Peter O’Toole, a veteran actor known for a variety of major movie roles, passed away in his sleep last night. He was 81 years old. A rep for the star confirms O’Toole was surrounded by friends and family members when he died at a London hospital, following a long battle with illness. O’Toole’s most memorable films include Lawrence of Arabia , Goodbye, Mr Chips and Venus . He holds the record for most Academy Award nominations without a win, though he was given an honorary Oscar in 2010. O’Toole announced his retirement from acting last year. “His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time,” said daughter Kate, adding: “Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished.” We send our condolences to O’Toole’s loved ones.
It doesn’t even seem like it’s been a year since this terrible tragedy ! Via Mediaite reports : On Saturday, President Barack Obama devoted his weekly address to the nation to remember the massacre of children and school teachers in Newtown, Connecticut, one year ago today. Obama said that the nation “must do more” to prevent future tragedies like what occurred at Newtown. “These tragedies must end,” the president insisted. “More than the tragedy itself, that’s how Newtown will be remembered,” Obama said in his weekly address. “And on this anniversary of a day we will never forget, that’s the example we should continue to follow,” he continued, “because we haven’t yet done enough to make our communities and our country safer.” “We have to do more to keep dangerous people from getting their hands on a gun so easily. We have to do more to heal troubled minds. We have to do everything we can to protect our children from harm and make them feel loved, and valued, and cared for.” “Beneath the sadness, we also felt a sense of resolve – that these tragedies must end, and that to end them, we must change,” Obama concluded. Paul Walker’s Brother Rumored To Replace Him In Fast & Furious 7 It’s been just barely 2 weeks since actor Paul Walker suddenly lost his life in tragic car accident, but talk is already swirling that his younger brother Cody will fill in for him in the upcoming ‘Fast & Furious 7′ film. via Hollywood Life After Paul Walker tragically died in a fiery car crash on Nov. 30, production on Fast & Furious 7 came to a screeching halt. But the last thing the movie’s producers want to do is cut Paul out of the film — so they are reportedly working on a plan to have Paul’s younger brother Cody, 25, fill for the late actor in his final scenes. Fans on Twitter seem to be totally divided over the report — here’s what they have to say. Paul Walker’s Brother In ‘Fast’ Sequel — Fans React To Cody Finishing Role There are still several remaining scenes in Fast & Furious 7 that would have featured Paul, so it seems like a logical solution to bring in his brother, Cody, who has worked as a movie stuntman in the past. But not everyone agrees. Disgruntled fans will probably be relieved to know that even if Cody fills in for his brother, we may never even know he’s there. Paul has already shot several scenes, so Cody would just be used as a filler, and then Paul would be added in via CGI technology. ‘They can shoot Cody from behind and at distance,” a source told the UK’s Daily Mail. “If it’s a shot they need Paul’s face in close up, they can CGI it later on.” The source added that Cody would only work on the film if it helped honor his late brother’s memory. ”If Cody agrees it’s because he wants to honor his brother’s memory,” the source continued. “There are many details that still need to be worked out, but right now the family and cast and crew are all still grieving.” It seems like the natural thing to do to have Paul’s brother step in since Paul had already began filming before he passed away. Better his brother that someone random, right?
Saturday Night Live hears the criticism. And it’s finally doing something about it. Following the exodus of Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen following last season, the long-running sketch comedy hired six new cast members, all of whom have something in common: They’re white. This led to a number of diversity complaints, considering the show actually employees a grand total of zero African-American performers, something it mocked when Kerry Washington ( Scandal ) hosted in November. But insiders now confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that NBC held showcases in Los Angeles and New York this month in order to hire an African-American female. One is expected to debut as early as January. Overall, there are three people of color (Kennan Thompson, Jay Pharaoh and Nasim Pedrad) in the show’s 16-person cast and SNL has only ever had four African-American women on stage: Yvonne Hudson (1980-81), Danitra Vance (1985-86), Ellen Cleghorne (1991-95) and Maya Rudolph (2000-2007). But Thompson recently said this was less a reflection of producer Lorne Michaels and more of simply finding the right individual. “It’s just a tough part of the business,” Thompson told TV Guide of the show’s diversity issues. “Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”
Loretta Fuddy, the director of Hawaii’s Department of Health who verified President Obama’s birth certificate, died in a small plane crash this week. A commercial plane carrying Fuddy went down off the coast of the Hawaiian island Molokai Wednesday. The respected state health official was 65. Fuddy is best known nationally as the Hawaii official who verified and approved the public release of Barack Obama’s birth certificate in 2011. Loretta Fuddy, Hawaii Official Who Verified Obama Birth Certificate, Dies Fuddy said the documents “prove the fact that he was born in Hawaii.” Naturally, birthers weren’t about to let her tragic death pass without mockery. Early reports indicate that the plane she was in suffered catastrophic engine failure, and that the other eight passengers on board were rescued. Naturally, many Tweets, comments, and web posts from the “movement” quickly insinuated that Fuddy’s death in the Cessna crash was no accident. Some implied that the White House was “tying up loose ends,” or that those with ties to Obama’s past tend to have a “shortened life span.” And, of course, the King of the Birthers, Donald Trump, weighed in: Wow. You keep it classy, Donald. Just keep doing your thing. Trump aside, her life and successes are being celebrated. A new report by the United Health Foundation, American Public Health Association and the Partnership for Prevention, confirmed that Hawaii is the healthiest state. Hawaii House Speaker Joe Souki said Fuddy “was especially passionate about the most vulnerable in our communities, a champion for mothers, newborns, and early childhood care.” Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie said “Loretta was deeply loved and respected. She was selfless, utterly dedicated, and committed to her colleagues and to the people of Hawaii.” “Her knowledge was vast,” the governor added, while “her counsel and advice always given from her heart as much as from her storehouse of experience.” R.I.P.
