Benzino, Star of Love & Hip Hop, Allegedly Shot by Nephew on Way to Mom’s Funeral

Benzino, best known for his role on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop, was shot yesterday afternoon en route to his mother’s funeral in Atlanta. Law enforcement officers tell WCVB that the reality star (and former owner of The Source magazine), took a bullet from his nephew after an argument erupted between relatives in the funeral procession. “There has been growing family tension,” the local district attorney told the station, via TMZ. The D.A. explains that Benzino and nephew Gai Scott were in different vehicles that ended up side-by-side at one point and that’s when the latter died his gun. He has been charged with assault with intent to murder. The funeral continued without Benzino and his nephew, with the preacher saying the hearse and accompanying limo were covered in blood when they arrived on the scene. Benzino has been hospitalized and is stable condition. Co-star Stevie J posted the above photo of the pair on Instagram, making it appear as if Benzino got hit in the arm. Think this is a bizarre story? Go watch Love & Hip Hop online at TV Fanatic. It gets even crazier!

D’Angelo Talks To GQ About Gettin’ Off That Blow And Just Saying No To Madonna

Can you believe this is his first interview in 12 years??? D’Angelo has cleaned up his act and is preparing to finally release another album and he talks about his past struggles with fame and the road to his return with GQ. We’ve got some excerpts for you here: R&B Singer And Mother Of D’Angelo’s Son Angie Stone Recalls When Fame Started To Take Over : Stone remembers an event in Manhattan in September 1996 that was billed as Giorgio Armani’s tribute to D’Angelo. Stone—thirteen years older than D—was three months pregnant with their son. They headed to the event together in a limo, but as they neared the venue where D was going to perform, it suddenly pulled over. “He was asked to get into another car, where he would be escorted by Vivica Fox,” Stone says, her voice breaking slightly. The lissome Fox had just appeared with Will Smith in the blockbuster Independence Day. “It was a Hollywood moment. They wanted a trophy girl. I had to walk in behind them to flashing cameras. It started the wheels turning of what was yet to come.” D’Angelo Turned Down Madonna: When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing “Happy Birthday” at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, “I’d like to know what you’re thinking.” To which D replied, “I’m thinking you’re rude.” Sorry but we love that one! The Energy Behind “Untitled” Was Less About Sex Than Food : Paul Hunter, the director hired to make the video, says his work was misunderstood: “Most people think the ‘Untitled’ video was about sex, but my direction was completely opposite of that. It was about his grandmother’s cooking.” I’ve stopped by Hunter’s office in Culver City, California, to hear how D’Angelo came to be filmed bare-chested (but for a gold cross on a chain around his neck), wearing only a pair of precariously low-slung pajama bottoms, looking like a wolf circling a b!tch in heat. Illuminated from every angle, he spins very slowly as the camera fetishizes his every ripple and drop of sweat. I’ve imagined a lot of things that inspired the song’s rousing lyrics (Love to make you wet / In between your thighs cause / I love when it comes inside of you), but collard greens weren’t among them. Hunter is quick to explain that he, like D, was raised in the Pentecostal church. “When I used to sing in the choir,” Hunter says, “after the rehearsal, you go in to eat. I remembered seeing the preacher looking at a lady’s skirt one week and then, the next Sunday, talking about how fornication is wrong.” Such mixed messages about the pleasures of the flesh were intertwined with the pleasures of the palate—part of the same sensual stew. “So I was like, ‘Think of your grandmother’s greens, how it smelled in the kitchen. What did the yams and fried chicken taste like? That’s what I want you to express.’ “ The video may have looked like foreplay, but it was actually about family, Hunter insists—about intimacy. Later, when I tell D’Angelo this, he says, “It’s so true: We talked about the Holy Ghost and the church before that take. The veil is the nudity and the sexuality. But what they’re really getting is the spirit.” That’s interesting right? Hit the flip for more D’Angelo quotes about the cost of fame and how he self destructed…

