Another day, another hair-raising poster that terrible parents let their kids see. This one’s a closeup of an astronaut presumably waiting to perish in Apollo 18 , a disturbing “found-footage” mockumentary in the style of The Blair Witch Project and The Real Housewives of New Jersey . Handle it?

Jay-Z And Kanye’s Watch The Throne Countdown Begins!

With just a week to go until its long-awaited release, we look back on the year-long journey to the Throne. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images The wait is almost over. On August 8, Jay-Z and Kanye West (now collectively known as the Throne ) will drop their long-awaited, full-length album Watch the Throne on iTunes as a digital exclusive, with physical retailers to follow on August 12. It was August 2010 when Kanye first sent the rap world buzzing when he tweeted, “Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called ‘Watch the Throne.’ ” By October, that five-song EP had turned into a full-length LP. West confirmed with MTV News ‘ Sway that he and Hov were going all in. Check out exclusive photos of Jay-Z and Kanye West in the studio. “We putting out a whole album now,” ‘Ye said. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay,” he chuckled. “But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” Things didn’t quite work out as planned, or perhaps Kanye overstated things, but the recording took way more than 24 hours. Nevertheless, while on a promo run to promote his book told Sway that he enjoyed working with Kanye and marveled at his growth as a beatmaker and lyricist. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov said. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really, he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” Fanatics wouldn’t get their first taste of Watch the Throne until January 2011 when the duo released “H.A.M.,” the Lex Luger-produced energy ball that found ‘Ye and Jay trading braggadocios verses. In the end, however, ‘H.A.M.” wasn’t the big hit that fans and pundits expected. Still, expectations for the album remained high. “There’s songs on there that’s making you go crazy,” Swizz Beatz told MTV News of the project without revealing too much. “That album is amazing, but I have to let those guys talk about that, because that’s their expression. All I can tell you is it passed the bar.” Read MTV News’ first impressions of the album after an exclusive listening session. Anticipation led to multiple rumors about the LP’s release date. Soon after, an official track list was revealed on Jay’s Life and Times blog. The track list confirmed that Beyonc

‘Cowboys & Aliens’: Everything You Need To Know!

As Jon Favreau’s flick hits theaters, we lasso up all the details about the much-anticipated flick. By Terri Schwartz Daniel Craig in “Cowboys and Aliens” Photo: Universal Pictures “Cowboys & Aliens” may be lassoing its way into theaters on Friday (July 29), but the movie’s journey to the big screen began a long time ago in a galaxy … well, not so far away. The current incarnation of Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s 2006 graphic novel is a far cry from what the director had originally envisioned. When we first heard about the project back in ’08, it seemed to be shaping up to be “Iron Man 2.0,” with Favreau directing, “Iron Man” screenwriters penning the script and Robert Downey Jr. pegged as the flick’s leading man. “Cowboys & Aliens” was initially set to begin filming in 2009 , but with Downey Jr. unsure about committing to the role and Favreau still not officially onboard , things were still up in the air. Also by then, the “Cowboys & Aliens” script was in the capable hands of “Star Trek” writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman , who admitted that they had veered from the source material. In January 2010, Downey Jr. parted ways with “Cowboys & Aliens.” Fortunately, things started looking up only two days later, when it was announced that Daniel Craig was in talks to replace the “Iron Man” star as protagonist Zeke Johnson. In addition, the movie was set to start filming in July, potentially in 3-D . The casting announcements continued flowing in, including Olivia Wilde who came onboard as the movie’s leading lady. With the majority of the major players set to go, “Cowboys & Aliens” was given a July 2011 release date. In April 2010, rumors began to swirl that Harrison Ford would join “Cowboys & Aliens” . Favreau confirmed on Twitter that Han Solo himself would star opposite Craig and Wilde, making this one of the coolest casts around. The casting news just kept coming, with Noah Ringer , Sam Rockwell , Adam Beach , Paul Dano, Keith Carradine , Clancy Brown and Walton Goggins added as well. The buzz for the flick continued to grow right through to its 2010 Comic-Con presentation, where fanboys salivated at the news that Wilde had filmed a nude scene just days before the event. But it wasn’t until November that the rest of the world got a taste of what was in store. The first trailer arrived on November 17, and Favreau stopped by MTV’s offices to offer his own commentary on it. Then in February, another exciting new trailer aired during the Super Bowl . MTV News was lucky enough to get Favreau back for more trailer dissection . Plenty more “Cowboys” trailers followed, as well as clips . In mid-July, MTV News headed to Montana, where we chatted with the cast, including Craig and Wilde. Not long after that trip, Favreau stopped by our San Diego headquarters to talk about the movie’s big Comic-Con world premiere. It was the nerd event of the convention. Michael Jackson Family Announces Tribute Concert

