Lindsay Lohan Reportedly Fails Drug Test

Actress could face 30 days in jail. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lindsay Lohan (file) Photo: Pool/ Getty Images After wrapping up jail and rehab stints, Lindsay Lohan might not be completely in the clear. The troubled starlet has reportedly failed a drug test, according to TMZ . Although the actress was released from jail early, only serving 13 days of her 90-day sentence, before staying in rehab for 23 days, Lohan was held to several conditions after her release. Lohan was ordered to submit to random twice-weekly drug and alcohol tests in addition to attending a 12-step program, participate in at least four psychotherapy sessions a week and attend behavior therapy sessions twice a week. If she fails a drug and alcohol test, she is required to return to jail for 30 days. Despite her recent legal drama, Lohan has maintained that she does not have debilitating issues with drugs and alcohol. The actress was ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet in May after missing a mandatory court hearing, which went off at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty. The alarm prompted a California judge to issue a warrant for Lohan’s arrest and double her bail, although Lohan’s lawyer later insisted her client tested negative for alcohol. In a pre-jail interview with Vanity Fair, the actress insisted she wasn’t struggling with addiction. “If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [SCRAM] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I’m taking and my father says I’m taking — so that says something, because I was fine,” Lohan said. “I think everyone has their own addictions and hopefully learns how to get past them,” Lohan said, insisting that most of her issues stem from her strained relationship with her father. “I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life.” Related Photos The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Lindsay Lohan Goes To Court Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

HuffPo Asks, ‘Women of the Tea Party: Who Are You, and What Do You Want?’

What a funny but telling title, the sort of question asked only in war zones or when spotting aliens. Had I received that query in person I would have responded in kind, “Who goes there, friend or foe?” But in this case I was pretty sure I already knew, given the news outlet from whence the question came. And sure enough, I wasn’t long into reading the piece when learning the answer was clearly foe, with malicious intent. The writer was liberal feminist Peggy Drexler , assistant prof of psychology at Cornell Medical School , who wondered if the Tea Party women will come the liberal feminist way on social issues: But it’s fair to assume there aren’t many coming out of this base who will champion issues like gay marriage, choice, and single parent families. Gay marriage and choice are clearly high on Sarah Palin’s list of American evils. Single parent families get a pass for obvious reasons. But as Colleen Campbell [writes]… single mothers are “strong enough and smart enough”… to “handle an unplanned pregnancy”, while continuing to pursue education and a career. In other words: when the going gets tough, the tough keep the baby. So my question to the women of the Tea Party is this. If you take back America from the forces of big government, big spending and big taxes, do you plan to share it with the teenage girl who is unprepared to raise a child, with the gay couple who want the simple right to marry, and with families who may not fit your own definitions? Well, duh, Peggy, isn’t that why the Tea Party germinated in the 1st place? In opposition to your ideology? I’ll leave it to others to handle the homosexual issue, but I’ll address Peggy’s abortion concerns. So hey, Peggy, back at you, how are you currently helping “the teenage girl who is unprepared to raise a child” by any other way than recommending she kill it? Are you saying the value of a person is dependent on affordability or convenience? What do you want us to do with you when you’re a crabby old senile feminist? Are you pro-choice for your future phase of life? As a matter of fact, Peggy, there are over 3,000 pregnancy care centers throughout the United States already helping teenage girls financially, physically, and educationally – free of charge, during pregnancy and long after, funded by donations. We also adopt and provide foster care. That as compared to 1,000 abortion mills that charge $350 to $2k and up per. Yes, Tea Party women believe women are uniquely maternal. You mention the term “momma grizzlies” in your piece, so you understand our perspective that women should be encouraged to protect their children, not kill them, as you believe. We believe in the equal right to life of all females, Peggy. You don’t. Since you support abortion, you support killing females. Furthermore, you certainly know abortion is used specifically to target females for eradication. What are you doing about that, Peggy? Actually, can you do anything about that? I’ll answer that. No. Since preborns are not human in your book, you can’t say anything about this form of sexism without exposing yourself as a big fat lying liberal feminist hypocrite. But back to the title of your piece. Its arrogance makes me laugh. You still think you’re queens of the hill.

