Katy Perry Turns Down $20 Million American Idol Offer After hinting earlier this year that she may have been considering joining the infamous American Idol judges panel , Katy Perry has decided to give up the gwap and pass on the gig. Not many people are in the position to pass on a multimillion dollar, one-year job offer, but it looks like Katy Perry doesn’t have that problem. The “Wide Awake” singer was offered $20 million to be an “American Idol” judge, but turned it down, TMZ reports. According to sources, Perry, whose professional and personal life have been in the spotlight recently, was courted by “Idol” producers for the gig for quite some time. She was reportedly first offered $18 million for a one-year contract, with that number jumping up to $20 million. Still, she’s not biting. “She was being hotly pursued,” a source also told Us Weekly about Perry’s “Idol” offer. “They really wanted her.” However, it’s not all that surprising that Perry is passing on the gig. She talked about joining “Idol” with The Hollywood Reporter in July, saying, “People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved, and it’s not right for me yet.” Mariah signed for $18 milli….bet she won’t be excited to hear that they were about to drop $20 mil on Katy and her lady lumps ! That’s one thugged out dessert lover. Tennessee Man Punches McDonald’s Employee Over Hot Fudge Sundae A Tennessee man who lost his cool after a McDonald’s employee handed him a sundae with the hot fudge on the bottom was convicted of assault and could spend up to a year behind bars. The incident in question occurred in February 2010, when Knoxville resident James Davis Wilson ordered a sundae, expecting the hot fudge to be poured on top. “The food appeared to be right, but the dessert, it had chocolate on the bottom,” Wilson told a jury of his peers at the Knox County Criminal Court earlier this week. “The hot fudge should be on top. It freezes up when you get fudge on the bottom of it. I asked them to redo it.” The store’s assistant manager, Brad Skelton, refused, saying Wilson was looking to pay the price of a plain sundae, which costs ten cents less. An altercation ensued, which ultimately resulted in Wilson punching Skelton in the face. Wilson claimed Skelton used a racial slur and tried to rush him as he headed for the exit. The jury didn’t buy Wilson’s self-defense argument and found him guilty of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct. He was fined $1,050 and now faces the possibility of spending 364 days in jail. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for September 27th. The judge should give him a year just so he has to go in an tell people this stupid fawking story when they ask him: “What you in for?” Image via Flickr Source
It’s more than just official, Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy are now serious. Just how serious? The country singing superstar introduced the 18-year old offspring of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Mary Kennedy to her parents in Nashville this week, with a Twitter user actually snapping a photo of the quartet at dinner: Photos first surfaced of Swift and Kennedy on July 4 weekend, as they spent time with his family in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Since then, the couple has shared a few meals in public and an insider tells Us Weekly that Swift is “head over heels” for her new young man: “It’s really puppy love right now.” Conor’s famous grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, is all for the union. Asked about it last week at the Television Critics Association press tour, Ethel said of the possibility that Swift could become part of this famous family: “We should be so lucky!”
Ben Affleck ‘s come a long way since his 1998 Oscar co-win for Good Will Hunting , arguably the first time Hollywood stood up and took notice of the multi-hyphenate as more than just an actor; according to Variety, he’s now being sought after to direct WB’s Justice League , DC’s answer to Marvel’s billion-dollar rival franchise starter The Avengers . But even after the successes of modest-scale thrillers Gone Baby Gone and The Town , and with his buzzed-about forthcoming picture Argo poised for awards season, is the writer/producer/actor/director the right filmmaker to helm the superhero studio tentpole? Sources tell Variety that Affleck has been given the Justice League script as WB approaches him to direct, speculating further that he could additionally star in the pic. But take it all with a healthy grain of salt: Insiders tell Movieline that the report, while plausible, “is ridiculously vague and early.” That’s pretty much what the report sounds like, coming conspicuously just a day after Disney’s Bob Iger spilled the news that Joss Whedon will be coming back to helm Avengers 2 . So somebody out there wants to gauge public opinion, generate a little Justice League buzz, stir the pot. Given the mixed reaction rippling through the blogosphere today, consider that pot stirred. The question is, would Affleck make a good choice for the Justice League movie? Notwithstanding the possibility that he’d star while simultaneously helming an epic megamillion-dollar production with billions of box office, a multi-film franchise, and the fiscal fate of the studio on the line — really, would he? Would anyone? — maybe he’d only take one job at a time in this case. Just maybe. What Gone Baby Gone did to put Affleck on the map as a bona fide seriouspants filmmaker to be taken seriously — if emphasized moreso because nobody really expected it of the guy who starred in Gigli — The Town amplified with its gritty genre leanings. Argo looks to be his most ambitious directing project to date, advancing from tidy Boston-set thriller to multinational historical-political drama. Project by project, Affleck is fine-tuning his sensibilities, widening his reach and skillset with each progressive (and well-chosen) film. Based on his two features to date, Affleck’s a decent but promising director, adept at balancing ensembles and gritty material and great with his actors. The critical and commercial success of The Town most recently demonstrates what any studio with most superhero movies in the post- Batman Begins age is aiming for — the ability to deliver complex, acclaim-worthy material while satisfying audiences. Variety’s report adds more ambiguity to the mix by noting that Affleck is also considering an offer to topline Greg Berlanti’s Replay at Warners, a Groundhog Day -esque sci-fi drama about a man who dies only to wake up, able to live out different potential life paths over and over. Back in 2010 Affleck was reported to be mulling the project, based on Ken Grimwood’s 1987 novel, only then — on the heels of The Town — he was looking to direct. I see Affleck more likely to continue along this route, building a directing resume out of smaller, character-driven dramas for grownups. Then again, he’s already brought Superman to the big screen once before, donning the spandex for Hollywoodland . Should he do it again? [ Variety ]
Before there was Django Unchained , there was Django , and the star of that 1966 spaghetti western, Franco Nero, can be found in the 1970 surreal comedy Compañeros, which also inspired Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming anti-slavery opus. The Film: Compañeros (1970) Why It’s an Inessential Essential: With Django Unchained on the way, it’s a good time to revisit the films that inspired Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming pastiche. The winningly surreal action comedy Compañeros is the third installment of a trilogy that spaghetti-western director Sergio Corbucci’s shot with Franco Nero, the star of the original Django (1966) and the mysterious man who makes a prominent cameo at the end of the Django Unchained trailer. Like most spaghetti westerns, Compañeros is a mish-mosh of narrative tropes that takes the kind of mercenary outsider made popular in the genre by A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and Django and places him in the political, revolutionary-centric context of “Zapata westerns” like Tepepa (1969) and Duck, You Sucker! (1971). Compañeros stars Nero as “The Penguin,” a Swedish mercenary who blows into town and is instantly plied with requests to join two warring factions: the current political regime and the revolutionaries. Soon enough, he bumps into the effusive Vasco, played by spaghetti-western staple Tomas Milian, a shoe-shine man who accidentally becomes a captain in the revolutionary cause. Through a series of convoluted events that inevitably involve double- and triple-crosses, Vasco and the Penguin team-up to help protect a scientist (Fernando Rey!) who knows the combination to a hulking bank vault that everyone suspects houses a huge bounty. But to get to the safe, the trio has to avoid Jack Palance’s mustachioed, pot-smoking baddy. (Did we mention that his character keeps a pet falcon? ) Almost everyone betrays everyone else along the way, making the film’s uplifting finale a welcome one. How the DVD Makes the Case for the Film : Blue Underground has re-released Compañeros in a very tempting box set with three other spaghetti westerns starring Milian: the middling Lucio Fulci’s Four of the Apocalypse (1975) and the manic Sergio Sollima’s Run, Man, Run (1968). The box set is basically a re-issue of their previous editions of the films, but there are some worthwhile special features, including commemorative featurettes on the films, that nicely complement the collection. The 17-minute documentary included on the Run, Man, Run DVD boasts some entertaining soundbites — such as when Milian proudly exclaims, “If there’s one thing in this life I’m sure of: I am fucking talented.” The “In the Company of Compañeros ” featurette is especially informative. In it, Nero and Milian look back at their work in the film and even music composer Ennio Morricone talks a little about the main theme he composed (“a kind of joyful requiem, but also dramaticit was a kind of reggae with a Gregorian theme.”). Milian’s anecdotes are the juiciest of this bunch. He explains that the way he he wore his beret in any given scene indicated how his character was feeling in that sequence. He also hilariously describes Jack Palance: “The way you see him behave in the movie? That’s the way he behaved on the set. He knows he has a scary face and he uses it.” Other Trivia: Milian and Nero joke about their rivalry during the production of Compañeros and how they went on to become great friends. Milian has an especially funny anecdote about the time he showed up to the set of Compañeros an hour and a half before filming started, only to discover that Nero had already been there two hours prior to his arrival! According to Milian, Nero would get to set early so that he could have crow’s feet applied to his face to make him look older. When a younger Milian asked Nero why he did this, Nero supposedly replied, “30 years from now, people are going to say: he never ages.”
