Mac Miller, Pharrell Making A ‘Political Statement’ On Pink Slime?

‘That sounds tight. What the f— is ‘pink slime’?,’ Miller said when Pharrell suggested the name for his EP. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rya Backer Mac Miller Photo: MTV News During Mac Miller ‘s recent visit to “RapFix Live,” he dropped some hints about his upcoming EP Pink Slime. But now the cat’s out of the bag as it’s been revealed that Pharrell will co-pilot the project. MTV News caught up with Miller at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee, where he chatted about recording with Skateboard P and dreaming up the EP’s title. The Pittsburgh rapper released the first Pink Slime single, “Onaroll,” on June 5 and performed it for the first time at Bonnaroo just a few days later. Before hitting the stage, he opened up about the collaborative project, admitting that he was nervous to record with Pharrell at first. “Pharrell is a very creative person with everything he does,” Mac said, detailing one of their recording sessions. “We did this one record called ‘Dreams,’ and he was like, ‘I’ma rap on this.’ So he goes outside for 20 minutes and he just comes back, gets in the booth and raps. I don’t know what he did in those 20 minutes, but he just went out and came back in with no paper, no anything, and just had a verse ready.” As far as the name of the project, that was Pharrell’s brainchild as well. “It was his idea. I was at a loss for names,” Mac admits. “I was on tour and I was talking to him and he’s like, ‘I got the name — it’s Pink Slime. ‘ I was like, ‘That sounds tight. What the f— is “pink slime”?’ He’s like, ‘Pink slime is the fake meat they use at McDonald’s,’ and I was like, ‘Cool, man.’ ” From there, the Blue Slide Park rapper got a little bit silly about the deeper meaning in the title. “The meaning is that there is so much filth and ammonia in the world and we’re just speaking on how we need to clean up the environment,” he joked. “The message is … we pay for a Big Mac, maybe give me some good beef in there. It’s really a political statement we’re making.” There’s no confirmed release date for Pink Slime just yet. Related Artists Mac Miller Pharrell Williams

The Informers Scribe Bret Easton Ellis Appoints Himself Hollywood’s Porn King [PIC]

When author, screenwriter and semi-official chronicler of LA’s nightlife scene Bret Easton Ellis speaks, Hollywood listens. Or at least Lindsay Lohan does. Ellis has cast Lohan alongside real-life porn star James Deen in his new movie The Canyons , starring Deen as Christian, a ” handsome, fit power player and major manipulator ” who ” enjoys setting up three-ways and filming them .” Lindsay will be playing Tara, a former model who ” has sold her pride for the material comforts [Christian] can provide, ” and while sadly the movie is not an out-and-out porno, hopefully acting alongside the guy known as “the Ryan Gosling of porn” will compel Lindsay to expose her peaks and valleys. Ellis leaked the news over Twitter yesterday, tweeting ” Shooting THE CANYONS starring James Deen and Lindsay Lohan: July 9-31 in L.A. Could not have dreamed of a better cast. Lindsay nailed it… ” Let’s hope she continues to nail it when the cameras are rolling, if you know what we mean. And high off of the success of his latest announcement, Ellis has now started recruiting via Twitter for the movie version of 50 Shades of Grey despite not having any official connection to the project. So far he’s volunteered himself (naturally) as screenwriter and proposed a motley crew that includes Emmy Rossum , Lena Dunham , Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart as potential stars for the torrid S&M fantasy tale. So in other words, if you want to appoint yourself the porn king of Hollywood, all you need is a Twitter account and a lot of chutzpah. Writing the novels that Less Than Zero , American Psycho , The Rules of Attraction , and The Informers (see them here at MrSkin.com) were based on probably helps too. But we’re banking on the chutzpah. To Twitter!

One Direction To Star In 3-D Concert Film?

Reports have 1D attached to a 3-D flick set to hit theaters next November, though details on the project are scarce. By James Montgomery One Direction Photo: Uptin Saiidi/MTV News Coming soon to a theater near you (maybe): It’s 1D … in 3-D! Yes, according to a report in the British newspaper The Sun, One Direction are set to star in an eye-popping 3-D film that is slated to begin filming next year. Which means that very soon, 1D obsessives will be able to plumb the depths of Harry’s dimples, explore the peaks of Niall’s mane or slalom down Zayn’s cheekbones … all in three very life-like dimensions. Of course, the plot of the film (as if it really matters) has yet to be determined, with The Sun reporting that it may either be a scripted comedy — “a camper in the style of old Monkees films,” is how a source put it — or a documentary, featuring clips of the too-cute quintet in concert. “It’s early days, but it’s something that their management and label are excited about,” the source is quoted as saying. “All options are open, though they’re unlikely to get cracking on shooting it until next year.” The still untitled (and unscripted) 1D film will reportedly hit theaters on November 8, 2013, and it is intended to be an answer to Justin Bieber’s massively successful 3-D flick “Never Say Never,” which surpassed Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” to become the biggest concert film in U.S. history last year. “U.S. film experts are speculating that the 1D film would be similar to Justin’s movie and will be a big money-spinner for the boys,” the source told The Sun. Just how big of a, uh, “money-spinner” remains to be seen, though The Sun reported that the One Direction guys stand to make as much as &163;10 million ($15 million) each from the film. Of course, there’s still no official word on the project, and a spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Would you see 1D in 3-D? ‘Catching Fire’ Finnick Fever: Casting Rumors Heat Up!

