The Real Housewives of Orange County Recap: Whines by Wives

Last week the RHOC left off with Vicki speechless after learning that Briana eloped . This week, Vicki has Briana in tears, and they don’t appear to be tears of joy. Find out what happened in THG’s +/- review! Vicki and Tamra meet up at a lingerie store for bra fittings. Vicki’s bra fitter thinks she’s a FF. Tamra’s a 32D, which she feels is impossible given recent surgical de-enhancements. Tamra suggests that Vicki get Briana some bridal lingerie for her honeymoon. Minus 30 for the gross factor of your mother buying you lingerie. Ew. EW EW EW. Vicki thinks Briana’s eloping is disrespectful and wrong and is upset that it robbed her of all of the wedding planning “fun.” Minus 10 for being selfish, Vicki. This isn’t about you. I’ll give you a Plus 5 for realizing this isn’t about you and knowing you have to suck it up. But ONLY 5 because I don’t trust you to follow through with this. Slade’s getting ready to go for a ride on his bicycle and Gretchen’s getting ready for lunch with Tamra. Gretchen just wants everyone to get along. Slade just wants to get married to Gretchen. He meets up with Gretchen’s dad on his ride and asks for her hand in marriage. Plus 10 for being the gentleman Ryan wasn’t when he eloped with Briana. Slade doesn’t know if Gretchen’s ready, but he at least wants to let her know that those are his plans. Pops says he sees a wedding off in the distance and says that Slade needs to clean up his image before he gets the seal of approval. Then they ride off together into the sunset. Gretchen and Tamra meet for lunch and cocktails and Tamra tells Gretchen she’s thinking of starting her own business. She wants to open a fitness studio and she’s telling Gretchen first (after Eddie, of course). Something tells me this won’t make Vicki happy. Then Tamra asks Gretchen what’s up with Gretchen and Slade. Gretchen says she supports Slade in everything he does, but the past three years have been tough. Slade has debt issues and if Gretchen marries him, his issues become her issues. She’s financially sound and doesn’t want to ruin that. Plus 10 . And Gretchen doesn’t think she wants to get married because of unresolved issues from her previous marriage. Something tells me she and Slade are going to have an interesting conversation. Vicki’s getting ready for a party. She and Tamra are launching a wine company. They’ve decided the party should be a formal party because people in Orange County never get dressed up. Ever. (Uh, The O.C. told me differently, Vicki.) And she’s going to make the announcement that Briana’s married. Because this is a big deal that everyone is going to freak out over, right? Minus 10 , Vicki. This announcement is more about you than it is about anyone else, including Briana and Ryan. From the one-on-one, it seems like Briana has issues with the fact that Vicki’s divorce isn’t final but she’s dating Brooks already. Hmmm, pot? Kettle? Vicki’s planning to introduce Brooks to her kids at the party when she knows that Briana’s not ready to meet Brooks. I can almost feel the fireworks already, can’t you? The flashbacks from previous seasons show just how delusional Vicki is regarding Briana and their relationship. Tamra and her son arrive at the launch party for the wine club first with Vicki and Brooks close behind. Tamra thinks Vicki’s headed for a nervous breakdown. Gretchen and Slade and Heather and Terry arrive and the only wife we’re missing is Alexis. Plus 5 for that! Tamra has an impromptu consultation with Dr. Terry about having her tattooed wedding ring removed as a surprise for Eddie. Brooks cracks the lamest joke in the history of jokes when he introduces himself to Michael, Vicki’s son, as Brooks and Dunn. Minus 20 . Brooks tells Michael that the two of them have a lot in common and thanks him for supporting Vicki in the past year. He tries to chat to Michael about Briana’s new marriage. Awkward.

Cher Goes Off on Mitt Romney, "Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters"

Cher has never been one to mince words. Still, it was a little surprising to see just her pummel presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney out of the blue via Twitter Tuesday, only to delete a couple of the more inflammatory Tweets hours later. What did the iconic pop star and Oscar winner say? “If ROMNEY gets elected I don’t know if I can breathe same air as Him & his Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters,” she Tweeted. That remark by the 65-year-old attracted a variety of responses , many shocked, and some more profane and negative than others. Cher replied to one hater: “Nice Mouth ! U learn that at Church, Gun Show,or how to press your Klan costume Klass?” (That, and the nasty tweet directed at her, are still up.) To another user who called her an “atten.whore,” Cher fired back, “Actually I’m Not & if u Dislike Me SO.. Get Off My Site it Cant B Fun 4 U !” Another Cher tweet that disappeared, however, was this: “TOO HARSH? That’s me Holding BACK! They care nothing about the POOR The OLD The SICK The HUNGRY CHILDREN & People striving 4 a Better LIFE!” A number of fans chimed in to support the Oscar winner, as well, some apologizing for those who were giving her such a hard time and some inquiring why she was re-tweeting some of the nastiest messages sent to her. Her message later in the day: “Hi Lovelies!hope U R having GREAT Day or Nite! Sorry I Let The Dogs Out, But I Should Have Remembered 1 must watch what They Say These Days!” When asked if she was saddened by people’s crass comments about her political views, she replied, “No Sweetheart Just ‘STRONG ENOUGH’!!” After a tough primary fight, Romney is expected to clinch the GOP nomination for president and face off with Barack Obama in the 2012 election. Somehow we’re fairly convinced which way Cher is voting.

