Prince William Promoted to Royal Air Force Captain

Let us now pause from debating Kate Middleton baby bump photos to discuss the simple, undisputed and unrelated fact that Prince William is the man. Not only is he rich, smart, handsome, married to a beautiful girl and a future monarch, but he’s on his way to becoming a decorated serviceman! Two years after joining the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force, the Duke of Cambridge has officially qualified to be an operational captain. William can now lead missions in RAF Sea King helicopters by himself. The 29-year-old recently helped save the lives of Russian seamen whose cargo vessel sank in the Irish Sea last November, co-piloting the aircraft. William’s advancement comes after two years of flying experience and study with C Flight, 22 Squadron at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales. Flight Lieutenant Wales, as he is known in the RAF, “demonstrated the required standards needed for the award of operation captaincy,” his commanding officer said. “Due to the nature of search and rescue operations, the required standards are always set at a very high level. Operational captaincy carries the overarching responsibility for the continued safety of the aircraft, its crew and any casualties.” Wills – way to go man!

‘Men In Black’ Star Will Smith’s Energy Needs To Be ‘Harnessed’

‘While I’d be turned here directing Josh Brolin, Will Smith would be punching me in my kidneys,’ ‘MIB3’ director Barry Sonnenfeld says. By Kara Warner Will Smith in “Men in Black 3” Photo: Columbia Pictures No matter what you love most about the “Men in Black” franchise, the most compelling aspect of the sci-fi/action films — despite all their otherworldly and impressive visual effects — is the charm of their star and all-around likable actor Will Smith as Agent J. The former “Fresh Prince” is known for being a ball of excitable, positive energy on set, but according to “Men in Black 3” director Barry Sonnenfeld, sometimes that energy can get a little dangerous. “Usually, while I’d be turned here directing Josh Brolin, Will Smith would be punching me in my kidneys,” he told MTV News recently. “In fact, at the end of this movie, I went into the hospital because Will had torn my rotator cuff. On ‘Wild Wild West’ he broke my hand in five places, so Will’s gotta have his energy harnessed a little bit, at least when he’s working with me. I don’t think he ever went around punching Michael Mann [who directed Smith in 2001’s ‘Ali’], let me just say that.” We then asked Sonnenfeld if there were any repercussions for Smith with all this on-set abuse. “I told him that if he didn’t stop hitting me that I would direct ‘Men in Black 4’ and hire his son to play young Agent J,” Sonnenfeld joked. “So maybe that will make him calm down a little bit.” It should also be known that Smith’s acting skills were a little rusty when he arrived on set to begin work on “MIB 3,” which required some lighthearted finessing from Sonnenfeld and extra practice from Smith. “On the first day of photography, we filmed Will on a blue-screen stage having to jump down [from the top of the Chrysler building], and what was great about it was that he hadn’t acted in three years and was really bad,” Sonnenfeld recalled of one of his favorite moments during filming. “Luckily, we cut out the bad stuff, but that first take we did after he hadn’t acted in three years, I was sweating because he was no good. After I yelled, ‘Cut!’ Will said, ‘Baz, I can do better! I’m really terrible. I haven’t acted in three years, I’m really rusty!’ And within a day or two, it all worked out fine. But man, it was interesting. You know how they say ‘Once you learn how to ride a bicycle, you never forget?’ Well, Will forgot how to act for the first day or two. Luckily he wasn’t acting with other actors or it would have been really embarrassing.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Men in Black 3.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘American Idol’ Phillip Phillips’ ‘Home’ Scores Huge Debut