Taylor Swift, Kanye West Have Critics Debating VMAs Again

The media weighs in on what ‘Innocent’ and ‘Runaway’ are saying about last year’s incident. By Paul Cantor Taylor Swift and Kanye West at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images/ WireImage Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.” Taylor Swift definitely got that memo. At the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, she seemed to be forgiving someone, maybe Kanye West , as she crooned, “Who you are is not what you did. … You’re still an innocent.” Kanye, who apologized to Swift via Twitter earlier this month, seemed to be acknowledging his wrongdoing in the lyrics of his new song, “Runaway.” Though the pair didn’t appear onstage together on Sunday night, as some hoped, many in the media took the opportunity to weigh in on whether the evening’s performances had settled the score between them. “She seems to have forgiven him,” Jennifer Armstrong wrote in Entertainment Weekly. “She looked gorgeous, as she is wont to do, but, um, the actual song was a pretty opaque.” Kanye’s performance was looked upon more favorably. “It was a complete victory,” EW ‘s Brad Wete wrote, “addressing his character flaws and acknowledging public opinion without relinquishing any of his power.” Spin ‘s Steve Kandell thinks the two stars reluctantly met somewhere in the middle. “Kanye implored a toast to the douche bags and jerkoffs, among whom he undoubtedly counts himself, albeit with reservations,” he wrote. “She thinks he isn’t what he did, but he’s putting the lie to that — no, I am that, it’s just a shame you got in the crossfire. But, to paraphrase another great poet of the VMA era, he’s not that innocent.” Over at The New York Times, Jon Caramanica wrote of West, “Wearing a red suit, he looked amateurish and vulnerable, and also affecting. At the end, Mr. West’s knowing, bombastic humility won.” With respect to Taylor Swift, Caramanica continued, “Ms. Swift — a victim, but no na

Question About Morgellons Disease

Wikipedia defines Morgellons as: “Morgellons (also called Morgellons disease or Morgellons syndrome), is a name given in 2002 by Mary Leitao to a proposed condition referred to by the Centers for Disease Control as unexplained dermopathy and characterized by a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting, and stinging sensations; finding fibers on or under the skin; and persistent skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). Current scientific consensus holds that Morgellons is not a new disorder and is instead a new and misleading name for a well known condition. Most doctors, including dermatologists and psychiatrists, regard Morgellons as a manifestation of known medical conditions, including delusional parasitosis.” I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. Amy Winehouse To Appear On Quincy Jones Tribute Album

Singer has teamed up with Mark Ronson to re-record the 1963 hit ‘It’s My Party’ for Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. By Mawuse Ziegbe Quincy Jones’ new album, Q: Soul Bossa Nostra Photo: Rogers & Cowan Amy Winehouse achieved global fame by layering candid, contemporary lyricism over throwback, doo-wop sounds. Now she’s putting those powerhouse vocals and her affinity for retro rhythms to use for her latest foray back into the spotlight. The U.K. singer will contribute a track to Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, a tribute album celebrating the work of legendary producer and musician Quincy Jones. Winehouse has hooked up with British producer Mark Ronson, who crafted the infectious old-school groove of her sophomore release, Back to Black. For the new project, the duo revamped the playful, if pouty, “It’s My Party,” the 1963 Lesley Gore hit produced by Jones. “Amy and I are both incredibly honoured and excited to be recording this song for Quincy. The regard she holds him in is second to none,” Ronson said in a statement released Wednesday (September 8). “We’ve gone back and forth on this track, fixing and improving it until we were satisfied it was good enough for Quincy.” Jones appeared amped to welcome Winehouse and Ronson’s contribution to Q, which is slated to be released on November 9. “Amy’s talents as an artist are undisputable and I am astounded not only by her voice but by her tremendous knowledge of and respect for music and its history,” Jones said in the statement. “I am thrilled that she and Mark wanted to be a part of this album and I absolutely love what they did to make the song their own.” The Jones track is the latest step toward the limelight for Winehouse, who has battled headline-grabbing issues with drugs and divorce among other personal dramas . Earlier this year, The Roots’ ?uestlove said he and Winehouse were tinkering with a supergroup , and in July, the singer hopped onstage at a Ronson gig in London . Winehouse has also been working on solo material. When she stepped out at the July premiere of “Psychosis,” directed by new flame Reg Traviss, she said her latest album should be available by January and would revisit the well-worn sounds of her previous effort. “It’s going to be very much the same as my second album, where there’s a lot of jukebox stuff and the songs that are … just jukebox, really.” Are you looking forward to Winehouse’s return to music? Why Alcohol Is Good For You

