Paterson Quits Campaign, Will Remain Governor: ‘I Am Being Realistic About Politics’ [Breaking]

David Paterson press conference time! Watch it here. He is going to stop campaigning, but keep being governor. Update: It went by so quickly! Some quotes from the governor are attached. Paterson is talking about all the wonderful things he has done as a legislator and accidental governor. “We have eradicated the Rockefeller drug laws,” he says, which is not quite true. But he did do more about this than any of his predecessors! Finally, the announcement: “Today I am announcing that I am ending my campaign for Governor of the State of New York .” Because he can’t run for office and manage the state’s finances at the same time, not because of any of that other stuff. AND: “I have never abused my office. Not now, not ever.” AND: “Let me make this clear: there are 308 days left in my term and I will serve every one of them” The governor took a few questions, but not many. He looks forward to a full investigation of the thing about abusing his office, with the state police and the phone calls. Disappointingly non-crazy!

Sarah Palin responds to questions about Teabaggers whilst standing in a Wasilla Winter Wonderland and giving the ghost of Ronald Reagan a handjob.

To paraphrase Reagan a little “There both EASY candidates, and SIMPLE candidates, and I stand before you as both”. Nice to know that if you are NOT a Teabagger you don’t believe in freedom. So I guess freedom from joining a particular movement is not an AMERICAN freedom. Good to know. I should probably write that down. Can I borrow your hand Sarah? “Take over the Republican party Tea Partiers!” Because you know nothing says “democracy” like a hostile take over of a political organization. I do like one of her often repeated statements however “Hey bottom line, we win, you lose.” Perhaps somebody needs to remind her that in the last election Obama won, and she and her and her creepy old uncle lost. And the reason they lost is because when the Republican were in power they damn near destroyed the very foundation of our country. And THAT by the way is what the Teabaggers are really pissed off about, which they could see if they could stop focusing for a minute on the fact that President Obama is a black guy. Does anybody else think that Plain looks a little high strung and agitated? Gee I wonder what could possibly be bothering her? By the way there is really not that much of a delay between the question and the answer when being interviewed in Alaska from the lower forty eight. However if Palin has not had time to write the answers on her hands it takes her an extra few seconds to decide which memorized conservative talking point to vomit forth. “Less taxes!” “Freedom!” “Smaller government!” And if she can’t come up with anything she just licks her botox deadened lips and whispers “Reagan”. That is political porn to the viewers of Fox News.

UPDATED: The New York Times David Paterson Story Is Out… Or is it?

So, this is it ? This is THE New York Times David Paterson ‘bombshell’? The whole thing? There’s not a second part that’s good? Jesus, New York Times , why didn’t you say it was going to be so boring. Wed. Update: : Let’s do the time warp again! A knowledgeable source tells us this is not in fact the Paterson bombshell, and that the real story is substantially more… substantial. Our tipster says: I don’t believe this is the Paterson story. The reporters actually did uncover some dirt on him, though nothing of the sexual sort. Mostly stuff about his heavy drinking and loveless marriage. So: Still no drug-fueled orgies… but perhaps fodder for a more substantial scandal than the fact that Paterson has a sketchy confidant? Our tipster says that “there’s an actual profile of Paterson that could run as soon as tomorrow.” We await with bated breath… As for today’s Times article: If you were hoping for the big Paterson-annihilating bombshell that we, in part, led you to expect , prepare to be sorely disappointed. The Times story isn’t even about Paterson, per se: It’s about his driver and closest confidant, David W. Johnson. Granted, Johnson, who started as Paterson’s intern in 1999, has a sketchy past: The Times reports that as a teenager he was twice arrested for felony drug charges. Also, he beats women—Which the Times points out is sort of a paradox, given Paterson’s crusade against domestic violence. The article details a slew of “incidents” including: In 2001, when Mr. Paterson was a state senator, Mr. Johnson, according to a person who was present, punched a girlfriend outside the senator’s Harlem office. But there were no sexy Paterson revelations. No drug-fueled orgies spilling into the halls of the Governor’s mansion. Tell all your friends: Paterson’s closest adviser is sort of a thug. The great phantom David Paterson scandal of 2010 ends with a whimper. (Until we read a tweet about another one.)