Nabbing top-10 spot on Billboard chart, winner’s first single lands second-largest digital-sales week ever for an ‘Idol’ contestant. By John Mitchell Phillip Phillips on “American Idol” Photo: Michael Becker/ FOX Despite ongoing health concerns , things just keep getting better on the professional front for “American Idol” season 11 winner Phillip Phillips . The singer’s debut single, “Home,” is making a splash on the Billboard charts, ringing up a series of history-making debuts for the FOX singing competition. With 278,000 digital downloads, “Home” is the highest-debuting song on this week’s Digital Songs chart, bowing at an impressive #2 behind Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” That number is also large enough to give Phillips the second-best digital-sales week ever for an “Idol” contestant. Only the original “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson, can boast a bigger digital sales week: Her smash “My Life Would Suck Without You” debuted with 280,000 downloads in January 2009. Propelled by such strong sales, Phillips enters the Billboard Hot 100 at #10, making him the first “Idol” in four years to see his victory single reach the top 10. The last was David Cook, whose 2008 “Idol” single “The Time of My Life” entered the chart at #3. The rock-solid debut of “Home” also gives Phillips the biggest sales week of any coronation song since 2003, the year SoundScan began tracking digital-download sales. Billboard notes that two other “Idols” — season two victor Ruben Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken — have actually enjoyed larger opening frames than Phillips, though their numbers came outside the digital format. Aiken’s 2003 season-finale single “This is the Night” moved 393,000 units as a CD single in its debut frame, while Studdard’s “Flying Without Wings” shifted 286,000 discs. Kristen Stewart’s ‘Snow White’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics agree ‘breathtaking imagery’ makes ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ the fairest adaptation of them all. By Fallon Prinzivalli Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal “Snow White and the Huntsman” is not your average fairy tale. The princess is quite capable of saving herself, the prince is vying for Snow’s love with the handsome Huntsman, and the Dark Forest is ever more present than any furry woodland creatures. Director Rupert Sanders created a darker version of the classic story where Snow White gears up for battle against Queen Ravenna , and the evil witch actually has an emotional reason for why she’s killing females to remain young. Kristen Stewart leads the film as the title character, with stunning performances by Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin. Stewart will be one of the many stars in attendance at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, June 3, where she’ll act as a presenter and compete for the Golden Popcorn in the Best Kiss and Movie of the Year categories. Until then, audiences can catch her in action beginning Friday when “Snow White” hits theaters. Read on to find out why critics are calling this the fairest adaptation of all. The Story “Astonishingly beautiful and breathtaking in its brutal imagery, ‘Snow White & the Huntsman’ is thrilling and frightening in equal measure, yet as bereft of satisfying substance as a poisoned apple. Rupert Sanders’ revisionist take on the classic Brothers Grimm fable, the first feature from the respected British commercial director, upends expectations of traditional gender roles while simultaneously embracing what a fairy tale should be. It’s dark and dangerous, vicious and violent. Yes, there are dwarves and adorable, furry woodland creatures but more often, death is a constant threat.” — Christy Lemire, Associated Press The Special Effects “Director Rupert Sanders, with his first feature, has come up with some jaw droppingly beautiful shots, almost tactile in their richness, and uses special effects to enhance that look, rather than just showing off.” — Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic Kristen Stewart “Kristen Stewart is not an obvious choice for Snow White, given her habitual expression of discomfort while striking conventional feminine poses — both in movies and on red carpets. That’s why, of course, she’s right for this Snow White, imprisoned in a tower during puberty and with no regard for her looks: She has integrity, inner beauty. ‘How do I inspire? How do I lead men?’ she asks the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), a grief-stricken drunk who teaches Snow White how to stab her opponents by using the weight of their onrushing bodies against them. She’s not a barrel of laughs, but then, unlike recent fractured fairy tales such as ‘Tangled’ and the campy ‘Mirror Mirror,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ doesn’t have a single (intentional) laugh.” — David Edelstein, New York Magazine The Dwarves “For a while the movie chugs along serviceably. … But then things pick up. How? Three words, as Hemsworth’s character puts it: ‘Oh no. Dwarves.’ Yes, this version does have dwarves, and they’re played by non-dwarf actors who’ve been reduced by special effects, and at least one of those actors hasn’t been in a really big picture in some time. And they are feisty and different and delightful, and their ruminations on their loyalties to the kingdom and the young woman they acknowledge as their rightful queen help shift the picture into high gear, as does a shift from a dark forest to an enchanted wood that packs some of the movie’s most magical visuals.” — Glenn Kenny, MSN Movies The Final Word “Ravenna’s delivery of the poisoned apple to Snow White is brilliantly done, perhaps the movie’s best revisionist moment, but after that the momentum declines sharply. Snow White ‘dies’ and is revived — more mysteriously, and with less emotional impact, than in the Disney film — and then she must lead her rebel troops into battle, delivering a knockoff version of the St. Crispin’s Day inspirational speech from ‘Henry V’ … I’m inclined to conclude that ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ is a vigorous simulacrum of classic fantasy, rather than the real thing. But keep your expectations reasonable, and that’s enough to make it one of the summer’s unexpected delights.” — Andrew O’Hehir, Salon . Etan Patz Case: Pedro Hernandez Arrested For Murder

