‘I want to fight, but … I have to realize that it’s a dance,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Kendra Wilkinson Photo: James Lacsina Kendra Wilkinson and her “Dancing With the Stars” partner Louis Van Amstel told MTV News they were working on a “fun” foxtrot for this week, and judging by their performance and the audience reactions, it looks like they succeeded. Wilkinson also told us that the “fun” aspect of the competition can be the most challenging — especially on performance nights. “Monday nights are nerve-racking for me,” she said. “I am giving it my all, though … but I can’t help but be nervous. “The anticipation of going into the dance is the worst,” Wilkinson continued. “I’m a boxer when it comes to that. I have a boxer’s state of mind. I’m going into it like a fight, almost,” she explained of her self-imposed intensity. “I want to win, I want to fight, but it’s not that. I have to realize that it’s a dance. I have to remain calm and relaxed. That’s what I’m trying to work on: not going into it like a fight, looking at it like a dance.” But Van Amstel pointed out that his partner’s intensity and commitment make for an excellent student. “I think from all the celebrities, the one who picks it up the fastest is Kendra,” he said. “It is purely the anticipation [on] show day, really psyching herself out, like a boxer does. Your opponent needs to go down,” he said of trying to help soothe tough mentality, “but in the end, it’s only us on the dance floor.” “I really thought last week we were going to be gone, but we have such an amazing fanbase that they voted us through,” Wilkinson said of her fans. “And I’m just so happy.” Do you think Kendra and Louis have what it takes to stick around for another week? In the wake of his former wife’s recent troubles, Charlie Sheen is moving to gain full custody of his two children with Brooke Mueller , Bob and Max. He’s not stopping there, either. Charlie is declaring legal war on Brooke and will not only ask a judge for full custody, but to cut off child support. Sheen has been paying her $55,000 per MONTH to support the twin sons, who were born after the couple’s 2008 wedding (they split this winter). Charlie’s lawyer, Mark Gross, just gave Brooke Mueller’s attorneys notice that he’s going to court tomorrow to try to change the custody arrangement . Gross says he’ll ask the judge to strip Brooke of both legal and physical custody, on grounds that Brooke has relapsed and checked back into rehab . If the judge does give Charlie full custody, Gross wants the judge to terminate his obligation to pay Brooke $55,000 a month in child support. After all, she would no longer be incurring those expenses. Sheen (and presumably the goddesses) would be handling the parenting. Shudder . Brooke’s lawyers are planning their own offensive, though, also asking the judge for full custody. They also Charlie to be psychologically evaluated. That sound you hear is of it being ON. And potentially high and unstable. Imagine if Charlie Sheen is deemed the safer of two parenting options …
Interpol, Chemical Brothers and Lauryn Hill also help kick off first day. By Mary J. Saying they were “tired of playing the new stuff,” the Kings dug out “Molly’s Chambers” from their pre-big-time 2003 debut EP, Holy Roller Novocaine , which joined more-recent hits “On Call,” “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody.” The rockers’ Who-reminiscent “Black Thumbnail” finale of feedback and drum pummeling ended not with smashed guitars, but with good-ol’-boy singer Caleb Followill knotting up his handkerchief to toss into the adoring crowd. Check out photos from the Coachella Festival . The Kings’ bouncy, Southern-tinged, feel-good rock offered just a hint of the variety that the festival prides itself. More than 100 bands are slated to hit the stage during the three-day event, which was named by Pollstar as North America’s best outdoor music festival for seven of the past eight years. Now in its 12th year, Coachella set attendance records in 2010, packing 75,000 people per day onto the Empire Polo Club fields. This year’s extravaganza sold out six days after tickets went on sale in January. The resulting slew of ticket resellers and scams prompted organizers Goldenvoice to post a message on the Coachella homepage warning desperate seekers: “Do not purchase tickets from a third party” and “Anyone trying to sell a paper ticket is not legitimate.” In a change that began last year, single-day tickets were not available. Those lucky enough to place their orders legitimately received wristbands delivered to their door in elaborate packaging that included a calendar and photos. Interpol — whose set included fan favorites “Slow Hands,” “Say Hello to the Angels” and “Obstacle 1” — ended with a much-hyped collaboration with director David Lynch and the Creators Project that took trippy to a new level. That performance pushed an intensity of lights and sounds up, up, up until there was nothing to do but fade out and leave people walking away saying — like so many do after experiencing a Lynch creation — “Well, that was something, ” while not being sure whether they liked or understood it. After announcing, “They are always leaving us for last call,” Flogging Molly closed the Outdoor Stage with their riotous Irish punk. For those who still had the energy, the Chemical Brothers enticed the crowd to make one more swing by the main stage by turning up every light and bringing it home with “Galvanize,” “Do It Again” and “Don’t Think” in front of an eye-candy backdrop of psychedelic spinning heads, bouncing balls and splattering paint. Earlier on the main stage, former Fugees leading lady Lauryn Hill delivered a soulful set while accompanied by a brass section of tubas, saxophones and trumpets. After promising, “I’m gonna play some classics, some songs you know,” Hill pleased fans with “Everything Is Everything” and “The Sweetest Thing.” Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, up against the late-afternoon heat of the day, succeeded at getting heads nodding as they let the beats remain in the background and their tight, old-school rhymes shine through. Ozomatli surprised any metal lovers who caught their set by playing the first minute of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” from the metal icons’ landmark album of the same name, which celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier in the week. Metallica themselves will rock the polo fields next weekend, along with Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth, when they bring their only scheduled Stateside Big 4 concert to the site. In other unexpected nods to ’80s rock, Cee Lo Green managed to sneak some bars of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” into his disappointingly short set. Those who stuck around for his late start heard “Lady Killer,” Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and “F— You.” Elsewhere, Nosaj Thing found new fans with his flavor of jungle in the Gobi tent, Cut Copy had the Mojave grooving and Robyn had girlfriends boosted on shoulders to wave their arms to her girlie jams. And while Crystal Castles suffered some unfortunate issues with their vocals, their glitch still managed to entrance. The Sahara Tent boasted Erick Morillo, Sasha and Boys Noize, backed by the most impressive light shows in Coachella memory. In the midst of the dance-heavy day, Cold War Kids and the Black Keys offered welcome bluesy, soulful breaks. Still to come this weekend: Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, Paul van Dyk, Wiz Khalifa, the Strokes, Duck Sauce and Kanye West. Did you go to Coachella? Give us your review in the comments below! Wes Craven and stars, including Hayden Panettiere, on what to expect. By Eric Ditzian Neve Campbell in “Scream 4” Photo: Weinstein Co. Eleven years has passed since the previous installment in the “Scream” franchise. The teens that the Weinstein Company is hoping to entice to see the new sequel were probably more keen back in 2000 on watching SpongeBob SquarePants chillax in an underwater pineapple than Ghostface bloodily terrorize Woodsboro. Yet the challenge facing “Scream 4” is hardly unique in Hollywood. Nineteen years passed between “Indiana Jones” flicks, and “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” still raked in nearly $800 million worldwide in 2008. Will audiences still care about the ongoing tale of Sidney Prescott and a knife-wielding psycho? We have a feeling they will. MTV News certainly does, which is why we’ve been closely watching the production since word of the project first surfaced in 2008 and can now present our “Scream 4” cheat sheet: everything you need to know about the new horror flick. Sharpening the Knife News of the fourth film broke in July of ’08, and shortly after, MTV News revealed that Wes Craven , who helmed the previous trilogy, was in talks to return to the director’s chair. But guess what? Not just one new “Scream” was in the works, but an entire trilogy — again masterminded by Kevin Williamson . David Arquette and Courteney Cox were reportedly in talks to re-join the franchise, though early word suggested Neve Campbell had dropped out. Cox, it turned out, would eventually sign on. “The fourth one is an ensemble,” Williamson told us in November ’09. “It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters, and we’ll be introducing several more.” Craven officially signed on to direct in March 2010 and production kicked off early that spring. Joining the familiar faces were Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Anna Paquin and others. Returning to Woodsboro Eleven years after “Scream 3,” would the next installment have enough in store to both satisfy and surprise theatergoers? “For an audience that is so well-versed in ‘Scream’ [films] and in what happens and who becomes the killer, blah, blah, blah, it’s trickier to throw them a curveball,” Panettiere admitted . “I think they’ve done a really cool job with the script. We’ve had a blast on it.” The first footage for the film popped up in September, thanks to “Entertainment Tonight” — not that it revealed much of anything about the plot. But story details had already been emerging over the previous months. As Craven explained , the film would play off the idea of “sequelitis,” referring not only to the many “Scream” films but the fictional “Stab” flicks within the “Scream” mythology. “[Sidney] has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim,” he added. “She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no ‘Scream’ without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past.” The trailer debuted in October. Culkin’s character stepped in to explain the new rules: the kill has to be more extreme (cue woman plummeting to her demise atop news truck), virgins aren’t safe (cut to Ghostface chasing scantily clad virgin around bedroom), and the killer should be filming his handiwork (see Cox discovering camcorder prior to run-in with Ghostface). A second trailer arrived in January, giving us more screams and more near-kills. The question, of course, remains … Who’s the Killer? No one in the cast will cop to the murders just yet. “My character is not the killer, because she knows horror movies too well,” Panettiere argued when we caught up with her recently. “She knows how they work, and she’s too terrified in that scene in the preview.” “My character is not the killer because she’s Sidney Prescott,” Campbell added. Said Aimee Teegarden, “Why am I not the killer? I’m not the killer because I have great hair in the movie. And if you have great hair, you don’t die — bottom line.” Whoever the killer ends up being, we have not seen the last of Ghostface. “Scream 4” is only the first flick in the new planned trilogy. So where does the franchise go from here? “It’s a process that I think all of us go through, trying to stay fresh and not repeating our last acts,” Craven told us . “What is next? What thoughts are in my mind that are original, thoughts that even surprise me, as opposed to looking up and going, ‘Oh, I guess I can do one of those. I guess I can make a zombie movie!’ We just need to keep it fresh and, in a sense, inspired. The thought that you can’t even intellectually sit down necessarily and come up with something, but then a thought comes and hits you in the middle of the shower — that’s your deepest subconscious creativity talking to you.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Scream 4.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Good news for Victoria Jackson. The former Saturday Night Live star, who said Glee makes kids gay , has no longer uttered the most ridiculous, disparaging remark about the Fox hit. Just read what Bret Easton Ellis, an author best known for American Psycho , Tweeted last night: “I like the idea of Glee but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?” Ummm… because you’re a fear-mongering, ignorant moron? Ellis has over 141,000 followers on Twitter and has said in the past that he doesn’t identify as gay or straight. He’s also released similarly strange, bitter Tweets in the past. During the ” It Gets Better ” campaign, which debuted soon after a rash of teen suicide and which featured a number of celebrities sending positive messages to gay youths, Ellis wrote: “Not to bum everyone out, but can we get a reality check here? It gets worse.” Sure. For close-minded bigots perhaps.
