AGAIN?!?! Two victims are confirmed dead at Virginia Tech and the campus is on lockdown after a gunman opened fire Thursday. The suspect in the shooting has not been captured yet. He is described as a white man wearing grey sweats, a grey hat with a neon green brim, a maroon hooded sweatshirt and a backpack, according to the university’s website. An authority, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the AP that shots were fired reportedly after a traffic stop. Individuals on campus began posting photos on their Twitter accounts and RadarOnline.com has obtained one with what appears to be a body covered up with a sheet and yellow police caution tape around it. All transportation in the area has been shut down, CNN reported. The shooting comes more than three years after the 2007 massacre — the deadliest in the country’s contemporary history — in which 23-year-old Virginia Tech student Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people, then himself. Harry Morgan, who played Col. Sherman Potter on TV’s legendary war series M*A*S*H and Jack Webb’s detective partner in Dragnet , died Wednesday at age 96. He and the show became staples of CBS from 1972-1983. The satirical dark comedy was one of TV’s best shows and its finale one of the most-watched events ever. The veteran actor died in his home in Los Angeles, Calif., after suffering from pneumonia, daughter-in-law Beth Morgan told the Associated Press yesterday. “He was side-splittingly funny, a very gentle and loving father-in-law,” Beth Morgan said. “He was very humble about having such a successful career.” Morgan became interested in acting while taking public speaking at the University of Chicago. Local theater stints led to a Broadway production of Golden Boy . After appearing in dramatic films The Ox Box Incident and High Noon , he began a TV career in December Bride and Dragnet , before appearing in M*A*S*H .
We really, REALLY have to do better by our kids . The body of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera was found Monday afternoon in a metal trash bin, the GBI said. Jorelys, who had been missing since Friday, had been severely beaten and sexually assaulted, according to Vernon Keenan, director of the GBI. Investigators believe Jorelys was killed at the Canton apartment complex where she lived, Keenan said. But so far, police do not have any suspects or anyone in custody, he said. “The FBI and the GBI will now focus on a murder investigation,” Keenan said. On the fourth day of the search for Jorelys, a 50-member team made up of GBI agents, Georgia State Patrol troopers, Department of Natural Resources rangers and other state officers specially trained in child abductions was brought in Monday to assist local police and firefighters. Police said they believed they were working a child abduction case. Searchers combed the apartment complex, checking every vehicle for any clues to the girl’s whereabouts. The parking lot of a nearby movie theater served as the command center for search efforts, which included a state patrol helicopter Monday. But just hours after state and national search crews had joined in the search for the girl, the massive effort ended with Keenan’s announcement. The girl’s body was found around 12:30 p.m., he said. Jorelys disappeared around 5 p.m. while she took a break from playing at the River Ridge complex on River Ridge Drive, police said. She reportedly told other children she was going inside to get drinks, but never returned. The girl’s mother was inside while the child played outside, but a teenager was supposed to have been watching Jorelys, Lt. Jeff Hall with the Canton police department said Monday. The family of a 79-year-old dialysis patient is suing a Florida nurse who accidentally gave him a deadly dose of a drug that induces paralysis, instead of an antacid. “The hospital killed my dad,” said Marc Smith of Miami, Fla., whose father went into cardiac arrest after the nurse’s mistake at North Shore Medical Center in Miami. Richard Smith, who had a history of kidney disease, had been admitted to the ICU after a dialysis session where he experienced severe shortness of breath. The next day, July 30, 2010, he complained of an upset stomach, so the doctor prescribed the antacid. Marc Smith came by to visit that morning, and found his dad “unconscious, unresponsive and on a respirator.” “The nurse said my dad had coded. I said, ‘He coded? When did that happen?’” Smith looked at his dad’s chart, and found his father had been resuscitated about 10 minutes earlier. “The nurse basically told me, ‘Talk to the doctor,” Marc Smith said. When he did, he says, the doctor told him, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this but the nurse administered the wrong medication and sent your dad into respiratory arrest. He said the packaging looked the same and he grabbed the wrong package,” Marc Smith recalled. Uvo Ologboride, the nurse named in the lawsuit, had given Smith pancuronium. The drug, which is typically used during intubations, acts as a muscle relaxant and paralytic. In higher doses, pancuronium is used to administer lethal injections. Thirty minutes later, Smith was found unresponsive. Although doctors