Pedro Hernandez confessed to murdering Etan Patz yesterday, meaning that after more than three decades, the famous missing persons case may be over. Hernandez, a former corner store worker, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after he confessed to strangling 6-year-old Patz in 1979. “He was remorseful, and I think the detectives thought it was a feeling of relief on his part,” New York police Commissioner Ray Kelly told the media. Incredibly, today, May 25 marks the 33rd anniversary of the disappearance of Etan Patz, who became the nation’s first “milk carton child.” Etan Patz Case: Pedro Hernandez Arrested The case sparked the movement to raise awareness of missing kids. Etan vanished on his way to a New York bus stop, triggering a massive manhunt, but no sign of the little boy had ever been detected. The Etan Patz case returned to the headlines last month when authorities re-launched the search , tearing up the basement of a nearby building. Kelly said a recent tip led investigators to Hernandez , 51, a Maple Shade, N.J., resident with a teenage daughter. The commissioner said: “In the years following Etan’s disappearance, Hernandez had told his family that he had ‘done a bad thing’ and killed a child in New York.” On Wednesday night, Hernandez was questioned in New Jersey and then voluntarily returned with detectives to New York, says Kelly. “He brought them to the scene of the crime, which is now a store that sells eye glasses,” says the commissioner. “Hernandez described to the detectives how he lured young Etan from the school bus stop at West Broadway and Prince Street with the promise of a soda.” “He then led him into the basement of the (store), choked him there, and disposed of the body by putting it into a plastic bag, and placing it into the trash.” At the time, Hernandez was a 19-year-old stock clerk in the business and lived in an apartment nearby, says Kelly. Kelly said investigators arrested Hernandez based on “the fact that he had told his story in the past, and the specificity of what he said in the confession.” Hopefully, as horrible as this is, the family can finally have closure.

50 Cent And DJ Drama Craft Street Music For Lost Tape

‘We actually centered this concept with an idea we created in 2007,’ Fif tells Mixtape Daily of latest in Gangsta Grillz series. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum 50 Cent and DJ Drama’s Lost Tape Photo: G-Unit Main Pick Headliner : 50 Cent and DJ Drama Representing : Queens, New York Mixtape : The Lost Tape Real Spit : When it comes to hip-hop’s increasingly artist-centered mixtape culture, there are no bigger figures than 50 Cent and DJ Drama. On the artist side, Fif changed the way rappers approached the tape game with releases like 50 Cent Is the Future and No Mercy, No Fear, hijacking other rapper’s instrumentals and making them his own. On the DJ side, Drama created the pivotal Gangsta Grillz series, crafting unforgettable tapes for the likes of T.I., Young Jeezy and Fabolous. On Tuesday (May 22), the two mixtape giants united on Gangsta Grillz: The Lost Tape, and fans can download the release on DatPiff and Thisis50.com . “50 is mixtapes. When you think about the mixtape game, you have to credit this man right here,” DJ Drama told Mixtape Daily. “He makes what I consider quality street music. I almost feel like the tape didn’t happen in ’07 because it was meant to happen now.” 50 joked that he was bullied to do the tape by Drama, who represents Atlanta. “It was pressure, it was pressure; I was forced. The boys from the south got big on us. So they came down here to the north and said, ‘Look, man, you gotta roll with Rush,’ ” he said with a smirk. “I fully cooperated and now we got Gangsta Grillz.” Drama and Fif aren’t the only big names on The Lost Tape, though: Eminem makes a brief cameo on “Murder One.” “Ayo Fif, I was thinking, you should go back to doin’ the sh– you used to do,” Em says on an intro to the menacing track where the G-Unit general promises death to his enemies. “Silence, it’s the return of the tyrant/ See him through my third eye with both closed eyelids/ Stand closer to the homey you gonna die with/ Flames come up out the muzzle on the sh– that I spit,” 50 rhymes. In the early aughts, 50 built his reputation by remixing rap songs and adding his own high-powered verses to the familiar hits. He revisits the trend with “Riot” remix , a new take on 2 Chainz’s street banger. On “OJ,” 50 teams with Kidd Kidd, his new signee from New Orleans. The piano-laced track finds Fif and his prot
