‘Hunger Games’ Claims Best Fight At MTV Movie Awards

Katniss and Peeta’s battle against the cruel and cunning Cato beats out ‘Harry Potter’ and more in Sunday night’s most violent category. By Josh Wigler and John Mitchell Alexander Ludwig and Josh Hutcherson win at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Two killers against one — not exactly the fairest of odds, no, but it certainly sets the stage for one of the coolest fights we’ve seen on screen all year long. It’s only fitting, then, that “The Hunger Games” took home Best Fight at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Sunday night (June 3), gifting both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson with their second Golden Popcorn statuettes of the night, and bad boy Alexander Ludwig with his first. The award was presented by “Prometheus” co-stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, who thought his Irish heritage and famous and much-discussed manliness meant he could handle the duties himself. “I was thinking since I’m Irish, I would just handle this one,” Fassbender rationalized. “Yeah, you know, fighting Irish and all that. And considering you’re a girl and all that.” Unfortunately for Fassbender, Theron wasn’t having it, and decided to show him exactly how tough even the most glamorous girl can be. The poor guy didn’t get past “And the nominees are” before she’d knocked him to the floor with just a handful of swift (mock) blows. For his part, Fassbender played the part of the victim well, writhing on the floor in faux pain before working his way back on his feet. Just as the “Twilight” films have dominated the Best Kiss category over the past several Movie Awards shows, so too is “Hunger Games” poised to own the Best Fight arena in the years to come. After all, these movies are about unwitting contestants battling to the death — every film from “Catching Fire” to the two-part “Mockingjay” will feature scenes of brutal violence, with lead actors Lawrence and Hutcherson often on the front lines of the action. “Wow, this is really cool,” Hutcherson, who also scored the prize for Best Male Performance , told the audience. “I’ve always loved doing stunt work [and] producers have always hated me for that because they’ve never want me to do it.” Hutcherson and Ludwig’s fellow Best Fight winner, Best Female Performance winner Jennifer Lawrence, was unable to make it to the awards because she is in Prague filming “Serena.” “We were filming ’til like six in the morning that night so it was an amazing experience,” Ludwig added before thanking “Hunger Games” fans for all their support. Of course, you won’t see Ludwig in any future “Hunger Games” fights — his character, the cruel and cunning Cato, was the ill-fated loser of the Movie Awards-winning fight. But District 2 supporters, never fear: You’ll get to see the man who plays Cato again very soon when he makes an unlikely “Twilight” crossover with Taylor Lautner in next year’s “Grown Ups 2.” Who knows? Perhaps that mash-up could be eligible for Best Fight in a couple of years! The 2012 MTV Movie Awards are officially under way! George Michael Reveals Split From Kevin Goss, Love For Amy Winehouse

Monday night on his Symphonica tour in Prague, George Michael gave fans a rendition of Amy Winehouse’s “Love is a Losing Game,” then gave them a piece of very personal information – he and longtime partner Kevin Goss broke up. “It’s time to be honest,” he said . “My love life has has been more turbulent than I’ve let on. This man has brought me a lot of joy and a lot of pain.” Michael then dedicated “Where I Hope You Are” to Goss. George Michael – Love is a Losing Game As for Winehouse, it’s no secret that George Michael was (and still is) a huge fan of the young star who passed away last month. He said: “Amy was, in my opinion, the most soulful vocalist [we have] ever seen.” George urged Amy’s label to re-release “Love is a Losing Game” in the wake of her passing, as it is “the way she should be remembered,” and “as one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time, I hope she is at peace now.” His cover of the moving track (above) can only help that cause. R.I.P. Amy. NOTE : Check out our gallery of Amy Winehouse pictures (1983-2011).

