‘Harry Potter’ Kissing Scene ‘Tricky’ For Rupert Grint

‘We had to look like we wanted to do it, when in reality we really didn’t,’ he tells MTV News of lip-lock with Emma Watson. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rupert Grint Photo: MTV News While fans have long been waiting for Ron and Hermione to lock lips in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have said that it was not so much fun to film the highly anticipated scene. And, according to Grint, it was not any easier watching said kiss on the big screen — “especially in 3-D.” MTV News caught up with the “Harry Potter” star over the weekend, and he seemed to find it just as difficult discussing the scene now as he and Watson did after they filmed it in 2009. In fact, Grint couldn’t even remember how many takes of the kiss they had to go through before director David Yates finally yelled, “Cut!” “I have no memory of that day. I’ve kind of erased it,” Grint said. “I think it was about four.” After seven films of buildup, Grint’s Ron Weasley and Watson’s Hermione Granger finally culminate the romance that has been budding since their characters first met inside the Hogwarts Express. But as Hermione and Ron grew to love one another romantically, Watson and Grint became more like brother and sister, making the snogging scene all the weirder for them. “It was a tricky one, because it had to be believable. We had to look like we wanted to do it, when in reality we really didn’t,” Grint said. “We were soaking [in the scene], and that kind of made it a little bit easier, I think, because it was kind of this outburst of adrenaline.” When MTV News chatted with Watson about the kiss back in 2009, she echoed similar uncomfortable sentiments. In fact, she said she was so nervous during the first take of the kiss that she ended up pouncing on Grint in order to get the scene over with. “The only good side to it was the fact that we were both in the same boat,” Watson said. “We were both just like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe we have to do this. This is so awkward. Really awkward.’ So I could take comfort in the fact that Rupert felt the same way. We were both giggling. We were like 12-year-olds. We were like giggling children, where you just couldn’t keep it together.” We’re streaming live from the red carpet at the New York premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” on Monday (July 11) at 4:30 p.m. ET. J.K. Rowling Writing ‘A Lot’ Since Finishing ‘Harry Potter’

At ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2’ premiere, author says, ‘This feels like a new beginning to me.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Danielle Genet J. K. Rowling Photo: MTV News After more than a decade onscreen, the “Harry Potter” franchise will end July 15. The cast and crew had a big, sob-inducing farewell Wednesday at the London premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Amidst the sad goodbyes and constant cheering of fans, MTV UK caught up with “Potter” scribe J.K. Rowling to ask about her experiences turning her novels into films. “Hundreds of people have been involved,” Rowling said. “There’s not one of them I don’t think was indispensible and phenomenal. The most talented groups of people you could’ve found, and I just love them. The idea I won’t be able to go down to Leavesden and visit anymore is just sad.” Though Rowling joked several times throughout the night that she would return to “Potter” — “You know what? Maybe I’ll just write another one,” she teased — she also said she has some other projects on the horizon. She was most likely referring to the same one she talked about in February, telling BBC News she was “writing hard.” “I’m writing, and I’ve done quite a lot since finishing ‘Harry,’ ” she said. “I also felt I wanted the last film out of the way before I made any moves on the publishing front. ‘Harry’ is so huge and I suppose my involvement with the world has still been quite intense. This feels like a new beginning to me.” Since being released, the books have sold more than 450 million copies, and the films have grossed about $6.37 billion. Rowling told MTV UK she didn’t start out writing expecting this sort of success, and that’s not the way she measures the success of her books: She measures it by the way it has affected her readers. “Nothing makes me prouder ever than to meet a child or the parent of a child who says he/she never read before ‘Harry Potter,’ ” Rowling said. “Nothing makes me prouder than that.” We’re streaming live from the red carpet at the New York premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” on Monday, July 11, at 4:30 p.m. ET. ‘Harry Potter’ World Cup Down To Final Four!

It’s Hermione vs. Snape and Ron vs. Sirius in a showdown for the title of best ‘Potter’ character. By Terri Schwartz Photo: Warner Bros. With only four days left to vote in MTV News’ “Harry Potter” World Cup , the competition is heating up as the contestants narrow down. The Final Four “Harry Potter” characters were revealed Friday (July 8), and now Hermione Granger faces off against Professor Snape while Ron Weasley has a showdown with Sirius Black . It’s anyone’s call as to who will make it into the finals, let alone take home the trophy. “It gets down to who fans really want to see take this entire tournament home,” said Julia Hodges of DanRadcliffe.com and RupertGrint.net . Even with the stakes raised so high, the “Harry Potter” experts MTV has been chatting with have their own gut feelings about who is going to make it into the final round. And, according to Rosie Halse of the Leaky Cauldron , this is Hermione’s last hurrah. “This is where Hermione is going to fall down, unfortunately,” Halse predicted. “I love Hermione to pieces, but I think that Snape has a much more ardent following. He has so many twists and turns in the book, whereas Hermione is quite a constant character that perhaps Snape might win on a character basis.” But the experts still feel that one of the series’ Big Three will make it into the finals: Ron Weasley. “Sirius has been such an important role model to Harry, yet Ron has been such an important friend to Harry,” Andrew Sims of MuggleNet said. “I think in this competition, Ron is going to win because: A) popularity, and B) he’s always been by Harry’s side.” Voting for the Final Four continues on the MTV Movies Blog through Sunday, July 10, at midnight. Then the showdown between the last two “Potter” characters left standing begins promptly at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday, July 11, with the winner being announced later that night during MTV’s live stream of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” red-carpet premiere in New York City. It All Ends (With Laughter): The Harry Potter Cast Reunite for One Last Photocall

Despite the epic tears everyone is bound to shed once J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter film series comes to its conclusion this month, the cast was all smiles as they gathered in London for what will probably be the last big cast photo call of the franchise. Sadly, star Daniel Radcliffe was M.I.A. for the bittersweet photo op, but just about every other beloved witch, wizard, and Muggle was on hand to share smiles before tomorrow’s world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 .