‘American Idol’ Elimination Brings ‘Relief,’ Joshua Ledet Says

‘It sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that,’ ‘Idol’ castoff tells MTV News. By Kelly Marino Joshua Ledet Photo: MTV News “American Idol” finalist Joshua Ledet won’t be taking anyone to church during this season’s finale next week, leaving bluesy rocker Phillip Phillips and budding diva Jessica Sanchez to compete for the title. The 20-year-old powerhouse received a record number of standing ovations from the panel and has been proclaimed as one of the best contestants in the history of the show. So, coming in third place with the lowest total of the 90 million votes cast this week might come as a shock to some, but Ledet says it was more like a relief. “I just felt relief,” the soulful singer told MTV News backstage after the show. “As soon as they said Phillip was going on, I felt a lot of pressure came off of me and I was — I’m not going to say I was happy — but it sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that and this and that. But when they said I wasn’t going on, I was just like, ‘OK. Now I can get this song out of the way and then go home and go to sleep or do something fun.’ ” But make no mistake: It wasn’t just about getting his farewell song out of the way. After belting out “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown, the Louisiana native claims he was so overwhelmed, he couldn’t fully recall what the judges were saying to him when they came to console him after the show. “I honestly don’t remember what they were saying because I think I was so emotional,” the preacher’s son explained. “I just remember Jennifer [Lopez] telling me never to give up and that my career is going to go higher from here on out and to just keep believing in myself. “Definitely, it gives me a lot of hope seeing Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert and Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry. All of these people that didn’t win have had a lot of huge careers, so hopefully that can happen for me.” That being said, Ledet’s career probably could take off if Jimmy Iovine has anything to do with it. For weeks, the show’s music mentor has continuously hinted at signing the singer, even claiming to know the exact type of album he should make — a bit ironic, considering the Interscope head admitted wrongdoing by picking Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” for the gospel sensation to perform before being voted off. Thankfully, though, Ledet has no regrets. “I don’t regret any performance that I’ve done on the show,” Ledet said. “People can say one thing, but it’s what I feel in my heart and how I feel about something. So, I don’t think I’ll let people tell me what to do as a person if it’s not true to me in my heart. “I definitely did like the ‘No More Drama’ song,” he added. “It’s not a lot of melody, but I don’t think it’s a competition song. It’s just one of those great songs that you can perform at the Grammys or something.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Hi Hater! Jeremiah Wright Says The Obamas Weren’t “Church People”

Jeremiah Wright Says Obamas Didn’t Go To Church Jeremiah Wright – Obama’s attention sloring former pastor – is back with more. This time, he’s unloading his thoughts on the Obamas. Sigh. He didn’t learn his lesson the first time? Anyway, here he goes. “Church is not their thing. It was never their thing,” Wright says of Barack and Michelle Obama. “She was not the kind of black woman whose momma made her go to church, made her go to Sunday school…so the church was not an integral part of their lives before they got married — after they got married.” But that’s not it. He went on to say more. Wright also says that Obama was selected before he was elected, and that’s why Wall Street got a break and why Obama stands behind AIPAC and calls himself a Zionist. “We didn’t have the money to select him”, says Wright. Regarding Obama’s evolution, Rev. Wright says Obama has become a politician, and no longer cares about the truth. During a conversation, Wright says Obama told him, ”You know what your problem is. You have to tell the truth.” Wright responded, “That’s a good problem to have.” “Politicians don’t have to tell the truth. Truth is what we say it is. Well, I somehow can’t live with that,” Wright told Klein. “That’s why I could never be a politician. I think that the transformed Barack has become a politician.” Wright goes on to say that another preacher also told him that the Hillary Clinton campaign was paying black preachers to attack him. More of this interview will be detailed in Edward Klein’s new book, “The Amateur,” an unauthorized biography of President Barack Obama. It was just a matter of time before this clown tried even harder to tear the president down. Pic via WENN Continue reading
