Lady Gaga’s New Single Is ‘So Beautiful,’ RedOne Says

Born This Way producer says, ‘We get into the studio and suddenly magic happens.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Lady Gaga Photo: Steven Lawton/FilmMagic On February 13, Lady Gaga will finally release the first single off her highly anticipated May release, Born This Way . Sure, Gaga has said she wants this to be the best album of the decade and that it will most likely “piss people off,” but little is known about the album’s vibe sonically. Her producer, RedOne, wouldn’t spill too many details about the single when MTV News caught up with him at the LA Times’ The Envelope Roundtable – Music Producers, but he did let everyone know that the pair have once again made magic happen. “I think it’s too precious to talk about,” RedOne explained. “It’s so beautiful, and Gaga is very special to all of us — to the world.” Last fall, Gaga blew her fans away when she released “Bad Romance,” a catchy, incredibly massive tune including her very own Gaga battle cry. The epic lead single off The Fame Monster has fans and haters wondering if she could ever top herself. RedOne said you don’t have to worry about that. “Honestly, the only thing we do is we get into the studio and suddenly magic happens,” he said. “We never overthink, or we just do what we do. That’s how it all started. With ‘Just Dance,’ we did it in one hour. There was no overthinking. Even though I remember when we did ‘Poker Face,’ people said musically it brought something new to the music and you won’t be able to top it, we went into the studio and we did ‘Bad Romance’ on a bus. “That explains how we do it, so I can’t tell you anything about what’s coming but that’s what we do. We just get in and do music we love and feel it, and thank God it comes out good.” How do you expect Born This Way to sound? Give us your predictions in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga

Britney Spears Vs. Lady Gaga: Fans Weigh In

Fans are split between Gaga and Britney as 2011’s Queen of Pop. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears and Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images On Monday, MTV News tried to forecast whether Lady Gaga or Britney Spears will be 2011’s ruling diva. And while our experts decided it was sort of a toss-up, commenters on our predictions had very strong opinions on that epic question. With nearly 1,500 posts between the Newsroom blog and the Gaga vs. Britney article , here are the results of fans’ votes on the matter. Spears won the poll on the Newsroom blog with more than 60 percent of the vote. Britney fanatics stated their overwhelming support for the singer. “The one and only legend Britney Spears from past to present, she’s the most popular on the planet,” Jojo wrote. “We the supporters love Britney Spears a lot. We buy her perfume, CDs … we are here for her. The legend is coming through.” Daniel wrote, “You never know what to expect from Lady Gaga but I think that THE REAL QUEEN OF POP is back … TEAM BRITNEY!” Meanwhile, commenter CrazySpears wrote, “I think GAGA is ok but people can never compare her with Britney … you know Britney is the Queen.” But Gaga’s little monsters were also out in full support of their mother monster. ” Born This Way will be the album of the decade and that’s a fact,” Little wrote. “2011 is Gaga’s year, again.” Imtherealbatman wrote, “LADY GAGA FTW! Lady Gaga is the shizz dude. She is going to win this war. I LOVE YOU LADY GAGA!” Another Gaga commenter, Carl, added, “WHAT COMPETITION IS THERE !?! Have you not seen the impact Lady Gaga has done to pop culture today?! Bringing dance music back on the scene, creating a buzz by standing up for gay rights, connecting to her fans in a way NO other artist has!?” In the end, commenter Kyle proposed that it’s really anyone’s game. “Well, just in case you were saying I’m not a devoted Gaga fan, you’re wrong. Born This Way is all I think about. But I love Britney just as much. And neither is superior,” he wrote. “They are famous for their own reasons and it doesn’t matter what they are. What matters is how much devotion and loyalty they get from fans. Britney’s fanbase has been and always will be huge. Just like Gaga’s is growing strong.” Who do you think will rule in 2011, Lady Gaga or Britney Spears? Tell us in the comments below! The 2011 Grammy Nominees Revealed … Possibly

Eminem, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga and more Grammy guesses, in Bigger Than the Sound. By James Montgomery Eminem and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage On Wednesday night (December 1), CBS will broadcast one of my favorite events of the year: the annual Grammy Nominations telecast/concert/thingy. Not only is it the unofficial kickoff of the self-congratulatory season, but it gives me a chance to wager on another largely arbitrary and oft insane awards show. So, you know, I’m pumped. After all, it’s not exactly news to readers of Bigger Than the Sound that I fancy myself quite the prognosticator, particularly when it comes to shows like the Grammys (or the VMAs ). This is partially because I consider myself an expert on these kinds of things, but also because I have a huge gambling problem. Sometimes, I even manage to hit the nail on the head, like I did with my predictions for last year’s Grammys (who among us can forget my triumphant 4-for-5 performance in Record of the Year?!?), though, more often than not, I fail miserably. Still, I keep trying. It seems I cannot turn down the opportunity to pick the nominees at crazy awards shows, and the 2011 Grammys (which will air Sunday, February 13) are perhaps the craziest in recent memory. After all, back in April, the Recording Academy — the folks behind the Grammys — decided to randomly extend the eligibility period to 13 months (from September 1, 2009, to September 30, 2010), which meant a whole lot of albums that I practically forgot about (Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3, Muse’s The Resistance, John Mayer’s Battle Studies ) were all of a sudden back in play. All of that is a rather longwinded way of saying that these picks are nothing more than informed guesses, really — though, in keeping with the general WTF-ery of the Grammys, I suppose that makes them strangely perfect. In an attempt to save myself from total humiliation, I’ve decided to tackle only the so-called Big Four categories: Record, Album and Song of the Year, plus Best New Artist. So here, for your wagering pleasure (and mine) are my predictions for the 2011 Grammy nominations. Record of the Year This is the Grammy for song of the year (in olde-tyme speak — and hip-hop — songs are referred to as “records”), though they might as well call it the Group of Death, since over the past 13 months, so many massive artists released so many massive songs. Last year, Academy voters gave the award to the Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” though this year, I have a feeling it could be a rapper taking home the hardware. My picks:

What do you think the world will look like in 100 years?

