Kristin Cavallari Recalls Her Best And Worst ‘Hills’ Moments

‘I think my biggest thing was the first episode … I really came in with a bang,’ she tells MTV News of season-five appearance. By Jocelyn Vena Kristin Cavallari Photo: Christina Garibaldi/ MTV News Kristin Cavallari entered “The Hills” like a human storm during one of the show’s most pivotal episodes. Just as Speidi were finally set to tie the knot for real (and Lauren Conrad to say a final farewell), Cavallari walked into the church and the MTV reality series hasn’t been the same since. Not only has the blond star managed, in just under two seasons, to make moves on both Justin Bobby and her ex Brody Jenner, but she also stirred up trouble with Justin’s on-again, off-again GF Audrina Patridge, as well as with Brody’s ladies Jayde and McKaela. (Kristin even had a little hookup with gal pal Stacie.) So between falling in love and making enemies, we wondered what stood out the most to Kristin. MTV News asked the show’s leading lady to give us her most memorable “Hills” moment. “Gosh, top moment … I think I had a couple,” she told us, recalling her rooftop fight with Audrina over Justin during the premiere episode of the second half of season five. “I think my biggest thing was the first episode where I really came in with a bang,” she laughed. “And it was like, ‘All right, clearly I’m back.’ ” These days, everything’s fine between Kristin and Audrina; the two ladies managed to kiss and make up, so to speak. However, one lady Cavallari said she wishes she’d never actually kissed is her bartender pal. “I think that’s sort of my I-wish-I-didn’t moment was when I made out with Stacie in Vegas,” she explained. “That was one episode I had to call my dad and say, ‘Dad, sorry — this is going to be your least favorite episode.’ ” It was a moment that not only surprised viewers at home, but her father too. “He was like, ‘Oh, great,’ and then when he called me — sometimes he’ll call me after every episode just to talk about it — he didn’t say one word about the episode. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. … It’s probably a bad thing,” she laughed. Despite that one regret, Cavallari admitted she’s never been shy about her bad-girl ways. In fact, she always fully embraces them, right through to “The Hills” series finale on Tuesday . “I think it’s funny,” she laughed about her carefree attitude when it comes to boys and, well, girls. “Honestly, I think it’s fun to play the bad girl, and no one remembers the nice girl, you know?” Are you sad to see “The Hills” coming to an end. What’s your favorite Kristin moment from the series? Tell us in the comments! Join MTV News all week as we look back at the best of “The Hills” and celebrate the series finale with the cast on Tuesday, July 13. Hanson Pay Homage To Blues Brothers In ‘Thinking ‘Bout Something’ Video

‘We all watched that movie over and over again as kids,’ Taylor Hanson says of the group’s inspiration for the clip. By James Montgomery Taylor Hanson in “Thinking ‘Bout Something” Photo: Cooking Vinyl Like most guys of a certain era, Taylor Hanson and his brothers grew up watching — and compulsively re-watching — “The Blues Brothers,” the 1980 cult classic featuring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the titular brothers on a mission (from God) to save an orphanage. But unlike most guys of a certain era, they didn’t just watch it for the copious car chase sequences. “We all watched that movie over and over again as kids. I think I’ve probably seen it 1,000 times by now,” Hanson told MTV News on Friday (April 16). “And, what’s great about it is, sure, you can sit around with a bunch of guys and watch it again and again because you want to see the car chases. But that’s only part of it. We all loved it because it captures a certain renegade spirit and the kind of blind optimism that goes with making music. Being in band is reckless and kind of messy, and the film definitely captures that reckless nature.” So, in the back of their minds, Hanson had always thought about paying homage to the film — they just didn’t know when they’d get the chance to do it, until one fateful day earlier this year when the band were kicking around ideas for a video for “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” the first single off their upcoming Shout It Out album. They wanted something that matched the joyous, retro-leaning feel of the tune and, all of a sudden, something clicked. “We wanted to announce that this record is sort of an unapologetic, bright, melodic thing, and so we — since we love this movie so much — we all watched one particular scene, with Ray Charles and the Blues Brothers band [ performing “Shake A Tail Feather” ] and we realized that if you played our song with the scene, it almost looks like they were playing ours,” Hanson said. “I mean, it was crazy. The tempo is perfect. It hit every music-geek button for us, and we absolutely couldn’t have predicted it. So we figured, now’s as good a time as any to make a video.” So, Hanson did just that. Working with Tulsa-based choreographer Heather Hall and director (and friend) Todd Edwards, they re-created the music-shop set from the “Blues Brothers” film (building it in the offices of their 3GC Records), recruited both fans and professional dancers and got to work. They shot the “Somethin'” video in two days, taking great pains to match the film, frame by frame, right down to the costumes and thoroughly outrageous facial hair of the Blues Brothers Band. “We put Isaac in a beard and long hair, and he looks almost exactly like [Blues Brothers’ guitarist] Steve Cropper. He was saying, ‘Is this too much? I look like Moses,’ but it was perfect,” Hanson laughed. “Honestly, it wasn’t all that tough to do. It was like when Peter Jackson directed ‘Lord of the Rings’ — he was already obsessed with it. And that’s how we were with ‘The Blues Brothers.’ ” The “Thinking ‘Bout Something'” video premiered Thursday on MySpace , and almost instantly struck a chord with audiences everywhere, including Perez Hilton, who praised the clip and singled out the cameo by “Weird” Al Yankovic, a longtime Hanson friend and collaborator who just had to make an appearance. “We’ve known him since ’98 and, small world, but he shot [the 1989 film] ‘UHF’ in Tulsa. Plus he’s sort of the king of recreating these pop-culture moments, so having him in it was almost like a blessing,” Hanson said. “He was a consummate professional. He learned all the dance moves, got the wardrobe just right. He was great.” So, really, the video is a success on many different levels: It let the band realize a long-standing dream, it has earned them all sorts of exposure and it reunited them with old friends. And while all of that is nice, Hanson says the most important thing is that the clip seems to resonate with people of all generations. “On the surface level, some people may just see it as a bunch of dancing, and that’s great. But then, as a deep cut, a lot of people instantly recognize it as being a tribute to ‘The Blues Brothers,’ ” he said. “It was very much a labor of love for us. It was a true DIY production, much like everything this band does … we’re really happy so many people like it.” Related Artists Hanson

