Michelle Branch Is Inked

It took me a while to write this post because I had to do a little research to remind myself who this Michelle Branch chick was. After about three minutes of searching and five minutes of online sudoku I’m still not sure what she’s famous for. In any case, whoever she is, she looks pretty hot showing off her stripper tramp stamp tattoos in Inked Magazine . I think that just about covers it, oh I forgot to say something about her boobs, or lack there of. Done.

Lady Antebellum Take Back Top Billboard Spot From Sade

‘American Idol’ finalist Danny Gokey debuts at #4. By Gil Kaufman Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now Photo: Liberty After a three-week run at the top, Sade ‘s Soldier of Love will be replaced at #1 on the Billboard albums chart by the very album she vanquished last month, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now. The country trio’s second CD will retake the top spot thanks to sales of 126,000, while Sade will drop down a spot after moving 79,000 more units for sales of nearly 900,000 in four weeks, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though he sold a bit less than Kris Allen did in his first week, last season’s #4 finisher on “American Idol,” Danny Gokey , had a solid debut at #4 (65,000) with My Best Days a week after appearing on the show; Allen’s self-titled album debuted at #11 on sales of 70,000 in November. Also breaking into the top five was country star Blake Shelton , whose Hillbilly Bone landed at #3 (71,000). The soundtrack to Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” re-imagining, Almost Alice — featuring songs from Avril Lavigne, the All-American Rejects, Owl City, Tokio Hotel and All Time Low — sold 58,000 copies to debut at #5, followed by the latest from rockers Lifehouse , Smoke & Mirrors (#6, 54,000). The third album from R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn , The Love & War MasterPeace, debuted at #9 (45,000), just ahead of country newbie Easton Corbin ‘s self-titled debut (#10, 43,000). The only holdovers in the top 10 were Lady Gaga ‘s unstoppable The Fame (#7, 49,000), which is zeroing in on 3 million in sales, and the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#8, 46,000). Just outside the top 10, Jason Derulo ‘s self-titled debut hit #11 on sales of 42,000. As he begins his one-year prison sentence , Lil Wayne ‘s Rebirth will fall six spots to #12 (32,000), just ahead of Ke$ha ‘s Animal, which drops six to #13 (30,000) as sales approach half a million. Also falling out of the top 10 is Justin Bieber ‘s My World (27,000), which slid five spots to #15. Among the other debuts this week: DJ Khaled ‘s Victory (#14, 28,000), Peter Gabriel ‘s covers album, Scratch My Back (#26, 20,000) and a live album from long-running shamrock punks Flogging Molly , Live at the Greek Theatre (#40, 13,000). Meanwhile, showing the power of another amazing viral video, OK Go ‘s Of the Blue Colour of the Sky moved back onto the lower reaches of the charts to #179 after six weeks out of the top 200 thanks to the massive coverage of their Rube Goldberg-ian clip for “This Too Shall Pass.” Look for a shakeup at the top next week as new albums from Gorillaz , Ludacris and country singer Gary Allan crash the charts. Random Person Conan Followed on Twitter Already Shilling Like a Star [Microfame]

Sarah Killen , the “someone” Conan “decided to follow at random,” got 17,000 follows, a wedding dress, shoes, an iMac, and raised $2600 for cancer. She also appears to be unaware that Conan is no longer on TV. Popeater interviewed Killen—or @LovelyButton , as she is known on Twitter—who says that, before he followed her, Conan wrote to ask if it was OK. If you could send Conan O’Brien a personal message, what would you like to tell him? I’d tell him that he’s changed my life. Even if the hype stopped now, the last couple days have changed the rest of my life. Have you been getting any other swag? We have an iMac computer now. A guy from Hornblasters, a Florida-based online retailer, contacted us and gave us the brand new iMac… I’ve also been getting lots of donations for the 3-Day Walk for the Cure, which helps raise money for breast cancer research… I was going to do the walk and didn’t know how I would raise all this money. I got $2,600 in a couple days. You started with three fans before he followed you, correct? Yeah. Three followers. Now I’m up to 16,000+ in just a few days. Such is the power of fame, even when it’s secondary. Sarah’s upcoming wedding just got a big upgrade, and she is inviting Conan. I’m getting married on September 25, and we didn’t know if we would be able to afford it. Now I’m getting custom made shoes and a dress from Kelima in New York. They offered a gown in exchange for promoting their favorite charity, the Children’s Hunger Fund. We’re getting a limo, Classic Creations is giving us wedding bands and there’s a vineyard in California sending us wine. We’ve got it all covered now… Is Conan invited to your wedding? Absolutely. My fiance wants Conan to be his best man. That would be really cool. And hey, if he wants us to come on his show, we’d get married on there. That would be fantastic. I’m not sure who should break the news about Conan’s show to Sarah. [ Popeater ]

