Elsewhere In The World: Hungry Pooches In Indonesia Eat Their Owner After Going Unfed For 2 Weeks!

We bet some of you mickiefickies wish this would happen to Mike Vick … Seven dogs starved of food and water for two weeks are suspected of eating their Indonesian owner after he returned to his hometown in Manado from a holiday, local media reported on Tuesday. A neighborhood guard was curious when he saw luggage lined up at the front of Andre Lumboga’s house, days after the 50-year old arrived back home. He approached the house, smelled something foul and called the police, according to a report. “His skull was found in the kitchen, and his body was found in the front of his house,” Eriyana, a local police chief in Batam, an island off Sumatra, told VIVAnews website. Lumboga arrived home last Wednesday, but his body was just discovered on Monday. “We suspect that the dogs were hungry, so they attacked Andre, because they had not been fed for 14 days,” he said. Police also found bones of two other dogs, believed to have also been eaten by the hungry canines. Lumboga was from northern Sulawesi island, a predominantly Christian area, where the local spicy diet is famous in Indonesia for including dogs, bats and forest rats. It’s sad these dogs were left hungry for so long, but even worse that they ate this guy! R.I.P. Source

Oak Tree Smashed By Tiger Woods’ Car Before Scandal Broke: Cut Down!

The infamous oak tree that Tiger Woods drove into that fateful night has met a fate similar to that of his golf career. It’s gone down hard. It was Thanksgiving night in November 2009 when Woods – hopped up on painkillers and reportedly fleeing Elin Nordegren – hopped in his Escalade and plowed into the tree, which sat in his neighbor’s yard. Well, new neighbors moved in recently and tore the thing down. The construction company that did the work on the property said the tree was in terrible shape ever since the crash. The new peeps decided to get rid of it in spite of (or perhaps because of) its status as a memento of Tiger’s affair with Rachel Uchitel . A new tree will be planted soon, according to TMZ . For now, though, there’s just a portable John sitting there, allowing workmen to relieve themselves on the very spot where Tiger Woods’ career went down the toilet. Downright poetic. [Photo: WENN]

What The Hell?? Man Chokes To Death Eating Meal On Flight, Girlfriend Sits Next To His Dead Body For Hours

This is crazy: A 31-year-old New Zealander choked and died eating an airline meal on a Jetstar flight from Singapore to Auckland. His girlfriend, Vanessa Preechakul, 27, told the New Zealand Herald how she sat next to the body of Robert Rippingale after he was moved to a curtained-off crew rest area for most of the 11-hour flight, last Monday. A doctor on board pronounced Mr Rippingale dead 90 minutes after take-off. “One minute we were sitting next to each other kissing, holding hands and the next minute he was choking,” Ms Preechakul said at his funeral, yesterday. She said Mr Rippingale was eating his beef dinner while watching a movie when she noticed him shaking, but at first she didn’t realise anything was wrong. “I thought he was laughing very hard, then I looked at his face and his eyes were rolling and he couldn’t talk. His lips were turning purple,” she said. She said a doctor and two nurses on board were unable to save him. The pair met in Singapore, where Mr Rippingale had lived and worked for three years. They were going to New Zealand to meet his family and to celebrate his parents’ 50th birthdays. Jetstar spokesman Andrew McGinnes said the cause of death was unknown and an inquest would be held. He expressed condolences to the family and thanks to the doctor and nurses who tried to save the man. “This was a very difficult and sad event and our sympathies are with the passenger’s family,” he said. Texas police say a 10-year-old boy died of dehydration after his parents kept water from him for five days as punishment for wetting his bed. Jonathan’s twin brother, Joseph James, and a 12-year-old stepbrother weren’t hurt and are staying with relatives. R.I.P.: R&B Legend Nick Ashford (Of Ashford & Simpson) Loses Fight To Cancer At Age 70

Sad, sad news for the music lovers tonight. Via WashingtonPost.com : Nick Ashford, one-half of the legendary Motown songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson that penned elegant, soulful classics for the likes of Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye and funk hits for Chaka Khan and others, died Monday at age 70, his former publicist said. Ashford, who along with wife Valerie Simpson wrote some of Motown’s biggest hits, died in a New York City hospital, said Liz Rosenberg, who also was Ashford’s longtime friend. He had been suffering from throat cancer and had undergone radiation treatment, she said. Though they had some of their greatest success at Motown with classics like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Reach Out And Touch Somebody’s Hand” by Ross and “You’re All I Need To Get By” by Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Ashford & Simpson also created classics for others, like the anthem “I’m Every Woman” by Khan (and later remade by Whitney Houston). They also had success writing for themselves: Perhaps the biggest known hit sung by them was the 1980s hit “Solid As A Rock.” Ashford and Simpson’s relationship stretched more than four decades. They met in 1964 in a New York City church; Ashford, a South Carolina native, had come to the city to pursue a dance career. Simpson was a music student, and after connecting with her, they decided to start to write songs together. Their first major success occurred when they came up with “Let’s Go Get Stoned” for Ray Charles. That song became a huge hit, and soon, they came to the attention of Motown Records and began penning hits for their artists. The started out writing for Gaye and Terrell; in fact, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” was originally their hit, until Ross later rerecorded it and made it her signature song. The duo, who were married for 38 years, helped sell millions of records for several artists. They also had success as their own entity, but despite “Solid As a Rock,” their hits dwarfed those that they penned for others. In recent years, the pair continued to perform. They also were owners of the New York City restaurant Sugar Bar, where many top names and emerging talents would put on showcases. Ashford is survived by his wife and two daughters.

‘The Help’ and the Marketing of Segregation

When I see the long list of products associated with “The Help”, featuring images of fictionalized black domestic characters, I can’t help but think about Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben and Rastus.