Friday’s Total Recall reboot trades heavily on brand enthusiasm for Paul Verhoeven’s original 1990 dystopian sci-fi actioner , but its makers had to be careful not to invoke too much of the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle. And cool as it would’ve been to see the former Governator pop up in the new, grittier reimagining starring Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, and Bryan Cranston, director Len Wiseman ( Underworld , Live Free or Die Hard ) explained to Movieline why he chose not to indulge his inner fanboy. “There was talk about it very early on, and the kind of teenager in me fan was very tempted by it,” Wiseman said of the possibility of a Schwarzenegger cameo. “But the further we got into production on it, I just thought it would be too gimmicky. I wanted the movie to be its own movie.” The tonal difference between the original Total Recall and Wiseman’s is one reason why such a wink-wink nod might have distracted audiences too much. “I had to kind of check myself,” he continued. “How often had I seen that happen where I really thought it worked well? I haven’t, actually. It refers to itself in such a gimmicky way that I think it just takes you out of the movie.” Another would-be stunt cameo that almost made it into the Total Recall reboot was a brief appearance by Ethan Hawke , who was widely reported last year to be contributing a mystery performance to the film. Hawke even filmed his scene, which was said to include a five-page monologue . [KINDA-SPOILER ALERT] Producer Toby Jaffe spilled the beans , revealing that Hawke had been brought in to play a version of Farrell’s character Hauser, who subsequently undergoes the mind wipe and a face lift and wakes up sans memories as Quaid. “Ethan plays who he was before they wiped his mind and changed his face,” Jaffe told ScreenRant during production. [END SPOILERS] Hawke’s scene, however, did not make it into the final cut. As Wiseman told Movieline, “it was deleted, as many scenes were, for pacing and what have you.” But he also says Hawke’s footage could make it into the film’s eventual DVD/Blu-ray extended cut, although exactly how remains to be seen. As for Schwarzenegger, who’s back in the acting game post-politics and has Expendables 2 coming out two weeks after Total Recall , Wiseman was hopeful Arnold would eventually see the film: “I’d love him to see it.” Stay tuned for more with Total Recall ‘s Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman. Based on its latest findings, authorities are now considering the possibility that Sage Stallone was a drug dealer. As previously reported, the 36-year old son of Sylvester Stallone was discovered dead in his bedroom last week, surrounded by empty prescription pill bottles for Hydrocodone (generic Vicodin). However, officials do not believe Sage himself was abusing any substances, largely due to his weight (5’10”, 188 pounds at the time of his passing) and the lack of physical evidence on his corpse. TMZ insiders say no Hydrocodone tablets were actually found in Stallone’s home, despite the fact that each bottle could hold up to 500 pills at a time. As a result, detectives and investigators will attempt to trace the contents using each bottle’s serial numbers. Sage’s father, meanwhile, has reportedly hired his own private investigator to look into the life and death of his child, while all involved will need to wait a few weeks before the official cause of death is announced.
SMH at this : A Swedish judge cleared a man charged with rape because the victim was a transgender woman with male genitalia. From The Local: A man who attempted to rape a woman has been cleared of the charges by a Swedish court after it turned out that the woman he tried to rape was actually a man. Prosecutors said the defendant was “brutally violent” in the “attempted rape”, tearing off the victim’s pants and grabbing at the victim’s crotch, according to The Local’s translation of Sweden’s Nerikes Allehanda newspaper. But because the victim had a penis, “The intended crime never had the possibility of being fulfilled,” Sjöstedt explained. The unnamed defendant was found guilty of assault. The ruling infuriated Hyper Vocal’s Cooper Fleishman: “More than anything, this case highlights the sheer absurdity of the double standard with which we treat male victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Changing the verdict solely because of the victim’s genitalia is like switching a grand theft auto charge to petty theft because the car happened to be blue when the thief thought it was green.” Queerty’s Benji Douglas added, “In essence, the judge ruled that it’s not possible to rape trans women.” This guy should have been punished to the fullest extent of the law. Regardless of the physical limitation, this dude is a dirty violator and needs to be punished for committing a sex crime! Source

‘I officially have a lot of experience seducing younger women,’ ‘Vampire Diaries’ star tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Ian Somerhalder Photo: WireImage Now that “The Vampire Diaries” has wrapped its third season, Ian Somerhalder will now have some time to fill, and if fans of “Fifty Shades of Grey” have their way, he’ll step into the role of Christian Grey . For weeks, fans have been voicing their opinions on who should play the billionaire tycoon in the film adaptation of the hit erotic trilogy penned by E L James. Robert Pattinson ‘s name has been in the mix, as well as Ryan Gosling, but it seems that most vans are gravitating toward the “Vampire Diaries” star to take on this dark and dynamic character. MTV News caught up with Somerhalder at the CW Upfronts in New York City on Thursday (May 17) and he revealed that playing the role of Damon in the “Vampire Diaries” has been perfect training to get him ready to portray Christian Grey. “I think it would be an amazing thing,” Somerhalder said of the possibility of getting the role. “One interesting thing is, by the virtue of playing Damon for now a few years, [he’s] 170 plus years old, in love with an 18 year old, I officially have a lot of experience seducing younger women. I’m not saying, I’m just saying.” “Fifty Shades of Grey” revolves around Christian Grey’s relationship with young college graduate Anastasia Steele as the two develop not only a strong emotional relationship, but a much-talked-about sexual relationship. The scenes are so hot that at times it has left readers, and even Somerhalder a little flushed. “A little bit, yeah, there’s blushing,” Somerhalder said of some of the S&M scenes. We are sure fans would agree that Somerhalder could easily pull it off, but his support isn’t just coming from the “Fifty Shades” fans , it is also coming from his “Vampire Diaries” co-stars. “I know he’s campaigning, I love it,” Candice Accola said of Somerhalder expressing his interest for the role. “I mean, the whole thing is like Adonis, sexy and he fits that bill pretty well.” Kat Graham agrees , “Ian’s an amazing actor, he’s extremely dedicated to his craft and he’s also very good to the fans,” Graham told MTV News at the annual Wango Tango concert. “They’d be lucky to have him.” Do you think Ian Somerhalder would make the perfect Christian Grey?