‘Hunger Games’ sequel reportedly eyeing Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund for the role; let’s take a closer look. By Fallon Prinzivalli Armie Hammer Photo: Getty Images Fans have been rallying behind their favorite actors to star in “The Hunger Games” since the books were released. The most popular character to speculate about is Finnick Odair, who makes his debut in the franchise’s second novel, “Catching Fire.” With the movie set to begin filming in the fall, rumors have been flying surrounding who will land the role of the dreamy District 4 victor. Most recently, Robert Pattinson was linked to the part , and even though fans supported him, he quickly denied those rumors. With countless actors’ names tossed into the casting hat, there’s speculation that the film may be down to its final three choices for Finnick. E! Online reports a source who revealed the top guys in the running are “Battleship” star Taylor Kitsch , “The Social Network” actor Armie Hammer and “TRON: Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund . When MTV News reached out to Lionsgate for confirmation, we received this statement: “Like the first film, Lionsgate won’t be commenting on any of the rumors until we officially announce.” Alongside “Bridesmaids,” “The Hunger Games” is the most-nominated film at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards landing eight nods including Best Kiss, Best Cast and the coveted Movie of the Year. Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for Best Actress, Josh Hutcherson is up for Best Actor and Liam Hemsworth has a shot at Breakthrough Performance. There’s still time to vote for your favorite stars before the awards air this Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET by heading over to MovieAwards.MTV.com . So while we wait to see which film is your favorite and which leading man is joining this incredible cast of stars, we thought we’d take a look at the good and bad of each actor landing the role of Finnick. Taylor Kitsch The Good : If you’ve seen “Friday Night Lights,” you know Kitsch’s ability to play a self-assured character. As womanizer Tim Riggins, he certainly knows how to gaze at a lady until she swoons. Finnick exudes the same arrogant charm — though he’s more of a one-woman man. At one point in “Catching Fire,” he reads a poem to the citizens of the Capitol dedicated to his one true love, and many of the audience members faint, believing it’s about them. Kitsch certainly has that same charisma to capture viewers’ attention. The Bad : Kitsch’s huge roles aren’t gaining him any box-office success. After Disney shelled out $250 million on the epic “John Carter,” it raked in only $30.6 million domestically its first weekend in theaters. Similarly, he headed up Peter Berg’s “Battleship,” which was released in theaters May 18 and currently has a 34 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While he’d be a supporting character to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss, he may need the success of the franchise more than the franchise needs him. Armie Hammer The Good : Like Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, Hammer played a vital role in a film nominated for Best Picture at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. With “The Social Network” under his belt, he’d fit right in with Lawrence, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Winter’s Bone,” and Hutcherson, whose film “The Kids Are All Right” was also nominated for Original Screenplay. He can hold his own in the spotlight and already understands the fame that comes with a wildly popular film. If the casting directors continue on their award-winning path, choosing Hammer is a no-brainer. The Bad : His tight schedule may conflict with “The Hunger Games” when it begins filming. He’s currently working on “The Lone Ranger” with Johnny Depp and is already linked to three other films with tentative 2013-14 release dates: “By Virtue Fall,” “Cut Bank” and “2:22.” Since this role is so important to fans, they won’t want an actor who may not be able to devote 100 percent to the project. Garrett Hedlund The Good : Hedlund recently made his way to the Cannes Film Festival, where he debuted his film “On the Road” alongside “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart. While the film itself received mixed reviews , Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly singled out Hedlund’s acting, writing, “The best thing in the movie is Garrett Hedlund’s performance as Dean Moriarty. … [He] is as hunky as the young Brad Pitt, and like Pitt, he’s a wily, change-up actor. He gives Dean eyes that glitter with a seductive enthusiasm that borders on being a little cracked.” Did that last sentence also instantly remind you of Finnick, “Hunger Games” fans? The Bad : While he’s been fairly successful in films like “Country Strong” and “Four Brothers,” he hasn’t had enough roles allowing him to prove his abilities to take on such a large project. The role of Finnick may shock him a bit, especially considering the fame that’s sure to come along with it. But then again, he could always ask Stewart for advice. While we wait to hear who will officially be taking on the role of Finnick, catch your favorite “Hunger Games” actors at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Hunger Games’

