Hate’ in U.S., Time to Divide Up Our ‘Pie’

Christiane Amanpour elevated a liberal British journalist, with little U.S. television experience, to the This Week roundtable where she presumed the government must run the economy and distribute the economic pie while she took pot shots at how the efforts to control illegal immigration proves America’s descent into a “culture of hate.” Gillian Tett , U.S. Managing Editor of the London-based Financial Times newspaper, began by insisting, that to respond to stagnant employment numbers: “The big question now is can the economy keep growing if the government doesn’t keep pumping in money?” Applying a European economic model, Tett fretted “that so much of America in the last few decades has been about trying to focus on growing the pie, not worrying about how to divide it up” as Americans didn’t “worry about social equity and things like that.” But, showing little faith that Obamanomics will work, she ruminated, “if we are entering a period when the pie is stagnant, the question that’s going to be very political is how do you divide that pie up?” In her final remark on unemployment, she warned “you really are starting to see the beginnings of a culture of hate, of finger-pointing, of scape-goating.” Minutes later, however, in a discussion of the proposal to modify the 14th amendment to end automatic citizenship through birth, Tett assumed those dark days have already arrived: “It’s quick fix soundbite politics in this culture of hate and this, you know, scape-goating that’s going on right now.” Others on Amanpour’s panel: Politico’s John Harris, New Yorker’s George Packer and former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson. Last week, on reviewing Amanpour’s debut: “ Amanpour Slums to Take on U.S. Politics, Flummoxed Pelosi’s Victories Aren’t Better Appreciated ” Comments from Gillian Tett during the roundtable on the August 8 This Week with Christiane Amanpour: > I think it’s important to realize that it illustrates is that the President, right now, is at an important juncture point. For the last year, we’ve had some growth in the American economy, but much of that’s been due to government aid, government spending, or what economists call an inventory rebuild – basically, companies and shops ran down their stocks back in late 2008, they rebuilt them, but that process is kind of finished. And the big question now is can the economy keep growing if the government doesn’t keep pumping in money? > The problem in a way, in a sense the social contract in America., the American dream is starting to fragment because for years America’s prided itself on having an unemployment rate that was a lot lower than Europe’s, but it didn’t have a social safety net like Europe. Now, in a sense, it doesn’t have a social safety net, and yet, shockingly, the unemployment rate is approaching European levels, in some cases actually exceeding it. And that’s a real challenge, not just in an economic sense, but in a political sense too about what is the American dream? > What’s fascinating is that so much of America in the last few decades has been about trying to focus on growing the pie, not worrying about how to divide it up because if you keep growing the pie, through innovation, through private sector enterprise, then you don’t have to worry about social equity and things like that. But if we are entering a period when the pie is stagnant, the question that’s going to be very political is how do you divide that pie up? > And poisonous as well. You really are starting to see the beginnings of a culture of hate, of finger-pointing, of scape-goating. And that could fuel the way for some very nasty, very negative politics going forward.   > [on amending 14th amendment] It’s quick fix soundbite politics in this culture of hate and this, you know, scape-goating that’s going on right now.

