Soulja Boy Says He’s Glad 50 Cent’s Got His Back

Fif has defended the young MC, and ’50 don’t mess with no rappers,’ Soulja says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Soulja Boy Tell’em Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News Hip-pop hitmaker Soulja Boy and gritty G-Unit boss 50 Cent may be hip-hop’s newest odd couple, but the 20-year-old rapper is glad the Queens MC is in his corner — regardless of what critics may say. During a return appearance on MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Thursday (December 2), the “Speakers Going Hammer” star talked about his relationship with Fif, saying he’s amped the Before I Self Destruct lyricist has stuck up for him when his hip-hop cred was questioned. “To have 50 have my back , that’s definitely exciting, it’s an achievement. 50 don’t mess with no rappers,” Soulja said. “When I came out, there [was] a lot of people that was hating on me [and] felt like I wasn’t real to the game — don’t hate the player, hate the game — 50 shed light on me and he came to my defense.” Soulja talked about taking the brunt of much hip-hop hate for churning out infectious, dance floor-friendly hits that became popular with everyone from all-American teens to Hollywood heavyweights. “Eminem’s daughter doing my [‘Crank That’] dance, that’s just amazing. Just like when I seen Beyonc

Lloyd Banks Reveals Fate Of ‘Blue Fridays’ Series

Hunger for More 2 MC tells MTV News he’s going to ‘keep supplying the street,’ but tracks ‘might not drop on Friday.’ Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News Lloyd Banks just dropped his The Hunger for More 2 album on Monday, but the Queens MC says he has no plans to quit releasing free music. MTV News spoke to G-Unit’s Boy Wonder about the fate of his weekly Blue Fridays series, and he told us he has to keep feeding the streets. “As far as the Blue Fridays go, I’m gonna keep going up until the last Friday,” Banks said. “So maybe Black Friday, I’ll stop there, but that’s just that phase. I’ll go into a whole new series — I don’t want to name anything yet — I’m definitely going to keep putting out content, it just might not drop on Friday.” Banks kicked off Blue Fridays in October to help build anticipation for HFM2, the rapper’s first album since signing with G-Unit/EMI after a brief stint as an independent artist. Hunger for More 2 finds the Punch Line King backed by a heavyweight guest list of beatmakers (Ryan Leslie, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League) and features (Raekwon, Pusha T, Styles P). But while the album is now on sale, Banks is primed to ramp up his freebie deliveries. “I think I’ve spoiled people to the point that they expect more than just one song,” Banks said. “Maybe I’ll start dropping two songs a day; I’m definitely not gonna go back to the point where I stop supplying the street. I think that was part of the reason for the resistance, is that people know you’re capable of doing it. It’s like showing your trainer you can do 100 push-ups and then try to do 50 tomorrow.” (No pun intended, of course.) Are you excited for Banks to start up another series? Exclusive: Nas Talks Lost Tapes: Vol. 2

Esco says he’s focused on ‘owning the streets again’ and reveals to MTV News that hotly anticipated sequel is due December 14. By Shaheem Reid Nas Photo: C. Flanigan/ Getty Images Esco, let’s go. Nas isn’t the most prolific on Twitter, but he sent out a big blast on Wednesday (September 15), leaving a message all of his fans will love. “It’s coming… LOST TAPES VOLUME TWO!!!” Nas posted on his page @nas . The Queens native is finally following up his 2002 classic compilation, The Lost Tapes. That record was a potent mix of his tracks left on the cutting-room floor over the years. On Wednesday afternoon, MTV News got word from Nas’ camp that The Lost Tapes: Vol. 2 will be released on December 14. Speaking to us exclusively, Nas revealed he was feeling inspired these days and the Lost Tapes sequel is just a small taste of what’s to come. He’s about to hit the blocks with a barrage. “I’m unloading records I want the streets to hear,” the Queens rapper said in an e-mail. “Cleaning out my hard drives. Gonna do this, then start fresh. I’m dropping my solo LP before the summer of 2011. I love the energy the world has been giving me over the last two years. But now it’s time to focus on owning the streets again.” Just earlier this month, Nas and DJ Green Lantern put out “Last Real N—a Alive, Part 2” for the mixtapes. The vocals from that record were recorded back when Nas was making his last album, Untitled. “Cars with police radars/ On highways bopping/ Bullpen therapy/ Cell-block dodging/ Pissy stairways,” he raps. “Miss them days, not when/ They shut down stores when I’m shopping,” Nas raps over the trumpet-laden track. “Used to be pop-locking, train-hopping/ Face covered in stocking/ Six-pack Bud-drinking gambler/ F— them cameras/ In front of the man, sing the hustla’s mantra/ Hands are luck/ More hits than Gamble and Huff.” “[Nasty Nas] never left,” Nas told MTV News when the verse leaked. “I recorded the song in my hometown of New York City. I was feeling the vibe of the streets and sewers, [which] helped me get in that zone” Since the legendary MC first promised to deliver out new material, he has been back in the lab and talking to Wu-Tang Clan’s the RZA about producing tracks “Escobar is one of the best MCs to ever bless the mic,” RZA said about Nas on the VMA white carpet on Sunday. “We’re still trying to figure our schedule out. We both got a lot of big life ahead of us. But we’re getting in. We’re gonna make that classic. You know what it is. Last time, Nas did a verse for me that was on ‘Verbal Intercourse.’ That was a classic. To get back in and make another classic like that would be real good.” Are you excited for Nas’ Lost Tapes sequel? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Nas RZA

