When my students calculated that our school filled 18 cans of trash each day during lunch, they knew they had identified their Siemen’s We Can Change the World Challenge . What they didn’t realize was how much of a challenge it would be for each of them personally to complete the project…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

Lindsay Lohan Dropped From ‘Inferno’

Director says he will replace troubled actress in Linda Lovelace biopic. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lindsay Lohan on set of “Inferno” Photo: TylerShields.com Lindsay Lohan is officially too hot for “Inferno.” The film’s director, Matthew Wilder, told E! News that after months of standing by the troubled starlet, he has decided to drop Lohan from the project. “We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan,” he said. “We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard.” The director explained that the inability to insure Lohan played a factor in the decision to continue the production without the embattled actress. “We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support,” Wilder said. “Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her — and some other issues — have made it impossible for us to go forward.” Lohan’s replacement is expected to be announced on Monday. Although Wilder has publicly supported Lohan through her legal drama and substance abuse issues, and maintained he will strive to accommodate the actress, the director recently hinted that the production may have to ditch the star. “You know we have been through a lot with this project, and although she is still our number one choice — we do have a Plan B if she cannot film ‘Inferno,’ ” Wilder told Radar Online . The director also added that he had been communicating with other actresses who were interested in the role. Questions about whether the starlet could complete the movie have dogged the project throughout Lohan’s eventful year, which has included two prison bids for violating her probation. Filming was set to begin in November but Lohan was ordered to remain in rehab until January . While Wilder has previously admitted his frustration with the actress’ situation, he has also maintained that Lohan’s talent was worth sticking by the star. “I understand people’s exasperation,” he told MTV News in September . “I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com. Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Is Nearly Finished, ‘Almost Perfect’

‘It won’t be much longer, it’s almost perfect. But I (we) don’t want almost,’ Gaga tweets about forthcoming album. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images By now, you are probably aware that Lady Gaga’s upcoming Born This Way album is “incredible,” “shocking,” “bold and beautiful,” “utter liberation,” and, of course, “crazy amazing.” But what you might not have known is that it is finally, totally, completely finished. Almost. That’s according to Gaga herself, who took to her Twitter account on Wednesday to announce that she’s nearly wrapped production on Born, and that her little monsters’ long wait is just about over. Unless she’s not satisfied with every last detail, of course. “Endless melodies, hooks [and] poetry sledge-hammering my skull,” she tweeted . “It won’t be much longer, it’s almost perfect. But I (we) don’t want almost.” Of course, there’s still no release date (tentative or otherwise) for Born This Way, though Gaga has been playing songs from the album — like “You And I” and “Living on the Radio” — since the summer, and has discussed the project at length during her Monster Ball performances. In September, at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , she announced the title of the album after winning Video of the Year. Those who have heard Born This Way can’t seem to stop gushing over it. On Tuesday, MTV News caught up with Gaga’s label boss, Akon, who said the album “is definitely … a notch up” from her previous work, and that she’s “taking things to the next level.” Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter, said that he’s just starting to play music from Born for Interscope Records, and that the songs on the album are “incredible.” He also hinted that the album would be “coming soon.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Navajo Nation Council Approves Water Rights Settlement

The deal would give the Navajo and Hopi tribes rights to Colorado River water; the U.S. Congress and other stakeholders still need to sign off. In the latest attempt to address a lingering dispute for Colorado River water, the Navajo Nation Council voted 51-24 on Nov. 4 to approve a draft settlement that would quantify the tribe’s water rights in the lower river basin. The agreement, which still needs approval from several parties, including the U.S. Congress, grants the Navajo and Hopi tribes 31,000 acre-feet per year from the Colorado River, as well as 160,000 annually in unappropriated flows from the Little Colorado. Although it generally gives unlimited access to the two aquifers below the Navajo Reservation, it sets a 2,000 acre-foot-per-year cap on the industrial use of aquifer water. It also provides federal reserved rights, meaning that the right to the water is not lost in case of non-use. In comparison, most western appropriations fall under the ‘use-it-or-lose-it’ doctrine of beneficial use. The agreement proposes the construction of three new pipelines, at an estimated total cost of $680 million, to bring water to areas of the reservation with inadequate supplies. The Western Navajo pipeline, the largest of the three, will divert surface water; the others will pump from the Coconino and Navajo aquifers. Based on past settlements, it may be years before the surface water claims are delivered to the Navajo, whose reservation spreads across parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. In 2005, for example, the tribe and the state of New Mexico agreed to a rights settlement to water in the San Juan Basin, but Congress did not pass the bill until 2009. Accessing the water requires the construction of the $870 million Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project, for which Congress has allocated only $3 million to date. The 2005 agreement stipulates that it be completed by the end of 2024. The settlement passed by the council last week is one of several pending water rights claims, said Gil Arviso, vice chairman of the Navajo Nation Water Rights Council. The 31,000 acre-feet will serve Navajo lands in the western area of the lower basin of the Colorado River. Settlements still need to be worked out for tribal lands in the Upper Colorado Basin and in Utah, Arviso said. Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. is expected to sign the agreement, which then needs to be approved by the Hopi Tribe, Arizona water stakeholders and the U.S. Congress. Yet, not all members of the Navajo Council were satisfied with the decision. Council member Hope MacDonald Lone Tree was upset that use of the water was tied to federal funds for a delivery system. “There is no funding for these proposed pipelines,” MacDonald said, according to a council press release. “Yet, we just agreed to give away our water to all the coyotes who have been stealing it from our people and Nation for years. As far as I’m concerned, all the waters that flow off and within the Four Sacred Mountains are ours. We should never shortchange our future generations by leaving them no tools for survival.” added by: JanforGore

My Chemical Romance’s ‘Sing’ Video: Go Behind The Scenes!