Kanye West May Be Filming ‘Movie Companion’ To Album

Rapper has been tweeting about shooting in Prague. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West Photo: Dominique Charriau/ WireImage Kanye West is in a creative groove right now, finishing his own album, doing a remix for Justin Bieber and announcing plans for a joint LP with Jay-Z . In addition to all his musical ventures, the rapper is working on a “movie companion” to his upcoming album, a source with knowledge of the project told MTV News. Photos from the set appeared on blogs on Wednesday (September 1). The images do not appear to be from any particular scene, though, as West looks to be in between takes from filming; one image shows West walking over to a waiting deer. “On set of the movie,” ‘Ye wrote in a Twitter message last week. “This doe just refuses to sit still. … I told the deer … ‘what would Bambi do?’ & she looked at me like I was crazy.” The rapper has been writing messages via Twitter about his overseas adventures, particularly about details surrounding the shoot. “Last day in Prague,” he wrote late last week. “We’ve shot some good stuff so far … really good … NO! I mean REALLY GOOD! “Just wrapped for the day,” he continued later. “Been shooting 16 hour days. … I’m so excited. … It’s like a child’s delusions become reality!” A representative for West did not respond to a request for comment from MTV News. It’s unclear as of press time which director is attached to the project and whether the film will be bundled with West’s forthcoming album. His last album, 808s & Heartbreaks, featured a Spike Jonze-directed short, “We Were Once a Fairytale,” inspired by the track “See You in My Nightmares” featuring Lil Wayne. The movie was an iTunes only release. Related Photos What Has Kanye West Been Up To This Past Year? The Inspiration For Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Video Related Artists Kanye West

Why (most) women like to shop

How we buy jeans may depend on our gender, according to research that examines shopping behavior through an evolutionary lens. Our ancestors didn't shop for holiday gifts, but the way we buy may owe credit to thousands of years of evolution. In a new study, researchers propose that our mall-visiting behaviors harken back to the days when men hunted and women foraged

Czech Govt allows 5 Cannabis plants for personal use from 2010

The interim Czech government, led by chief statistician-turned-Prime Minister Jan Fischer, Monday took another step towards making casual marijuana smoking a worry-free affair. Fischer’s cabinet defined what constitutes “small amounts” of cannabis for personal use, clarifying the country’s new penal code that from next year decriminalizes cultivation and possession of the plant by individuals. Czech Republic Decriminalizes Cultivation Of Marijuana Starting Jan. 1

By Steve Elliott in Toke of the Town Photo: Psychonaught Five of these? Yes, please. (Super Silver Haze sativa/indica hybrid) The government of the Czech Republic in eastern Europe will allow ordinary citizens to grow up to five marijuana plants starting Jan. 1, 2010. The cabinet of Prime Minister Jan Fischer defined “personal use” amounts of cannabis and other drugs, clarifying the nation’s new penal code that will decriminalize cultivation and possession of pot. While marijuana will remain technically illegal, possession will be punished only with fines comparable to those imposed for parking tickets, Sean Carney at the Wall Street Journal reports. What constituted “small amounts” for personal use was previously undefined. Police and the courts loosely interpreted the laws on a case by case basis, often resulting in home marijuana growers being jailed. Photo: Reality Catcher This is what 15 grams of pot looks like. If you have this much or less, you won’t have to Czech yourself, starting Jan. 1. According to the Justice Ministry’s additional proposed rules, which according to Czech newspaper České Noviny are not yet formally approved, the possession of up to 15 grams (just over half an ounce) of dried marijuana will no longer be a criminal offense. Individuals will be also allowed to possess up to five grams of hashish without being prosecuted. If the government accepts the ministry’s proposed rules in two weeks, those having more than 15 grams of marijuana or five grams of hash could still face up to one year in prison. Also allowed under section of the new rules already approved will be cultivation of up to five coca plants and five mescaline cactus. Up to 40 psilocybin “magic” mushrooms may be kept at home, according to the approved rules. Even harder drugs are included in the decrim plan. According to a section of the proposal not yet officially approved, up to two grams of methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin will also be decriminalized. Possession of up to four Ecstasy tables won’t be criminally punished. Approval of a table specifying specific amounts of drugs is part of the country’s new penal code, approved last year by both houses of Parliament and signed into law this year by President Vaclav Klaus. Hempiest heads in Europe? Czechs are not only Europe’s heaviest beer drinkers (320 pints per person per year), according to the Wall Street Journal ; they may also be the continent’s biggest potheads. Almost one of four, 22 percent, of Czechs between 16 and 34 smoke marijuana at least once a year, according to a 2005 report by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction. Although the medical marijuana issue is gaining prominence in Europe and worldwide, the Czech Republic still doesn’t recognize medical use of the herb. However, a Czech non-profit group in September opened the nation’s first marijuana dispensary in Prague, despite there being no medical marijuana laws on the books. The grand opening of the dispensary was attended by Prague’s mayor, Dr. Pavel Bern, who is also a physician and proponent of responsible marijuana use. Some Czech courts have occasionally made exemptions to current law to allow for medical use and cultivation of cannabis, but without supporting legislation such rules remain in limbo.