were able to revive Richard Smith, he was brain dead. He remained in a vegetative state until he died a month later. Wow. The event, which is currently taking place was reportedly so heavily attended that fire marshalls were unable to allow everyone to enter, but numerous celebrities, including Diddy, Flavor Flav and Chris Rock were in attendance at a public wake for the rapper which was held Thursday afternoon and evening. Despite the cold weather a line of fans wishing to pay their respects formed outside the church, wrapping around the building. Heavy D, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, died of a suspected heart attack last week after the 44-year-old reportedly collapsed after walking up stairs at his Beverly Hills apartment building. He’s scheduled to be buried on Friday in a private ceremony, Diddy previously tweeted about his special connection to the dead rapper. ‘Heavy D is the person who gave me my first chance in the music industry,’ he revealed. ‘He got me my internship at Uptown. Casey Anthony is lucky to be alive after allegedly surviving an assassination attempt at her Florida safe house. Casey’s ‘panic-stricken’ bodyguards had to pull her out of the firing line and whisk her to an emergency hideout in the middle of the night before an assassin ‘put a bullet through her brain’, The National Enquirer reported. Casey, who has been dubbed America’s most-hated mom, has been in hiding since she was released from jail following a shock not guilty plea at the murder trial of her daughter Caylee on July 5. Despite efforts by her crack security team to protect her, a hit man allegedly located her hideout and stuck a death warrant to her door saying: ‘I know where you are, I’m coming to put a bullet through your brain.’ The Enquirer said it was eerily similar to an email threat the 25-year-old’s bodyguards previously received saying: ‘I want her dead! if she knew where she was I would do it myself!’ She was released from jail on July 17 and since then, thousands of hate mail and threatening emails have been pouring in to her lawyers’ offices from all over the world. The threatening message – which was allegedly pinned to the door – was said to ‘set off a complete panic’ and the security team had to assume that Casey’s head would be blown off the moment she stepped outside the house. The Lifetime cable network is developing a possible TV movie about the sensational murder trial of Casey Anthony. Fox Television Studios optioned the film and television rights to the book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, written by retired prosecutor Jeff Ashton. It’s not known when the project, which is said to be in the early stages, will air. Variety reports that Lifetime has not greenlit the film yet. In the book, Ashton takes jabs at Anthony’s defense lawyers and jurors, calling lead defense attorney Jose Baez ‘smarmy’ and displaying an unflattering view of the jurors. According to People, the film would tell the story from the prosecution’s point of view, detailing the three years Ashton and his team spent preparing and prosecuting the Florida mother. A source told the Enquirer: ‘There are plenty of people who want to kill Casey because they believe she got away with murdering little Caylee. ‘Her bodyguards rushed her off in the middle of the night to another safe house a prearranged safe hideout that was available in the event of such an emergency.’ The insider said decoy vehicles were also used so the ‘killer’ would not know which one Casey was in, as they are said to realize how determined Casey’s enemies are to kill her and had to take every precaution. ‘The fact she is still hidden and still alive is testimony to just how good her team of bodyguards are. They’re the best, but it was a very close call.’ Because of the terms of her probation for check fraud, Casey must stay in Florida for one year and report every month to a probation officer. This is not the first time her security team have moved her. According to the Enquirer, she was first hidden on St George Island off the coast of northwest Florida before allegedly being moved to a rural location near Gainsville and a condo in New Smyrna Beach. Veteran Hip-Hop producer Pete Rock recently spoke to BET.com about the loss of his cousin Heavy D , who was instrumental in launching his career. “Heavy was our world,” said Pete, 41. “The craziest, funniest guy to be around.” Here is an excerpt of his memories of Heavy D : Hev lost two brothers and Troy [Heavy’s friend and backup dancer], so we’re familiar with the pain. This news felt like a 12 gauge shot to the heart. It’s hard to grasp, I feel like he’s gonna call me any second. We spoke to each other every other day. I just spent the weekend at his house and we did a song together. He didn’t want me to leave, kept trying to keep me at his house, thinking of things for me to do. I was laughing ’cause I was like, ‘Hev, I got to go home and get back to work [laughs]!’ I now realize that God allowed us to have that time together for a reason. He wanted to put me with him one last time. We had so much fun, ate Chinese food, really ate like crazy in the studio [laughs]. I thank God for Hev believing in me.