Clip premieres at 12:01 a.m. on MTV.com. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way on the set of their video for “Sing” Photo: MTV News My Chemical Romance’s brand-new “Sing” video doesn’t premiere until 12:01 a.m. ET on MTV.com, but you can get a sneak peek at some behind-the-scenes action right now. Last month, MTV News was on set with the guys of MCR as they took over downtown Los Angeles in the very early morning hours to film “Sing,” the second clip from their upcoming Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys album. It picks up right where the first video — the white-hot “Na Na Na” — ends, following the band’s Killjoy characters as they invade Battery City (and the headquarters of the evil Better Living Industries) in an attempt to rescue a mysterious little girl from the clutches of the nefarious Korse. Do they succeed in their mission? Well, to be honest, we’re not sure if they succeed or not, mostly because, on the day we stopped by, MCR were busy burning rubber up and down a L.A. tunnel in their Killjoy Trans Am — they do all their own stunts, for the record — shooting several scenes in which they peel out, peer menacingly and, most awesomely, bust right on through a checkpoint manned by Blind Industry soldiers (and at least one Draculoid). It looked like it was a blast, and in between takes, MCR frontman Gerard Way — who co-directs the video along with P.R. Brown — watched replays and laughed, almost as if he couldn’t believe he was being allowed to get away with this. And then, daylight came and shooting was over. Trust us, we’re waiting to see how this whole thing plays out too. But before the big premiere — again, it’s at 12:01 am ET on MTV.com — check out our behind-the-scenes look at the making of My Chemical Romance’s “Sing.” What are you expecting from the latest MCR video? Jay-Z Says Watch The Throne With Kanye West Is On ‘Another Level’

‘Decoded’ MC tells MTV News teaming up with ‘Ye for joint LP is ‘fantastic’ because he’s watched him grow. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Jay-Z has been on top of the MC heap for so long you’d think he’d be fine ruling his monarchy without outside contributions. But for his next set, Watch the Throne, Jay is making a collaborative effort with Kanye West, and the Brooklyn legend tells MTV News he’s excited about the project, especially given the “Runaway” star’s growing status as a hip-hop king. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov explained to us this week. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” The project was originally slated to be an EP, but West confirmed to MTV News in October that Watch the Throne would now be a full-length release. “We putting out a whole album now,” ‘Ye said. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay. But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” The pair ventured to France last month to record material as planned, and Jay-Z revealed he and West will head out to Australia soon to finish the rest of the album. The inspired duo recently completed seven songs in three days, according to Hov. Are you glad Jay and Kanye are teaming up for a joint album? Tell us in the comments! Ambush Filmmaker O’Keefe Tried To ‘Punk,’ ‘Seduce’ CNN Reporter | TPMMuckraker

Editor's note: CNN takes an unprecedented look inside the young conservative activist movement in the documentary “Right On The Edge,” which airs Oct. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/29/okeefe.cnn.prank/?hpt=T2 James O'Keefe, the young conservative activist who secretly recorded meetings with ACORN and was convicted in May of entering Sen. Mary Landrieu's office under false pretenses, allegedly tried to “punk” CNN reporter Abbie Boudreau by luring her on to a boat and seducing her. CNN reports on the scheme today, a few days before airing a documentary on O'Keefe and other young conservatives called “Right on the Edge.” The incident happened in August, when Boudreau was working on the documentary. According to CNN, Boudreau was trying to get O'Keefe to let her and a camera crew tape a video shoot O'Keefe and some of his friends were doing. He told her he wanted to meet her alone, in person, beforehand. When she arrived at his house in Maryland, she was approached by Izzy Santa, the executive director of Project Veritas, O'Keefe's investigative journalism project. Santa told Boudreau that O'Keefe actually wanted to meet with the reporter on his boat, which he had set up into a “pleasure palace,” where he would try to seduce her in front of hidden cameras. Boudreau left. CNN then obtained emails and a 13-page document outlining the plan. The plan, which Santa confirmed was real, had a list of “props,” including a “condom jar,” “dildos,” sexy music (like Alicia Keys, as Marvin Gaye was dubbed “too cliche”) and a camera on a tripod, which the filmmakers dubbed “an obvious sex tape machine.” There's also a script O'Keefe was supposed to read on camera before meeting with Boudreau. “I've decided to have a little fun,” reads the script. “Instead of giving her a serious interview, I'm going to punk CNN. Abbie has been trying to seduce me to use me, in order to spin a lie about me. So, I'm going to seduce her, on camera, to use her for a video. This bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five will get a taste of her own medicine, she'll get seduced on camera and you'll get to see the awkwardness and the aftermath.” The document also predicts potential fallout from the plan. “If they [CNN] go on the attack, you should point out the hypocrisy in CNN using the inherent sexuality of these women to sell viewers and for ratings, passing up more esteemed and respectable journalists who aren't bubble-headed bleach blondes and keep the focus on CNN.” O'Keefe denied to CNN that he would have gone through with the plan, saying, “That is not my work product. When it was sent to me, I immediately found certain elements highly objectionable and inappropriate, and did not consider them for one minute following it.” The document was apparently written by Ben Wetmore, another activist who hired O'Keefe a few years ago and offered his place as a crash pad for O'Keefe and three others when they illegally entered Landrieu's office dressed as phone repairmen. Boudreau wrote about the episode on her CNN blog. “Apparently, I represent all of the things this group hates about the mainstream media,” she wrote. “They feel because of the way I look that I do not matter, and that my reporting is a joke. They don't know anything about my work ethic – my history – my dedication and commitment – and my love for reporting. They just saw my blonde hair. And the ironic thing is that I'm really a brunette.” added by: toyotabedzrock
