Chris Matthews Highlighted Faulty Daily Kos/Research 2000 Poll on Hardball

With the news that Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas is suing the polling group Research 2000 for providing “bunk” results that his Web site published, the question has to be asked: Will those figures in the media who’ve advanced Daily Kos poll results, like MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews, let their viewers know of the suspect data? Back on the February 2, 2010 edition of Hardball, Matthews as part of his Sideshow segment, alerted viewers to the results of “a wild new poll of Republicans” that showed 58 percent of them didn’t believe or weren’t sure that Barack Obama was born in the U.S. and 64 percent of GOPers agreed or weren’t sure that the President was a “racist who hates white people.” Matthews granted the poll so much credence he cited Research 2000’s discovery that 68 percent of its Republican respondents wanted Obama impeached as that day’s “Big Number.” The following is from the “Sideshow” segment aired during the February 2 edition of Hardball: CHRIS MATTHEWS: Next, a wild new poll of Republicans came out. It’s conducted by Research 2000 and sponsored by the progressive blog Daily Kos. Catch these figures. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans polled say no or not sure when asked if President Obama was born in the U.S. Whoa! Seventy-nine percent say yes or no or not sure, rather, to the question of whether he’s a socialist. Sixty-four percent, about two-thirds, say yes or not sure on if the President’s a racist who hates white people. And 57 percent of Republicans say yes or not sure on whether he wants the terrorists to win. And here’s the wildest number of them all, tonight’s Hardball “Big Number.” How many Republicans in this poll think President Obama should be impeached? Sixty-eight percent said yes or not sure to the question of whether Barack Obama should be impeached now. I guess, if you think the guy’s an illegal immigrant, you figure he’s got to be impeached. Sixty-eight percent of Republicans say either yes or not sure on impeachment on this president. Tonight’s hard-to-fathom “Big Number.”

Rasmussen Finds Most ‘Angry’ with Liberal, Pro-Obama Media

A new Rasmussen Reports survey finds most Americans (51%) say the average reporter is more liberal than they are, and nearly as many (48%) think the media are “are trying to help”  President Obama pass his left-wing agenda. Perhaps as a result, the poll finds an astonishing two-thirds of the public (66%) say they are angry with the media, “including 33% who are very angry” with the press. Most Americans seem to have a low view of journalists’ integrity and professionalism. Rasmussen discovered that “68% say most reporters when covering a political campaign try to help the candidate they want to win,” vs. 23% who think most reporters “try to offer unbiased coverage.” At the same time, “54% of voters think most reporters would hide any information they uncovered that might hurt a candidate they wanted to win, up seven points from November 2008.” Rasmussen also discovered that Republicans and independents are most offended by the media, with a plurality of Democrats (43%) who “say their coverage is unbiased.” This new poll is consistent with many others from the past decade showing rising discontent with the press and a growing awareness of the media’s liberal bias. The Media Research Center has posted a collection of relevant polls — along with polls of journalists showing how their views differ from the general public — on our “ Media Bias 101 ” page. Here’s an excerpt from the June 15 report by Rasmussen, based on their poll of 1,000 likely voters conducted on Sunday and Monday (June 13-14). Sixty-six percent (66%) of U.S. voters describe themselves as at least somewhat angry at the media, including 33% who are very angry…. Now 48% of voters think most reporters when they write or talk about President Obama are trying to help the president pass his agenda. Only 18% think most reporters are trying to block the president from passing his agenda. Twenty-seven percent (27%) say they are simply interested in reporting the news in an unbiased manner…. Fifty-one percent (51%) say the average reporter is more liberal than they are, consistent with earlier findings on the question. Fifteen percent (15%) say the average reporter is more conservative than they are, while 27% say the average reporter shares roughly the same ideological views that they have…. Seventy-six percent (76%) of GOP voters and 56% of unaffiliateds think most reporters are trying to help Obama pass his agenda. Among Democrats, 33% say they are trying to block the president’s agenda, while 43% say their coverage is unbiased. Just 15% of Democrats say most reporters are trying to help the president. Crystal Bowersox, Andrew Garcia Are Early ‘American Idol’ Favorites In Poll

New AOL poll finds that fans are digging Ellen DeGeneres but miss Paula Abdul. By Gil Kaufman Crystal Bowersox Photo: FOX Crystal Bowersox and Andrew Garcia are the early frontrunners on this season of “American Idol” according to a new AOL Television poll, which also revealed that, so far, fans are loving new judge Ellen DeGeneres, but still missing their old pal Paula Abdul. Tuesday night’s (February 23) two-hour performance show by the top 12 girls will feature dreadlocked mom Bowersox, 24, while the boys’ sing-off on Wednesday will spotlight fellow young parent, 24-year-old Garcia. In the poll, Garcia led all vote-getters with 26.2 percent, barely edging out Bowersox, who was second in the weekend tally at 25.2 percent. The poll ran on the site from February 18-22 and got 57,682 votes. Another parent, new dad Michael Lynche, came in a solid third at 15.5 percent, but the personal trainer whose wife gave birth while he was toiling in Hollywood week was also voted the most overhyped contestant, with 36.8 percent. He was followed in that category by Bowersox (12.3 percent), Didi Benami (9.7 percent), Katie Stevens (12.5 percent) and Garcia (7.2 percent). Others making the early favorite list include pinup cowboy Casey James (15 percent), Stevens (12.5 percent) and Lilly Scott (5.6 percent). Clearly the more intense focus on contestants’ compelling backstories has resonated with fans, who overwhelmingly (78.3 percent) said the show’s mini biographies give singers an unfair advantage in voting. But some of those with tearjerking stories didn’t make it past Hollywood. Poll respondents ranked the contestants they thought should have made the top 24, putting three-time washout Angela Martin at the top (44 percent), followed by teary crooner Thaddeus Johnson (21.7 percent), Shelby Dressel (15.1 percent), Tori Kelly (8.7 percent) and Jermaine Purifoy (5.7 percent). Ashley Rodriguez was voted this season’s most likely dark horse at 28.5 percent, followed by quirky Siobhan Magnus (21 percent), last-minute finalist Tim Urban (20.1 percent), Lacey Brown (15.8 percent) and John Park (14.5 percent). And while 58 percent said that so far they love DeGeneres, 46.3 percent said they miss former judge Paula Abdul “a ton” and that the show is not the same without her. The bad news for Paula? Almost as many (41.3 percent) said don’t miss her at all, and 12.4 percent said they never noticed she left. Who’s your season nine favorite so far? Do you agree with this poll’s results? Talk about it in the comments below! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Who Would You Rather: Tiger Woods Mistress Style!

It seems crazy to think that Tiger Woods, the world’s most recognizable athlete, was linked to not one, not two, but three mistress in the past week alone. Front and center from the dawn of the now-infamous Tiger scandal was Rachel Uchitel (middle), who first denied sleeping with Woods before admitting it. The two reportedly engaged in crazed, feverish, Ambien-fueled sex .