The Game Laments Lil Wayne’s Jail Time: ‘I Don’t Like It At All’

‘Everybody makes mistakes,’ the Compton MC says of Weezy’s gun-possession charges. By Shaheem Reid The Game Photo: Peter Kramer/Getty Images After Lil Wayne’s sentencing Monday (March 8), his family, fans and friends are definitely bummed to see him go. “It’s f—ed up,” the Game said about his friend and “My Life” collaborator’s jail time. “I don’t like it all. I don’t have one good feeling about it. I’m happy Tip is coming out , but sad that Wayne and Gucci gotta go in . I don’t like to see that. I like for my n—as that co-exist with me in hip-hop to win. I don’t like to see [for example] Fab go to jail just as much as he don’t want to see Game to jail. That sh– is wack. “As n—as is approaching their 30s, the end of their 30s, and becoming hip-hop veterans and legends, we gotta become a little more wise,” Game continued. “Everybody makes mistakes. I’m pretty sure at this point, Wayne is kicking himself in the ass for the sh– he did. But n—as is fathers, n—as is growing. With age comes wisdom, man. We’ll learn and we’ll get it all together. As long as we stay together, we’ll be straight. This sh– is a brotherhood. Long as we got each other, we’ll be straight.” Game said he would love to see that solidarity among his peers come to light with everyone joining together to make a positive song with a message. “We’re a bunch of [guys] from the same country that came from the same struggle, we grew into the same dominance,” the Compton MC said. “Remember ‘Fight the Power’ and ‘Respect Yourself’? … We gotta get back to that. ‘All in the Same Gang’ — when n—as gonna do one of them? On some cool sh–. That’ll be cool. We gotta figure it out. But I don’t wanna be a part if it if the n—as I admire and whose music I listen to is in jail. When Wayne do his six months or eight months and Tip get all the way out and Gucci is out, [we artists] can we really do it. These are the n—as that do it in hip-hop right now.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Lil Wayne’s Battle With His Gun Possession Case Related Artists The Game Lil Wayne

‘American Idol’ Castoff Haeley Vaughn Says Miley Cyrus Is An ‘Icon’

‘I’m a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there’s something there that I can work on,’ she says. By Katie Byrne Haeley Vaughn Photo: Fox Haeley Vaughn’s smile was infectious, but her uneven singing left the “American Idol” judges (and fans) frustrated. After her shaky performance of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” Vaughn was eliminated Thursday, along with Jermaine Sellers , John Park and Michelle Delamor. Will the 16-year-old’s country/pop dreams still come true? We talked to the high-schooler from Fort Collins, Colorado, on Friday (March 5) to talk about that and more. Q : What did you think when Kara suggested you take a year to strengthen your vocal skills? A : I kind of agreed with her. I think that more experience and more time working on my vocals would be good. I think experience is always better, especially since I’m only 16 and this is the first big thing that I’ve done ever. I’ve never performed in front of millions of people before; I’ve never even performed in front of 100. I think it’s always good to get more experience and work on the things that I need to work on. Q : The contestants seem to be particularly nervous this year. Is the anxiety level really high? A : The first week was really tough. We were all super nervous and scared and worried about our song choice. The first week, we were all just freaking out and trying to pick the right songs and make sure America would like them. Nerves are always gonna play a huge factor in what we do on the show. Q : Why didn’t you sing any country songs during your first two semifinal performances? A : The songs I chose, I made them kind of pop/country. I wanted to not have to sing Martina McBride every week just because I wanted to be a country artist. When Carrie Underwood was on her season, she didn’t sing only country songs. She was very versatile, and she chose songs of a different genre and she made them fit her country style. And that was my whole thing that I did too. Q : Do you think the judges have been particularly rough this year? A : Simon was definitely really harsh this season. But, I mean, he has reason to be. … Sometimes he should soften the blow a little bit, but that’s Simon Cowell. He’s been like that for nine years. Q : Are you going to go back to school or focus on your career? A : I’m definitely gonna keep working on my career. I’m gonna keep singing. Hopefully, doors will open up for me. I’m a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there’s something there that I can work on. I’m just gonna keep working on my career and doing what I love to do. Q : What kind of career do you see yourself having? A : Miley Cyrus is one of my icons. Oh my gosh, I love her…. Country music is definitely my genre, pop/country. And playing my guitar is awesome. Yeah, if I were given the chance to do that, I would definitely jump on it. Q : Have you had a chance to talk to any “American Idol” alumni to get advice? A : I talked to Allison [Iraheta] for a bit when she came and she performed the first week. And she just told me to stay true to who I am and keep doing my thing and keep doing one genre of music and just be really strong and confident. Were you sad to see Haeley go? Do you think she should have performed some more country songs? Let us know below! Drake’s New Single ‘Over’ Is ‘Real Dope,’ According To DJs

