President Obama Stops Pregnant Woman From Fainting During Health Care Speech

President Barack Obama stopped to help a pregnant woman on the verge of fainting during a speech he gave on health care in Washington, D.C., today. Nearly 30 minutes into his speech, under the hot sun, a pregnant female supporter standing behind the Commander-in-Chief began to feel lightheaded. Fortunately for the mom-to-be, Obama became aware of what was going on over his shoulder and turned around to lend Karmel Allison some support. NOTE: This type of assistance is not covered under the Affordable Care Act. Woman at President Obama Speech Almost Faints “I gotcha, you’re OK,” Obama said as he put his arm out to steady her, and went on to joke, “No, no. You’re OK. This happens when I talk too long.” Quickly afterward, a White House aide came to escort Allison off the stage as the President continued his speech, which came to end shortly thereafter. Later, the expectant mother, who revealed that she’s suffering from Type 1 Diabetes, made sure to extend her gratitude to POTUS on Twitter: “I’m ok world – just got a little lightheaded. Thanks, @BarackObama for catching me! And good thing this pregnant diabetic is pregnant :).” For his part, Obama sought to quell some of the lingering doubts and frustration with the new health care law, which has been embroiled in controversy. Not only did it play a role in the government shutdown, but the program’s long-awaited rollout this month has been marred by technical glitches galore. “Our goal has always been to declare that in this country the security of health care is not a privilege for a fortunate few, it’s a right for all to enjoy,” he said. “That’s what the Affordable Care Act’s all about. That’s it’s promise. And I intend to deliver on that promise. Thank you very much, everybody. God bless you.” Obamacare: Save it or sink it?   Uphold the law, it’s clearly constitutional! Do You Agree? MSNBC Analyst Says GOP Racism And Hatred Against President Obama Is The Real Reason Behind Republicans Trying To Defund Obamacare

News Analyst Says Racism Is To Blame For Republican Opposition To Obamacare The GOP is trying to bring President Obama down because he’s black?? You don’t say. via Mediate On Friday, MSNBC host Ed Schultz insisted that Republicans threatening to pass a budget which defuneds Obamacare, which could possibly result in a government shutdown, is motivated by the fact that President Barack Obama is “other.” Schultz said that the GOP is moved by “hate” and that an “element of serious racism” was clearly evident. “This is all about one thing: obstructing this president,” Schultz said. “To come to the conclusion and to have a big summary to the American people that this president is not legitimate. He is other. We’re not going to let him succeed.” Schultz said that the GOP’s opposition is motivated by the fact that there is a “black man in the White House.” “This is hate,” Schultz asserted. “And now this hate is coming to your doorstep.” “Here is an element of serious racism here,” he concluded. “This isn’t about the deficit. This isn’t about the budget. This is about power and control, and the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time in their mind.” We definitely wouldn’t be surprised if this were the case for sure. Do you agree? Matrimony-dom: Gwyneth “The Most Beautiful” Paltrow Says She Would Forgive Her Hubby If He Was Caught Creepin’

Gwyneth Paltrow keeps trying to fool folks into thinking she’s all nice and forgiving and stuff… She recently did an interview with Refinery29 while promoting her new movie Thanks For Sharing , which all about her being in a relationship with a man (played by Mark Ruffalo) who has a sex addiction. Check out some excerpts that delve into how Gwyn would deal with a cheating hubby or someone with sex addiction: Speaking to the movie, do you think you could you stay in a relationship with a sex addict? “I’m an extremely open-minded person, so I think if it was something I knew I was getting myself into, I wouldn’t let it deter me from exploring the relationship.” What about the majority of women? How do you think other women might handle it? “I think it would be hard for me to be one of those wives who finds out there’s been something going on behind my back twenty years in. I’d imagine you’d begin to question your life. It would definitely make things harder, but I believe that if there’s authenticity and honesty right off the bat, things will be okay.” Cheating and sex addiction are similar, but still very different. Could you stay with someone who cheated? “I think that if the idea of being committed to someone is important to you, you begin to value certain parts of your social life over another. No couple is the same, and as such, every couple takes on different challenges. I would like to think that I would be forgiving and/or forgiven, but I can’t give an honest answer as I haven’t really experienced that.” Do you believe her?? How would you answer these questions if you were faced with them? AKM-GSI Continue reading

Chad Michael Murray and Kenzie Dalton: It’s Over!

It is surprisingly and sadly all over for Chad Michael Murray and Kenzie Dalton. The engaged couple has gone the way of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth , a rep for the actor confirmed today, saying in a statement to Just Jared: “ Chad Michael Murray and Kenzie Dalton quietly parted ways earlier in the year. Please respect their privacy at this time.” Call us cynical – or accurate, considering this news – but after six years without a wedding, perhaps the couple should have realized something was wrong. We wish both actor and actress the best of luck in their quests to find true love.

