Report: Lindsay Lohan Found Unconscious, Taken to Hospital (UPDATED)

Just a week after crashing her car into a truck between filming on her would-be comeback flick Liz & Dick , Lindsay Lohan has reportedly been hospitalized after being found unconscious in her hotel, though her condition is unknown. “ABC7 has learned Lindsay Lohan was taken to hospital after being found unconscious at Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey,” ABC7 reported via Twitter. A follow-up Tweet from the outlet added : “Attorney tells ABC7 that ‘She’s fine.'” Developing… UPDATE: The New York Post has more: “Lohan not hospitalized but paramedics called after entourage couldn’t rouse her from sleep,” the paper Tweeted . And yet more from E! Online , who cites sources who say exhaustion and dehydration were to blame for the incident this morning: “Lindsay has been working a grueling schedule for the last couple of days,” Lindsay’s rep Steve Honig told E! News. “Last night she worked from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. She was exhausted and went back to her room to sleep. Producers were apparently concerned and called the fire department and paramedics found her sleeping but determined that she was fine, just extremely exhausted and slightly dehydrated. “She is on her way home now to rest and will be back on set later today.” He added that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. And TMZ , chiming in with the details: We’re told Lindsay wasn’t feeling well after complaining of exhaustion, she called someone from the Liz and Dick production team early this morning, and the team sent a private doctor to check on her. Before arriving, the doctor called the hotel and asked someone to check on Lindsay. Someone from the hotel went to her door, “checked on her” and determined she was “unresponsive.” The hotel then called 911. Lindsay’s rep says it was someone from the production team who called 911. Paramedics responded, and determined nothing was wrong with Lindsay. They left without transporting her to the hospital. Well, good. Sounds like a case of overblown media reportage, but the lesson here is this: If people around Lohan are so concerned that heavy sleep might be construed as unresponsiveness — and if Lohan’s working herself to the point of exhaustion, given her history — maybe the false alarm fuss should be taken as a warning, to Lohan, her team, and to those watching along at home. Nobody wants to see Lohan go out like Marilyn.

Joe Gendreau on The Bachelorette Elimination: Just Too Different From Emily

Joe Gendreau’s time to impress Emily Maynard expired this week. Reflecting on the non-love connection that earned him a rare one-on-one date boot on The Bachelorette Monday, he said it just didn’t work out. Nothing scandalous or incendiary about it. Just didn’t click. “I tried to keep the rose out of mind. I didn’t want to look at it as a challenge and be like, ‘I really want that rose,'” Gendreau said. “I wanted to see how my time was with her and entertain the idea of being able to hit it off with her.” “I thought it was going well, but ultimately didn’t work out. We really didn’t hit it off with each other. We are in different places in our lives.” “I’m a single, free-spirited individual. Emily, she is looking for someone more settled and committed to family and work.” To that effect, Joe’s “five-year-plan” seemed to be his undoing. “I said, ‘I want to be happy with no regrets’ in five years … I think she was more looking for more detail like, ‘I want to be here with these many kids.'” “I didn’t take offense. She’s determined in what she wants and she didn’t see that in me. I answered truthfully. That’s me being myself.” “I was not closed-minded about it. I want to have kids and marriage in my life one day, [but] I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.” “Whether she made the right decision is on her. After she made her mind up, I was content to move on. I was really happy with everything.” “We just didn’t click. She was very sweet, and I wish her the best.” As for who he thinks Emily Maynard’s ends up with in the end? “My money’s on Jef. He seems like a great guy, a caring individual, and he’s got some money. I’m sure that’s going to put me in a doghouse,” he said. “Arie and Sean will stick around too. And maybe Doug, the guy who got the first impression rose. They’re solid good guys, good character.” Sounds like someone’s been reading The Bachelorette spoilers … or watching the first two episodes on TV. That’s all we’ll say for now.

Britney Spears’ X Factor Contract Lets Her Leave Whenever She Wants, Report Claims

An interesting explanation of Britney Spears walking off The X Factor set Thursday has emerged in a new report on TMZ: She did because she can. The show wanted Spears so badly, they literally gave away the candy store … well not literally, although she could probably buy a candy store. With a deal paying her $15 million for one season, Britney is raking it in, and that’s not even all. Her contract basically gives her carte blanche. Spears has the right to do things during production that are not “normal,” insiders say, and that includes taking breaks whenever she feels like it . As one source put it, “Simon is a shrewd businessman who knew Britney could make his show and he was willing to give her just about anything.” Guess so. And hey, look at us talking about The X Factor in May! Yesterday, Britney walked off the set during the very first taping, leaving behind an empty judge’s chair while four contestants did their thing. Sources connected with the production say Britney was “overwhelmed” and left. She sort of denied this on Twitter, but would anyone be surprised? People who were at the taping claim she was upset by the audience reacting negatively to some of her comments, then abruptly peaced out. Howard Stern’s right. This could be a train wreck . But highly-rated! [Photo: WENN.com]