‘I love this record,’ DJ Khaled says. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Although Drake has had a string of hits on radio and in the club, from his own “Best I Ever Had” to collaborations like “Forever” and “Say Something,” the pressure was on for the first official single from Thank Me Later to deliver. And, judging from the reaction he’s getting from some of hip-hop’s biggest tastemakers, Drizzy has another smash on his hands with “Over.” ” ‘Over’ is real dope,” DJ Statik Selektah said. “He could have chose to run with a soft, candy-coated record, but he didn’t. The beat is crazy. I’m looking forward to his album!” “I love this record,” DJ Khaled told MTV News. “It’s amazing! It’s special! Drake did it again! It’s a hit!” “I think Drake’s record is dope,” said host of MTV2’s “Sucker Free” and Power 105.1 on-air personality DJ Envy. “I know he had a lot of pressure and the world staring at him, but I think he delivered. He did it his way — outside the box. Drake’s song talks about how he’s dealing with his fame since coming on the scene last year. “On a couple of different levels, it’s not what you might think somebody would do,” DJ Green Lantern said. “Its not like, ‘Let me make “Best I Ever Had” Part 2.’ It’s an everybody type of record.” “I put him in the box with Kanye, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne — artists that love the craft,” Envy added. “As I’m listening [to the song], I’m like, ‘Yeah man. It’s dope,” Green Lantern said. “In the sense of the general straight-listener sense, it’s a catchy song. It’s a catchy song that will stick in your mind, be on repeat and connect to people. ‘I’m doing me.’ That was the first part that stuck out to me. The ‘hood is gonna love the ‘I’m doing me. I’m doing me.’ That’s the ‘hood right there.” Green says the record has ‘hood and pop appeal — it’s universal. “As Drake said before, the hipsters and the hood f—s with him, so his single has to be across the board. The Jay Electronica lovers f— with Drake and the Lil Wayne/Gucci Mane lovers f— with Drake, so his single has to go across the board. It’s not a lot of people that could do that. Technically, the beat is different too — it’s a sample. I’m like, ‘This sh– is dope.’ ” Related Artists Drake

Taylor Swift Thinks Taylor Lautner Is Hot

Or so she says in an interview for April’s Elle, which may have happened before their breakup. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift on the April cover of Elle Photo: Elle Taylor Swift is on the cover of the April issue of Elle, and inside she reveals her thoughts on the hotness of her ex-boyfriend, “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner . But don’t get too excited by the possibility that this interview might lead to a romantic reunion — it appears to have been conducted before Swift and Lautner went their separate ways. The interview may have taken place in December 2009, when Swift was spotted wearing a hairstyle similar to one she’s sporting in the accompanying photos (bangs and all). In addition to talking about her fears and her lyrical inspirations, she sheepishly shared that her “Valentine’s Day” co-star was on her hot list. “Um, well … Taylor Lautner,” she said in response to a query about who she thought was hot. The two reportedly split up in late December. Swift has never been shy about using her relationships as lyrical inspiration . “I like to categorize the various levels of heartbreak,” she told Elle . “I’ve only had that happen once. A letdown is worth a few songs. A heartbreak is worth a few albums.” Swift, who kicked off the second leg of her Fearless tour on Thursday, also talked about her own level of fearlessness. “I overthink everything,” she explained. “I overanalyze everything.” Sometimes for Swift, though, all that thinking can lead to success. For instance, she claims that the power of positive thinking ultimately pushed her to move to Nashville, where she realized her musical ambitions. “I just got it into my head that there was this magical place that I needed to go to because that was where dreams come true,” she said. But it seems that as her star rises and her popularity grows, so does the scrutiny Swift faces from the public and the media. She said that these days, people are waiting to see if she’ll make a mistake. “I’ve had countless opportunities to do some really bad things,” she said. “And then people start combing through everything I do, trying to find the next mistake and misperception, which leads to more scrutiny. “Like, if I go to a bar, even if I’m not drinking, who’s to say that a source isn’t going to say that I was doing something I shouldn’t have been doing?” she went on. “So it’s not only about your own moral compass, but the moral compasses of other people that you don’t know.” Related Artists Taylor Swift