Sofia Vergara Splits with Nick Loeb

Sofia Vergara and her breasts are single once again. The Modern Family beauty has split with her boyfriend of two years, Nick Loeb, according to The New York Post, which cites sources who say the couple argued all weekend before pulling the plug on its relationship. Vergara proceeded to attend Monday’s Met Ball in New York City alone. “Sofia was confiding in friends at the ball that she and Nick have split ,” an insider tells the newspaper. “They have been fighting a lot recently and have been on the brink of splitting many times. It is not yet clear if they are over for good, but they are done as a couple for now.” Loeb is the grandson of one of the Lehman brothers and served as a partner in his family’s firm until it went under as part of the financial crisis. John Edwards: In Love With Rielle Hunter?

John Edwards has never spoken publicly about his feelings for Rielle Hunter , but thanks to his federal corruption trial, plenty of other people are. His former speechwriter, Wendy Button, testified Tuesday. She said Edwards admitted he loved Hunter, though the relationship was “complicated.” Edwards spoke about Hunter when answering mock questions as he practiced what he would say when admitting he fathered Rielle’s love child. “Do you love Rielle?” Button testified she asked Edwards. With Button playing the role of a reporter, the two-time presidential hopeful said, “Yes, it’s complicated.” This was July 2009, according to Button. “Do you still see her?” Button also asked. “‘Yes, she’s the mother of my child,'” Button says John replied. “Is the affair still going on?” she asked. “You’re not entitled to all the details,” Edwards answered . Those questions are ones Edwards, 58, could be asked again if he takes the stand at his trial. The former U.S. Senator is charged with covering up the affair and love child with the help of illegal campaign contributions from wealthy donors. The packed courtroom was riveted as Button took the stand about her conversations with Edwards in July of 2009, when she offered to help him draft a statement admitting he fathered Hunter’s daughter, Frances Quinn, now 4. Last month, Edwards’ former aide Andrew Young said when the politician learned Hunter was pregnant, he reacted by saying “She’s a ‘ crazy slut .'” Young testified that Edwards said, “There’s a one-in-three chance [the child] was his.” John, who was married to the terminally ill Elizabeth Edwards at the time, vehemently denied, but later confirmed his paternity of the child. His adult daughter, Cate Edwards , was so upset by some of the revelations at his trial that she walked out in tears at one point last week.

Genevieve Cook, Ex-Girlfriend of President Obama, Reveals His "Sexual Warmth" in New Book

Genevieve Cook, an ex-girlfriend of President Obama, shares some intimate details about their relationship in a new book about the Commander-in-Chief. Barack Obama: The Story , by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Maraniss, is the most thorough account of the President’s life not written by Obama. Vanity Fair published excerpts Wednesday. While The Story contains no sordid, shocking tales of impropriety, it portrays Obama as extremely ambitious. Obama’s autobiography Dreams From My Father , while generally true, makes him look less calculating and motivated by his own career, in other words. Barack Obama: The Story also goes into much greater detail about his early life, including romantic relationships, such as that with Genevieve Cook. Using Obama’s writings and ex-girlfriends’ diaries, Maraniss paints a picture of Obama as an intense, conflicted and sometimes brooding intellectual. It was that intelligence that drew Cook to Obama after a chance meeting at that East Village apartment gathering, according to Maraniss’ book. The future President, who in 1983 was a recent graduate of Columbia University, began chatting up the assistant teacher at a party that Christmas. Obama apparently earned Cook’s endorsement, as they went on a date just days later and she spent that night at his tiny Manhattan apartment. While sitting on an orange beanbag chair, the two bonded over the time each spent in Indonesia as youths, then exchanged phone numbers. “I think maybe he cooked me dinner,” she wrote. “Then we went and talked in his bedroom. And then I spent the night. It all felt very inevitable.” Cook remembers that Barack Obama also used to spend Sundays in his room wearing a sarong, drinking coffee and solving crossword puzzles. She described the room as a “a mixture of smells that so strongly speak of his presence, his liveliness, his habits … running sweat, Brut spray deodorant, smoking, eating raisins, sleeping, breathing.” And while Cook wrote about Obama’s “sexual warmth,” she felt he sometimes kept her at arm’s length … and when she said “I love you,” he often responded “thank you” rather than “I love you, too.” Barack first met his future wife, First Lady Michelle Obama , in 1989. Mitt Romney. Eminem. We never thought those two people would be used in the same THG headline, but one epic music video parody has united them at last. This amazing mash-up of Mitt Romney quotes and Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” takes dead aim at the presidential candidate’s flip-flopping reputation. President Barack Obama and Mitt’s all-but-dispatched GOP rival, Newt Gingrich, also make cameos in “The Real Mitt Romney,” which is a must-see … Will The Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up (Ft. Eminem) Oxford student Hugh Atkin created the video, combining the Republican candidate’s soundbites and the hit song from the rapper’s 2001 Marshall Mathers LP . Obama begins the video in much the same way as Em begins his track: “May I have your attention please. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up?” “Y’all act like you haven’t seen a Mormon before… I’m not concerned with the poor,” Mitt says in spliced-together clips from various campaign speeches. As for that catchy chorus, Romney raps, “I’m Mitt Romney and I’m the real Romney … All the other Mitt Romneys are just masturbating.” Obviously. North Korea Threatens to Reduce Seoul to "Ashes" in 3-4 Minutes

