Barbra Streisand turned 70 this week. Seventy! The star marked the milestone with a party to remember in Malibu, Calif., on Tuesday, celebrating with close friends and enjoying a performance by Johnny Mathis. The legendary singer-actress was joined at Taverna Tony by 80 guests, including John Travolta, Warren Beatty, Pierce Brosnan and Keely Smith, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, her stepson Josh Brolin and Diane Lane, Kenny G and Donna Karan. “It was an intimate magical event with only very close friends, people I’ve known and loved more than 20 years,” Streisand personally told People . “The highlight of the night was my son’s film that he made for me. People kept asking, ‘Who’s that singing?’ And when I said it was Jason, everyone was blown away by the soulfulness of his voice. Quincy Jones wanted to sign him on the spot.” “All my friends made it an evening full of surprises for me, flying in the remarkable Israeli mentalist Lior Suchard and gifting me with the performance of my favorite singer, Johnny Mathis, and many, many more highlights.” Happy birthday to one of the greats! In her career, Barbra has won two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards and a Tony Award, one of a select few entertainers who have ever won all four. Not a bad resume. Her name is Katerina Graham, I’ve never heard of her, but shes apparently on some Vampire Diaries show. She’s also the voice on Will.I.Am’s “I Got it From My Mama” and the Spokesperson for Fanta….. Her dad is Liberian, her mother Jewish and if you’re wondering how she got into the industry, it happened because her dad is the godfather to two of Quincy Jones’ kids….cuz keeping the entertainment industry a closed community for the privileged ones to keep the real talent out and keeps all the money for a centralized group of idiots…who know they’ve scammed the world into making them stupid money… The song sucks, the video concept sucks, but she’s 21, half naked and sweating, so I guess it doesn’t suck all that bad, even if it’s been done before….

Singer has teamed up with Mark Ronson to re-record the 1963 hit ‘It’s My Party’ for Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. By Mawuse Ziegbe Quincy Jones’ new album, Q: Soul Bossa Nostra Photo: Rogers & Cowan Amy Winehouse achieved global fame by layering candid, contemporary lyricism over throwback, doo-wop sounds. Now she’s putting those powerhouse vocals and her affinity for retro rhythms to use for her latest foray back into the spotlight. The U.K. singer will contribute a track to Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, a tribute album celebrating the work of legendary producer and musician Quincy Jones. Winehouse has hooked up with British producer Mark Ronson, who crafted the infectious old-school groove of her sophomore release, Back to Black. For the new project, the duo revamped the playful, if pouty, “It’s My Party,” the 1963 Lesley Gore hit produced by Jones. “Amy and I are both incredibly honoured and excited to be recording this song for Quincy. The regard she holds him in is second to none,” Ronson said in a statement released Wednesday (September 8). “We’ve gone back and forth on this track, fixing and improving it until we were satisfied it was good enough for Quincy.” Jones appeared amped to welcome Winehouse and Ronson’s contribution to Q, which is slated to be released on November 9. “Amy’s talents as an artist are undisputable and I am astounded not only by her voice but by her tremendous knowledge of and respect for music and its history,” Jones said in the statement. “I am thrilled that she and Mark wanted to be a part of this album and I absolutely love what they did to make the song their own.” The Jones track is the latest step toward the limelight for Winehouse, who has battled headline-grabbing issues with drugs and divorce among other personal dramas . Earlier this year, The Roots’ ?uestlove said he and Winehouse were tinkering with a supergroup , and in July, the singer hopped onstage at a Ronson gig in London . Winehouse has also been working on solo material. When she stepped out at the July premiere of “Psychosis,” directed by new flame Reg Traviss, she said her latest album should be available by January and would revisit the well-worn sounds of her previous effort. “It’s going to be very much the same as my second album, where there’s a lot of jukebox stuff and the songs that are … just jukebox, really.” Are you looking forward to Winehouse’s return to music? Wyclef Jean, RedOne and Quincy Jones give the 25-year-old charity song a new feel. By Maura Johnston LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, Swizz Beatz, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes and Will.I.Am perform “We Are The World” Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Wire Image In 1985, Justin Bieber was nine years from being born, Auto-Tune was 12 years from being invented, and Lil Wayne turned 3. Yet all three are prominent on “We Are the World: 25 For Haiti,” a remake of the 1985 charity single that will benefit relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Haiti . The updated version of “We Are the World” not only has a completely different cast than its predecessor — only the late Michael Jackson remains, with his sister Janet singing along to his vocal tracks from the original — its sound is very current, with Auto-Tune flavoring many of the singers’ voices and hip-hop verses being