After two weeks of prosecution testimony in the high-profile, closely-watched trial of George Zimmerman, the defense is now going to present its case. At issue is whether Zimmerman, 29, acted in self-defense when he shot and killed unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012. Friday, the prosecution rested with testimony from Trayvon’s mother and brother, who testified that it was Martin’s voice calling for help on the 911 call. Not all of the state’s witnesses were as compelling, however. In fact, some analysts believed the police may have helped the defense instead . As the defense makes its own case, the million-dollar question is whether Zimmerman himself will take the stand, though we may not know for days. Lawyer Accused Of Killing Girlfriend According to Mail Online An Ivy League lawyer accused of strangling his Weight Watchers executive girlfriend has allegedly been caught on voicemail forcing her to plead for her life. Jason Bohn, 34, has been charged with murder over the beating and strangling of 27-year-old Danielle Thomas in their Astoria, New York apartment just over a year ago. The pocket-dial to a friend’s voicemail on June 24, 2012 appears to capture the tragic last moments of Miss Thomas’s life. The tape, exclusively obtained by CBS, will be central for the prosecution during Bohn’s first-degree murder trial which is due to begin on July 29. He faces life in prison. On the chilling recording, a man believed to be Bohn relentlessly questions why Miss Thomas made a phone call to a number with a 508 area code. Bohn then strangles the 27-year-old before letting go as she pleads with him and tries to answer his questions, CBS was told by prosecutors. She struggles to breath as she answers over and over: ‘I don’t know… Jason, I love you.’ He then replies: ‘You have five seconds and then…and then I’m going to kill you. He continues: ‘I’m going to let you up and then you need to answer quickly or else you die… Danielle, why did you call that number? ‘Danielle you are so stupid. You think I’m going to stop, I won’t stop.’ An autopsy report by the medical examiner revealed that Ms Thomas died of neck compression and blunt-force trauma. ‘She was my only child and my mother’s only grandchild. She was really enjoying New York. She loved her job and they loved her,’ her mother, Jamie Thomas Bright, told the New York Post. Prayers go out to her family.

Hernandez was present in court today for a bail review hearing, where his lawyer begged the judge to release Hernandez from custody while he awaits trial. But the judge wasn’t moved by his arguments — that Hernandez is an upstanding citizen and family man with no flight risk — claiming the prosecution already had very strong evidence that Hernandez had committed the crime. As for the evidence … the prosecutor went through the entire timeline leading up to the murder of Odin Lloyd earlier this month, including matching shell casings found at the murder scene and inside Hernandez’ rental car. He also mentioned the photo TMZ posted last night — showing Hernandez brandishing a glock in the mirror 4 years ago — claiming it’s possible the murder weapon was also a glock. The prosecutor said they’d be seeking the max sentence for Hernandez … life without parole. Hernandez’ fiancee — who was also present in court — was inconsolable when the judge issued her decision to keep the NFL star behind bars. As we reported, Hernandez was remanded into custody yesterday following his arraignment and was ordered to be held WITHOUT bail. Hernandez has been charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd. He’s also been hit with 5 gun-related charges. It could be months — even a year — before Hernandez gets his trial. Oscar Pistorius broke down in tears in a South African courtroom Friday after being charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp . The Olympic sprinter’s attorneys requested to postpone the bail hearing, as did the prosecution. He did not enter a plea and will remain in custody. In his first public response , Pistorius’s family and management team said in a statement that “the alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms.” The statement also said Pistorius “would like to send his deepest sympathies to the family” of Reeva Steenkamp, who died at his home at age 30. Though authorities initially believed that Oscar Pistorius may have mistaken his girlfriend for an intruder, they have since downplayed that possibility. “There is no other suspect involved,” police spokeswoman Brigadier Denise Beukes told the AP, noting that several witnesses are being interviewed. Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder early Thursday. The 26-year-old athlete, a double amputee, became the first Paralymic star to run with able-bodied athletes in an Olympic games last summer in London. Reeva Steenkamp, a model and advocate for women, appeared to be in good spirits before her tragic death, tweeting about Valentine’s Day just hours earlier. “It should be a day of love for everyone,” the model wrote. The trigger-happy murderer and his defense team are now requesting more time to obtain information from school records and social media accounts in a desperate attempt to paint slain teenager Trayvon Martin, who was hunted and gunned down by Zimmerman while walking home unarmed, in the worst light possible. The Grio reports: Neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman will ask a Florida judge to delay his murder trial and request that Trayvon Martin’s school records and information from the teen’s social media accounts be released. Zimmerman’s attorneys said in motions made public Monday that they expect to take between 50 and 75 depositions, and more time is needed to review all of the prosecution’s evidence. Zimmerman’s attorneys say they’ll also ask the judge to allow Martin’s school records to be subpoenaed, as well as information from his Twitter and Facebook accounts. George Zimmerman’s DNA and his alone was found on the gun that killed Trayvon Martin in February, according to DNA test results released by officials Wednesday. