Erin Moran Dies; Former Happy Days Star Was 56

Erin Moran, the actress best known for having portrayed Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, was found dead on Saturday from causes unknown. She was 56 years old. According to TMZ sources, authorities in Indiana received a call just after 4 p.m. this afternoon from someone reporting he or she had come across an “unresponsive female.”   When emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene, they found Moran ‘s corpse. Moran sky-rocketed to fame in the early 1970s when she was cast as the younger sister of Ron Howard’s beloved character on Happy Days. In 1982, she went on to star opposite Scott Baio on the short-lived spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi. It was canceled after just one season. Following her quick rise to fame, however, Moran struggled in life. She appeared to have a drinking problem and, after a series of bizarre incidents, eventually landed her in a trailer park in Indiana. She had reportedly gone broke and was kicked out of the mobile home she shared with husband, Steve Fleischmann. Along with her aforementioned legendary role, Moran appeared on episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard and VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club. An autopsy has been scheduled to determined cause of death. In 2011, Moran and three of her Happy Days costars (Don Most, Anson Williams and Marion Ross), along with the estate of Tom Bosley, who died in 2010, sued CBS for breach of contract. Alleging that they had not been paid for merchandising relating to the series, they sought millions in damages. In 2012, CBS and the actors settled their lawsuit, with the group receiving and undisclosed amount of money. A Burbank, California native, Moran started acting in television shows and movies before she was 10 years old. She was just 14 when she caught her major break on Happy Days.  In response to this sad news, former co-stars of Moran’s took to social media and expressed their sadness. To wit: Ron Howard : Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens. Henry Winkler : OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon. Added Moran’s good friend, Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on Bewitched: “So sad to share that my friend Erin Moran has passed away. Rest In Peace, sweet girl. Other stars also chimed in on Moran’s passing, such as Yvette Nicole Brown, who Tweeted: “Such sad news. #RIP #ErinMoran #HappyDays Star Dead At 56. We all loved #JoanieCunningham.” And Troy Hughes: “THIS JUST IN … Erin Moran who starred in “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi” has died according to @TMZ … She was 56.” We send along our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Erin Moran. Jennifer Lopez: Totally Controlling Alex Rodriguez?!

By now, you’ve probably heard the news that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are dating. In a way these two are such a perfect match it’s hard to believe they took so long to get together. Their mashup couple name even seemed to announce itself, fully-formed on the day that the news of their relationship went public: J-Rod. Perfection. After several years with an unknown backup dancer, (sorry, Casper Smart ) Lopez was back to dating a dude close to her own level of fame. Of course, the relationship is also more than a little surprising, as A-Rod’s fame comes with a healthy dose of infamy. The guy is widely despised by baseball fans as a result of doping allegations, massive paydays that were rarely justified by his on-field performance, and reports of generally douchey behavior. From a PR standpoint, he has far more to gain from this relationship than J-Lo does. So it’s not surprising that sources close to the couple say there’s a serious power imbalance, and Jen has the upper hand. According to Radar Online, Lopez has issued Rodriguez a lengthy list of demands that he must meet in order for their relationship to continue. “It reads like some kind of style bible,” one insider reveals. “He’s totally under her thumb.” It sounds far-fetched, but if there’s anyone in Hollywood we can imagine issuing a “style bible” to new boyfriends, it’s J-Lo. Despite the demands of the relationship, sources say Alex is happy to be offered the chance to serve as Jen’s arm candy. “He’s very lucky she’s giving him the time of day, given his bad reputation,” one tipster claims. Prior to this relationship, Lopez briefly dated Drake , and the fling apparently taught her some important lessons about the challenges of dating high-profile, successful men. “Jen’s not making the mistakes she made with Drake and Alex is banned from being seen with any other woman under the age of 40,” says the source. But A-Rod’s code of conduct doesn’t end with the company he keeps: “She’s also given him an approved wardrobe list and a list of instructions on where to stand next to her on red carpets,” one insider claims. “It’s even got the expected number of hours they’re to spend together in a week.” Damn, Jen. What’s next, routine urine tests? Just kidding, A-Rod!