added to the proceedings. Lady Gaga producer RedOne and Haitian native Wyclef Jean assisted original “We Are the World” producer Quincy Jones on production duties. The song opens with Bieber, who steps in for “We Are the World” co-writer Lionel Richie. From there, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Hudson harmonize, and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland drops in. Despite the different faces, the overall feel is similar to the original’s, with Hudson turning in a powerhouse performance on verses originally performed by Stevie Wonder. It’s on the second repetition of the chorus when the song begins to take on a life of its own, with Wyclef singing the song’s title as translated into Creole, which is one of Haiti’s official languages. From there, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine channels Stevie Wonder. The Wonder similarities are only underscored by another Michael Jackson appearance, whose bridge, when he sings, “When you’re down and out, and there seems no hope at all,” remains intact. The chorus of singers and actors then gets soft, with ad-libbed verses by Scherzinger, Nick Jonas, Melanie Fiona, Tony Bennett and the Fray’s Isaac Slade recalling the verses provided by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and James Ingram in 1985. And then Lil Wayne reprises Bob Dylan’s verse , with Carlos Santana furiously playing guitar behind him. In addition to Santana, Australian guitarist Orianthi lends her riffing skills to the track. Pink, Akon and T-Pain add ad-libs as well, and then another callback to 1985 swoops in as Foxx channels the late Ray Charles, who was at the session 25 years ago. Foxx won the 2004 Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Charles in the film “Ray.” Hip-hop is a defining part of the pop landscape in 2010, and the new “We Are the World” reflects that . A Will.I.Am-penned verse is performed by a host of rappers, including LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and Kanye West. Will and Kanye also have solo turns on the song, with each adding brief freestyles. The song ends with Wyclef emotionally toasting his homeland. An abbreviated version of the Paul Haggis-directed “We Are The World: 25 For Haiti” video premiered during the Winter Olympics broadcast on NBC, but the full, almost-seven-minute version of the song is available for purchase on iTunes, and the official We Are The World YouTube channel is streaming the video. The full video will air on television around the world tomorrow. Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, see Think MTV . ‘When you get a call from Quincy Jones to pick up a pen, you pick it up,’ LL says of writing lyrics for benefit single. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jayson Rodriguez LL Cool J Photo: MTV News In case anyone was wondering if Barbra Streisand and Kanye West could make sweet music together, they’ll find out when the star-filled remake of “We Are the World” premieres Friday during the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Thanks to some lyrics from hip-hop legend LL Cool J , the hip-hop community appears to be well represented on the track, which will benefit earthquake-ravaged Haiti. “Mr. [Quincy] Jones just called me and asked me if I would take a shot at writing the hip-hop section or the rap section of the song,” LL Cool J told MTV News at BET’s “SOS Save Ourselves: Help for Haiti” telethon Friday night at Miami’s American Airlines Arena. “And I took a shot at it and recorded it.” With the OK from Jones and Lionel Richie, LL then sought the approval of his hip-hop contemporaries. “It seemed like the other artists that were there liked it,” he said. “Will.I.Am, Wyclef, Kanye — a lot of people were there, and they all seemed to be onboard with it. So we went on and recorded it.” LL was glad that his peers liked the lyrics, but he was even more pleased to see that stars like Celine Dion and Streisand were down with adding some hip-hop flavor to the charity single. “I’m just honored that I’m able to make a contribution and blessed,” he said. “When you get a call from Quincy Jones to pick up a pen, you pick it up. So if they would have not used it, it would have been all right. The point is to have the opportunity to do it and to know that the money is going to go to Haiti and help some people. From a hip-hop standpoint, yeah, it’s great to be a part of it [and that the other artists] didn’t say, ‘Keep hip-hop out of it,’ but embraced it.” Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, see Think MTV . AEG Live CEO and Lionel Richie’s manager Randy Phillips explains how song/video will benefit Haitian earthquake relief. By Kyle Anderson Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones at the “We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage On Monday, producer Quincy Jones and singer Lionel Richie accomplished a tremendous feat in the name of charitable outreach: They brought together dozens of superstars from the music world (along with a handful of Hollywood guests) to record a new version of “We Are the World.” When the tune, which was originally recorded 25 years ago as a way to raise money for hunger relief in Africa, is finally released, the proceeds will go to help survivors of the catastrophic earthquake that destroyed a large portion of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. But where exactly will the money go, and who will benefit the most
