Divergent Will Reveal First Footage at Comic-Con

That is all about to change as the cast of the film, based on Veronica Roth novel, us set to appear on stage at San Diego’s Comic-Con on July 18.    Roth will appear on the panel along with the film’s director, Neil Burger, and quite a few cast members including Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd-Hugher, Christian Madsen, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, and Miles Teller. If you are attending the convention and not necessarily interested in standing in line for the panel, Summit Entertainment will be all about Divergent at their convention floor booth so you can head there and see what all they have to offer. Divergent opens in theaters on March 21st, 2014.

Paula Deen "Lynched" By Public Mob Without Merit, Savannah Newspaper Claims

Georgia history books report 458 lynchings there from 1882-1930, making for “a permanent bruise on the Peach State,” a Savannah Morning News op-ed reads. Better make it 459 after the treatment Paula Deen has gone through, her hometown paper says, after the treatment she’s received over the past few weeks. We’re not paraphrasing, that’s their word of choice. The opinion piece states : “Savannah’s celebrity chef has been lynched – figuratively and publicly in the court of public opinion, and without a full and fair accounting of the facts.” Why? Mostly because the 66-year-old master of comfort food recipes and self-made mogul “said ‘no’ to the equivalent of a shakedown.” The editorial uses the lynching metaphor as “a reminder that justice should be dispensed in court, not at the end of a rope” or “by money-grubbing lawyers.” When Deen refused to pay $1.25 million in hush money to a former employee of her brother’s restaurant, the paper says, “the lynch mob began forming.” How bad was the effort to bilk and slander Paula? Savannah attorney S. Wesley Woolf reportedly wrote to Deen’s lawyer, on behalf of Lisa Jackson : “Exposure of the racist and sexist culture of her corporate and personal life is going to permanently, and irreparably, damage the value of the brand,” “If we are unable to settle, the Complaint will not be quietly filed. I am making arrangements for a press conference on the day of the filing.” “I have identified the journalist for the New York Times who covers civil rights matters and he will be provided a pre-filing exclusive.” “A nationwide press release will be issued to the major networks, newspapers, newsmagazines and news websites across the country.” The Times didn’t break the June 19 story about Deen using racial slurs (in the distant past) – the National Enquirer did – but the story spread rapidly. The Morning News notes that Jackson’s goal was “whipping a mob into a frenzy,” and calls it “a lynching for our times,” a term it insists is fitting. None of this absolves Deen from using a racist slur, the paper says, but “there is such as thing as punishment fitting the crime … this doesn’t come close.” “These rope burns were undeserved.” Do you agree? Was Deen the victim of a virtual lynch mob? Or did she deserve what she got? Share your comments with us and vote in our survey below: Should Deen have been fired?   Yes, there is no excuse for what she did. No, cut the woman some slack people! No, I just like her food, who cares what she says/does! View Poll »

What Did Kim Get Kanye for Father’s Day?

Kim Kardashian made sure her man’s first-ever Father’s Day was a memorable one this year. Kanye West revealed via Twitter that his baby mama gifted him with two Apple computer mice last month, one signed by Steve Jobs and and the other by Steve Wozniak. Their relevance? West told The New York Times recently that his is the Steve Jobs of the Internet . Kanye included the photo above along with his Tweet, one of just seven he has written since May. The entire World Wide Web, of course, continues to wait on photos of North West , as West and Kardashian remain oddly quiet and private regarding their newborn. We hope everything is alright.

Kristen Wiig: No Regrets Over Turning Down Bridesmaids Sequel

It has become almost second nature nowadays that the moment a film is the slightest bit successful and has the scant possibility of a sequel that a second or third, or in some cases even a fourth, movie is thought to be a certainty. So it’s hard to imagine that the hugely popular  Bridesmaids was a one-off, but that’s exactly as Kristen Wiig wanted it. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar , Wiig made it clear that she has no interest in penning a sequel (with co-writer Annie Mumolo) to her 2011 hit. “It wasn’t a hard decision,” she says. “We knew during the first one that this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.” For now Wiig is undoubtedly focused on her upcoming film,  Girl Most Likely , with Darren Criss, that opens on July 19th. Gay Marriage Resumes in California as SCOTUS Rejects Final Challenge

The U.S. Supreme Court on Sunday denied a final request from Proposition 8 supporters to halt issuance of same sex marriage licenses in California. Justice Anthony Kennedy rejected the appeal with no additional comment. Dozens of same-sex weddings have taken place in the state since Friday, following the Supreme Court’s decision last week to dismiss Proposition 8 . Prop 8 controversially banned gay marriage in the state in 2008, only to be thrown out by appellate courts on grounds that such a ban is unconstitutional. The SCOTUS, which also struck down DOMA , determined that the Prop 8 petitioners lacked sufficient grounds to appeal the lower courts’ decision. As a formality, the high court said it would not make the Prop 8 judgment final until after a 25-day window in which supporters could request a re-hearing. Which they did, but the SCOTUS was apparently eager to move on from this much-watched case, as Kennedy turned down the appeal almost immediately. California thus becomes the 13th state in the nation with full marriage equality, with new licenses already being issued throughout the Golden State. More same-sex marriages were expected take place Sunday in accordance with the Pride parade and a reception for newly-married couples in San Francisco. Gay marriage :   Support Oppose View Poll »

VIDEO: Dick Clark’s Passing Suits Shirley MacLaine and Her Dogs Just Fine

There’s really nothing I can add to this video that hasn’t already been captured on camera: The white-hot quasi-celeb vibe of the Bernie premiere in L.A., the vaguely arbitrary line of red-carpet questioning, the genius retort from MacLaine, Jack Black’s exquisite repulsion, the hit-and-run brevity of it all… It just doesn’t get much better. Sorry, Richard Dreyfuss ! Also: Pretty ballsy for a woman so passionate about reincarnation to knock the newly dead, no? Also also: If you haven’t yet read the back story behind Bernie as presented by the nephew of MacLaine’s character, please stop what you’re doing and catch up now. Amazing. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 Sex Pillow Can Be Yours for Just $3K

Twilight fans need to hear just one word to understand why this rather standard-looking pillow is going for thousands on Ebay: “Feathers.” Yes, that’s right — the prop pillow that Edward Cullen shredded during his in flagrante honeymoon sexing with Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is up for auction by the prop reseller Hollywood Parts, which guarantees the authenticity of the item with this lovely detail: “Make up stains from the main actors can be seen on the pillow.” ( Butter-colored , I presume?) Somehow it’s still available for the low, low Buy It Now price of $2,999.99. And I thought shoes from the future were a good investment… [ eBay via Examiner ]

James Bond Killed by Slow News Week

Slow clap for Entertainment Weekly , which today unveiled the cover of its latest issue screaming “The Bond movies in danger!” The story, which is not yet available online or in print, is said to evaluate the threat to the James Bond franchise from insolvent MGM and Daniel Craig’s other franchises — specifically, David Fincher’s adaptation of the Millenium Trilogy. Yikes! Panic much, anybody?