RZA Wowed By Kanye West’s ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Justin Bieber remake with Raekwon takes ‘the past generation to the next level,’ says Wu-Tang Clan super-producer. By Shaheem Reid RZA Photo: MTV News Kanye West recently mixed music worlds like a Ron G blend. The Chicago icon flipped the beat from Wu-Tang’s “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit,” poured in Justin Bieber’s syrupy vocals from “Runaway Love” and created a b-boy-approved remix. Kanye and the Clan’s Raekwon Chef , of course, also rap on the new rendition. Before the VMAs on Sunday, MTV News hit the white carpet and spoke with the RZA — the producer of “Ain’t Nothin’ ” — who said ‘Ye definitely had his blessing to bring back his classic 1993 beat. “That was crazy,” RZA said of the Biebs’ remix. “[Kanye’s] boy called me up like, ‘Yo, we got the remix. Check this out.’ I was like, ‘Wow. Yo. What a collabo.’ I think that’s good to see. It’s always good to see each generation take the past generation to the next level, man. That’s what we do. We all inspire each other. As artists, we’re allowed to do that. So it’s all good love, man.” RZA is now on his way to China to begin directing a kung-fu flick called “The Man With the Iron Fist.” But music is still heavy on his radar: He’s contributing to Kanye’s upcoming LP and he and Nas have been in talks about working on the Queens legend’s new opus. “Escobar is one of the best MCs to ever bless the mic,” RZA said about Nas. “We’re still trying to figure our schedule out. We both got a lot of big life ahead of us. But we’re getting in. We’re gonna make that classic. You know what it is. Last time, Nas did a verse for me that was on ‘Verbal Intercourse.’ That was a classic. To get back in and make another classic like that would be real good.” What other generation-spanning hip-pop collabos would you like to hear? Tell us your ideas in the comments! Noreaga Hopes ‘Nut Cracker’ Will Be A Summer ‘Club Banger’

‘I didn’t want the summer to leave without me having a club banger,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez N.O.R.E. Photo: MTV News Although Capone-N-Noreaga released The War Report 2, the sequel to their debut album , earlier this summer, one-half of the Queens duo wanted to make sure he snuck in another project before flip-flops get exchanged for Timberlands. “I kind of miss going to the clubs, so I immediately wanted to drop a club banger,” Nore told MTV News of his single “Nut Cracker.” “I didn’t want the summer to leave without me having a club banger. So that’s what I wanted to do.” The Scoop DeVille-produced knocker is the first effort from Nore’s forthcoming solo album, which he hopes to release with a major label. The rapper is finalizing a director to work on the visual for “Nut Cracker,” which he hopes will either be a spoof of the movie “House Party” or a take on “Flavor of Love,” featuring Public Enemy hype man Flavor Flav in the clip. In the meantime, Nore is finishing up his album and hoping to add a few more features once he signs a new deal. For now, he’s enjoying the success of “Nut Cracker.” “Big-up to my man Scoop DeVille tearing it up, man,” Nore said. “I couldn’t let the summer leave. I needed one of those club bangers. I was a big fan of [Scoop] from the work he’s done with Snoop, [Fat] Joe and now Nore. And hopefully we’ll have a smash as well.” What’s your take on “Nut Cracker”? Let us know in the comments!