Janet Jackson Producing Documentary On Transgender Community

‘Truth’ will look at struggles of transgender people around the world. By Gil Kaufman Janet Jackson Photo: MTV News Janet Jackson has spent her career bouncing from TV to music and movies, but now the R&B legend is moving into the producing game. According to the The Advocate , Jackson has agreed to executive-produce a documentary called “Truth” about the lives of transgender people around the world. Not only is Jackson, 46, working behind-the-scenes on the movie, but she is expected to sit for some on-camera interviews as well. The movie will start filming this summer. In a statement announcing the film, Jackson said she agreed to sign on to help stop discrimination against the transgender community. “All people are very important to me. I’ve been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives,” Jackson said in a statement. ” ‘Truth’ is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same. We want to stop the hate and find understanding.” Director Robert Jason, who previously directed the Style Network documentary “Style Exposed: Born Male, Living Female,” about four transgender New Yorkers, promised that Jackson will play a prominent part in the finished product. “Janet Jackson will take us on a visually innovative, cerebral journey through the turbulent lives of transgendered people of all ages around the world and their epic struggle for equality,” he said in a statement announcing the project. “This film will highlight landmark mainstream stories and provide a glimpse at others that will change the gender landscape of the world forever. Just as it is hard to believe that there ever was a time when different components of society were required to use separate drinking fountains, it is as incredible that one’s gender expression remains just such a target for discrimination.” Jackson’s involvement in the documentary comes on the heels of last month’s news that Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has come out as transgender
and is now living as a woman, Laura Jane Grace. Gabel became the most high-profile major-label musician to undergo a gender transformation. Related Artists Janet Jackson

Snow White and the Huntsman Reigns Atop Box Office; What Did You Watch?

Brava to the dewy-cheeked Kristen Stewart , who opened Snow White and the Huntsman , the weekend’s number one movie, by swinging a sword and championing girl power without having to kiss a single vampire! (Those two hunky human suitors and the riveting fabulosity that was Charlize Theron didn’t hurt either.) Nice to see girls ruling while boys drooled over the box office — well, their male-driven movies ( Men in Black 3 , Avengers , Battleship ), anyway. Tell us what you saw this weekend as we go to the receipts! 1. Snow White and the Huntsman Gross: $56,255,000 (new) Screens: 3,773 (PSA: $14,910) Weeks: 1 Well, well, well. Stewart’s first big non- Twilight movie made a strong showing over the weekend, outdoing Men in Black 3 ’s debut with the one-two-three punch of KStew, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron. Coming in with the fourth biggest opening of the year, the dark fairytale soared on dazzling visuals even if audiences only gave it a “B” CinemaScore rating. 2. Men in Black 3 Gross: $29,300,000 ($112,300,000) Screens: 4,248 (PSA $6,897) Weeks: 2 (Change: -46.3%) Foreign tallies will help Will Smith and Co. get over their 46.3 percent drop-off – even at only $112 million domestically, the sci-fi threequel has topped $386 million globally, and counting. Still, it’s not quite time to get MIB4 in gear, seeing as the reported production budget was a whopping $225 million alone. 3. The Avengers Gross: $20,273,000 ($552,737,000) Screens: 3,670 (PSA: $5,524) Weeks: 5 (Change: -44.7%) $1.35 billion worldwide and counting. That is all. 4. Battleship Gross: $4,810,000 ($55,123,000) Screens: 3,144 (PSA $1,530) Weeks: 3 (Change: -56.5%) Say bye bye to Battleship as it continues sinking ever faster down the Top 10. Universal’s thanking their lucky stars for the foreign markets right about now, as domestic take has totally a paltry $55.1 million in three weeks. 5. The Dictator Gross: $4,725,000 ($50,835,000) Screens: 2,649 (PSA $1,784) Weeks: 3 (Change: -49.1%) Still just the third-best performing Sacha Baron Cohen movie to date. N/A Piranha 3DD Gross: $179,000 (new) Screens: 86 (PSA $2,081) Weeks: 1 Well, they tried . Kinda . [Figures via Box Office Mojo ]

First Look: Elizabeth Olsen Gives a Glimpse of Erotic Thriller Therese Raquin

Elizabeth Olsen looks modestly dressed in her Victorian-era full-length dresses and hats for her role in the erotic thriller Therese Raquin , which she is currently filming in Budapest, Hungary. Olsen plays the title character Therese Raquin in this project, directed by Charlie Stratton and also starring Harry Potter ‘s Tom Felton and Jessica Lange. Her character is apparently forced into a loveless marriage with her sickly cousin Camille, played by Fenton. Young, beautiful and sexually repressed, Therese casts off innocence for a sizzling affair with her husband’s best friend Laurent, played by Drive actor Oscar Isaac. Needless to say, her dress gets ripped off on numerous occasions, according to The Daily Mail , which featured a number of photos of Olsen on set. Lange plays Therese’s controlling aunt, Madame Raquin, and the story crescendos as Therese’s dalliances with Laurent produces disastrous outcomes. “Some of the film’s themes will include the subjects of imprisonment and punishment, temperament and the human animal,” noted The Daily Mail. Olsen, 23, won praise last year for her starring role in Sundance indie Martha Marcy May Marlene and she will be seen this week in the Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener starrer Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding , which opens Friday.