The rogue state of North Korea is making headlines again for issuing threats, but this time of a more specific nature than their typical over-the-top, vague rhetoric. North Korea’s military interrupted state TV Monday with a special report, vowing to reduce areas of neighboring South Korea “to ashes” in less than four minutes. The threat comes amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula, the recent ascension of Kim Jong Un to the dictatorship and the North’s latest failed missile test . North Korea Issues New, Specific Threats According to the AP, the scary statement from North Korea was unusual in promising something soon and in describing specific locations and periods of time. The North Korean military threatened to “reduce all the rat-like groups and the bases for provocations to ashes in three or four minutes … (or) in much shorter time, by unprecedented peculiar means and methods of our own style.” Yeah. Real normal. South Korean officials responded, urging North Korea to end the threats. “We urge North Korea to immediately stop this practice,” Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Hyung-suk said, according to the Associated Press. The South Korean leader added, “We express deep concern that the North’s threats and accusations have worsened inter-Korean ties and heightened tensions.” The April 13 launch of what the United States called a “disguised ballistic missile test” disintegrated just minutes after its launch, humiliating North Korea. South Korean officials say new satellite images show that North Korea has been digging a tunnel in what appears to be preparation for a third atomic test. For months the North has castigated South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and the conservative administration for insulting their leadership and criticizing a new cruise, nuclear-armed missile capable of striking anywhere in the south. Meanwhile, in a meeting Sunday with a North Korean delegation in Beijing, China’s senior official on foreign policy praised the leadership shown by Kim Jong Un. How far he pushes the envelope remains to be seen, but he’s clearly put the world on notice that like his father Kim Jong Il, he’s not afraid of posturing.

Andrew Young Testifies Against John Edwards

Former aide Andrew Young, the star witness in the trial of former presidential candidate John Edwards, began his testimony against his former boss Monday. Edwards is accused of using hundreds of thousands of dollars from 101-year-old Rachel “Bunny” Mellon and Fred Baron to conceal his affair with Rielle Hunter . Young, testifying as the first witness Monday, said Mellon was an enthusiastic supporter who apologized for not being able to give more than $1 million. “She said she was close personal friends with Senators John and Bobby Kennedy and felt like Edwards was the best combination of them,” Young testified. Prosecutors say Edwards broke federal law by accepting about $725,000 from Mellon and more than $200,000 from Fred Baron, a now-deceased Texas lawyer. The money was used to pay for Rielle Hunter’s living and medical expenses, travel and accommodations to quash the scandal while he sought the presidency. Edwards is accused of concealing the money from the public and the Federal Election Commission, which polices political contributions, in the 2008 campaign. Federal prosecutors say he filed false and misleading campaign disclosure reports to do this, though Edwards denies any (legal) wrongdoing in the case. The defense argues the money he received from Mellon and Baron was for personal reasons – to protect Edwards’ wife, Elizabeth, who was dying of cancer. Basically, he says he did it to hide his cheating from his family, and that the donors would have given the money regardless of these rare circumstances. Of course, by concealing it from his family, he also hid it from the public, and made a serious run at the White House in the process. Needless to say, the John Edwards trial represents a murky legal gray area. Young, who is married, initially claimed he was the father of Hunter’s child. He went on to become the author of The Politician: An Insider’s Account of John Edwards’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down . In the book, he accuses Edwards of using money from his rich benefactors to maintain his relationship with Hunter, breaking the law in the process. Edwards admitted to his affair with Hunter in 2008, after his presidential ambitions foundered. In 2010, he admitted he was the father of Hunter’s daughter.

Ted Nugent: Off the Legal Hook for Bashing Obama

Ted Nugent will not face any criminal charges for his rant earlier this week against Barack Obama . Threatening the President is against the law, of course, and the musician was forced to meet with the Secret Service after relaying a metaphor to attendees at a NRA convention that concluded with: “If the coyote’s in your living room, pissing on your couch, it’s not the coyote’s fault. It’s your fault for not shooting him.” Ted Nugent Speaks to Glenn Beck “The Secret Service interview of Ted Nugent has been completed,” spokesman Brian Leary told Yahoo News. “The issue has been resolved. The Secret Service does not anticipate any further action.” Well, not that kind of action at least… if you know what we mean ! Appearing prior to the meeting on Glenn Beck’s radio show (above video), Nugent said: “The bottom line is I’ve never threatened anybody’s life in my life. I don’t threaten, I don’t waste breath threatening. I just conduct myself as a dedicated ‘We the people’ activist because I’ve saluted too many flag-draped coffins to not appreciate where the freedom comes from.”
