This must have a been a satirical speech or something… Republican Affiliate Says GOP Won’t Criticize Obama Because He’s Black A right-wing, anti-Muslim radical who spoke out at a political summit held last week raised more than a few eyebrows when he suggested that his GOP goon-squad peers have been too afraid to criticize President Obama because “the color of his skin is black.” via Think Progress David Horowitz — a right-wing operative who heads a think tank that works to discredit the Islamic faith — was one of the most passionate speakers at the Koch-backed “Defending the American Dream Summit.” In his address, Horowitz called the president “the most brazen and compulsive liar to ever occupy the White House” and said there’s an “obvious” reason that his opponents are hesitant to attack him. “No one will say it out loud. I will: It’s because the color of his skin is black,” Horowitz told the predominantly white crowd on Friday. “It is because Obama is a minority that nobody will hold him to a standard or confront him with what he has done.” He lost us when he even fixed his mouth to suggest that the GOP is hesitant to speak against President Obama as if it doesn’t happen on a daily basis. Woman Who Says Naval Academy Cadets Forced Sex On Her Testifies For First Time A female Naval Academy cadet who claims three of her Naval Academy peers forced sex on her while she was heavil intoxicated testified for the first time earlier this week. via NBC News The female U.S. Naval Academy midshipman at the center of a sexual assault case testified for the first time Wednesday, describing the events that led to three of her fellow midshipmen allegedly attacking her. The three men — Tra’ves Bush, Eric Graham and Joshua Tate —are accused of sexually assaulting the woman on April 14, 2012 after she passed out drunk at a party. During her testimony at the preliminary hearing Wednesday, the female midshipman, said she remembered waking up with back pain and few memories of the previous night. “I noticed I was really disheveled,” she testified. “I was really nerve-wracked because I didn’t know what had happened. Later that day, Tate, who had invited her to the party, told her that she had sex with him and Graham, she testified. “He was like, ‘What? You don’t remember?’” she said. “He told me that we had sex and he was going to have to refresh my memory.” “He was laughing,” she added, “and then I was like, ‘I don’t want to hear anymore.’” The Article 32 hearing, held at D.C.’s Navy Yard, is one of the highest-profile military sexual assault cases since President Obama made his first public condemnation of such actions, at the Naval Academy’s commencement ceremony in May. While bits and pieces of the story have come out about this case, this was the first time the alleged victim has recounted the incident in its entirety and come forward with her full side of the story. Allow us to explain: According to The Daily Star, West has invested $1.9 million in bullet-proof cars for him, Kim Kardashian and little North West , including a $482,000 Chevrolet Kodiak based on the model known as “Limo One,” which transports the President around. Along with the armored cars, West will plant two bodyguards along Kim’s side at all times. “If there have been any kidnapping threats against their daughter, he isn’t saying. But that fear is clearly in his mind,” the source said. “Kanye is also acutely aware that Kim has enemies who are resentful for her reality TV success, and the thought of anything happening to her or Nori is his worst nightmare.” Is Kanye West overreacting? The verdict is in for James “Whitey” Bulger, and the infamous Boston mobster was found guilty of federal racketeering and some murders, as expected. The man who eluded FBI investigators for 16 years after building a reputation as one of the city’s most ruthless mobsters was convicted of 11 killings. Whitey Bulger Guilty Whitey Bulger, 83, was charged with participating in 19 murders as well as 13 counts of extortion and money laundering, among various other crimes. The jury concluded he was directly involved in 11 of 19 murders, and also found him guilty on weapons charges, money laundering, and conspiracy. He faces life behind bars. As he left the courtroom, he reportedly gave the thumbs up to his brother Jack, while someone yelled, “Rat a tat tat, Whitey.” Jurors took more than four days and 33 hours of deliberations to convict Bulger, in what amounted to a sensational, headline-making 40-day trial. Specifically, they said his connection to one of the many murders – the shooting death of Roger Wheeler – was proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Convicted hit man John Martorano testified in the trial that he shot Wheeler in the head after the executive finished a round of golf at a Tulsa country club. The killing was sanctioned by Bulger, head of the Winter Hill Gang. Though jurors said Bulger’s involvement in the the murder of Michael Donahue in 1982 was also proven, the victim’s son Tom Donahue was shocked. “I’m not satisfied with the verdict – he should have been guilty for all those murders,” he said. “He should have been found guilty of everything.” He added of the mobster, “He doesn’t care about anybody he killed, he doesn’t care about anybody he extorted, he’s just a sick psycho individual.” In closing arguments during the trial, prosecutors called Bulger a “vicious, violent and calculating” criminal who methodically hunted his victims. Bulger had long been one of the FBI’s most wanted criminals when authorities astonishingly captured him at his Santa Monica, Calif., hideout in 2011. His former henchmen testified against him, including Kevin Weeks . The two gangsters shared volleys of profanity and shouting in the courtroom, as Bulger lashed out at Weeks for saying he was worse than a murderer. In any case, Bulger will never again see the light of day.