An Evening with 13 Year-old Fashion Blogging Sensation Tavi Gevinson

The thing about Tavi Gevinson is: She’s only 13 but she is already a famous and controversial fashion blogger. Last night, Tavi swooped into a Fashion Week party and we were able to talk to her for 1.5 minutes. Tavi started her blog, Style Rookie , back in March of 2008. People took notice because, woah, here is a very young girl from Chicago blogging about something young girls normally don’t blog about and doing it pretty well! There were many articles written about her . She became a muse for designers Rodarte ( “Tavi Gevinson defines Rodarte for Target” ), a columnist for Harpers Bazaar and a Pop Magazine cover girl. She annoyed fashion elite by wearing an enormous pink bow to a Dior show and was subjected to an inevitable backlash at the hands of industry heavies. People whispered that a “team” wrote her posts, that she was fashion’s JT Leroy. Some people whispered this New York magazine. Now, Tavi is synonymous with “fashion blogger” and everything wonderful or terrible one might choose to see in the species. It’s all about access: If you’re bullish on bloggers, Tavi’s weird dress and untrammeled prose prove that only the roaming satellite, the lone enthusiast, can rescue an industry where identically uncomfortable shoes are always sitting atop egg shells, so concerned are its members about being cut off from the goods. But detractors argue that Tavi’s own access derives from her uncritical fawning over certain designers. They see young fashion bloggers like Tavi and Bryanboy as little more than copy writers who work for free samples, eagerly shilling the products fed to them by older, savvier industry folk. Are Tavi and her ilk tools of the establishment or true iconoclasts? Short-lived gimmicks or a revolutionary vanguard? All the anxieties of an access-obsessed industry are reflected, then magnified in Tavi’s tiny, spectacularly swathed frame. After all, if Tavi is the next big thing, you better make nice ASAP. Though this might be totally over-thinking it. To the crowd at China One in the East Village, where last night Brooklyn design duo I Love Factory held a Fashion Week party for a new line of fancy hats, Tavi was a real gut-level, “holy shit!” superstar. Tavi’s entrance—mom and entourage in tow—was heralded by a tectonic shift as partygoers scrambled out of Tavi’s way. Tavi passed through the part in the crowd, back to where models showed off the hats. The two syllables of her name filled the room. A semi-circle of fans snapped pictures with their iPhones. The bolder ones approached her, then the party photographer Bronques waved them away so he could get a clear shot. Positively knee-high, with dyed gray hair and chunky, clear-framed glasses, Tavi looked like a fortune-teller with a malfunctioning pituitary gland. She looked over the product, spoke with some well-wishers then headed for the door. Tavi had just been at the Alexander Wang show, where New York spotted her . She said she felt “kind of mixed” about it when I cornered her at the door; she would sort out her thoughts while writing her post. I asked what she thought was driving Tavimania and her answer can only be described as precocious: “A lot of people tell me I remind them of a younger version of themselves. Other people have their own reasons, I don’t know.” I asked her about the politics of fashion, which she’s complained about on her blog. She said she takes fashion industry machinations with a grain of salt: “I wish the fashion industry could laugh at itself more.” Also, haters, Tavi doesn’t read your stuff. “I spend all day with myself—I don’t need to read about myself too.” Then Bronques brought over party promoter Alexis Mincollo to have his picture taken with Tavi. Mincollo said he had never heard of Tavi before tonight, but Bronques had explained who she was, and he was into it. Tavi gamely posed with Mincollo. Then, maybe seven minutes after she first arrived, Tavi was gone.