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement found Zimmerman’s DNA was on the gun but not Martin’s; it is undetermined whether Martin’s DNA was on the holster. George Zimmerman has acknowledged shooting Trayvon Martin, but has maintained that he acted in self-defense in the wake of a confrontation that left him injured. The DNA tests could play a role in the trial, allowing the prosecution to argue against self-defense since it now seems that Martin never even touched the weapon. The defense could argue that Zimmerman shot before Martin could grab the gun. The test results were the latest discovery material released by officials in the murder case, which has become a national flashpoint in race relations and gun laws. Zimmerman, 28, is free on bail awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder in the killing of Martin, an unarmed African American teenager, in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman was not arrested the night of the shooting in the gated community. After weeks of protests about that fact, a special prosecutor charged Zimmerman. Officials cited missed opportunities by the defendant to diffuse the situation with Martin in charging him with murder; he has apologized to Martin’s family twice.

Simpson walked away from his murder trial a free man, a prosecutor at the center of the case has alleged that the lead defense lawyer tampered with a crucial piece of evidence. Former Los Angeles deputy district attorney Christopher Darden on Thursday accused Simpson defense lawyer, the late Johnnie Cochran, of “manipulating” one of the infamous gloves that the prosecution said linked Simpson to the grisly double murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. After Simpson struggled to fit the gloves on his hands — in one of the defining moments of the racially charged trial that captivated the nation – Cochran famously admonished the jury, “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” On Thursday, during a panel discussion about the trial at Pace Law School in New York City, Darden, a member of the prosecution team, declared: “I think Johnnie tore the lining. There were some additional tears in the lining so that O.J.’s fingers couldn’t go all the way up into the glove.” Darden said in a follow-up interview on Friday that he noticed that when Simpson was trying on a glove for the jury its structure appeared to have changed. “A bailiff told me the defense had it during the lunch hour.” He said he wasn’t specifically accusing anyone, adding: “It’s been my suspicion for a long time that the lining has been manipulated.” He said he had previously voiced similar concerns in TV interviews, but could not recall the details. Sandusky Lawyers To Appeal Convictions Defense attorneys say they will appeal the convictions of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. A jury in Bellefonte, Pa., deliberated 20 hours over two days before convicting Sandusky of 45 charges of child sex abuse. The jury of seven women and five men provided a resounding confirmation of the prosecution’s case, convicting Sandusky on 45 of the 48 counts related to sexual abuse of young boys. Moments after the verdicts were read, Sandusky’s bond was revoked and he was immediately remanded to jail. As he was escorted from court, he took one final glance to his right, to his wife of 45 years. Dottie Sandusky and her family hugged and broke down in tears. Amendola told CBS News an appeal is planned but, barring a reversal of the convictions, the Sandusky will spend the rest of his life in prison. On the basis of WHAT? SMH. Source
Defense lawyers in Jerry Sandusky ‘s child sex abuse trial, set to begin this week, asked the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for a delay in the proceedings. A lower court rejected the request late last week. Jury selection is scheduled for Tuesday in the trial of Sandusky, 68, who was arrested in November and faces 52 criminal counts for the alleged abuse of 10 boys over 15 years. He denies all of the allegations, which tarnished Penn State University and brought down the legendary Joe Paterno, who passed away last winter. The defense said it wanted more time to review material from the prosecution and a delay is warranted for their experts and potential witnesses to be available at trial. Judge John Cleland , who will preside over the trial, wrote that another issue involved grand jury secrecy, so the motion for a continuance had been filed under seal. Cleland did not rule on the defense’s effort to have the charges thrown out. Sandusky’s lawyers have argued that in some instances the allegations are too vague, and in other circumstances rely on impermissible hearsay or lack sufficient evidence. The judge also had not addressed requests by five alleged victims for a court order that would prevent their identities from being disclosed to the public. Opening statements are expected June 11.
