It’s a wrap for Pine Valley, NY and Llanview, PA. ABC announced Thursday that the sun will set permanently in the fictional towns of Pine Valley and Llanview as All My Children and One Life to Live wrap up for good. AMC’s last episode – which was rumored last month to be on the horizon – will be in September, while OLTL will end in January 2012. “To honor the core, passionate audience and their rich history with our soaps,” both shows will conclude “in a manner that respects their legacies and the longstanding hopes of many of their viewers,” reads a press release from ABC. ABC executives point out to viewers that times are changing and say they were “guided by extensive research into what today’s daytime viewers want,” and blame, in part, “the changing viewing patterns of the audience” for the shake-up. All My Children began as a half-hour soap opera in 1970. One Life to Live began in 1968. Susan Lucci, who’s played the one soap opera character everybody knows – Erica Kane – was the first to issue a statement. “It’s been a fantastic journey,” she said in a statement. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with [series creator] Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.” Acting careers launched by All My Children including Josh Duhamel, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kelly Ripa, Mischa Barton and Amanda Seyfried; notable alums of One Life to Live include Laurence Fishburne, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayden Panettiere, Phylicia Rashad, Nathan Fillion, Marcia Cross, Judith Light, Ryan Phillippe, Blair Underwood and Brandon Routh. Do you feel some type of way about these two shows getting shut down? Source 1 Source 2
The clip, the ‘first-ever scripted, single-take video’ to be aired live as it’s filmed, will premiere on April 5. By James Montgomery Photo: Atlantic Records Death Cab For Cutie are gearing up for the May 31 release of their Codes and Keys album with a brand-new video that may not actually be a video at all. On April 5, they’ll unveil the clip for Codes’ first single, “You Are a Tourist,” which — according to a press release from their label, Atlantic Records — will be the “first-ever scripted, single-take video … to be aired live as it is filmed.” The whole thing will be broadcast to the entire world on April 5 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT through YouAreATourist.com , allowing fans to view the entire production as it unfolds. No breaks in the action, no edits, just one long, exceptionally live take. The “Tourist” clip will be directed by Tim Nackashi — who’s worked with the likes of OK Go and Radiohead — and conceptualized by frequent collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, who did DCFC’s “I Will Possess Your Heart” vid. Microsoft’s Bing search engine will be providing exclusive behind-the-scenes content through its Facebook page and fans can add the “Tourist” event to their calendars using the mobile barcode scanning app RedLaser and a QR Code (that’s that funny-looking box thing) that is being posted on Death Cab’s official site and Twitter feed. Death Cab for Cutie’s Codes and Keys is now available for pre-order (in a variety of special bundles) over on the band’s site . In the weeks leading up to the album’s release, DCFC will hit the road for a run of North American shows, beginning on May 18 in Toronto. They’ll also headline the Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 28 in George, Washington. What do you think about Death Cab’s unique video shoot? Share your opinions in the comments. Related Artists Death Cab For Cutie
Q-Tip tells MTV News documentary director Michael Rapaport mismanaged group’s travel plans. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip Photo: MTV News A Tribe Called Quest say they’re not the bad guys. Two of the four members of the esteemed rap group, Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, recently sat down with MTV News — a third, Jarobi, spoke with us during the sit-down by phone — to elaborate on their issues with the Michael Rapaport-directed documentary , “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest.” Although the film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Phife Dawg was the only ATCQ member to attend. The group did, however, issue a press release at the time expressing their support of the film . According to ATCA, the statement was to help counter any impressions that the group was not involved with the documentary. “We were being made to look like we weren’t a part of the process,” Ali told MTV News. “And we’ve been a part of the process from day one, when we were like, ‘OK, Mike, we cool with you being a director and telling the story of A Tribe Called Quest.’ We’ve always wanted everything to flow from beginning to end in a successful manner. Unfortunately, he was not playing along. There was no script; he had a ‘purpose.’ But it seems like the purpose he delivered to us verbally wasn’t what was being displayed.” Q-Tip then chimed in, citing an MTV News story in which Rapaport expressed disappointment about the full group not being at Sundance, even after the director said he’d allocated money to pay for their travel and lodging. Q-Tip insisted Rapaport “came out of his pocket for $5,000” in order to cover travel expenses for ATCQ and their managers, a figure he implied was particularly low for a week-long stay in Park City, Utah. Moreover, according to Ali, Rapaport misconstrued the situation by failing to reveal certain details. “It’s a deceptive way to tell what really happened,” Muhammad said. “Our management, they’re thorough and they capture things right away. They didn’t need five days to book a ticket; they were on top of it for months to get it covered. Why if he’s being asked the question to take care of the travel of the group that you need their support [for], why wait till the last minute to take care of it?” Ali was not at Sundance because he was on a tour that he told MTV News had been booked three months earlier, a fact that the documentary’s producers were aware of, he said. The ATCQ DJ expressed further dismay about all the promotion being done for a film the group had not properly vetted. “Before we go and do all of that rah-rah, can we even get the film correct?” Muhammad said. “We can’t even have conversations with you and your legal department to take care of other business. Not only can we not do that, we can’t even simplify a travel answer in a reasonable amount of time. It was so disheveled. How could we not be frustrated? But here we are moving forward, trying to be positive about the thing and he’s playing his PR game. At this point, here we are.” Q-Tip also dismissed any notion that he was apprehensive about the film’s content. “He’s out there saying quotes like, ‘I think they’re scared,’ ” Q-Tip said. “He singled me out saying that I was scared because the film was this open thing. I lived it, what am I going to be scared about? There’s not a big reveal in it that I didn’t know. I’m a human being, these are my brothers. What am I fearful about?” However, Q-Tip did express concern that the film might be imbalanced due to lack of context. After viewing a first edit of the film, Q-Tip, Ali, Rapaport and others went over the material to make suggestions. “After we worked on the edit I was like, ‘Yo, Mike, see? This is good. That’s how we supposed to do,’ ” Q-Tip recalled. ” ‘You still got your stuff, we got our stuff.’ We went over it, it’s great.” According to Q-Tip, Rapaport flew back to Los Angeles to implement the changes and piece the documentary together. But when the group received a second edit, they noticed they weren’t listed as producers on the film. After the group’s management asked that this be corrected, Rapaport admitted that their lack of a “producer” credit was no oversight. “Mike sends an e-mail saying why we shouldn’t be producers,” Q-Tip said. “Because it’s viewed as propaganda [if the featured artists are also producers], it would be biased and the public wouldn’t go for it. That’s what he said.” When MTV News’ Sway asked if they agreed with Rapaport’s reasoning, Jarobi responded, “I don’t buy it because I just watched that ‘Fab Five’ [documentary on ESPN] and Jalen Rose is an executive producer, so it doesn’t make sense to me.” Q-Tip added, “This is hip-hop, this is music, nobody writes the ironclad rules. This is what it is.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: A Tribe Called Quest

Director Jon M. Chu reveals more about the 40 minutes of new footage fans will see this weekend. By Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber in “Never Say Never” Photo: Paramount By now, most citizens of Bieber nation have undoubtedly canceled all weekend plans, purchased advance tickets for the super-size version of “Never Say Never,” and are plotting the most stress-free path toward the multiplex to catch the revamped film’s arrival in 3-D theaters on Friday (February 25). But what exactly will you find up on the big screen when you slip on those purple 3-D glasses just three weeks after the original flick debuted? Team Bieber has promised over half an hour of new Justin-approved video, including fresh performances, footage from pre-release screenings and further glimpses at Justin’s downtime with his pals. That’s a little vague for our liking, so we hit up director Jon M. Chu for some insight into what’s being touted as a “Director’s Fan Cut.” Here are five secrets revealed! There Are 40 Minutes of New Footage, Not 30 In a YouTube video announcement, Chu told fans that the new version would include 30 minutes of new footage. But a subsequent Paramount press release pegged the number at 40 minutes. So which is it? “That was my mistake!” laughed Chu. “I didn’t time it out. I was like, ‘I’ll just say over 30 minutes, and we’ll be good to go. But they timed it and it is 40 minutes. The point is, there’s a crapload of stuff in there. “We originally had a two-and-a-half-hour version of the movie, which we obviously couldn’t release,” he added. “So we started to think about putting stuff back in that didn’t have to do with our story but that we knew people would love.” “Omaha Mall” Is Coming for You This rock/rap tune became a fan favorite after Bieber posted it on YouTube, and the reworked “Never Say Never” will pull back the curtain on the song’s creation for the first time on the big screen. “We see the creation of ‘Omaha Mall’ and how that came to be,” Chu told us. “We also get to see way more baby videos. We sit on a lot more shots, so it’s like you’re sitting with him in the living room, just watching.” Get Ready for Bieber’s Abs “Twilight” fans know what to expect when they hit the multiplex for the first viewing of a franchise film: Taylor Lautner without a shirt on. But Beliebers may have been surprised — and, no doubt, delighted — to sit down for “Never Say Never” and be treated to scene after scene of Justin sans T-shirt. When it comes to the new version, fans should expect even more skin. “I can’t confirm nor deny those reports, but we do what the fans want,” Chu laughed. “If that’s what the fans want, then they’ll get a little bit more. Maybe some abs!” You’ll Truly See What It’s Like to Be Bieber’s Buddy Such is the effect of Bieber Fever that the singer’s friends, Ryan Butler and Chaz Somer, have become stars in their own rights. And while they pop up a bit in the movie, Chu said that fans couldn’t get enough of these two Canadian teens. “Chaz and Ryan have their own followings, and one of the biggest pieces of feedback we got is that fans want more Chaz and Ryan,” the director said. “In this version, we get to see what it’s like to be part of the entourage. We go to their homes in Stratford. People call from all around the world and disrupt their dinners. It’s absolutely insane. They’re superstars.” Hello, “Favorite Girl”! While the re-cut flick introduces 40 minutes of new footage, the overall running time is only 10 minutes longer. So what did Chu cut? He took out Bieber’s lengthy, pre-MSG visit to the doctor, added in new scenes of tickets being given away outside concerts and swapped out some performances that didn’t make it into the original release. “Before we had to make a choice between ‘Favorite Girl’ and ‘Never Let You Go,’ because they’re the same [in-concert] set-up with the heart,” he said. “We couldn’t play both. So this time, we made the choice to have ‘Favorite Girl,’ which is one of my favorite songs that he plays. People are going to love it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . I got a press release for Maria Kanellis’ upcoming perfume line and I had no fucking idea who Maria Kanellis was…but appreciated the fact that the she figured promoting the perfume in her bikini was a better approach than some other more relevant way…cuz being in a bikini gets you noticed, people talk about it, and it wins pervert guys who love bitches in bikinis over, especially when there’s no specific reason for this, other than just being in a bikini… It’s like her genius marketing people were like “so we’ve got a perfume to sell…put her in a bikini”, “we’ve go a car to sell…put her in a bikini ” we’ve got girl scout cookies to sell…put her in a bikini”…. The understand we are mindless and bikini is all we need. Either way, apparently she’s some Former WWE DIVA and was a contestent on Celebrity Apprentice….and apparently these pics are unedited…if they weren’t shot from such obscure angles…I’d be able to tell you if that’s a good thing or not..