Another day, another Twitter beef. This time, its “Bad Girl’s Club” star Natalie Nunn vs. Amber Rose. The fight is over none other than Pittsburgh rap superstar, Wiz Khalifa. The beef stared a few months ago when rumors surfaced that Natalie and Wiz were dating and were quickly replaced by rumors that Wiz and Amber Rose were dating. Natalie, known for her outspoken personality, wasted no time in attacking Amber and Wiz’s relationship, and took to her U-Stream a few months ago to express her dislike for the two, stating that Amber had Natalie’s “sloppy seconds”. This time, Natalie tweeted several pictures of her and Wiz together prior to Wiz and Amber’s relations, and even a picture of her and Amber together, calling Amber fake. Ouch. Natalie started her Twitter rant off by saying: “@missnatalienunn: Only reason ppl know who amber “ROSE” is cause of kanye… If it wasn’t for him the world would only know ur “FLOWER” stripper” And went on to tweet several pictures of her and Whiz together. Amber Rose responded saying: ” @darealamberose: Hey @missnatalienunn I’ll pray for u girl u obviously have Psychological & Insecurity issues. ‘Immortals’ actor talks to MTV News at WonderCon in his first on-camera interview since being cast as the Man of Steel. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Henry Cavill at WonderCon 2011 Photo: Getty Images In his first on-camera interview since being cast as Superman in Zack Snyder’s reboot, the new Man of Steel, actor Henry Cavill, chatted about everything from his research for the part to what it will be like working with his Lois Lane, Amy Adams . MTV News caught up with Cavill at WonderCon 2011, where he was promoting his upcoming film “Immortals,” in which he plays a Greek warrior. Turns out Cavill won’t be able to take much of a break after such a daunting role, as he’ll soon gear up to wear Superman’s iconic cape. Cavill said the training for “Superman” will be a “similar kind of thing” to that of “Immortals,” adding, “It’s going to be intense.” Still, it’s not just the physical aspect Cavill will have to focus on: He’ll also have to slip into the psyche of the complex superhero for the tentatively titled “Superman: Man of Steel.” Cavil said he’s done “plenty of comic book research” in order to gather as much information as he can “as to who this man is.” The star explained that by reading the “Superman” comics, he’ll pick up on the “key characteristics” in order to get “a general idea of what he is, and then working from there.” Cavill also opened up about why it was important to stay true to the iconic character, even with Snyder’s new, modern twist. “Superman is Superman, after all. There’s only so much of a change you can make to that,” he said. As he continues to map out how to play the role, he’s already got his leading lady, Amy Adams, lined up and ready to go. It was confirmed a week ago that Adams, fresh off her Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod for “The Fighter,” would play Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane. Cavill, who revealed he’d met with Adams for a screen test, said he was “looking forward to working with” her, calling his newly announced co-star a “fantastic actress, very talented.” He isn’t the only one who’s excited about having Adams tackle the iconic female role. Snyder called her “one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today,” while Margot Kidder , the original Lois Lane, gushed, “She’s a brilliant, wonderful actress! She’s incredible. She’s an extraordinarily accomplished young lady — and gorgeous and full of energy and spirit. She’s so different from part to part, it’s going to be really interesting to see what she does with Lois.” Cavill noted that the age difference between he and Adams (he’s 27, she’s 36) was nothing more than happenstance, saying that making the nine-year difference part of the story line would be for Snyder to decide. Cavill said of the age gap: “I don’t think it matters at all.” Regarding those who argue Adams is too old to star opposite Cavill, Kidder said, “Who cares? What a bizarre thing to be concerned about. She certainly doesn’t look older than him.” Do you think Amy Adams will make a good Lois Lane? Sound off below!