It's one of those medical anomalies that nobody can really explain: Longitudinal studies have consistently shown that people who don't consume any alcohol at all tend to die before people who do. At first glance, this makes little sense. Why would ingesting a psychoactive toxin that increases our risk of cancer, dementia and liver disease lengthen our lifespan? Well, the anomaly has just gotten more anomalous: A new study, published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, followed 1,824 participants between the ages of 55 and 65. Once again, the researchers found that abstaining from alcohol increases the risk of dying, even when you exclude former alcoholics who have now quit. (The thinking is that ex-drinkers might distort the data, since they've already pickled their organs.) While 69 percent of the abstainers died during the twenty-year time span of the study, only 41 percent of moderate drinks passed away. (Moderate drinkers were also 23 percent less likely to die than light drinkers.) But here's the really weird data point: Heavy drinkers also live longer than abstainers. (Only 61 percent of heavy drinkers died during the study.) In other words, consuming disturbingly large amounts of alcohol seems to be better than drinking none at all. added by: 02yamahaR1

Research finds repressed memories don’t exist

The idea that traumatised people, especially the victims of child sexual abuse, deliberately repress horrific memories goes all the way back to the 19th century and the theories of Sigmund Freud himself. But now some experts are saying the evidence points the other way. Professor Grant Devilly, from Griffith University's Psychological Health research unit, says the memory usually works in the opposite way, with traumatised people reliving experiences they would rather forget. “It's the opposite. They wish they couldn't think about it,” he said. In a briefing to the US Supreme Court, Professor Richard McNally from Harvard University described the theory of repressed memory as “the most pernicious bit of folklore ever to infect psychology and psychiatry”. He maintains false memories can easily be created by inept therapists. added by: ozoneocean

Newsweek Hates Fox News: Cover Story Blames Them for New Era of ‘Big Lie Politics’ About Obama