Rachel Maddow Edits ‘Factor’ Video to Make Bill O’Reilly Look Racist

Rachel Maddow on Friday highly-edited a video from the previous evening’s “O’Reilly Factor” in order to make the Fox News host look racist. For some background, Bill O’Reilly wrote a syndicated column Friday in which he chastized Maddow and David Letterman for “without a shred of evidence” claiming on CBS’s “Late Show” Tuesday that FNC intentionally runs stories about “scary black people” in order to frighten white folks into voting for conservatives. Maddow responded by calling this “bullpucky,” and presented video “evidence” from “Factor” programs to prove that this indeed is what Fox does. Unfortunately, in the most damning clip, Maddow’s minions conveniently edited out that O’Reilly was referring to a recent Gallup poll about how blacks and whites have differing views of President Obama. Ironically, this came moments after Maddow scolded O’Reilly for airing the edited version of former USDA official Shirley Sherrod on his July 19 program (videos follow with transcripts and commentary): RACHEL MADDOW, HOST: This time, the case against me is in his nationally syndicated column which I`m sure is read by millions and millions and millions and millions and millions of people. The headline is, quote, “Only far-left loons scared of Fox News.” Guess who the loon is? Yes. Talking about me on David Letterman`s show this week, Mr. O`Reilly says, quote, “Speaking with far-left MSNBC news commentator, Rachel Maddow on his program, Dave listened as she put forth the preposterous theory that wants to frighten white Americans by reporting negatively about black Americans.” “In the past, paranoid, dishonest rants like that would have been dismissed as fringe-speak. But not anymore. Without a shred of evidence, a guest on Letterman`s “Late Show,” which by the way, gets trounced in the ratings by Fox News Channel every night, defines an entire news organization as a racist enterprise and Letterman goes along.” Mr. O`Reilly`s repeated insistence that must be right because Fox has high ratings is a many-splendored thing particularly because this week – if you believe Mr. O`Reilly, this week means we`re all wrong and only sharksploitation(ph) is right. But there is something else going on here that isn`t just an ad populum fallacy about ratings or an ad hominem collateral swipe at the lovely creature that is the loon. It is something stupid, something stupid enough that it doesn`t even get dressed up in Latin phrasing. It`s him saying that there`s no evidence to back up my claim that Fox News consistently runs stories it says are news, but that nobody else really covers, stories that are ginned-up, exaggerated, caricatured, in some cases, just flat-out made-up scare stories designed to make white people feel afraid of black people, designed to make it seem like black people, or in some cases, immigrants are threatening white people and taking what is rightfully theirs. You may not like that diagnosis of what Fox has been up to, but to say there`s no evidence, not a shred of evidence, as he said, that`s bullpucky. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) O`REILLY: Speaking at an NAACP event in March, Department of Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod was caught on tape saying something very disturbing. Seems a white farmer in Georgia had requested government assistance from Ms. Sherrod. Wow. Well, that is simply unacceptable and Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately. (END VIDEO CLIP) MADDOW: Of course, the Shirley Sherrod story ended up being exposed as total bullpucky, manufactured by nifty video editing. Mr. O`Reilly had to apologize for that statement. But it`s not like the Shirley Sherrod story stands alone. Readers are encouraged to remember her comment “exposed as total bullpucky, manufactured by nifty video editing.” Also, if this was an example of Fox trying to scare white people, why did O’Reilly apologize the next day? Not every member of the news media that broadcast the original Sherrod video clip issued an on air apology like O’Reilly, but I digress: (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) O`REILLY: The collapse of ACORN – that is the subject of this evening`s “Talking Points Memo.” Here`s the latest scandal. You`re not going to believe it. Because federal authorities have not done much policing of ACORN, two private citizens, James O`Keefe and Hannah Giles, launch an undercover sting investigation themselves. The two pose as a prostitute and a pimp and asked a number of ACORN officials to help them get housing for a prostitution enterprise. The latest sting was in California, where an ACORN employee engaged the young woman posing as a prostitute. ACORN is a tax-exempt organization that should immediately lose that status. And Attorney General Holder should begin an intense investigation. (END VIDEO CLIP) MADDOW: Of course, the ACORN story ended up being exposed as total bullpucky, too, also manufactured by nifty video editing. Remember after the California attorney general looked into the full tapes and then arrested all those ACORN folks for those crimes that Bill O`Reilly showed them committing on tape? Yes, you don`t remember that? Me, neither, because it never happened. Bullpucky again. But still, very scary. Readers are encouraged to once again remember Maddow’s phrase here “total bullpucky, too, also manufactured by nifty video editing.” Secondly, that the far-left Jerry Brown chose not to prosecute ACORN employees by no means invalidates the corruption that was exposed at this organization or vindicates it. A Democrat-controlled Congress and a Democrat President have still not lifted the government ban on ACORN funding. Beyond this, the notion that O’Reilly reporting this matter was racially motivated is in itself racist. But Maddow and her ilk seem to miss this irony when they point such fingers at others: (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) O`REILLY: A guy like Van Jones who is a friend of the president, and he comes in and he`s a hardcore Marxist. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He`s not a hardcore Marxist. O`REILLY: He is. He admits it. All I keep hearing is from people like Eugene Robinson who traffics in racism every time you turn around. Once again, the idea that reporting on Van Jones was to scare white people is pathetic. Are all reports concerning black people involved in wrong-doing racist? As such, this was another tremendously weak point by Maddow in no way proving O’Reilly was trying to scare white people. But here’s the best part: O’REILLY: White Americans don`t like the huge expansion of the federal government. They also oppose the big spending increases that the president has imposed. It`s simple. White Americans fear government control. They don`t want the feds telling them what to do and they don`t want a bankrupt nation. For decades, African-Americans have supported a bigger federal government so it can impose social justice. The vast majority of blacks want money spent to level the playing field, to redistribute income from the white establishment to their precincts. (END VIDEO CLIP) MADDOW: Black people want white people`s money. They want to redistribute income from the white establishment to their precincts. But remember, Mr. O`Reilly says there is not a shred of evidence that Fox News hypes stories about scary black people taking white people`s stuff. I am not interested in playing cable news insult ping pong with Mr. O`Reilly. But as much as he keeps insisting that I`m no one worth arguing with, that I`m an uber-leftist – he called me that in his column, and a loon twice now. And a slightly larger percentage of one percent of the population watches his show than the proportion of one percent of the population that watches my show, for all he complains about how unimportant I am, my criticism scares white people on purpose to politically benefit conservatives, damn the consequences for the country, that criticism appears to have struck a nerve over at Fox. It appears to have gotten under Mr. O`Reilly`s skin. Good. Well, not so fast, Rach, for why didn’t you provide the full context of that last report by O’Reilly? Here is the unedited “Talking Points Memo” from Thursday. Notice just how much different this really is from the highly-edited version Maddow dishonestly showed her viewers: O’REILLY: Hi, I’m Bill O’Reilly. Thanks for watching us tonight. Black and white Americans differ over President Obama. That is the subject of this evening’s “Talking Points Memo”. A new Gallup poll says 88 percent of African-Americans continue to support President Obama, but just 38 percent of white Americans feel the president is doing a good job. That is a 50 point differential in the president’s job approval rating, which is stunning. So what is going on? Let’s take the white situation first. According to the polls, most white Americans don’t like the huge expansion of the federal government. They also oppose the big spending increases that the president has imposed. It’s simple. White Americans fear government control. They don’t want the Feds telling them what to do. And they don’t want a bankrupt nation. That attitude was on display in Missouri this week when 71 percent of the voters approved a state statute blocking the federal government from forcing them to buy health insurance. 71 percent said no to that. Since Obamacare is the centerpiece of the president’s domestic strategy so far, you can see he’s in some trouble. But black America has a totally different view. For decades, African- Americans have supported a bigger federal government, so it can impose social justice. A vast majority of blacks want money spent to level the playing field, to redistribute income from the white establishment to their precincts, and to provide better education and health care at government expense. So the African-American voter generally loves what President Obama is doing. As for Hispanic-Americans, 54 percent now support Mr. Obama but that is down nine points since April. The social justice component is there as well. There’s no question that there are now two Americas. The minority community continues to believe that society is not completely fair to them. And they want a huge government apparatus to change that. And while the white community may sympathize with the minority situation, they apparently believe that more harm than good is being done to the country with the cost of social justice programs. My own belief is that President Obama is well intentioned, but if the wild spending continues, this country will be gravely damaged. As far as social justice is concerned, strict oversight on fair rules, but not the imposition of expensive entitlements is the answer. The USA is the strongest country on earth because of self reliance and the industry of honest, hard working people, who don’t want to be told how to live. Independence and self-reliance is what has made this country great, powerful and generous. And that’s the Memo. As such, O’Reilly was commenting about a Gallup survey just released Tuesday with the title, “Blacks and Whites Continue to Differ Sharply on Obama.” By the end of his “Memo,” he was even crediting Obama with being “well intentioned.” Sound “scary” to you? As for Gallup, here’s what it reported: President Obama’s job approval rating averaged 88% among blacks and 38% among whites in July, a 50-percentage-point difference that has been consistent in recent months but is much larger than in the initial months of the Obama presidency. Obama’s job approval ratings among blacks, whites, and Hispanics in July are all at their lowest levels to date, although the overwhelming majority of blacks still approve. Maybe Maddow should call the Gallup folks racist, too. Regardless, Maddow and her minions completely removed this context from the video they edited thereby dramatically altering what O’Reilly said.  Isn’t that just as bad as what the anonymous person that sent the excerpted Sherrod video to Andrew Breitbart did? Maybe more importantly, isn’t this actually worse than what Fox and every other news outlet did with the Sherrod video, for none of them were involved in the editing. In Maddow’s case, her own staff edited out major portions of O’Reilly’s opening remarks on Thursday completely changing the meaning of his words. This MSNBC host should certainly not be pointing fingers at others for bullpucky manufactured by nifty video editing when she and her staff are doing the very same thing.  With this in mind, maybe Maddow on Monday should play the entire video for her audience and apologize to O’Reilly. Readers are advised to not hold their breath.