Clay Adler, Former MTV Reality Star, Commits Suicide

Clay Adler, a model and television personality best known for his former role on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, committed suicide while on hanging out with friends last month. He was 27 years old. The ex-reality star was likely best known for his leading role on the aforementioned series. It premiered on August 13, 2007 and concluded on January 2, 2008, serving as a successor to Laguna Beach. The program chronicled the lives of several teenagers living in Newport Harbor (an affluent community within Orange County) and was structured more like a regular TV show than a documentary. Adler appeared on both seasons of the show, taking on the “role” of Grant Newman’s close friend and Chrissy Schwartz’s occasional boyfriend. According to TMZ insiders, Adler and a few pals went shooting in the desert on March 25. At one point, in the middle of firing off a few rounds, Adler turned the gun on his own head and pulled the trigger. He died the following day in the hospital from this gunshot wound. Law enforcement officials tell TMZ that no drugs or alcohol were found in Adler’s system, but the 27-year old had struggled with mental illness in the past. After Newport Harbor went off the air, Adler tried to break into the world of acting, earning roles in such films as Make It or Break It and The Fish Tank. Both were released in 2009. Adler got started in Hollywood around the same time as Jennifer Lawrence. The two struck up a little friendship about 10 years ago, posing together on the red carpet in a photo from the 2007 Movieguide Awards that is making the Internet rounds along with this sad news. Not much else is known about Clay Adler, so we’ll end with his official bio, courtesy of his time as an MTV reality star: Clay Adler is a junior and although shy with girls, he is regarded as Newport Harbor’s hottest guy. Born and raised in Newport Harbor, Adler takes full advantage of his oceanfront playground. Whether he’s fishing from his speedboat off Balboa Island or surfing on one of Newport Harbor’s famous breaks, Adler catches girls’ glances wherever he goes. Adler’s humble attitude belies his looks and he often turns to Grant, his gregarious friend, for a boost of confidence. While it seems Adler could have any girl he wants, his shyness has kept him from having a relationship. But when Adler develops real feelings for Chrissy — and she responds accordingly — it could be his chance to break out. Don Rickles Dies; Legendary Comic Was 90

Don Rickles, the legendary comic who turned the insult into an art form, has passed away at the age of 90. His publicist confirmed the news in a statement issued to the media moments ago. While longevity eludes most comics due to changing tastes in humor, Rickles remained a stalwart in the standup scene for an astonishing six decades. Often cited as a top influence by today’s biggest comedians, Rickles made a career out of skewering public figures, fellow entertainers, his own audience, and even himself. His impact can be seen everywhere from sharp-tongued sitcom characters to the popular Comedy Central Roast series. Rickles didn’t invent insult comedy, but he may have done more to popularize it than anyone else. Rickles kicked off his career in New York nightclubs during the 1950s, eventually gaining a huge name for himself as the master of the put-down. So much so, in fact, that he became a sought-after act to perform for and alongside the biggest names in show business. In the ’60s, Rickles became a fixture in Las Vegas, and was frequently spotted partying with Frank Sinatra and his famous Rat Pack. In addition to standup, Rickles became a familiar face to generations of film and television fans. Though his own attempts at launching a series never panned out, he racked up scores of TV credits over the years. Rickles was a fixture on the late night talk show circuit from the time of its inception. He also played guest roles on sitcoms such as Get Smart, Newhart and, in 2011, Hot in Cleveland, and Murphy Brown. He also showed off his dramatic chops in films such as Martin Scorsese’s Casino, and earned a new generation of fans with his voice work as Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story films. Social media tributes to Rickles from fans, friends and fellow comics began pouring in within minutes of the announcement of his death. Many, of course, did so while paying tribute to Rickles’ scathing style in a manner he would have to appreciate if he were here to see it. “Hey Helen Keller, show’s up here. Gandhi, stop hogging the breadsticks or we’ll let Bob Hope tell jokes again,” Patton Oswalt tweeted. Others were more serious and straightforward. “A national treasure is gone. Don Rickles’ talent was limitless. To know him was a gift,” wrote Larry King, and what more can you say? Rickles is survived by his wife of 52 years, his two children, and two grandchildren. He was one of the greats, and will be missed. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Robert Brian Clark Dies; Catfish Star Was 33

Robert Brian Clark, who appeared on a memorable episode of Season 2 of Catfish, has tragically died, MTV News confirms this week. He was just 33 years old. Clark, who went by “Brian” on  Catfish , was reportedly killed in a motorcycle accident in his native Jefferson County, Alabama. Local news reports described a tragic, harrowing scene. It’s not clear exactly how, but Brian was thrown from his motorcycle after he “became airborne while crossing a set of railroad tracks.” He was then hit by a car after landing on the highway. When the motorcycle came landed after being airborne, it landed on its side and Clark was ejected from the bike before being struck. The crash happened at 5 p.m. local time, and Clark was pronounced dead on the scene less than a half an hour afterward, at 5:20 p.m. Simply awful. According to reports, Brian passed away in December, but it appears that MTV only learned about, and mourned, his death this week. In 2013, Brian appeared on Catfish with Jesse Bettinger, a pretty blonde who was worried that Brian was not who he appeared to be. You can see a photo of the couple above. He’d been portraying himself as a Southern gentleman, but Jesse, unsure of who she was dealing with online, enlisted the Catfish crew. As she told  Nev Schulman , she had been stood up by Brian once before, after driving hundreds of miles to meet up with him no less. Brian later revealed that he missed their rendezvous because he was arrested for possessing a sawed-off shotgun that very same day. Nevertheless, the online relationship continued, and when Brian and Jesse eventually met on Catfish , well, he was who he said he was. That’s right, he was telling the truth all along. A catch-up special later revealed to fans that they did not end up together, though they continued dating one another after the episode. It’s not clear why they broke up, but Brian, a former U.S. Marine, had struggled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for years. Jesse, now the mother of a two-year-old son, posted a tribute to Brian on Facebook, along with the caption, “I’ll never forget our good times.” “Your struggle is finally over,” she said. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam Sadly, Catfish Season 2 star  Ashley Sawyer  died within the last year as well (Mike Fortunato, the man she met on MTV, is also deceased). Wednesday night’s episode of Catfish contained a short tribute to Brian Clark, with the network sharing its condolences and memories.