House Passes Bill to Fund Government, Defund Obamacare

The U.S. House passed a short-term spending plan to continue funding government operations through mid-December but withhold funding for Obamacare. House Votes to Defund Obamacare In the never-ending battle over President Obama’s signature health-care law, the GOP fired the opening salvo in what promises to be a contentious 10 days. If the measure, which would extend government operations by only three months, or an alternative bill is not passed, the government will shut down. The legislation would fund federal agencies at an annual rate of over $986 billion but would also leave in place automatic spending cuts known as sequestration. Those are set to take place in January. The bill includes language to prohibit any funding going to implementing the health-care law, leading House GOP leaders to declare victory Friday. “The House has listened to the American people. Now it’s time for the United States Senate to listen to them as well,” said House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-OH). Also acknowledging that the proposal to end the health-care law is at the centerpiece of the budget plan was House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA). Whether it happens is another story. The Democratic-controlled Senate is expected to move quickly next week to strip the health-care provisions from the bill. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said upon passage of the measure that any bill that defunds Obamacare “is dead” and “a waste of time” in the Senate. Still, House lawmakers voted by a 230-189 margin to approve the funding measure. Two Democrats voted for it. One Republican voted against it. “This place is a mess. We’re not here to expand government, but we’re not here to eliminate government,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said. “If the idea is to limit government, let’s work together to do that. But what is brought to the floor today is without a doubt a measure designed to shut down government.” The bill now moves to the Senate, where it has no chance of being passed in its current form. Whether the sides can come to a deal in ANY form is the open question. Obamacare: Save it or sink it?   Uphold the law, it’s clearly constitutional! Repeal the law, it’s so unconstitutional! For Discussion: NAACP’s President And CEO Ben Jealous To Resigning To Spend More Time With His Family

NAACP President And CEO Ben Jealous To Resign Ben Jealous , NAACP President and CEO, has announced that he will no longer lead the civil rights organization. According to USA Today: The man who has become the face of the NAACP — from marches protesting the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin to vigils for death row inmate Troy Davis in Georgia — is resigning effective Dec. 31. In an interview with USA TODAY, Benjamin Todd Jealous said the constant travel as president and CEO of the nation’s largest civil rights organization has kept him away too much from his wife, civil rights lawyer Lia Epperson, and children, daughter Morgan, 7, and Jack, 13 months. He said he plans to make a formal announcement to his staff Monday morning. “Leadership knows when to step up and when to step down,” Jealous said. “This day I can say with pride that I’m prepared to step down and make room for the next person who will lead this organization to its next chapter.” Jealous, 40, said he is talking to a handful of schools within commuting distance of metropolitan Washington about teaching. He plans to continue work with civil rights colleagues toward raising money for a fund to promote black participation in politics. In a separate interview with USA TODAY columnist DeWayne Wickham, Jealous detailed plans to create an “EMILY’s list for people of color.” The civil rights leader said he’s satisfied that he will leave an organization in much better condition than it was when he took over five years ago. Back then, the Baltimore-based civil rights group was financially shaky and shouldering constant criticism that its aging leadership was out of touch. Now, the organization is solvent, social media savvy and its staff seems to be part of a new cadre of leaders — headed by President Obama — who are diverse, well-educated and visible. “In the last five years, we’ve had double-digit revenue growth, we’ve spent five years in the black,” Jealous said. Under Jealous, the donor base has grown from 16,422 in 2007, just before he started, to 132,543 last year. Revenue has grown from $25.7 million in 2008 to $46 million in 2012. Out of a total score of 70, independent non-profit reviewing organization Charity Navigator gives the NAACP 51.42 for finances and 70 for accountability and transparency. When Jealous came in at age 35, he was hailed as the youngest leader of the organization in its history, although some questioned whether he was old enough to serve, and the board vote approving him was close. As a lifelong activist, he was known in the civil rights community but not by the general public. Over the years, he changed that, appearing in public constantly, often alongside other civil rights leaders. If there was a major regional or national civil rights event, Jealous was often there with rolled-up sleeves. Other civil rights leaders credited Jealous for reaching out beyond the groups that have traditionally worked with the NAACP and stretching old boundaries. Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, a group that advocates for gay and lesbian rights, said that when he assumed his role a little more than a year ago, Ben Jealous reached out and met with him on his first day on the job. Jealous was insistent that both groups work together, and Griffin credits Jealous with pushing the marriage equality measures that have passed in recent years, as well as strengthening previously weak activist ties between the black and lesbian and gay communities. “Many times I’ve called him a modern-day civil rights visionary, and I truly think that is the only description that captures him,” Griffin said. “He led the NAACP to embrace marriage equality but also transformed the national conversation of civil rights.” Mary Kay Henry, international president of the Service Employees International Union, said Jealous helped expand what’s considered the civil rights agenda from the expected voting rights and death penalty cases to issues surrounding the closure of dangerous power plants, early childhood education and health care. “He’s been incredible in re-energizing the NAACP and taking the national operations to the next level,” said Henry, whose group worked with the NAACP to create a fund to advance black participation in politics. Because Jealous does not leave for four months, the organization does not yet have a plan in place for his replacement, Brock said. Jealous suggested the 104-year-old organization might be looking at a woman president. Thoughts on this sudden resignation?
