North Korea has upped the ante in its feud with the United States. In the wake of The Interview being released in select theaters on Christmas Day, along with an Internet outage this week in North Korea, a spokesperson for that unstable nation has come out swinging against President Barack Obama. Via a statement that blames America for North Korea’s latest World Wide Web disruptions, the totalitarian regime’s ruling body, the National Defence Commission, says of our Commander-in-Chief: “Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest.” The FBI, of course, has confirmed that North Korea was behind endless hacks into the personal lives of Sony executives, a scandal that caused the company to initially cancel the release of The Interview. In response to that decision, Obama mocked his country’s arch nemesis . The North Korean spokesperson also charged the United States with falsely linking the Sony hacking to North Korea “without clear evidence,” accusing the Presidential administration of “disturbing the Internet operation” of North Korea in retaliation. The Interview stars James Franco and Seth Rogen and centers on their characters’ attempt to assassinate Kim Jong-un. Sony chose to release the film in just a handful of theaters late this week, following Obama’s criticism of its decision to essentially erase it from existence in the wake of the hacking scandal. Adds North Korea’s National Defence Commission in its statement: “U.S. President Obama is the chief culprit who forced the Sony Pictures Entertainment to ‘indiscriminately distribute’ the movie and took the lead in appeasing and blackmailing cinema houses and theatres in the U.S. mainland to distribute the movie.” President Obama: Flubs James Franco’s Name
Peace! Free & AJ To Host Tonight’s Final Episode Of 106 & Park On BET BET’S “106 & Park” counts down to zero on Friday. Via NY Daily News reports: The most popular black music video show ever finishes its 14-year run as a daily televised program with a two-hour live farewell, 6-8 p.m. It isn’t disappearing. The regular program is moving online, to bet.com, and BET says it will resurface on the air with periodic specials. But the daily countdowns, more than 3,000 since the show launched on Sept. 11, 2000, won’t be part of BET’s programming any more. The final edition will feature performances by Fabolous and Ne-Yo, plus guest appearances and shout-outs from dozens of guests and performers on the show over the years. The past guest roster is an A-list, with the likes of President and Mrs. Barack Obama, Denzel Washington, Jay Z, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Kanye West, LeBron James, 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake. The show itself has been known for features like Freestyle Friday and the Video Hall of Fame, which inducted any video that made the countdown for 65 weeks in a row. More to the point, “106 & Park” ensured television exposure for artists whose access to airtime on other shows was often limited. There were debates among music fans whether the show was cutting-edge — the same discussion that used to swirl around earlier music shows from “American Bandstand” to “Soul Train.” All previous hosts are expected back Friday to help current hosts Keshia Chanté and Shad Moss bring it home. That will include AJ and Free (200-2005), Big Tigger and Julissa (2005-2006), Terrence J and Rocsi (2006-2012) and “The Search” hosts Miss Mykie, Paigion and Shorty da Prince. “106 & Park” left its original address some years ago, moving to W. 57th St., between 10th and 11th. Elizabeth Lauten Resigns Following Comments About Sasha And Malia Obama A GOP staffer will resign after launching a verbal assault on Malia and Sasha Obama in the wake of their appearance at the president’s annual turkey pardoning ceremony last week at the White House. Via MSNBC reports: Elizabeth Lauten, who served as a communications director for Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.), criticized the two girls in a Facebook rant which eventually went viral. “Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don’t make faces during televised, public events,” wrote Lauten. She also said that the Obama daughters, who largely stay out of the limelight, should show “a little class.” Many have argued Malia and Sasha were behaving like typical teenagers at the event. They appeared unamused by their father’s corny jokes and at one point Malia declined to pet the Thanksgiving turkey by simply saying, “Nah.” Lauten has since apologized for her post, admitting, “When I first posted on Facebook I reacted to an article and I quickly judged the two young ladies in a way that I would never have wanted to be judged myself as a teenager.” Lauten’s name became a trending topic amid the controversy, with over 22,000 mentions in 24 hours. She had previously been responsible for a gaffe this summer when she accidentally tweeted about “shagging” on Fincher’s official Twitter account. Now, her resignation is “in the works.” This is far from the first time the president’s daughters have been singled out for ridicule on the right. In 2010, during the BP oil spill crisis, Glenn Beck mocked Malia for reportedly asking President Obama about the clean-up. “Did you plug the hole yet, Daddy?” said Beck, imitating the president’s daughter. “Ask ‘Daddy’ why he ‘hates black people so much.’ ” The conservative radio host also mocked Malia’s intelligence, saying: “That’s the level of their education, that they’re coming to — they’re coming to Daddy and saying, ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?’ “ In 2012, when the president cited Malia and Sasha as influential in his decision to embrace gay marriage, Bristol Palin, the daughter of ex-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, attacked them in a widely criticized blog post. “I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox,” Palin wrote. That same year right wing firebrand Ann Coulter declared: “Maybe it’s time to start imitating liberals in another way and go after the Obama children.” Last year, following President Obama‘s statement that he would support the selling of Plan B, a birth control product, to girls as young as 15, Fox News host Andrea Tantaros speculated about the sex life of Malia, who was 14 years old at the time. “Are they gonna put her on birth control? Because he’s very concerned with contraceptives and pharmaceuticals that are going in the mouths of everybody else’s 15-year-old daughter,” Tantaros said, according to Media Matters.
