This is so sad. Student Killed In Shooting At South Carolina State University Why shoot up the school? According to USA Today: A student was killed Friday at South Carolina State University, and authorities say they are searching for at least four suspects. The shooting took place around 1:30 p.m. ET Friday outside Andrew Hugine Suites, a dormitory for upperclassmen on the campus of the historically black university about 40 miles south of Columbia, S.C. Killed was Brandon Robinson, 20, of Orangeburg. He had played on the school’s football team. “We are extraordinarily sad about this,” said university President Thomas Elzey, who teared up as he spoke at an evening news conference. “He’s a very nice young man … and it hurts. It hurts us all.” University Police Chief Mernard Clarkson said officials know who fired the shots and believe that the suspects have left campus but had wanted to be ready in case they returned. Earlier today, we recounted the Golden Globes Best & Worst Dressed via a photo montage of stars on the red carpet. However, Lady Victoria Hervey was not included in that collection of photos because she wasn’t actually invited to the event. But also because her outfit deserves its own article. It’s a good week to be Michael Douglas. The actor earned a Golden Globe last night for his role in HBO’s Behind the Candleabra, and he’s signed on for an even bigger movie role. Marvel insiders confirm that the veteran actor will star opposite Paul Rudd as Ant-Man in the big screen adaption of this comic. He will play the villainous Hank Pym. “With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige in a statement. He continued: “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.” Ant-Man will be released in July 2015. Sarah Palin is going from standing up for TV stars (she’s on Team Phil Robertson ) to being a TV star herself. The former Vice Presidential candidate appeared this morning at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in promotion of “Amazing America with Sarah Palin,” which premieres April 3 on the Sportsman Channel. “It’s gonna be huge and it’s gonna be fun,” Palin told reporters, explaining that the series will follow her and other family members around the country. They’ll hunt. They’ll fish. They’ll ride snowmobiles. And she hopes they’ll set an example to others around the nation. “I want young women to be inspired by the show that we’re going to put together,” said Palin. “One of the reasons is because I think this world would be better off having more young women holding a fish in a picture and fewer of them holding their camera in front of a bathroom mirror doing a selfie.” Whoa there! Did Sarah Palin just call out Kim Kardashian ? We may be coming around on her after all. Palin also said she’s “more excited” about this project than has been about many others she’s pursued since quitting her job as Alaska Governor. Why? But… Village People Frontman Says Y.M.C.A. Is Not A Gay Anthem Via The Grio reports: Victor Willis, original lead singer for the Village People, said he doesn’t mind that their hit “Y.M.C.A.” has become a gay anthem , but he will not perform the song in protest of Russia’s anti-gay laws at this year’s Sochi Olympic games. Gay rights activists have suggested the “Y.M.C.A.” be played when American Olympians are introduced at the opening ceremony. The song has long since been a gay anthem, but Willis said it was not intended to be. “If they want to use the song that way, go right ahead, but I think it’s silly because the lyrics were written by me as an expression of urban youths having fun at the Y.M.C.A.,” Willis said according to 3 News. “The words were crafted by me to be taken any number of ways but not specific to gays. It’s much broader than that. The song is universal. I don’t mind that gays think the song is about them but I won’t perform the song in support of any protest.” While he will not perform as part of a protest, the original frontman did say he would perform. “But I would consider performing the song as part of the opening ceremonies and lead the stadium into the ‘Y.M.C.A.’ dance as a show of world unity because that’s something I believe the world can relate to. But I have only been asked to perform as part of a protest. And to that, I say no.” Russian President Vladimir Putin signed strict anti-gay laws into effect in July, causing international backlash. Following the new law, Putin signed a decree banning all demonstrations and rallies in Sochi throughout the Winter Games. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