Newsweek has once again gone over the top in their support of Barack Obama, but at least the cover reflects that Obama’s popularity is collapsing. It’s called the “The Making of a Terrorist-Coddling, Warmongering, Wall Street-Loving, Socialistic, Godless, Muslim President.” There’s an asterisk that leads to the note “who isn’t actually any of these things.” Perhaps to be true to their fanboy image, they should just leave that Obama photo on their logo every week. Liberals hate the cover already. Take Michael Shaw on The Huffington Post: “So, the question is, how much more is this desperate-to-stay-in-business “news” publication going to pander to the haters and the far-right crazies as we hurtle through the mid-term sprint?” The cover story by Jonathan Alter comes with the whining subhead “Obama’s enemies have painted him as an alien threat. Can he fight the flight from facts ?” His enemies—and even some of his ostensible allies—have been busy for three years painting Obama as some kind of alien threat. His name, race, exotic upbringing, and determination to reach out to moderate Muslims have given those who would delegitimize him a fresh palette of dark colors. The caricatures are almost comical, as the president himself recognizes. “Some folks say, ‘Well, you know, he’s not as cool as he was,’?” Obama said at a May fundraiser in California. “?‘When they had all the posters around and everything.’ Now I’ve got a Hitler mustache on the posters. That’s quite a change.” Our maddening times demand that the truth be forthrightly stated at the outset, and not just that the president has nothing in common with the führer beyond the possession of a dog. The outlandish stories about Barack Hussein Obama are simply false: he wasn’t born outside the United States (the tabloid “proof” has been debunked as a crude forgery); he has never been a Muslim (he was raised by an atheist and became a practicing Christian in his 20s); his policies are not “socialist” (he explicitly rejected advice to nationalize the banks and wants the government out of General Motors and Chrysler as quickly as possible); he is not a “warmonger” (he promised in 2008 to withdraw from Iraq and escalate in Afghanistan and has done so); he is neither a coddler of terrorists (he has already ordered the killing of more “high value” Qaeda targets in 18 months than his predecessor did in eight years), nor a coddler of Wall Street (his financial-reform package, while watered down, was the most vigorous since the New Deal), nor an enemy of American business (he and the Chamber of Commerce favor tax credits for small business that were stymied by the GOP to deprive him of a victory). And that’s just the short list of lies.  Please remember the last president, George W. Bush, when the topic is dictator and Muslim-radical analogies, and remember what Alter and his Newsweek-lings wrote and said:  “We’re seeing clearly now that Bush thought 9/11 gave him license to act like a dictator, or in his own mind, no doubt, like Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War….If the Democrats regain control of Congress, there may even be articles of impeachment introduced. Similar abuse of power was part of the impeachment charge brought against Richard Nixon in 1974.” — Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter in a “Web-exclusive commentary” posted on December 19, 2005 on the Newsweek website.  “In the words of one of his [Ayatollah Sistani’s] aides, ‘the representation of our Sunni brethren in the coming government must be effective, regardless of the results of the elections.’ As an Iraqi politician said to me, ‘There are currently two Grand Ayatollahs running Iraq: Sistani and Bush. Most of us feel that Sistani is the more rational.’” — Newsweek’s Fareed Zakaria in a column published in the magazine’s January 24, 2005 edition. “[Russia’s Vladimir Putin is] the only one of those leaders who goes in there [the G8 summit] with a commanding popularity among his own people, because he is perceived to be an effective dictator. What we have in this country is a dictator who’s ineffective.” — Newsweek contributing editor Eleanor Clift on The McLaughlin Group, July 15, 2006. Earlier this year , it was Alter who said on the Keith Olbermann show that the Republicans were terrorist-enablers for suggesting President Obama was weak. I wish they would look into their souls a little bit, is that if they convey over and over again that the president of the United States is weak, what does that do? It emboldens the terrorists. And I don`t say that lightly. But think of — think of terrorists overseas and — or at home, who might be plotting an attack. If they think that the president is weak, which he is not. He`s manifestly not. He’s killed twice as many of them [as Bush]. Guess who Newsweek blamed most for Big Lie Politics? Fox News, of course, which has taken the hate into the mainstream: The blame for this extends from Fox News and the Republican leadership, to the peculiar psychology of resentment in public opinion, to the ham-handed political response of the Obama White House. Whatever the cause, if smash-mouth tactics are validated by huge GOP gains in the midterm elections, then Big Lie politics may be with us for good. In some ways, it has always been with us, going back to the 18th-century calumny of James Callender against John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. More recently, the Rev. Jerry Falwell sponsored a film that falsely accused President Clinton of ordering murders and dealing drugs. What’s changed about politics as a contact sport is the reach of the lies. With the exception of Father Charles Coughlin, the anti-Semitic “radio priest” of the 1930s, reactionaries haven’t generally had big audiences. But now the cranks who once could do little more than write ranting letters to the editor on the red ribbons of their typewriters (loaded with exclamation points and in all caps, of course) can spread their venom virally, with the help of right-wing billionaires underwriting their organizations . And while the cable network they watch, Fox News, might not actively promote the idea that the president is a foreign-born Muslim, it does little to knock it down . Fox often covers Obama’s place of birth and religion more as matters of opinion than of fact. Translation: Fox News may not spread lies all the time, but they’re clearly not doing enough to please the White House by sounding exactly like Newsweek. Again, this is a terrible standard for Alter to claim for Newsweek. It’s quite easy to recall how Newsweek would do anything to smear a Republican. In 1991, Alter and Clift endorsed a Kitty Kelley standard of truth for Republican presidents: if a mere fraction of anonymously sourced nastiness about the Reagans was true, the Reagans were a historical nightmare:   “If privacy ends where hypocrisy begins, Kitty Kelley’s steamy expose of Nancy Reagan is a contribution to contemporary history.” — Newsweek Washington reporter Eleanor Clift, April 15. “If even a small fraction of the material amassed and borrowed here turns out to be true, Ronald Reagan and his wife had to be among the most hypocritical people ever to live in the White House. Anyone who vaguely followed the events of his administration already knew that. But millions of others still don’t. While Kitty Kelley’s sensationalism may undermine their ability to find and believe the truth, her popularity may encourage them to explore more of the real history of that era without her.” — Newsweek media reporter Jonathan Alter, April 22 issue. In short, the idea that Newsweek has any ground at all to stand on in the “flight from facts” narrative, or “smearing a president” narrative, is ludicrous. Look at the facts. Newsweek’s take on the facts is transparently partisan. Any objective media watcher would say it’s at least as partisan as Alter thinks Fox News is.