Roseanne Barr: Nazi Leaders Hitler, Goebbels and Himmler Were Jewish

Roseanne Barr on Friday said leaders of the Nazi Party such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, and Heinrich Himmler were all Jewish. In the comedienne’s latest anti-Semitic rant , she also claimed that many Palestinians are Jewish and were “driven out of their homes by a cheney-ized [sic] Judeo Christian Bushite America.” Further demonstrating her serious need for counseling, Barr said Nazi scientists “successfully created a mutant human–a hybrid of Jewish mentality and German Resolve, the Zionist.” Readers are cautioned before proceeding as this is seriously disturbed stuff (h/t NB reader Consigliere5):  Many of the Palestinian people are jewish and became christian after Israel stole their land and homes. They were dark skinned, and so driven out of their homes by a cheney-ized Judeo Christian Bushite America. the jewish american socialists are sending a flotilla from america to break the blockade of the anti-semitic zionists in Gaza! Zionists are German. weird hybrid. In order to defeat euro socialism, Hitler leveraged the rich jewish industrialists against the working class jews. The Russian accounts say that the last trains to Auschwitz were first class, as that is all the leverage left to the jewish oligarchs within the ‘reich’, (other than the jews like Hitler, Goebbels, and Himmler at the top). The scientists of the Reich successfully created a mutant human–a hybrid of Jewish mentality and German Resolve, the Zionist– He who broke the back of the labor movements and socialism,— which is the goal of National Socialism—(different word for the American Southern Confederacy-the one Anne Coulter loves).   Seriously, this woman needs psychiatric attention and fast.  Exit question: Does Barr really believe this nonsense, or does she go off on one of these absurd rants every now and then to draw attention to herself?

Newsday’s Ellis Henican Compares Wikileaks to the Drudge Report

Newsday columnist and Fox News contributor Ellis Henican on Saturday compared the website known as Wikileaks to the popular news aggregator the Drudge Report. Discussing the recent leaks by this atrocious outlet on “Fox News Watch,” Henican made the case that “most of us who work in the media will tell you honestly we live off of leaks. Give me more leaks,” he said. Conservative political commentator S. E. Cupp took issue with this saying, “It seems as though the sole purpose of Wikileaks is to discredit and dismantle our war efforts and at any cost.” She continued, “And I’m sorry, that’s not journalism. They’re just a collection bin for, for you know, documents.”  Henican responded, “Kind of like the Drudge Report, right?” (transcript follows with video pending, file photo):   ELLIS HENICAN, NEWSDAY: Can I stand up for leaks for one second? I mean, clearly, you can have damaging leaks in military situations, and these Jim may be causing some damage. But you know, it’s the military’s job to keep their secrets, and most of us who work in the media will tell you honestly we live off of leaks. Give me more leaks.  S. E. CUPP: Yeah, but Ellis, Ellis, look, if Wikileaks existed for whistle-blowers in the tobacco industry… HENICAN: Great. CUPP: …or even D.C. lobbyists…  HENICAN: Great. CUPP: Super. But it seems as though the sole purpose of Wikileaks is to discredit and dismantle our war efforts and at any cost. And I’m sorry, that’s not journalism. They’re just a collection bin for, for you know, documents. HENICAN: Kind of like the Drudge Report, right?
