Glenn Beck and Malia Obama

Glenn Beck later released a statement apologizing: “In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism, I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates. The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines. It was a stupid mistake and I apologize–and as a dad I should have known better.” Glenn Beck is not afraid of giving or receiving criticism, but he#39;s always made very clear that he feels children are not fair game in the political p

Think Arizona’s laws are tough? Lets look at Mexico…

Perhaps we should adopt similar laws as to what's on the books in Mexico for legal/illegal immigration: – Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years' imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years' imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country (see, for example, President Obama's illegal alien aunt — a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim). – The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset “the equilibrium of the national demographics.” How's that for racial and ethnic profiling? – If outsiders do not enhance the country's “economic or national interests” or are “not found to be physically or mentally healthy,” they are not welcome. Neither are those who show “contempt against national sovereignty or security.” They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own healthcare. – Law enforcement officials at all levels — by national mandate — must cooperate to enforce immigration laws, including illegal alien arrests and deportations. The Mexican military is also required to assist in immigration enforcement operations. Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens' arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities. – Ready to show your papers? Mexico's National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens' identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens. http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=992156 added by: occhipij

Nas, Damian Marley Bring Political Distant Relatives Tour To NYC

Duo joined by Evil Genius Green Lantern for socially conscious show. By Shaheem Reid Lyrically, Nas has been at a higher altitude than his peers since the beginning of his career. His verbal achievements have become legendary. While admittedly, Nas sometimes has questionable beat selections, the Queensbridge native’s words have been so piercing that the guy can frankly get away with rapping over anything. And he has. Last year when Esco announced that he would be following up his album Untitled with a duet LP with a star outside of genre, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley , some of his fans didn’t know what to think. But if there is anyone who could actually pull it off, it’s Nas. Certainly there would be way more public pushback if, say, a Jay-Z, Eminem, T.I. or Young Jeezy would have set out on such an audacious musical venture. But with Nas, you know his spirit is free, and even in his mid-30s, the timeless mic king is almost as rebellious as when he was a 20-year-old kid fresh out of the Queensbridge projects. Last night, Nas and Jr. Gong touched down at New York’s Highline Ballroom for the second show of their Distant Relatives tour (the trek started this weekend in Chicago). The messages in the music steer clear of materialistic jargon and partying — the duo pushed thought provocation on worldwide subjects. Nas brought one of the great DJs in hip-hop, the Evil Genius Green Lantern. Marley came with his band, including backup singers, as well as a flag bearer who proudly and tirelessly waved the colors of Jamaica throughout the show. “What happened to us?” Nas rapped with force on “Tribes at War,” performed at the top of their set. “Geographically they moved us, from Africa/ We was once happiness pursuers/ Now we backstabbin’/ Combative and abusive/ African and Arab go at it, they most Muslim/ We should be movin’ in unison.” “Ancient People” came next, with Nas checking his BlackBerry while on the mic. Either he had an urgent text message or he couldn’t remember his lines, but nevertheless, Esco kept going. “Nah Mean” followed, with the Distant Relatives duo asking President Obama what he could do for them. From there, it was vintage Nas. The supreme MC went into some vintage material, including “Nas Is Like,” “Represent” and “Hip-Hop Is Dead.” “I hate the radio!” Nas yelled on the latter. “F— the radio.” Nas shouted out the Jamaican forefather of hip-hop, Kool Herc, and at the end of “If I Ruled the World” gave love to Guru. “My man Guru, he walks,” Nas said as his background singers sang, “we’ll walk right up to the sun. Hand in hand.” “This one’s about leaders,” Marley sang, from one of the album’s highlights, “Leaders.” “Let’s all change the world.” “The odds stacked against him/ He fights back Mac and Benzes/ Never puts cash or ass before a friendship/ He laughs last/ As some die young, he is still existing/ Somehow he got around the pitfalls of the system/ When he walks, we watch/ When we talks, we listen/ Leaders.”

Earth Day Celebrated By John Legend, Jack Johnson, Others

‘Avatar’ director James Cameron, Sting and Q-Tip are expected at Washington, D.C.’s Climate Rally. By MTV News staff Photo: NASA/ Getty Images For the past 40 years, environmentalists have considered April 22 to be a day of reckoning. Earth Day is a time to organize, lecture, clean up and generally respect the planet — and remind others to do so as well. With President Obama focused on greening the economy by finding more, and better, alternative sources of energy and encouraging Americans to upgrade their old, inefficient appliances and cars, suddenly Earth Day is back in vogue. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Vice President Joe Biden announced this week that the administration intends to invest $452 million in Recovery Act funding to retrofit buildings in 25 communities from Wisconsin to New York as part of the White House’s ambitious plans to cut down energy use and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. (Here are some White House tips on how to green your home, work and community.) Although communities across the country will be holding various events to commemorate the day, the biggest gathering is planned for the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, when Sting and John Legend will be joined by the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, Booker T. Jones, Mavis Staples, the Roots, Passion Pit, former Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump and Q-Tip for the Climate Rally . Organizers and speakers will urge Congress to pass clean-energy legislation in 2010. Also participating in the event are “Avatar” director James Cameron and civil-rights activist Jesse Jackson. The day’s actual musical event will feature a concert by Ben Harper and the Relentless7, Guster and Alberta Cross at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta, Georgia, and a gig by folk duo the Indigo Girls at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. One of the greenest rock musicians, Jack Johnson, will hold his environmental benefit , the Kokua Festival 2010, at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu on Friday and Saturday, with help from supporting acts Ziggy Marley and Taj Mahal. Also touching down in Hawaii, at the University of Hawaii (Manoa) through Friday, is the Save My Oceans Tour , a multimedia event featuring music, film and art installations celebrating the oceans. The tour will also stop at George Washington University, the University of Utah (Salt Lake City) and University of Colorado (Boulder) through Friday and UN Berkeley through Thursday. Earth Day was founded by the late U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin to raise awareness about environmental issues and was first held on April 22, 1970. It has since turned into an international event that often features a week’s worth of activities centered on conservation and clean-energy awareness. How are you celebrating Earth Day? Let us know in the comments!

Brazil And Turkey Turned Down Iran Sanctions

The leaders of Brazil and Turkey have notified the US President Barack Obama that they are still against to imposing sanctions on Iran. On Tuesday, in a meeting held with the US president regarding the 47-nation Nuclear Security Summit in Washington DC, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey disagreed with the US calls for sanctions to be executed on Iran. The two leaders recommended the US president to search for a “negotiable solution” to the argument over Iran’s nuclear program so as to prevent imposing new UN sanctions on the country. President Lula also asked President Obama for further negotiations and to give Iran a chance. In spite of this, both leaders failed to attain a firm response from the US president. However, President Obama’s reaction was not definite, putting into consideration that the US leader is not all negative about attempting a negotiated solution.