Consequence Reveals How Asher Roth Ended Up On ‘Childish Games’

The Queens rapper almost didn’t go to the show where he met Roth. By Steven Roberts Asher Roth and Consequence in the music video for “Childish Games” Photo: Motown The video for Consequence’s “Childish Games,” first featured on his mixtape Movies on Demand, recently debuted on MTV, but the collaboration between the Queens, New York, rapper and Asher Roth almost never popped off. Directed by Rik Cordero, the clip captures the song’s comparison of popular schoolyard activities to the games adults play. A split-second decision to perform a show — and skip a hyped Diddy affair — led to the duo’s joint effort. “We were doing a concert in Flint, Michigan, for [the city’s] local radio station,” Consequence said. “They were the first [radio DJs] who stepped out on ‘Whatever You Want’ and added it, before we even went for adds. They asked me to do the concert, and I was like, ‘Cool.’ But the week I was doing that concert was the same week that Diddy was having his birthday party out [in New York City], and I really didn’t put two and two together until the last minute.” More than simply partying, Con was actively trying to secure Diddy and the LOX for what would become the Bad Boy remix of “Whatever You Want.” He was browsing the Louis Vuitton store for a possible ensemble, Con said, when it finally hit him that the concert date coincided with the mogul’s bash. “Long story short, I just had to eat not going to the Diddy party or whatever,” Con said. “I flew out to Michigan. When I get to the hotel, I see Asher’s road manager. He introduces himself. He’s like, ‘Yo, we really love you. You’ve got this slogan you say, and I don’t know if you know it’s a slogan, but it’s our slogan, and it’s ‘I’mma do me regardless.’ ” Con explained that the slogan was from an episode of his YouTube channel Cons TV. Choosing work over partying meant Consequence got a chance to enjoy Asher’s set and really pay attention to him as an MC. After the show, Con played a rough version of “Childish Games” for Roth, who was happy to jump on the song. “He was like, ‘Yo, that’s totally where I’m trying to go with the next record,’ ” Con recalled. The Asleep in the Bread Aisle rapper really wanted people to embrace him as a lyricist, he told Con. “Lo and behold, he came with the verse, and I was like, ‘I hope I ain’t get “Renegade”-d, man,” Con joked, referring to the Jay-Z song, on which many fans think he was bested by featured rapper Eminem. Sure she’s some kind of court jester who targets the Queens and it seems almost fitting but seriously if I was the Royal Family which I’m not, my security detail would have killed this fucking monster as soon as it stepped foot in the building for fear that it was carrying an HIV filled syringe or whatever these weird fucking tranny pros use to protect themselves these days….