Scary Movie 5 Targets Black Swan, Ditches Anna Faris

So there’s good news and bad news regarding Scary Movie 5 . The bad news is… well, there is a Scary Movie 5 . The good news? Anna Faris has reportedly exercised her option and/or good judgment to step away from the ever-deteriorating franchise. And then there’s this, which could go either way depending on your taste: The new installment reportedly intends to spoof Black Swan . Like, the whole thing . Know the Artist tweeted a referral to this casting call, which disclosed the basic plot as such: The story in Scary Movie 5 involves the dance world, with a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French director of a dance company named Pierre putting on a huge production. Jody, a Caucasian late-20’s mother of two and her late-20’s African American friend Kendra are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30’s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry, gets cut from the production and goes berserk. The studio had been very interested in bringing back some of the series’ original cast members, but there’s no word on where that plan stands now. Insiders have said that the film has been completely retooled and will hire a brand new cast. That would not be a surprise considering the casting directors are “seeking a comedic leading lady with the ability to play comedy in a grounded dramatic style”. Faris is more than capable of that last part, though the actress disclosed at this week’s Dictator press junket that it won’t be her: “I don’t think I’m going to do it. I don’t think I’m part of that. I don’t know exactly what’s happening with it, but I hear it’s sort of in the works and stuff.” Womp woooomp . Or wait — huzzah! You tell me. Is Two Can Play That Game the Original Think Like a Man?

While Think Like A Man may have conquered the domestic box office two weekends in a row – an impressive feat for what Hollywood execs refer to as an “urban comedy” – there’s no question that the film’s success is as much due to the popular self-help book on which it is based as it is to its comedic merits. Roger Ebert hit the nail on the head in his review , remarking: “The movie’s mistake is to take the book seriously. This might have worked as a screwball comedy or a satire, but can you believe for a moment in characters naive enough to actually live their lives following Steve Harvey’s advice?” The funny thing is that the screwball version film Ebert would have liked to see actually exists — and is infinitely superior to the more dramatic, contemporary incarnation. That film is Two Can Play That Game , Mark Brown’s hilarious entry in the battle-of-the-sexes subgenre. A distant descendant of true screwballs (most notably The Awful Truth , which depicts a recently divorced couple’s attempts to derail one another’s new romances), Two Can Play That Game is, like Think Like A Man , anchored by a character explaining dating rules and philosophy to the audience. However, in this film that character actually has skin in the game – in fact, she’s its heroine: Shante Smith (Vivica A. Fox) is an ad agency exec who dispenses advice to the audience (and her girlfriends) about her seemingly perfect “Ten Day Program” for keeping a straying boyfriend in check; when her own boyfriend Keith (Morris Chestnut) begins to stray, a battle of wits ensues. The Kevin Hart comedic-sidekick role is played here by Anthony Anderson, as Keith’s relationship consigliore. Anderson knocks the role out of the park, with a performance that easily steals the entire film. It’s true that the most dramatic moments of Think Like A Man – when the characters try to level with each other and Own Up To Their Mistakes – are the moments in which it feels the most deadened. Two Can Play That Game , alternatively, embraces its absurdity; like its finest performance, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. In one scene, when Anderson seconds the points Keith makes by shouting as if he’s at church, an organ and chorus suddenly appear on the soundtrack to emphasize the revelations the men are coming to about women. The film, at various points, informs us that the first law of thermodynamics explains how best to manipulate your partner; has Vivica A. Fox punch Gabrielle Union in the face; and, in the funniest scene, puts forth the theory that church is a better place to pick up promiscuous women than a nightclub. And while the film understands that it’s a light comedy, it’s not lacking for bombast. “This is way bigger than you,” Anderson tells Chestnut late in the film. “You’re doing this for all men across the country. You’re doing this for men all around the world!” With increasingly deranged anxiety, Anderson goes off the rails: “Pretty soon women are gonna be pulling these head trips on us, dog, and you know what’s gonna happen? We’re gonna be the ones cooking dinner! We’re gonna be the ones changing the diapers! We’re gonna be the ones washing the dishes! And you know what they’re gonna be doing? They’re gonna be sitting on our couches, watching football on our Sunday!” Between putting forth the misguided belief that people need to engage in psychological warfare to keep their partners in line and the propagation of all kinds of stereotypes and clichés, no one’s going to accuse either of these movies of responsibly depicting gender relations. But when choosing one to watch, a viewer is well-advised to pick a film that is fully aware of – and complicit in – its own absurdity. Zachary Wigon is a writer based in New York. His work has appeared in the New York Press, NYLON, and Filmmaker Magazine, among many other outlets. He tweets @zachwigon .