Ke$ha Gets Into Battle Of The Sexes With 3Oh!3 For ‘Blah Blah Blah’ Video

‘Dudes are way more annoying,’ says Ke$ha, explaining her bratty song’s message. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha on the set of her video “Blah Blah Blah” Photo: RCA Ke$ha makes no apologies for her brash personality, which she’s managed to channel into catchy, raucous party songs . And with her first single “Tik Tok” still pumping loudly from stereos, it’s time for Ke$ha to assault radio airwaves with her new single, “Blah Blah Blah,” off her chart-topping debut album, Animal. The up-and-comer recently shot a video for the song along with the boys of 3Oh!3 , who appear on the bratty club anthem. “The whole concept of the video was a bunch of douche-y guys macking on me as usual, and me making them eat their toupees or other various items,” she told MTV News at the shoot. “At one point, I get to be strapped to this harness and bouncing around everywhere, and it was really cool.” In the song, Ke$ha ridicules a would-be suitor for “ta-ta-talking that bla-bla-bla” when all she really wants is to have sex with him. Ke$ha explained that the dance tune originated from a discussion she had in the studio on the politics of female-male relationships. “The song came about when the people that wrote it — me, Benny Blanco, Neon Hitch and [3Oh!3’s] Sean Foreman — all got in a room, and they were talking about how chicks talk too much,” she said. “And me and Neon were like, ‘No, no, no, guys talk too much,’ ” she continued. “So, we had this war of who were more obnoxious, chicks or dudes. And the song kind of came around from that conversation. I think I make a pretty fair point both in this video and in the song, that dudes are way more annoying.” Related Artists Ke$ha

Gov. David Paterson Spokeswoman Denies NYT Has a Resignation-Worthy Bombshell

The Business Insider posted an unconfirmed report that the New York Times ‘ David Paterson story is so big that the New York governor will resign tomorrow . But Paterson’s office is pushing back, telling Gawker “the governor is not resigning.” We asked Paterson’s deputy communications director Marissa Shoenstein for a response and she emailed the following: “There is absolutely zero truth to these rumors. The governor is not resigning.” Reached by phone, Shorenstein also claimed that the story isn’t coming out tomorrow or “any time soon” and called it a “profile” that’s going to be running in the Metro section of the New York Times . She says more than one Times writers will be bylined on the piece and that her office has been in contact with them and the governor is cooperating with the piece. Finally, when asked whether or not anything that’s going to be written in the forthcoming Times piece on Gov. Paterson could be described as scandalous, a “bombshell,” or anything that might find itself in the public’s general interest,” Shorenstein gave a flat-out deinal: “No.” This, of course, is all spin from the governor. The Times will publish when it’s good and ready. And they’ll have the final word. Which leaves us still wondering: What the hell is in this thing? Earlier, some commenters gave us some ideas. Runner Up: “He’s not really blind .” “Perhaps they’ve discovered that he has no idea how to govern .” ” I call banking kickbacks . That, or he wrote a cheque for a hooker like Jerry Springer.” “He first became Lieutenant Governor when Eliot Spitzer hired him for sex? ” “I’m guessing that he’s a masturbator .” ” It’s a hot li’l female , the Cuomo team is workin’ overtime, and he will not resign.” “He’s a hardcore Warcraft player who got a little too into erotic role playing as a female blood elf mage. Expect some pretty disgusting screenshots from Goldshire .” ” He’s a third-party in the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter sex tape.” “Basically it’s that he is actually a Belgian-born white dude named Tim Kimberly and he was once a paid assassin for Opus Dei .” “Unless the “bombshell” Paterson news involves either of the two philias — pedophilia, necrophilia — or active drug-dealing to under-age children, serial murder, cannibalism, or dog fighting, I’m not going to give a shit .” And finally, our winner: ” He’s really Fred Armisen .” Wow. Just…wow. More as we get it, but in the mean time, the Paterson camp is firm in their stance of noting that there’s nothing any of us should care about in this thing.
