Project Runway Recap: Bridesmaids Revisited

For last year’s Project Runway bridal challenge , I called my recap “Brides’ Dress Revisited,” and I see no reason this pun can’t be re-spun and employed again. Congrats to laziness! While we didn’t bear witness to another of Gretchen’s Medusa explosions last night, we did watch as Ivy polished her fangs and hissed to everyone in a 15-mile radius that Michael C. called her a smelly jackass (or something else made up?). Let’s break down all the stupidity using our favorite instrument: Mean jokes.

Project Runway Castoff Peach Carr Talks to Movieline About the Contestant Who ‘Broke Her Spirit’

Peach Carr, the Project Runway contestant eliminated in last night’s episode, was the eldest and funniest member of the season eight cast, so it’s disheartening to hear that one of her fellow competitors said something disparaging about her personal life that “broke her spirit” before the bridesmaid challenge. Carr talked to us this morning about her fabric choices, her friendship with April, and the remark that left her brokenhearted.

Tim Gunn Talks to Movieline About Project Runway, Confronting Gretchen, and Crossdressing J. Edgar Hoover

Project Runway ‘s addictive drama hinges on the appearance of Tim Gunn, the competing designers’ mentor who adds doses of advice, wit, and professorial integrity to the workroom. Movieline caught up with Gunn to discuss his new book Gunn’s Golden Rules (and that chapter about J. Edgar Hoover’s Vivian Vance drag ), “crackpipe”-smoking judges, and even his favorite film scene of all time.

REVIEW: Noodle Shop Stays Close to Coen Brothers Source, But Not Close Enough

An unlikely, unwieldy transplant of the Coen brothers classic Blood Simple to an indeterminate, dynastic domain of China, Zhang Yimou’s A Woman, A Gun and A Noodle Shop follows its master with the tumbling, untroubled constancy of a puppy. There is novelty in Zhang’s fidelity to the blackly circumstantial clockwork of the Coens’ neo-noir plotting, set here in the phantasmagoric realm of a wuxia opera. There also emerges a nagging glibness that regularly gets the best of some inspired filmmaking. In its most tiresome moments, Noodle Shop overestimates the wit of its formal exertions, and feels less like a film than an exercise that will leave fans of the original comparatively cold.

Did Tim Gunn Meet J. Edgar Hoover Dressed in Drag as Vivian Vance?

Project Runway ‘s most indispensable fashion guru, Tim Gunn, may have interacted with FBI head J. Edgar Hoover at his most “stylish” moment, shall we say. Gunn, whose father George William Gunn was Hoover’s ghostwriter in the ’50s and ’60s, speculates in his upcoming book Tim Gunn: Gunn’s Golden Rules that he met Hoover once when he was dressed as I Love Lucy legend Vivian Vance. To read the startling, not-so-Desilu details, carry on through.

The Emmy Awards: Predicting The Winners

‘Lost,’ ‘Glee’ poised to win big during Sunday night’s telecast. By Kara Warner Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays in “Glee” Photo: FOX The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards take place on Sunday night (August 29), which means there’s still time to speculate over who will take trophies home from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Fan favorites Betty White and Neil Patrick Harris have already snagged Emmys — which stars and shows will round out this year’s winners list? Here’s a look at our picks. Outstanding Drama Series It seems that the likely winner here is “Lost,” which ended with a much buzzed-about bang — an estimated 13.5 million viewers tuned into the May 23 series finale . “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” could also pull out a victory, but Emmy newbie “True Blood” is a long shot. Outstanding Lead Actor And Lead Actress In A Drama Series Fans and critics alike rejoiced at the recognition for “Friday Night Lights” actors Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, but they will have steep competition from previous winners like Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad,” Hugh Laurie of “House”, Glenn Close of “Damages” and Mariska Hargitay of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Cranston is the likely winner in the Actor category, while Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife” is a strong favorite for the Actress award. Outstanding Supporting Actor And Supporting Actress In A Drama Series The likely winners here are Terry O’Quinn for “Lost” and Christina Hendricks for “Mad Men.” Outstanding Comedy Series “Glee” has come out of its first season riding a wave of popularity and hype that landed it . But does the show have enough to beat out perennial favorites “The Office” and “30 Rock” and fend off competition from the other newcomer in this category, “Modern Family”? This is a tough one to call. Outstanding Lead Actor And Lead Actress In A Comedy Series “Glee” stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele have very tough competition in their respective categories. “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin has won two Emmys for his portrayal of network exec Jack Donaghy. Baldwin’s co-star Tina Fey is also in the running, as are “Nurse Jackie” star Edie Falco, who won the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series three times for her work on “The Sopranos,” and leader of “The Office” Steve Carell. Outstanding Supporting Actor And Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series As beloved as Chris Colfer is on “Glee,” he’s a long shot against his seasoned competition, which includes “How I Met Your Mother” scene-stealer Harris and Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family.” Jane Lynch is a lock to take Supporting Actress for her work on “Glee”; the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences likely engraved her name on the trophy when nominations were announced. Outstanding Reality — Competition Program Perennial Emmy favorite “The Amazing Race” will likely beat out ratings juggernauts “American Idol” and “Dancing With The Stars.” “Project Runway” and “Top Chef” are also up for honors. Who do you think will take home Emmys on Sunday night? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos The Year In ‘Glee’