Lena Dunham: Please Stop Talking About My Weight Loss!

So Lena Dunham has lost a lot of weight recently, right? A considerable amount of weight, really. But the thing is, she doesn’t want any of us to talk about it. “But why?” you might be thinking. “She keeps talking about it herself, what does she expect?” And those are good questions — Lena started losing weight a few months ago, and she’s been open about the reason behind it. In a February interview with Howard Stern, she explained that “Donald Trump became president and I stopped being able to eat food .” “Everyone’s been asking like, ‘What have you been doing?'” she went on. “And I’m like, ‘Try soul-crushing pain and devastation and hopelessness and you, too, will lose weight.'” In January, she called a Glamour cover in which some cellulite was visible on her legs a ” triumph for womankind ,” so she’s clearly comfortable with talking about any and all aspects of her body and her weight. But in a great big long Instagram post she shared yesterday, she insists that she’s not cool with people talking about her weight. We know that because the photo she shared was a screenshot from an article titled “People Need to Stop Talking About Lena Dunham’s Weight.” In her caption, she writes “I feel I’ve made it pretty clear over the years that I don’t give even the tiniest of sh-ts what anyone else feels about my body.” “I’ve gone on red carpets in couture as a size 14. I’ve done sex scenes days after surgery, mottled with scars .” “I’ve accepted that my body is an every-changing organism,” she writes, “not a fixed entity — what goes up must come down and vice versa.” “I smile just as wide no matter my current size because I’m proud of what this body has seen and done and represented. Chronic illness sufferer. Body-shaming vigilante. Sexual assault survivor. Raging hottie. Just like all of YOU.” And this is where it gets weird — she says that “Right now I’m struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise.” What about Trump though, girl? Why the change in the story? Regardless, Lena continues by saying that her weight loss “isn’t a triumph and it also isn’t some sign I’ve finally given in to the voices of trolls.” “Because my body belongs to ME — at every phase, in every iteration, and whatever I’m doing with it, I’m not handing in my feminist card to anyone.” “I refuse to celebrate these bullsh-t before-and-after-pictures,” she concludes. “Don’t we have infinitely more pressing news to attend to?” … K. It’s just strange because … like, of course her body belongs to her. And as someone who thoroughly enjoys posing nude or nearly nude at every opportunity, she should realize that people are going to notice big changes. Pointing out her weight loss isn’t somehow an anti-feminist move, and it’s not like people are saying “Thank goodness she finally lost some weight, she’s finally a real person now!” Everyone loves a good weight loss before-and-after. It’s human nature. It doesn’t have to mean something terrible, and it doesn’t require an essay. So take that body that belongs to you, Lena, and just chill for a little bit. Chuck Berry Dies; Legendary Musician Was 90

Chuck Berry, the long-time musician who many credit with popularizing the entire genre of rock ‘n roll, died Saturday in Missouri, the St. Charles County police has confirmed. He was 90 years old. “St. Charles County police responded to a medical emergency on Buckner Road at approximately 12:40 p.m. today (Saturday, March 18),” the department said via statement this afternoon. The statement continued as follows: “Inside the home, first responders observed an unresponsive man and immediately administered lifesaving techniques. Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m. “The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.” Concludes the post, which was written on Facebook:  “The family requests privacy during this time of bereavement.” The singing, guitar playing and general showmanship of Berry have often been credited as having enormous influence on Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys, among other legends. The latter group’s “Surfin’ USA,” for example, so overly copied Berry’s song “Sweet Little Sixteen” that the rock pioneer complained and was eventually given a co-writing credit on the track. Berry performed for over seven decades. His best known hits likely remain Roll Over Beethoven, My Ding-a-Ling, Maybelline (his first real hit, released in 1955) and Johnny B. Goode. The latter was immortalized by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future, who basically emulated Berry’s moves on stage in that memorable movie. The veteran musician received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. By the late 1970s, after years of success in the spotlight, Berry career took a nosedive. In 1979, was found guilty of tax evasion and sentenced to four months in prison. However, he remained a worshiped figure by the music icons he had inspired. When Keith Richards inducted Berry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, saying at the time that he “lifted every lick” that Berry ever played for himself. Upon learning of his death, motown group The Jacksons Tweeted the following: “Chuck Berry merged blues & swing into the phenomenon of early rock’n’roll. In music, he cast one of the longest shadows. Thank You Chuck.” Added Bruce Springsteen: “Chuck Berry was rock’s greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock ‘n’ roll writer who ever lived. “This is a tremendous loss of a giant for the ages.” Expect many more tributes to follow. Berry had announced in October that he would actually release a new studio album some time in 2017. We send our condolences to those who knew Chuck Berry best. What a legend. May he rest in peace.