It’s Not Just The Avengers: Check Out This Weekend’s Other Theatrical Openers

Cinco de Mayo weekend will surely belong to Marvel’s The Avengers , which has already racked up $18.7 million in U.S. grosses courtesy of last night’s midnight screenings. The superhero filled adventure has been pegged as possibly this year’s biggest box office draw — time will tell . But for those who want to check out something else besides superheroes (or want to resuscitate from its aftermath) there are plenty of specialty releases opening this weekend including Fox Searchlight’s India-set The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel , Sundance Selects’ dance doc First Position , ATO’s water doc Last Call at the Oasis , Kathleen Turner starrer The Perfect Family . And, if you need a little more Samuel L. Jackson in your life post- Avengers , check out his other opener Meeting Evil . Marvel’s The Avengers (Opening Wide) Director: Joss Whedon Writers Zak Penn (story), Joss Whedon (story and screenplay), Stan Lee (comic book), Jack Kirby (comic book) Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson Destined to be the big box office draw of 2012 (so far), Marvel’s The Avengers features a “Super Hero team of a lifetime. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow battle an enemy that threatens global safety. The director of the international peacekeeping agency – S.H.I.E.L.D. – assembles the team to save the world from certain disaster. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (Limited Release) Director John Madden Writers: Ol Parker (screenplay), Deborah Moggach (novel) Cast: Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith Distributor: Fox Searchlight The feature revolves around a group of British retirees who move to India to “outsource” their retirement in a less expensive but exotic locale. They’re drawn by advertisements to the newly refurbished Marigold Hotel, but arrive to find it less than they envisioned. Less luxurious than they had oped, they’re nevertheless transformed by their shared experience, “discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.” Marigold shot in October 2010 in India, which producer Graham Broadbent described as an “extraordinary, bewildering place.” They arrived with a small crew from the U.K., which was met by a massive team from India during their 45-day stay. “There were 350 people in the crew,” said Broadbent. “In the U.K. we’d expect maybe 120.” First Position (Limited Release) Director: Bess Kargman Subjects: Aran Bell, Gaya Bommer Yemini, Michaela Deprince Distributor: Sundance Selects Check out Movieline’s exclusive clip from First Position : (http://movieline.com/2012/05/04/first-position-clip-whats-it-take-to-be-a-boy-in-ballet-exclusive/) The doc is an inspirational look at six ballet dancers ages 9 to 19 who sacrifice physically and emotionally on their way to one of the most prestigious youth ballet competitions in the world. First Position takes a year-long look at children around the world who strive to master an art form despite the odds. “We fell in love with these kids who are striving to do their best with the pressures they’re facing,” Sundance Selects exec Ryan Werner said about the film. His company picked up the title at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and since then it has won awards at Doc NYC and at festivals in Portland, Dallas and San Francisco. Also sure to give the doc a push is the fact that one of its characters is on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars . Nightline and Good Morning America are doing stories on the film. First Position is available on demand and will open in theaters in New York and L.A. this weekend. “We’re actively pursuing the dance community as we did for [our other recent dance doc] Pina, but also people who are interested in a ‘great story.'” Last Call At The Oasis Director: Jessica Yu Writer: Jessica Yu Subjects: Erin Brockovich-Ellis, Jay Famiglietti, Peter H. Gleick Distributor: ATO Pictures in partnership with Participant Media This doc is a wakeup call about the worldwide water crisis. Featuring activists Erin Brockovich and others, the film exposes how water will become one of the biggest challenges society will face this century and offers up solutions. Selling a documentary about the world’s looming water crisis may be a tough sell at best. But there are potential solutions to drum up interest at low to no cost and the film’s distributor has been working those avenues. Director Jessica Yu joined a packed house at the Ford Foundation in Manhattan last month for a screening of the film which kicked off the 4th annual “Envision” conference, which focuses on issues relating to a “sustainable future,” co-hosted by the U.N. and the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). “Part of the publicity is reaching out to NGOs,” said ATO Pictures co-president Jonathan Dorfman. “And [partner] Participant ( An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman ) has a lot of great relationships with those groups…They deliver on the docs.” ATO first saw the film last year in Toronto and were impressed by its quality and the highly regarded people who appear in the feature. “There are serious experts like Erin Brokovich and others who know [a lot] about this,” noted Dorfamn who added that the famed environmental advocate made famous by Julia Roberts portrayal of her back in 2000 will be heading to Los Angeles post-screening Q&As at the Landmark on Friday and has also been doing press to promote the film. Meeting Evil (Limited Release) Director: Chris Fisher Writers: Thomas Berger (novel), Chris Fisher Cast: Luke Wilson, Samuel L. Jackson, Leslie Bibb, Peyton List It’s not just The Avengers actor Samuel L. Jackson has going on this weekend, he’s also starring in this weekend’s crime thriller, Meeting Evil . The film centers on John (Luke Wilson) a depressed suburban family man who is recently unemployed. After he stops to help a stranger with his car, he’s forced into a surreal murder-filled ride that forces him to confront everything about his life. The Perfect Family Director: Anne Renton Writers: Paula Goldberg, Claire V. Riley Cast: Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter Religious mom Eileen Cleary (Kathleen Turner) is nominated for the coveted Catholic Woman of the Year Award at her local parish, but she has one challenge – her non-conformist family. Her gay daughter Shannon (Emily Deschanel) want to marry her partner and her unhappily married son Frank Jr. (Jason Ritter) is hooking up with a local manicurist. Meanwhile, her own marriage to a recovering alcoholic is less than ideal. With a budget of less than $1 million and a script, they turned to actress Kathleen Turner for the main role. “We were trying to put together as good of a cast as we possibly could to maximize attention and press,” producer Cora Olson said. After implementing some script changes Turner requested Olson and her producing partner Jennifer Dubin reached out to Emily Deschanel who they knew socially to join the cast and they also sought out Jason Ritter, who worked on their previous project Good Dick, which they also produced and released. The Perfect Family shot 19 days in Los Angeles, which she said ran pretty smoothly. “Jen and I have done a lot of these types of films and it’s important to get crews who understand this kind of schedule,” she said. The film debuted last year at Tribeca and Present Pictures has partnered with Variance Pictures for the theatrical release. Remembering Adam Yauch: The 9 Best Films/Videos Directed by Beastie Boys’ MCA