When does clowning around cross the line? That’s the question currently being debated after a rodeo clown at a Missouri State Fair donned an Obama mask this weekend and asked the crowd if it wanted to see the President “run down by a bull.” According to those in attendance, audience members clapped and cheered every time Obama’s name was mentioned in such a manner. Clown in Obama Mask Riles Up Missouri Crowd Soon after the show, those behind the State Fair issued an apology on Facebook for such an “inappropriate and disrespectful” stunt, while Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder condemned the act via Twitter, writing: “We are better than this.” Governor Jay Nixon and Senator Claire McCaskill also expressed disdain for the performance. “The young Missourians who witnessed this stunt learned exactly the wrong lesson about political discourse – that somehow it’s ever acceptable to, in a public event, disrespect, taunt, and joke about harming the President of our great nation,” said McCaskill in a statement. Some conservatives, however, are defending the stunt as an example of free speech and also pointing to the many George W. 40% Of White Americans Do Not Have Friends Of Other Races And the same goes for 25% on non-white Americans …. Via Reuters UK: About 40 percent of white Americans and about 25 percent of non-white Americans are surrounded exclusively by friends of their own race, according to an ongoing Reuters/Ipsos poll. The figures highlight how segregated the United States remains in the wake of a debate on race sparked by last month’s acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting of unarmed black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. President Barack Obama weighed in after the verdict, calling for Americans to do some “soul searching” on whether they harbor racial prejudice. There are regions and groups where mixing with people of other races is more common, especially in the Hispanic community where only a tenth do not have friends of a different race. About half of Hispanics who have a spouse or partner are in a relationship with non-Hispanics, compared to one tenth of whites and blacks in relationships. Looking at a broader circle of acquaintances to include coworkers as well as friends and relatives, 30 percent of Americans are not mixing with others of a different race, the poll showed. Respondent Kevin Shaw, 49, has experienced both integration and racial homogeny. He grew up in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and attended a mixed high school where he was one of only two white teenagers on the mostly black football team. His wife, Bobbi, is Hispanic. They met in high school and have been married for 27 years. Eleven years ago, they moved to a predominantly white neighborhood in the suburb of Liberty. “Soon after we moved in, my mother-in-law came to visit and a neighbor asked if she was my maid. It was just a matter of ignorance,” he said. In the time he has lived there the neighborhood has become less blinkered, helped by the arrival of younger families. In his comments two weeks ago, President Obama expressed optimism about the future, saying his daughters’ experiences show younger generations have fewer issues with race. “It doesn’t mean we’re in a post-racial society. It doesn’t mean that racism is eliminated. But…they’re better than we are, they’re better than we were, on these issues,” he said. Younger American adults appear to confirm this, according to the poll. About one third of Americans under the age of 30 who have a partner or spouse are in a relationship with someone of a different race, compared to one tenth of Americans over 30. And only one in 10 adults under 30 say no one among their families, friends or coworkers is of a different race, less than half the rate for Americans as a whole. These results were taken from the ongoing Reuters/Ipsos online poll and include the responses of 4,170 Americans between July 24th and August 6th. The credibility interval, a measure of precision, for these results is plus or minus about 2.7 percentage points for a five-day average on any given day during that period. Smaller subsets of the poll, such as blacks, Hispanics and adults under 30, have a credibility interval for that period ranging from about 3 percentage points to 11 percentage points. The race and ethnicity questions in this story are part a polling project that started in January 2012, surveying about 11,000 people a month since then. The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, turns 52 today. He’s probably feeling like he’s 52 going on 73 at this point in his career. Between still-modest economic growth, widespread global instability, myriad administration scandals and polarization in D.C., there’s a lot on his plate. Whichever side of the political spectrum you’re on, you have to admit, the man’s got a tough job. At the very least, Obama could use some birthday wishes! Just hang in there, Mr. President.
