Forget having them fight each other (please, Michael Vick ). Pitbulls are much better off at fighting off intruders. In an incredible story from late last month in Virginia, a female pitbull named Lesteye sprung into action when a burglar broke into her family’s home. According to various reports, the canine leaped in front of a shotgun bullet meant for her owner, shattering her shoulder and tearing off soft tissue in the process. The pet had to have its leg amputated as a result of this life-saving move, but once the Atlantic Animal Hospital posted her story on Facebook, something else incredible happened: Donations poured in for the dog’s surgery. Jean Stapleton, a veteran actress best known for her role as Edith Bunker on All in the Family , passed away today. She was 90 years old. The beloved star’s loved ones confirm that Stapleton died of natural causes. The actress appeared opposite Carroll O’Connor (as Archie Bunker) on the iconic sitcom, earning three Emmy Awards in the process. Stapleton’s last major role was in the 1998 comedy You’ve Got Mail , where she portrayed a co-worker of Meg Ryan’s character. She is survived by her son, John, and daughter, Pamela.
Here’s my favorite set of twins, Carla and Melissa Howe , keeping in top shape by taking the stairs instead of the escalator, and coincidentally giving us a great leg show in the process. If you guys didn’t know, the twins love me on Twitter, and their mom does too. So that got me thinking that we should all start a polygamist family together. What do you say, ladies? A fisherman in Belarus was bitten and killed by a beaver this week. All he was doing was trying to take a photo of it, reports said. The man spotted the beaver while fishing with friends at Lake Shestakov, but as he approached to take a photo, the beaver bit him on the thigh. The animal, which can bite through trees, managed to sever an artery in the process, and sadly, the man’s friends couldn’t stop the blood flow. Beaver attacks are not common, though they do occur, usually with rabid beavers, as recently reported in Russia, Virginia and Upstate new York. We would not recommend engaging one under any circumstances.