The late Adam Yauch made history as Beastie Boys rapper MCA, but he also leaves behind a rich legacy in filmmaking: Recall his work helming a number of the trio’s music videos (as Nathaniel Hörnblowér), releasing envelope-pushing (and Oscar-nominated) documentaries and features via his production/distribution label Oscilloscope Labs, and directing his own acclaimed films, notably the 2006 concert doc Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! . Take a look back at Yauch’s work behind the camera, with and without fellow Beasties Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz, as Movieline runs down the 9 best films and videos he made as a director. “Shadrach” (1989) Live performance footage was rotoscoped over resulting in the gorgeous and surreal hand-painted music video for “Shadrach,” off the Beasties’ second studio album, Paul’s Boutique . “So What’cha Want” (1992) Mike D, Ad-rock, and MCA traipse the woods as rapping, destructive forces of nature in one of my favorite Beastie Boys videos, made eerily sinister (and strangely perfect) by photo negative effects and speed-tweaked lip synching. “Intergalactic” (1998) A tribute to/send-up of Japanese kaiju monster movies and one of the best music videos of all time. “Body Movin’” (1998) More film nerdery from MCA — “Body Movin'” as parody of the Dino De Laurentiis-produced Italian cult spy flick Danger Diabolik . “Three MCs and One DJ” (1999) A loving nod to DJ Mix Master Mike, who marked his first Beastie Boys collaboration on 1999’s Hello Nasty ; without him around to drop the beat, our MCs are frozen and helpless.

Hi Hater: Theraflu Says Yeezy’s New Song Makes Them Sick!!!

Theraflu Releases Statement Saying They Do Not Endorse Or Approve Of Kanye West’s References To Product In New Song Kanye West may end up in hot water with some cold medicine… Theraflu has issued a statement over Kanye’s latest “masterpiece” which was named after the brand. According to TMZ reports : A company rep tells TMZ, “We in no way endorse or approve of the references or use of the image and likeness of Theraflu in this manner.” Kanye named the song after the cold medicine because he’s so cold to his enemies they need a big dose. As you probably know by now, the song reveals Kanye’s love for his new GF, Kim Kardashian. Theraflu reps did not say they would sue the singer, but their statement includes buzz words — image and likeness — that are often used in legal proceedings. And this is priceless. In the statement, the Theraflu rep adds, “Theraflu is an over-the-counter product used to help relieve cold and flu symptoms that millions of consumers rely on.” We doubt Theraflu will actually sue Ye, it sounds more like they just wanted an extra opportunity to pitch their product.
