The ESPY Awards were handed out last night in L.A. and the red carpet was sizzling – in no small part thanks to the pair of statuesque blondes below. Lindsey Vonn is not only an Olympic champion skier, but a woman whose provocative Sports Illustrated cover caused quite a stir earlier this year. Basically, she’s the coolest chick alive. Except perhaps for Erin Andrews, the ESPN reporter who enjoyed a little home field advantage last night. They both looked pretty terrific Wednesday, not surprisingly. Bristol Palin: Engaged to Levi Johnston!

Having recently rekindled their romance, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are now engaged – and not just to bolster her mom’s poll numbers this time! “We got engaged two weeks ago,” the daughter of Sarah Palin tells Us Weekly . “It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.” Bristol Palin is 19 and Levi Johnston is 20. They famously called off their previous engagement weeks after welcoming son Tripp in December 2008. After an icy period of estrangement, nasty accusations and PR wars, they reconnected a few months ago while working out custody plans for Tripp. “I really thought we were over,” Levi said. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking, and then we took Tripp for a walk.” Bristol and Levi now and during their previous fake engagement . She says when Levi Johnston left that night, “we didn’t hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: ‘I miss you. I love you.'” “‘I want to be with you again’ … I was in shock.” Perhaps the most amazing part, if you don’t believe this is being embellished to sell magazines of course, is that the former Republican Vice Presidential nominee has been kept in the dark about the youngsters’ plans … until now! Says Bristol: “It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board.” But will she? Sarah and Todd Palin said in a statement: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.” Sounds like a thumbs-up to us … or not? Either way, congratulations to the young couple. We’re happy for them … but still, we gotta ask … Will Bristol and Levi last this time?

True Blood’s Mariana Klaveno on That Sex Scene and How J.J. Abrams Made it Possible

There wasn’t a new episode of True Blood last Sunday, but then again, you probably needed that downtime to decompress from the previous episode’s insane final scene . On a show that commingles sex and violence as a general rule, that last encounter between Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) may have shredded the envelope: testing the limits of vampire-on-vampire hate-sex, Bill twisted Lorena’s head completely around between thrusts — and true to Lorena’s malevolent nature, she loved it. Did Klaveno feel the same way about having to shoot it, though? With True Blood resuming its run this weekend, she called up Movieline to discuss exactly how they made it work, why Lorena just can’t get over Bill, and how J.J. Abrams is inadvertently responsible.

Larry King, Shawn Southwick Cancel Divorce

It seems like only yesterday that Larry King and Shawn Southwick were on the cusp of divorcing amid rumors he was giving it to her sister Shannon Engemann . It was mid-April. Both sides filed divorce papers separately then, and all hope appeared lost … until both filed petitions to dismiss their divorce papers yesterday. The judge needs to sign the papers to dismiss the divorce petitions, but that’s just a formality. The once-feuding pair look like they will stick this out long term. A little surprising, as Shawn’s overdose and possible suicide attempt last month seemed to cast doubt on whether the issues with King were able to be reconciled. The couple, who have two children together, recently reconciled on a trial basis, not long after they filed their divorce papers, but had yet to formally call it off. Now King, who just announced his retirement , has declared an end to the dissolution of his marriage as well. We’re happy to see they’re working things out! Larry King’s eighth marriage may be his last after all! Shawn Southwick has already past all his previous wives by making it to double digits. Great job guys!

CNNMoney.com: ‘Jobless Claims Slide in Latest Week’

This morning CNNMoney.com reports “Jobless claims slide in latest week.”  The article starts: The number of Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment insurance fell last week, according to a government report released Thursday. There were 454,000 initial jobless claims filed in the week ended July 3, down 21,000 from an upwardly revised 475,000 in the previous week, the Labor Department said. A problem with the story is the numbers are, according to the Department of Labor, “seasonally adjusted” with a statistical technique designed to accommodate fluctuations in the job market.  DOL’s release paints a more sobering picture: The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 463,560 in the week ending July 3, an increase of 22,560 from the previous week. Before the Age of Obama, CNNMoney.com explained to its readers the difference between actual and seasonally adjusted numbers.  Six years ago today, in fact, the story was “Jobless claims drop, but… Report shows sharp drop in those filing for benefits, but seasonal factors distort results.” But now, apparently, there’s no need to write about distorted results.  That might put a damper on recovery summer exuberance.  And the mainstream media wouldn’t want to do that.

Jake Pavelka Lashes Out, Vienna Girardi Cries: A Dramatic Interview Ends in Tears

The 4th of July was the previous day, but last night’s Jake Pavelka-Vienna Girardi interview on The Bachelorette may have been the most explosive display. Together for the first time since the Breakup of the Century, the former couple began the segment in (fairly) civilized fashion before things got out of hand. “I’m so mad at you and I’m just disgusted with you,” Jake said. “You are a fame whore, that’s what you are,” Vienna retorted. “You’re a liar is what you are.” So it went. In the climactic scene, Vienna tried to apologize, only to break down after Jake angrily raised his hand, forcefully ordering “Please stop interrupting me.” She began to cry, to which he said, “again I got interrupted.” She then said, “You are the fakest person I have ever met in my life!” and stormed off set. Here’s the pivotal moment … Jake and Vienna Interview Whose side are you on?

Jeffrey Jones Arrested on Sex Offender Charge

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off feels a lot less funny all of a sudden. Jeffrey Jones, the actor best known for playing Principal Ed Rooney in that classic comedy, was arrested last week on a felony charge after he failed to update his registration as a sex offender. Yes, the man that tried to chase down Matthew Broderick’s character in that 1986 movie pleaded no contest to having a 14-year old boy pose seductively for him in 2003. As a result, he was forced to register, visit a counselor and complete five years’ probation. On June 23, Jones was apprehended after he did not renew his California registration within the five days of his previous birthday. It’s the second time the troubled actor has faced an arrest after his initial charges. He failed to inform authorities of a move in 2004. Can we put this guy behind bars now please?!?