Once upon a time — in 1909 to be exact — the New York Times predicted that by 2009, we'd no longer use automobiles. We know that prediction was way off, but based on pulp history scholar Jess Nevins' transcription of the original piece, there are other interesting glimpses of what people back then thought our lives would be like now:

Chris Matthews Winces In Pain When Guest Says Dems Could Lose Senate

Chris Matthews this weekend winced in pain when a guest on his syndicated program said it’s actually more likely the Democrats will lose the Senate than the House in the upcoming midterm elections. As the “Chris Matthews Show” entered its final segment when guests offer their predictions, New York magazine’s John Heilemann said, “There are a lot of really smart Democratic politicos that I talk to who are actually a little bit more worried right now that it’s possible Democrats could lose the Senate more easily than they could lose the House.” Matthews interrupted with a pained expression on his face, “That’s like losing a dozen seats.” As Heilemann continued, the host once again interrupted, “Could [Sen. Barbara] Boxer lose in California?”  When Heilemann said yes, Matthews grimaced, “You’re talking tsunami” (video follows with transcript and commentary):  CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: John, tell me something I don’t know. JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: You know, there are a lot of really smart Democratic politicos that I talk to who are actually a little bit more worried right now that it’s possible Democrats could lose the Senate more easily than they could lose the House. And part of it I think is because there are… MATTHEWS: That’s like losing a dozen seats. HEILEMANN: Well, it is, and I think there’s a concern about some of the quality of some of those Democratic candidates, there’s a concern about the national mood, and then there’s also some concern about the National Democratic Senatorial Committee which is not actually investing money necessarily in the wisest way according to some of the Democrats who… MATTHEWS: Could Boxer lose in California? HEILEMANN: Boxer could lose in California. And I think it’s also possible that you could see Democrats lose seats they should not lose like in New Hampshire, like in Illinois, seats they should absolutely hold that right now they’re not spending much money there. MATTHEWS: You’re talking tsunami. HEILEMANN: They could lose, yeah. Sheesh, could Matthews at least try to behave like a journalist and not show the audience how pained he is at the thought of a Democrat loss this November?

‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Grown Ups’ Play Well Together At Weekend Box Office

Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise’s ‘Knight and Day’ fizzles at #3. By Josh Wigler Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear and Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story 3” Photo: Disney/Pixar The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Toy Story 3” ($59 million) #2 “Grown Ups” ($41 million) #3 “Knight and Day” ($20.5 million) #4 “The Karate Kid” ($15.4 million) #5 “The A-Team” ($6 million) Moviegoers pining for their childhood years and those not quite ready to admit that they’re well into their adult lives walked away happy this weekend as “Toy Story 3” and “Grown Ups” were the big winners at the weekend box office, while “Knight and Day” opened to disappointing results. Landing in first place was “Toy Story 3” for its second-consecutive weekend victory. The Pixar family film earned $59 million in its second frame, bringing the latest “Toy Story” installment’s domestic total to $226.6 million after just two weeks. With an additional $100 million earned overseas, “Toy Story 3” has a worldwide toy chest worth $326.6 million, far exceeding its production budget of $200 million. Although the toys had the most fun at the box office this weekend, there was plenty to enjoy for “Grown Ups” as well. The Sony comedy stars veteran comedians and noted friends Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, whose collective comedy power resulted in a strong $41 million debut. While name recognition was a helpful factor in the success of “Grown Ups,” it did little for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s “Knight and Day.” The action-comedy earned $20.5 million over the weekend and $27.8 million since debuting on Wednesday, an unimpressive result given the box-office returns that Cruise and Diaz were once used to seeing. Landing in fourth and fifth place were “The Karate Kid” and “The A-Team,” proving their continued staying power in their third week at the box office. “The A-Team” has just barely crossed its production budget of $110 million, thanks to foreign ticket sales. Last weekend’s newcomer “Jonah Hex” virtually disappeared from sight with a $1.6 million 10th place finish, leaving many moviegoers scratching their heads wondering what went wrong with the Josh Brolin-starring DC Comics adaptation. Upcoming Releases Bella Swan finds herself in the crosshairs of deadly vampires and difficult romantic decisions once again with the arrival of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Wednesday. But are the legions of Team Edward and Team Jacob supporters enough to take box office gold away from M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender”? Which movie do you think will top next weekend’s box office? Share your predictions in the comments. Roger Federer vs. Igor Andreev — Australian Open 2010

www.fuzzyyellowballs.com Roger Federer and Igore Andreev are squaring off in the first round of the 2010 Australian Open. The last time Federer and Andreev played was the 2008 US Open, where Andreev pushed Federer to 5 sets before ultimately losing to the Swiss star. FYB’s prediction is that Roger will win in straight sets. While Andreev has a big game — particularly a massive forehand — his results since the 2009 US Open have been very poor. He lost in the first round to American Jesse Witten in that tournament and has only won one match on the professional tour since. We’ve got a prize for the person who predicts the score of this match the best — a $25 gift card from Tennis Express. Post your predictions in the comments for this video (before the match starts!).