Daniel Radcliffe Not ‘Comfortable’ Being A Role Model

‘I don’t think you should deify any human being,’ ‘Harry Potter’ star told MTV News last year. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images The transition from child star to adult star often comes with some hiccups. In a recent interview with GQ, “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe admits that there was a time when he found himself drinking a little too much. “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff,” he said of the time during shooting on 2009’s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” Since then, the 21-year-old has slowed down, telling the magazine that he prefers to have a “quiet life.” But Radcliffe has certainly been open about why he doesn’t see himself as a role model. Last year, he told MTV News, “I don’t look at myself as a role model. I would never place myself on that pedestal, obviously. If other people want to place me there, that’s up to them,” he explained. “I would advise them not to because I don’t think you should deify any human being. I think it’s something that I’ve grown more comfortable with the idea.” And despite his impressive career and all of the charitable work he has done with organizations like the Trevor Project, Radcliffe suggested someone else his fans should look to for guidance instead. “The thing I always say and I’ve often said in interviews, I think if people want a role model, Harry Potter’s a very, very good role model. And he’s something that won’t change,” Radcliffe added. “He’ll be fixed in that permanent lovely way, and so those are the role models you want. “I’m gonna grow old and get fat and stuff,” he added with a good-natured laugh. “And so you don’t want to make me a role model.” While Radcliffe tells GQ the paparazzi never caught him inebriated, when MTV News sat down with him, he did recall a certain pap shot of him smoking a cigarette that did get taken. But the star was willing to shrug it all off. “It’s a terrible thing to admit to, but yes I’m gonna go to help [for smoking]. That stuff, you know, is part and parcel of the job and it comes with the territory and you have to let it wash over you,” he said of the photographers. Pottermore: Our Top-Five Wish List For J.K. Rowling’s New Site

‘Harry Potter’ author’s site is still cloaked in mystery, but there are a few things we’d like to see on her Web creation. By Kara Warner J.K. Rowling Photo: Daniel Barry/Getty Images There’s a lot of “Harry Potter”-related excitement going around these days, what with the release of the eighth and final film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” in just a few weeks, and our own Harry Potter World Cup heating up. And on Thursday morning (June 23) in London, “Potter” creator J.K. Rowling made an official announcement about the mysterious “Pottermore” website she introduced last week. The site will deliver a free, online reading experience including, according to a press release, “extensive new material about the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories” and a digital capability in which “the storyline will be brought to life with sumptuous newly commissioned illustrations and interactive ‘Moments’ through which you can navigate.” “[It’s] a way I can be creative in a medium that didn’t exist when I started the books back in 1990,” Rowling told reporters during the press conference. That’s exciting stuff for “Potter” fans, considering the books have long since been completed and the final film hits theaters this summer. But at this point, with no Muggle having yet explored the site, we don’t know exactly what Pottermore will offer. Here are five things we hope we can see and do while playing in Rowling’s latest fantastical creation — now or in the future. Open Class/Character Development System No matter your house, heritage or O.W.L. scores, with the appropriate amount of training or playing time, you too can become an esteemed member of the wizarding community. No matter how basic or inexperienced you are when you begin exploring “Pottermore,” there should be opportunities for advancement and/or shifting skill sets. If you want to be an animagus, an auror, a healer, or even a professional Quidditch player, you need only put in the time. Quidditch Speaking of professional Quidditch players, there ought to be a recreational area in “Pottermore” where characters learn, play and eventually compete against one another at the hugely popular game. Instead of pitting competitors and teams against one another based solely on their houses, it would be great for players to be able to assemble themselves into teams. Virtual Place to Unwind, Be Entertained One of the main reasons Rowling’s masterworks have so many millions of fans, is because she’s created a world so magical and alluring, that we all dream of apparating into the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer or taking a walk through Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. It would be great if Pottermore featured a competition-free area for socializing in and around virtual versions of Rowling’s most beloved fictional shops and assorted hotspots. Annual “Pottermore” Gatherings Although Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter is currently a perfect place to mix and mingle with fellow Potterphiles, we would love an annual event in the vein of GenCon or Comic-Con, where fans from all over the world meet to share in everything Harry Potter. In addition to pointed panel discussions on a variety of subjects, why not also host a few live action duels in the spirit of the tri-wizard tournament? Maybe an attempt at a grounded game of Quidditch or two? Special Guest Stars And/Or Participants It’s nearly impossible to assemble the entire “Harry Potter” film casts for “Pottermore” participation, but perhaps before they all move on from their Potter associations the actors can record special interactive greetings and messages, to be carefully placed throughout “Pottermore”? Maybe Daniel Radcliffe and company can pre-record video messages of encouragement for players? Alan Rickman could instruct a brief beginner-level Defense Against the Dark Arts Class? We’ll even settle for video clips from the movies popping up every now and again. Also, if Rowling is taking the time to make this special announcement, we’re hoping she’s going to stay involved enough that she’ll consider recording some messages as well. So what did we miss? What do you want from Pottermore? Tell us in the comments!