Lineup for October show in Cardiff, Wales, will be revealed August 3. By Gil Kaufman Siblings LaToya, Tito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson after announcing ‘Michael Forever,’ in Beverly Hills July 25, 2011. Photo: AFP/Getty Images Michael Jackson ‘s family has announced a tribute concert to the late King of Pop that is slated to take place on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales. The four-hour show at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium will be broadcast via satellite on pay-per-view and into movie theaters with a cast of big-name performers whose identities have not yet been revealed. At the Beverly Hills press conference on Monday revealing the details of the “Michael Forever” show, Jackson family matriarch Katherine was joined by sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya; siblings Jermaine, Randy, Janet and estranged husband Joe were not in attendance. “When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way, and so I’d like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son’s legacy alive,” Katherine Jackson said of Michael, who died in June 2009 of a heart attack caused by a prescription drug overdose. According to Wales Online , the show will feature artists Jackson admired and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of his solo career. “I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it,” Katherine said. “It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come.” Sister LaToya added, “This event is far, far overdue. He was an entertainer who I feel no one can ever stand up to or hold a candle to as far as his talent is concerned. This tribute will be something spectacular and I know that he would approve.” One of the show’s producers said that despite taking place in a large stadium, the building’s roof will be closed to create a more intimate atmosphere. Proceeds from the show will benefit three charities Jackson supported: the Prince’s Trust, AIDS Project Los Angeles and a cancer charity. The show’s lineup will be announced on August 3. As with many things related to MJ’s legacy, there was controversy, as brothers Randy and Jermaine said they thought the timing of the show was inappropriate. In a statement, the two said, “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20.” That date is when Jackson’s former doctor, Conrad Murray , is slated to go on trial for manslaughter charges in the singer’s death. Jermaine attempted to put on a tribute concert to his late brother in September 2009, but the show fell apart after many of the top acts were unable to commit to the event. Drake Reveals Lead Take Care Single: ‘Headlines’

‘With this album, I want to tell a whole story,’ Drake tells Rolling Stone. By Alvin Blanco Drake Photo: Getty Images While hip-hop heads are eyeing the throne, more details are being revealed about Drake’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Take Care. After releasing a handful of songs via his blog (including “Marvin’s Room” and “Dreams Money Can Buy”), the Toronto rapper and YMCMB representative reportedly will soon be dropping his new album’s proper lead single “Headlines” and has also divulged info about a few more songs on the project. Drake let loose an obvious clue about his official single with a tweet on July 18 that read simply, “Headlines.” On Thursday, it was confirmed that there is a song called “Headlines” and it was produced by longtime Drake producers and collaborators Matthew “Boi-1da” Samuels and Noah “40” Shebib, according to HipHopDX . Ironically, despite all the speculation on what his new album’s first single will be, Drake expressed his disdain of single tracks. “I hate singles. … With this album, I want to tell a whole story,” Drake told Rolling Stone . “I don’t want people to just hear a piece and judge the album on that.” In the interview, conducted in the Toronto studio where he is recording the album, Drake revealed the titles to three songs: “Shot for Me,” “Free Spirit” and “The Real Her.” “Free Spirit” features Rick Ross, and “The Real Her” features Drake’s Young Money benefactor Lil Wayne. Drake also mentioned his desire to collaborate with an eclectic mix of musicians for Take Care, including R&B crooner Abel Tesfaye of the Weeknd, storied hip-hop producer DJ Premier, and indie rockers Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine’s and producer Jamie Smith of the xx. Take Care is due in stores October 24, which happens to be Drake’s birthday. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake Related Artists Drake

Universal Won’t Make Ron Howard’s Adaptation of The Dark Tower

Apparently, it just wasn’t meant to be — for now. Per Deadline, Universal has decided not to go forward with the crazy-ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower that director Ron Howard , producer Brian Grazer and screenwriter/producer Akiva Goldsman had planned over three films and two companion television series. Howard is now free to shop the project to other studios, though whether one bites remains to be seen. This is the second major geek property that Universal has passed on this year, following Guillermo del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness . [ Deadline ]

‘Harry Potter’ Star Emma Watson Will Be Back Onscreen Soon

‘My Week With Marilyn’ and ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ are the first two post-‘Potter’ projects Watson lined up. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Watson Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage We hope Emma Watson has already digested her post- “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” brunch. Because now that she’s finished the project that virtually defined a decade of her life, the actress has plenty to look forward to. The 21-year-old starlet did just a few non-“Potter” acting roles during her time with the franchise, only separating herself from Hermione long enough to star in the 2007 BBC film “Ballet Shoes” and lend her voice to 2008’s “Tales of Despereaux.” Now, she has wrapped her first two post-“Potter” films and is excited for people to see her outside of a “Harry Potter” capacity. Up first is the Michelle Williams-starring adaptation of “My Week With Marilyn,” based on Laurence Olivier’s assistant’s account of spending time with Marilyn Monroe (Williams) while she was filming “The Prince and the Showgirl.” Watson plays a character named Lucy who goes on a few dates with leading man Eddie Redmayne. It’s a minor role for a small film (which is slated for release this November), but it’s garnering a lot of attention because of Watson’s involvement. “I’ve seen a trailer for it. It looks pretty amazing,” Watson told MTV News at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. “I mean, Michelle is an incredible actress, and Eddie Redmayne is also in it, so he did a great job.” But her upcoming film that’s getting the most buzz is the Summit Entertainment adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s coming-of-age novel, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Watson plays Sam, the love interest of main character Charlie (played by Logan Lerman). It wrapped shooting several weeks ago, and Watson told us at the Movie Awards that the expectation was to turn it around and get it released quickly. “It’s so funny because I never thought I’d make another sort of high school-esque movie, and here I am in this coming-of-age, American teen [movie],” she said. “But it’s very witty, and it’s very funny and it’s very moving, so I’m excited.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