Scoring Sunday’s Nuptials: Til’ Blog Do Us Part [Altarcations]

Every weekend, the New York Times ‘ Weddings & Celebrations arise like media manna from the heavens for vicarious brides-to-be and nostalgic has-beens. And every weekend, Gawker Weddings Expert Phyllis Nefler scores them. I now pronounce you blog and Altarcations. I’m not sure if you guys know this, cause it hasn’t been announced (Psych! The phone’s been ringing off the hook from here inside the house) But this weekend is the last time Foster Kamer has the keys To the once-great website which he’s aptly driven to its knees. So because we’re clearly operating absent any rules And this final weekend feels like Quasimodo’s Feast of Fools And these newlyweds are basically the contra of legit I figured, hell, I’ll monkey with the format just a bit. Leslie Streeter writes a weekly column in a Palm Beach rag Where she chronicles the happenings of all the gents and hags. Given Florida’s demographics, I suspect that we could get A situation where the subjects die before The Death of Print. Leslie first met Scott Zervitz, the man she’d later come to catch, As a “very nice girl” in high school (he drove a Camaro, natch.) Facebook brought them back together, as that thing is wont to do, And she told her readers he’d proposed in a restaurant review. In a story that kind of conjured up the Dirty Dancing plot, Hali Feldman’s dad first met Ben Friehling in a vacation spot . And the Feldman family starting dining yearly at Benji and Jakes, A restaurant owned by Friehling near the Catskills in White Lake. Friehling fell “immediately in love with her, without a doubt,” And when he served their table he would always go all out. Although Hali found him too young (at that point he was 22) They ran into one another on a Tulum beach; sparks flew. Later, on a sunset horseback ride on “Ms. Feldman’s family ranch,” She was thrown off saddle, causing frantic Ben Friehling to blanch. Paralysis was feared but thankfully did not occur Hali was confined to bedrest for a month; Ben stood by her. If you’re someone who gets riled by gentrification creep You might dislike this happy pair who have “classed up” the Bowery. Jeffrey Goldstein’s store, called Blue and Cream , is a Hamptons import That went up right near the time that CBGB’s closed its doors. The couple grew up near each other (Upper West Side, obvi) And first met, the story goes, on New Years Eve down in Miami. And now they work together selling overpriced apparel, Their wedding, unsurprisingly, was at the Standard Hotel. (You have to put the em- pha -sis on the first syl- lab -ble for that last one to work, but just go with it, k?) The law school at GWU was the first date spot for this pair, They’re like a median composite sketch of every student there . The bride in this other couple analyzes all the ads That run on CNN.com; does that mean this FAIL was her bad? To the Faceoff we now go, although this week’s so mediocre That they’re kind of the head fleas on a dead dog among these jokers. But still, props to our two couples who by virtue of their status Have come out on top per Altarcation’s scoring apparatus. Cindy Hwang and Jay Chiang had quite impressive undergrads, He went to MIT; she was cum laude at Yale. Not bad! That’s five points right there, and two more points for their advanced degrees: She’s a lawyer out of NYU, and he’s a PhD. Jay’s a worker at McKinsey and his dad’s a physicist; Cindy works in law: I wonder, are her doctor parents pissed? That’s another five for these two, bringing them to twelve in sum, I look forward to the power couple they will soon become. Sarah Burley and Doug Reid get minus one for being old, But she gets plus seven from her Harvard/Dartmouth path, all told. And her mother is a) named “True” and b) the piano lady At the Brookline schools, which are the very opposite of shady. Plus two for that, and plus one for Reid’s MBA degree, Since it wasn’t from an Ivy school he does not get plus three. But they were married up at Harvard by an Episcopal priest, So that nets them two more points, they’d get eleven at the least. I like the looks of these two though, especially her pearls And the pink cableknit sweater is a must-have for good girls. (Note to Julia: this is how pink and preppy is best done!) So we’ll finish them with thirteen points, which makes them number one. Foster’s moving to the Village Voice , just a few clicks away So I want to take a moment of your time so I can say That we’ll miss him very dearly (unless Nick Denton is our name) and it’s safe to say he’s going out atop his fearsome game. [ I will never—ever—watch ‘Say Yes to the Dress.’ Ever. But Altarcations will continue to run after I’m gone, every Sunday, right here. Nefler: You’re awesome. Mazel tov on a fantastic run, and here’s to so many more. You want a piece of this, Slate? Call me. – F.]
